can you get affected by the lead in the the shot that you use?
Question by ♥lois c♥ ☺♥♥♥☺: can you get affected by the lead in the the shot that you use?
and have you ever gotten tested for lead? this is mostly for the guys that shoot alot…since they use lead in most bullets and though the shooting and cleaning of guns i would think there would be some sort of lead influence with shooters. i’m just curious because at my job the painters get tested because there around lead based old paint all the time and we use to get tested for asbestos and other things all the time. just curious guys..what are your thoughts on this? should you get tested too?

Lead in paint is suspended in or in compound with other chemicals and more likely to spread to the body, even just via the skin, from paint splashes
The lead in shot is dry, solid, not in a compound and pretty inert.
You would probably need to either swallow it or spend a lot of time handling it then eat without washing your hands for it to have any effect.

When I was a kid I carried around split shot for fishing in my MOUTH! Didnt know any better.
Does it worry me enough to be tested, nope. Made a healthy boy and I feel fine so whats the worry.. right?

Most states have laws about Hunting rounds can not be lead ammo, Scientific studies provide overwhelming evidence that the lead poisoning condors comes from ammunition fragments in carcasses and gut piles left behind in the condor range by hunters. In July more than 45 prominent wildlife biologists signed a “Statement of Scientific Agreement” concluding that lead ammunition is the primary source of the lead that is poisoning condors.
I asked a doctor about this. Pregnant women and small children are the most at risk.
The question I asked,”Can exposure to lead make an adult dumb as a box of rocks or something?” No, it has less effect on adults however, it is carcinogenic.
I’ve been melting lead & casting & shooting lead bullets for years.
I always get a heavy metals screening on my blood test whenever I get a medical check up.
nothing above average has ever showed up.
its pretty hard to get lead poisoning. I’ve known 2 people who had it. 1 worked in a battery recycling & manufacturing plant & didnt wear his breathing mask (so he could smoke)when breaking up old battery plates & inhaled a lot of dust.
the other was a friends young son who got in the habit of chewing lead shot like chewing gum. the shot he swallowed showed up on x rays. the doc said if they had waited a day he would have already passed the shot & they wouldnt have known what was making him so sick & they would have probably have taken his apendix out..
