Strange chest problem? Medical exams show NOTHING? Help?

Question by Bob J: Strange chest problem? Medical exams show NOTHING? Help?
I have this weird chest cramping/pain thing. It goes at both sides of the front of my chest. I thought it was something to do with the lungs but all medical exams show my lungs to be healthy.

I used to smoke (very lightly) but since this came up I quit. I also worked in asbestos removal for two months, VERY SAFELY of course (and there’s no evidence that this caused whatever I have- medical exams, chest x-ray, breathing tests, etc) yet I feel this thing is wrong, that it shouldn’t be there. I didn’t always have this….

Should I keep worrying or is this all in my head? What should I do?

Chest pain is a common symptom that is caused by many different conditions. Some causes require prompt medical attention, such as angina, heart attack, or tearing of the aorta. Other causes of chest pain that may not require immediate medical intervention include spasm of the esophagus, gallbladder attack, or inflammation of the chest wall. An accurate diagnosis is important in providing proper treatment to patients with chest pain.

Angina (angina pectoris – Latin for squeezing of the chest) is chest discomfort that occurs when there is a decreased blood oxygen supply to an area of the heart muscle. In most cases, the lack of blood supply is due to a narrowing of the coronary arteries as a result of arteriosclerosis.

Angina is usually felt as:

pressure,

heaviness,

tightening,

squeezing, or

aching across the chest, particularly behind the breastbone.
This pain often radiates to the neck, jaw, arms, back, or even the teeth.

Patients may also suffer:

indigestion,

heartburn,

weakness,

sweating,

nausea,

cramping, and

shortness of breath.
Angina usually occurs during exertion, severe emotional stress, or after a heavy meal. During these periods, the heart muscle demands more blood oxygen than the narrowed coronary arteries can deliver. Angina typically lasts from 1 to 15 minutes and is relieved by rest or by placing a nitroglycerin tablet under the tongue. Nitroglycerin relaxes the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. Both rest and nitroglycerin decrease the heart muscles demand for oxygen, thus relieving angina.

Angina is classified in one of two types: 1) stable angina or 2) unstable angina.

Hope that gives you some help…

Does this sum up high school?

Question by Mr.Big121087: Does this sum up high school?
High school is a failed experiment in preparing young people for the adult world. All high schools in the country were built around 1960 and were designed to hold about half as many students as they currently do. Nothing seems to work quite right in a high school building. The heaters only work during the summer and the air conditioning only works in the winter. The asbestos insulation has all fagged out and the building becomes an oven or a meat locker, depending on the time of year. The plumbing is usually a disaster in high school, with drinking fountains never working but toilets that never stop running.

High schools are usually poorly run by a team of out of touch assholes, also known as Principals, counselor, teachers, and ex-Marine drill sergeants (gym teachers). These people seem hell bent on destroying all hope for students through tedious testing, poorly planned projects, educational videos made during the Truman Administration, and text books that mention the Soviet Union on every page.

High school is also the place where the stress of growing up and the stress of fitting in join forces to destroy even the strongest among us. Most of High school is not spent learning but involves trying to find friends who aren’t complete douche bags, trying hook up with people of the opposite sex unsuccessfully, combing your hair, buying cloths in the effort that someone will notice you, working out so you will not get your ass kicked everyday, trying desperately to get rid of the zits that have taken over your face, driving a car that a homeless person wouldn’t piss in or riding on an over crowed bus while choking on diesel fumes, while people you don’t know make fun of you worse then your friends do, and on top of all of that, you must act like nothing is wrong in your life.

That is really pessimistic. You are ignoring some of the positive experiences. Teachers, principals, administrators, etc. went into teaching because they care. Not all of them do but a great many do. They may have forgotten what it’s like or maybe it just seems that way. I’m 35 and I remember high school pretty well. I do agree with you that things should be constantly improving. The more you learn the more you should put that knowledge to good use otherwise what is the point? Life is stressful and painful. It has its moments of joy and you should savor those moments. Everything has gotten crappier. It’s not just high school. We are more focused on quantity than quality. I disagree strongly with that but we are overruled.

