If the person has AIDS, you could catch the virus if you share bodily fluids. Most but certainly not all people with lung cancer developed it from smoking cigarettes. Lung cancer is not contagious but there is the lingering question of how dangerous second hand smoke is. I believe that it is not good but that the risk has been overstated and exaggerated. Smoking is not popular and I do not like it but I am not judgmental and I am empathetic of those who are addictted to cigarettes. Liver cancer is not contagious but hepatitis C causes a significant number of cases of liver cancer. Hepatitis C is sexually transmitted so if your partner has this you need to be tested for hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and HIV. I should also mention that having two separate cancers is unusual and it may be more likely (especially if they are a smoker) that your partner has lung cancer which has spread to the liver. If that is the case the question of hepatitis C need not be asked. In closing though I must say that I am very sorry to hear of this unfortunate circumstance. Both lung and liver cancer have a poor prognosis in most cases. As someone who lost a spouse in 1995 (to medical malpractice of all things) I am familiar with the pain of the loss of a partner. My grief required several years and I still miss her. If you search for Elisabeth Kubler-Ross you will find an entire website dedicated not simply to death and dying but rather life itself.
