i live in a housing association property and 3 weeks ago workmen came and smashed through panelling containing asbestos . the debris of this was left strewn and crumbled for days in the hallway i had to get an mp and enviromental health to get the debris cleaned and tested. results came back as amosite asbestos. wish to take matters further but not sure what to do, please help
the poor sod who ripped the panel open did so after telling tenants that the asbestos inside was a safe type and that he could eat it all day…

All you can do is get your exposure to this brown asbestos recorded. Then if in later life you become ill, you have recorded evidence of exposure.
You have NOT any automatic right to compensation. HSE should have a record of the event. It’s the poor sods who took down the panelling who are most at risk.

At this point, you really need to speak to an attorney who can help you with the proper documentation and advice on the event.
He’s definately wrong about amosite being the safe type. They definately did you wrong and should at minimal come in and clean up the entire area with HEPA vacuums and make sure the area is under a permissable limit with air tests. As far as lawyers, YES you may have something, at least for you medical surveillance in case you or your family are later affected.