High school is but 4 years. Things will get better. I loved college. The first semester was tough but I got used to it pretty quickly after that. You should try to get involved with student government and go to school committee meetings if you are able to. Everyone in high school is insecure and have different ways of dealing with it. I wish I had known that back then. Smile more, be friendly, and positive. Avoid the toxic people. Be strong and call them on it. You are not alone.

It’s only life and we only get one chance so do what you want. Stand up for yourself because you have rights too. No one is better than you.

I wish I had really known how true these statements are. I tried to be invisible in high school because junior high was so brutal for me. I didn’t want to endure another 4 years of it. I had my group of friends but I didn’t have that much in common with them. But because I was so quiet, I think I missed out on getting to know people that I had more in common with. I have struck up friendships with former classmates that I was friendly with but didn’t really know.

Best thing – socialize. Get to know people. Don’t assume that what you think is correct. A lot of our thoughts are wrong. I wish I had known that too.

Q&A: Think an allergen/chemical in office building causing my illness? How do I proceed?

Question by Alyssa: Think an allergen/chemical in office building causing my illness? How do I proceed?
I have worked in a governmental facility for over a year now. During the past year, I have had the most severe, upper respiratory infections of my life, include one hospitalization and two emergency visits that required steroid usage to prevent my throat from closing from inflammation. I have also had the worse migraines/sinus headaches/sinusitis the entire time. I have missed a considerable amount of work (which looks bad because I’ve worked for less than a year). My medical records will show that I have never had any issues with allergens. I know that there is ‘contained’ asbestos in our building and there is a chance of mold. I was speaking with coworkers and they said people that have previously been in my office have had similar upper respiratory infections/problems.

I spoke with my supervisor about the consistency of my illnesses and am trying to see if the ducts can be tested or even cleaned, but are there any other options? As I mentioned, I have been off work off-and-on, one time for over a week, due to the severity of my illnesses. My physicians have been unable to explain why I have been getting so sick and it wasn’t until a coworker mentioned my office causing these similar problems that I thought it could be work related. I just want to try and validify my absences if possible, as I’ve gotten a warning about being gone so often, but I literally feel like I’m going to die when I do get sick, and its at least every 3 months. Its like I can’t get rid of it!

Q&A: Elementary School vs. Middle School vs. High School: Which was worse?

Question by ♥Jericho and Eve Are The Sh!t♥: Elementary School vs. Middle School vs. High School: Which was worse?
Elementary School: The level of school where picking on the fat kids, and kids with glasses is the cool thing to do.

Middle School:
1. A place where your parents drop you off to be ripped apart by your equals.
2. Where you go from being a sweet, cute, elementry school kid to being a poser goth cutter listening to Avril Lavinge.
3. Where your hopes and dreams are shattered just in time for the next pit of hell: highschool.

High School: High school is a failed experiment in preparing young people for the adult world. Cortesy from Urban Dictionary, which I agree with. For me, High School was the WORSE (friendship wise) but Middle School were bad emotional wise…

what are my chances of winning an unemployment appeal from my employer?

test for asbestos
by Andrew_N

Question by RAREHINGES: what are my chances of winning an unemployment appeal from my employer?
I worked at an asbestos abatement company. In this field there is a medical standard that states the employer must have physicals, chest xrays and respirator fit testing done on the employee. To make a long story short none of this was done even when asked. I quit and was awarded unemployment insurance benefits, now i just received a letter that states my x employer is appealing the decision made by the employment department. I will have to participate in a phone hearing that i think i am prepared for but i wouldn’t put it past my x employer to lie about the facts. What are my chances of winning the appeal?

Best answer:

Answer by emt3992
just as you are betting on them lying.. im sure they are betting on winning simply bc you quit rather than being terminated, hoping they can win on that alone. just document as much as you can and give the as much detailed facts as you can, dates, things you requested but were denied, reason you left, personal safety etc. things they will have a hard time justifying. try not to get angry on the phone, showing you left for valid reasons and not out of anger. usually whoever is calm and more prepared will do well.

Q&A: What can I do to make sure this strange white powder coating everything on my job isn’t a health hazard?

