Q&A: Asbestos in renovated house???
Question by Lisa: Asbestos in renovated house???
We moved into an old house that has just been renovated. Is it possible that there could be asbestos still in the air if it has been disturbed? the walls have been torn down and everything and new ones and such has been replaced. Is there some sort of way to test the air in the house for asbestos just to be sure?

The renovators should have removed all asbestos. The amount you need to breathe to give you cancer does not exist in your house. Relax and enjoy your newly renovated home!
No, this is not somthing you should be worried about. If there was any asbestos it has been removed. It would not be lingering in your air.
you know there are so many things in the air around us that are bad you cant detect them all..you cant go thru life being scared to live..if they tore down the walls and put up new ones i am sure they cleaned up the job and got as much out as humanly possible..enjoy your new home and think of all the good things and don’t stress over the what if…the food your eating is worse than the air in your home..
congratulations on your new home…
Yes, you can hire an industrial hygienist to measure the level in the air. They should use TEM testing for the more accurate results. There is not a home test you can do yourself. However, in a home, asbestos in walls is very, very rare. It can be found in wall joint compound.
If the asbestos has been removed by professionals to meet code, you have no problem.
