Q&A: testing for asbestos?
Question by Sarah C: testing for asbestos?
i have popcorn ceiling and got it tested for asbestos today. they said it takes 48 hours for the results to come back. the guy that scraped off the samples covered the area with duct tape when he was done. the tape is starting to fall off…is that dangerous? should i just leave it alone ?

USA I would leave it alone. The asbestos can get into your lungs and hurt you if it turns into dust and you breathe it in. If you bother the tape, you might disturb it and create dust. Any loose particles are already stuck to the tape, so they won’t be falling down. If you are worried and need to do something, in lieu of bothering the tape, get a can of spray paint and paint the area that was sampled. That will encapsulate all the fibers. If you don’t have spray paint, any paint and brush will do. Do not dry brush or clean the area. Just hit it with paint.