Question by WriterChic: What can I do to make sure this strange white powder coating everything on my job isn’t a health hazard?
My job relocated from a clean modern building with great maintenance and security, to a dirty rodent infested building that’s at least 40 years old because it was more cost effective.

The water fountains are turned off because of the lead pipes. There are mouse dropping in my cubicle everyday and the whole office is coated in a strange white powder. The building has repeatedly been sited by the health department but nothing has been done.

OSHA has tested the powder and says its not Legionaries Disease, which one of our other buildings did have, and its not asbestos, even though a contractor left the building and refused to complete repairs on our AC claiming the building had asbestos. They says it has a high mold content but that’s not something they deal with.

A lot of people in the building have a persistent cough and my desk is right under a vent so I not only have a cough but have horrible headaches as well.

I currently have to wipe my desk off with bleach wipes everyday just to keep the dust off my clothes. The dust is so thick when I come to work on Mondays that you can write in it. Plus its not like regular dust as its grainy. I really think this stuff is dangerous but I can’t afford to quit and look for a new job.

What can I do to find out what this stuff is? And how can I protect myself?

Best answer:

Answer by NurseKaia
I don’t know how you can find out what the dust is apart from reporting this to the Occ Health and Safety authorities.

You need to get yourself moved to a different desk. Tell your employer that it is making you sick and that you don’t want them to have to be liable for huge medical bills.

You say you cannot afford to change jobs but can you afford to get mesothelioma if it is asbestos? Even if it is something else, you are breathing that in and your lungs could form scar tissue around the deposits. Any type of irregularity in the form or function of your lungs can cause cells to get out of whack with their dividing and that is the beginning of cancer. At the very least you could get one of a number of lung and/or respiratory conditions

You have to either change jobs or move to a different area. Dust that you can write in is not good! Especially when it isn’t dust! Put pressure on the health department and if you can, put pressure on your employers. Let them know that it could end up being more expensive if they do nothing.

Good Luck and think of your future. When you are lying in a hospital bed suffering, you will wish you got the heck away from that weird “dust”.

Why Do Our U.S. Tax Dollars Continue To Support Terrorism?

by pencrush

Question by Richard V: Why Do Our U.S. Tax Dollars Continue To Support Terrorism?
3 Billion Dollars in U.S. Military Aid goes to Israel every year for F-16s, Apache attack helicoptors, Hellfire Missiles and other weapons used to kill over 500 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in one week.

Testimony: Five girls in one family killed by Israeli bombing
Testimony, B’Tselem, 4 January 2009

Samira Tawfiq Said Balousha, 36, married with nine children, is a homemaker and a resident of Jabalya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. Her testimony was given to B’Tselem’s Muhammad Sabah by telephone on 30 December 2008:

My husband and I lived with our children in a three-room asbestos house in Jabaliya refugee camp. The house is next to Imad Aqel Mosque. We had nine children: Tahrir, 17, Iman, 16, Ikram, 14, Samar, 12, Samah, 10, Dunia, 7, Juhar, 4, Muhammad who’s a year and a half and Bara, who’s two weeks old.

Last Saturday [27 December], after the Israeli bombing began and after pieces of asbestos fell from our house because of the bombing of the district-government building, my husband and I took the children and went to my father’s house. We stayed there for one day and then returned home and continued our normal life — I did house work and the girls prepared for their mid-year tests that were to take place during the week.

On Monday [29 December], around 11:50pm, I woke up and heard my husband calling to me: “Samira, Samira, they shelled the mosque, get up and see, and recite the Shahada [Prayer of the dying].” It was dark, and I couldn’t see anything. I recited the Shahada. I felt something heavy choking me and pressing on my body. I was buried under a concrete clock, stones, and sand, and barely managed to move. I succeeded in freeing my hand and pushed aside the things that had fallen on me. I got up and went to look for my children.

I found Bara, my two-week-old daughter. She was alive, even though her bed was buried under the ruins. I saw my husband getting out of the ruins, and I handed Bara to him.

I then went to look for my son Muhammad, who was sleeping next to me. At first, I didn’t see him because of the rubble, but I found him alive under the ruins. I managed to free him, and I gave him to one of the people who came to help clear away the rubble.

