I have a popcorn acoustic ceiling and want to get rid of it. How much would it cost to have a piece of it sent to a lab to be tested for asbestos?

Do you know when the texture was applied? If the popcorn texture was applied in 1980 or later, chances are it does not contain asbestos. If it is older than that, then yes, you need to have it tested. Testing facility costs are going to vary from lab to lab. Try contacting your local environmental agency associated with your local planning/building commission. They should be able to direst you to the proper locations for testing. Good luck.

A local lab will charge you $ 15-$ 25. If more check for another lab. If you want a national lab, EMSL is one example.