In the meantime, I continued to look for my daughters. Their bedroom was covered with blocks of concrete and stones and sand. Other people helped me look for them. I was very weak because I had been injured in the head, and I was taken to Kamal Adwan Hospital.

At the hospital, I learned that five of my daughters — Tahrir, Ikram, Samar, Dunia, and Juhar — had been killed, and three were wounded. Muhammad was injured all over his body, mostly in the face.

Israel bombed the mosque next to our house without warning and without thinking about the people who live next to it. Lots of houses in the area were damaged in the blast.

Richard Falk, United Nations Human Rights Council :

“The Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip represent severe and massive violations of international humanitarian law as defined in the Geneva Conventions, both in regard to the obligations of an Occupying Power and in the requirements of the laws of war.

Those violations include:

Collective punishment – the entire 1.5 million people who live in the crowded Gaza Strip are being punished for the actions of a few militants.

Targeting civilians – the airstrikes were aimed at civilian areas in one of the most crowded stretches of land in the world, certainly the most densely populated area of the Middle East.

Disproportionate military response – the airstrikes have not only destroyed every police and security office of Gaza’s elected government, but have killed and injured hundreds of civilians; at least one strike reportedly hit groups of students attempting to find transportation home from the University.”

For the last 60 years the Palestinian Refugees are living in a United Nation Refugee Camps waiting for UN to implement the UN Security Council resolutions. For the last 60 years Israel conducts collective punishment and state terror against the Palestinian Refugees. That is not making a fake news.
Occupying other people by force is losing policy in the past and now and has no future.
No one could NOT change his mind unless he has no mind.

Is it possible EVERYBODY has HIV/AIDS?

Question by Public Enemy: Is it possible EVERYBODY has HIV/AIDS?
There are different strains of HIV and they behave differently. There is 2 types, HIV 1, and HIV 2. Under these 2 types, theres subtypes. For instance, in USA, the most common HIV is called HIV-1 Subtype-B. In Thailand the most common type is HIV-1 Subtype-E. Now tests didnt always detect the different subtypes, and some tests dont detect HIV 2 still. The subtypes behave differently too and infect people differently. HIV causes AIDS, and thats when your immune system breaks down and other diseases come on. Do you think its possible that everybody, or at least all the people who die from cancer and other diseases may have some form of HIV that is not being detected. A strain that has never been identified? I mean what if that is the reason why some people get cancers and others dont. Not because its hereditary, or because of the sun, or asbestos. But because the immune system in those people is lower because they have some form of HIV or AIDS that isnt showing up on tests.

Why couldnt this be a possibility?
Bumblebee, only 60% of people with HIV 1 get the flu like illness. HIV 2 doesnt get it. Different people behave differently, and so do different types of HIV. What if the undetected type behaves differently. If its undetected on tests, then the flu like illness would just be considered the common flu if the person got it. You said if someones immune system gets low, they would test positive. But I already said that there are many tests that dont test for HIV 2, they cant detect it. The common test in USA doesnt detect HIV 2. So what if theres an HIV 3 or one we dont know about that cant be detected by any tests? It took them 15 years to develop a test for all HIV 1 subtypes.
“Have you and every single person you know been tested and are infected? That should answer your own question.”
It doesnt answer anything if the tests cant detect it. The point of this question is, DO YOU THINK THERES AN HIV SUBTYPE THAT TESTS CAN NOT DETECT
Padme, is it really so far fetched? It takes 3 to 6 months for subtype-b to show up on a test. It can take even longer for subtype-e. So the 2 strains behave differently. If subtype-e takes a little longer to show up on a test, who’s to say there isnt another subtype that takes even longer than that to show up? such as 60 years to show up, or not show up at all
KellyRM, thats incorrect. I have met people who were born with HIV in Thailand when I worked with them. Theres many people who are born with HIV.
Google the phrase: Born with HIV and see what you find.

You dont see it too often in USA because subtype-b affects mostly gays, who dont end up having children. It much more common in Africa and Thailand since more heterosexuals have HIV over there.
Dead Last, you know what you are talking about. But not all tests check for both Hiv 1 and 2. It says on the avert.org site
“However, because HIV-2 and group O infections are extremely rare in most countries, routine screening programs might not be designed to test for them. Anyone who believes they may have contracted HIV-2, HIV-1 group O or one of the rarer subtypes of group M should seek expert advice.”

But yes, you are right about another subtype now being found in Cameroon. That is what made me start thinking about subtypes that we dont know about, and ones which may not show up on standard tests. The new subtype is different and they said it adapted to human cells somehow.
I think your average person who gets cancer, or one of the diseases that presents with AIDS, would not get an in depth test for HIV. If the subtype behaves differently than the HIV we usually see, then theres no signs that would cause a doctor to think its HIV so they wouldnt even look into it as a possibility, and they wouldnt order futher testing for rarer strains.
Dead Last, Subtype E behaves differently than Subtype B, so they are not exactly like their type.

Best answer:

Answer by Bumblebee
No, I don’t think that’s possible. Any kind of HIV would cause you to become sick. The 1st signs of HIV are ‘flu like’. I think if someone’s immune system got really low they would test for HIV. Even though it’s not been identified yet that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t find it.

I also think that there are ALOT of tests and it’s REALLY hard for things to go undetected.

I had a similar issue a few months ago. Look on the internet or local yellow pages for an independent lab. They can tell you how to take samples and they will test it for you for a pretty reasonable cost.

Q&A: What should I do at this point in my life?

test for asbestos
by puer.aeternus

Question by : What should I do at this point in my life?
I’m 18 years old and just graduated high school, its only been 3 months and I feel like they have been years. I work at a grocery store making $ 7.95 an hour and I’ve been there for approx. 2 years, recieving medical and benefits as well and its union. Soon, I should be making $ 8.20 an hour due to an up coming raise. I only work 3 days a week and 15 hours a week, unfortunatly because thats all they ever give anyone except for the elderly with times as bad as they are now. I’m not sure if I want to go to college and I really dont think that college is for me but if I want to progress in my career goals I know that college is a must unless there is some sort of loop hole which i doubt. Either way, I’m giving myself a year off to think about what I want for myself. Nonetheless, I am not one of those people that if they take a year off they are more then likely not to go back. If i want to go back, I deffinatly will.

I’m going for my road test in another month. The reason why I’ve waited so long when I could have gotten it at 16 was I didnt want to pay car insurance and what not, I also didnt have the money for a car and I also wanted to save my money. I got only about a grand in the bank and I’ve made it a goal to atleast deposit $ 100/wk into my savings with the current situation I’m in now because I also pay a phone bill and we all know how pricey those can be. However, that is the only thing that I pay for as of right now and the only thing that I am able to enjoy, other then that I don’t spend my money. Infact, my grandmother even gives me $ 20 here and there because she feels bad. I also live with my grandparents right now for no charge, being fed and all. For my future goals, I plan to only have my phone, a car, and an apartment in my name for a very long time until I can figure out a way to get myself financially stable and hopefully by then the economy will start to simmer down and be a little better.

I understand that 15 hours a week is not going to cut it if I seek these future endeavors for myself. However, once I get a car, I’m planning on picking up more hours either by trying to get more hours at my current job or (more then likely) picking up another job. Note: my parents have basically abandoned me and told me that they want nothing to do with me anymore, my moms exact words were “your 18 now, i’m done.” and is never there when I need her, infact I never see her and when I call her, she never answers her phone. My parents never gave or taught me anything, I’ve done everything by myself for as long as I can remember. The one good thing I think about it is that atleast I know I’ve grown up, not that I wanted to do it this early. It’s a very depressing time for me right now and on top of it, there are alot of things that have happened in my past that has prevented me from living my childhood. I feel that at 18, I’m worried about the future too much and my responsibilities are trimendious. For me, there is no time for fun. I just recently found out that I was eligable for a 2 year contract with my cell phone and all the huge discounts that are available which means I have some what decent credit.

I also have a wonderful boyfriend of about a year who has been unemployed for over a year now and I really need him to save money and find a decent job if we plan on having any future together. Even though I understand that being dependent on a man or someone else is deffinatly not the answer which is why I’m going to make sure that I can take care of myself independently before I make any life changing decisions. However, if he’s going to move in with me, he’s going to do his part. He is training this week and is going to be working for a company who removes hazzards waste like asbestos and such which should make some decent money. I’m on a very tight budget and I feel like at my age and even along before I’ve turned 18, I’ve played the parent and my parents have played the children.

Is it very hard to believe that I am just 18 years old? I ask the very diverse citizens of yahoo, what should I do? What steps should I take to achieve what I want in life. If college does become something to consider, I wish to not spend anymore then 2 years MAYBE 4 years in college. When posting your answer, if you could, please state what you do for a job and if you feel finanically comfortable so I can begin some sort of thought process on what I’d like to do. Thanks a bunch.

WHO should i contact? im concerend about air quality?

Question by steady_c: WHO should i contact? im concerend about air quality?
Ive been working at this foodstore for 3 years now and come to find out 5 people within the last 4 months found out they have cancer. They are all 40-75 years old.Something just does not seem right. this building i work in is a old building built in the 1960′s and come to find out the building next door that used to be a Elder Beermans closed in the early 90′s has asbestos in the building.I want to know could the air i be breathing be harmfull or something or is it just coincidence? Who should i contact to test air quality and other stuff?

Best answer:

Answer by Outcast
Your building most likely has asbestos as well. Asbestos can, in fact, is a cause for cancer. If your building is older, then it may have been used as insulation while it was unknown that asbestos could cause cancer. Find out if your building was made by the same person as the Elder Beermans, if it was, then you might want to consider changing your job.

Q&A: Health issues relating to working up in ceiling of buildings?

Question by frescafre08: Health issues relating to working up in ceiling of buildings?
My brother works for a company that installs some kind of communication wiring in ceilings of buildings. He came down sick about a month ago and doctors cannot find the cause. Nausea, heart palpitations, dizziness, fainting feeling, respiration problems etc. Doctors have ran all kinds of test and are unable to come up with anything.

My question is, could this be related to something he may have been exposed to while working, like mold or bat droppings, something along those lines? He does not fit the criteria for asbestos. I think there is a strong possibility of this. Where would he go to have this checked out? Doctors are not that interested in this theory, not that I am any way saying they are not doing their job, just that the doctors don’t seem to know how to investigate this, health wise. What test to run and all of that. Is there any agency that deals with this kind of thing? Where could he go for this?

Breathing insulation fibers or some kind of dust? Check his blood sugar.

Chemistry- Physical and chemical properties?

Question by BreeBreeBRAN™: Chemistry- Physical and chemical properties?
I don’t get these.
We had to read certain pages of our science text book and do this homework.
But the book said nothing about these questions.
Help?

1: Can you always tell what a material is by looking at it? Give an example.
2: What type of properties describe how one material acts on other materials?
3: What type of properties describe how a substance acts under various conditions?
4: How do scientists use their knowledge of physical and chemical properties?
5: How do scientists identify the chemical properties of materials?
6: If you had a piece of asbestos paper and a piece of plain paper, how could you tell which was which?
7: If you had a jar of alcohol and a jar of water, How could you tell which is which?
8: Can two items of different size have the same physical properties? Give an example.
9: When testing for the chemical properties of a substance? Will one test always be enough to identify that material?
10: Can a material have many different chemical properties?

The book would have said something about these. I can already answer the first one in my head. Don’t be lazy and do your OWN homework by either reading through the book again or searching the internet. If you still have trouble, go and ask your teacher, they’ll be glad to help you that’s what they’re for.

When to walk away from a offer on a house with picky sellers?

Question by gc_level_17: When to walk away from a offer on a house with picky sellers?
Here’s the situation: My spouse and I are first time home buyers. We’re on a budget. The house we want to buy appeals to flippers (no doubt) see below.

-The house has damaged fascia and seepage in the basement because of gutter problems.

-The detached garage has old wall shingles (possibly asbestos) but it would have to be tested.

-It has a leaking faucet in the basement along with a toilet that drains and refills every 5 minutes. (very loud!)

-These are all simple fixes, but depreciates the value of the house, nonetheless. Everything looks outdated but it’s mainly cosmetic. We are not sure about structural integrity until an inspection is done after an offer is accepted.

-The house has been on the market since July last year

Compared to other houses in this city’s market, they are asking too much money for the condition of the house. So we made a offer 12% below their asking price. They advertised the fridge, stove and dishwasher stay. We are not asking them to pay ANY closing costs.

They countered our offer with $ 1k less than their asking with no fridge and stove.

We verbally countered back at 5% below their asking price and ONLY the dishwasher stays. Still not asking them for closing costs. So, when should we walk away? I’m ready to walk away if they do not take this last offer.

Are these people serious?! It seems like they really don’t want to sell their house. I believe they are being very unrealistic for this market (They need to realize not all 100% of sellers get their asking price in a Buyer’s Market). Considering their home’s condition, they need to budge on price! Thoughts?
I have to add that the only updates they have done is a new bathtub in the main bath but the job is done very unprofessionally and will have to be re-done.
Location is about 3 blocks from the tracks. So, not an ideal location. The square footage is about all that is worth paying a little more for (2k square feet total)

Q&A: I hate the University of Chicago, should I go back?

test for asbestos
by Andrew_N

Question by GraceW: I hate the University of Chicago, should I go back?
I think the student body are a bunch of impossible snobs, for example. Er, and about half of the professors too. That said, I actually found my experiences there to be vastly useful in dealing with everything else I’ve dealt with in the the real world. Even all the classes I hated too.

The thing is, I have all these awful memories of being literally ill all the time from 1) the asbestos/ twenty layers of dust in the shoreland 2) food poisoning, no fucking joke 3) severe sleep deprivation. So as badly as I want to get the hell out of my hometown again, I don’t know if I’m ready for all of that.

I’m considering getting my applied math degree at the University of Houston Downtown, but I’ve been having this really bad experience at community college where my professor gives these tests, on advanced mathematics topics, no less, multiple choice, on which there is no correct answer. And then when I ask him to deal with it, he just ignores me. I want to work with people who are competent…

Q&A: Can my school legally do this?

test for asbestos
by Rev. Xanatos Satanicos Bombasticos (ClintJCL)

Question by Mixom: Can my school legally do this?
I attend a small suburban school that was built in the 1960′s. I am currently a Junior, and this year they plan to tear down the school, because they have been building a new one behind the current one. They are in the process of disassembling most of the school (i.e. the lockers, computers, etc.) and it has been made known that they intend to remove Asbestos from within the school building during this month or the next (while we are still inside it).

They claim that it will only be done after-hours and over the weekends. However, some of it could remain in the air. They plan to “test the air quality” and that’s it. Also, I learned today that, in order to “help prevent” exposure to the Asbestos, they plan to tear out the windows in several of the rooms and replace them with wooden boards, because supposedly that will help prevent it from getting into the rooms.

This school is run by a corrupt group of people, and has been known for shady dealings in the past. Also, I learned that the school was built on top of a landfill. Is that legal? The school, until recently, had well water that likely came from near the landfill. However, it is considered to be among the best schools in the area (in academics).

Can this school legally remove the Asbestos without quarantining the building? If not, what can I do? Also, could I get in trouble for wearing a dust mask during this time in school?

Do I have any legal recourse if?

test for asbestos
by Profound Whatever

Question by onegrtchf: Do I have any legal recourse if?
My work place replaced some floor tiling that was said to be made from Asbestos, and at the time of it’s removal was not at first tested for contaminant levels being of a dangerous nature. The Man responsible for it’s testing (or not because he didn’t) was fired because they were not sent out to see if any concerns were to be warranted. Now my employer and the buildings owner (we are a contracted service) is playing who is the liable game, and we haven’t been allowed to seek Medical testing to see if our lungs were at all subjected to contaminants at their expense until they iron this question of liability out..What if anything can I & fellow co-workers do? I am just suspicious that they had an independent Co. test the air and found it to be within the acceptable limits of Osha standards, but that was then after the removal and not before. What can or should I do if anything, Can I?

Best answer:

Answer by falsi fiable
Relax. Asbestos floor tiles are harmless unless pulverized into dust or you decide to ingest them.
