Why does my left lung hurt?-HEALTHY 16 YEAR OLD GIRL!!!?
Question by -: Why does my left lung hurt?-HEALTHY 16 YEAR OLD GIRL!!!?
I’m a 16 year old girl[5'1'' 90 lbs] with Mitral Valve Prolapse[MVP]… About a year ago… I started noticing that my lower left lung hurts. It’s sometimes intense and other times it doesn’t hurt a lot. I’m guessing it’s my lung…but it might be other organs. Once when I was in my biology class, my heart hurt[MVP] a lot along with my left lung. It was weired because I started to sweat and beginning to cry….my teacher noticed. I was fine after a while. Now, I’ve been noticing the same sharp pain on my right lung…but with the pain being on the right, I sometimes think it’s my appendix. I’ve never smoked. I don’t drink. I eat well. What could it be? HELP…I’m worried =[

Answer by BeautifulOne
Hello there, unfortunately I do not have any experience with MVP so I do not know the symptoms. Originally when reading your post I thought you may be experiencing some trapped gas. Trapped gas can appear as a sharp pain in your chest and hurt when you breath in and out until it passes. If it continues beyond a few minutes or so, I would contact your doctor.
Have you spoke with your parents about this? It seems like you need the advice of a doctor. Through research online and advice from others you may be able to find some sort of answer but for faster relief and answers to your questions you should contact your doctor, even if it is after hours. God bless.

How serious is my Bronchitis/Pneumonia diagnosis?
Question by Aaron: How serious is my Bronchitis/Pneumonia diagnosis?
I’ve had a clicking sound in my chest for over a year now, so I figured I’d go get it checked. Suspecting they were “lung rales,” I was a bit anxious. Last night, I had a little trouble breathing, so I went to the ER. I was diagnosed with Bronchitis/Pneumonia.
I have “some interstitial thickening in the right upper lobe.” I was prescribed Zithromax.
How serious is this? I’ve heard that lung rales can be suggestive of ailments far worse. And aside from a little coughing here and there and the occasional difficulty breathing, I feel fine.
I smoke for 6 years, and quit when I was about 21 or so. I’m 23 now.
I was also a chronic asthmatic as a child.
Can anyone offer any advice?

Negative interactions and alternative cancer treatments?
Question by blahlbahhalblahb: Negative interactions and alternative cancer treatments?
Can use of hemp oil cause negative interactions with Prednisone, Gabapentin, valproic acid, and phenobarbitol? My mom has ovarian cancer that has spread to her brain and is now also in her liver and lymph nodes. We are looking into possible alternatives as her doctors are not able to offer much hope. We’ve heard a lot about the use of hemp oil in successfully treating many cancers, but we are concerned about how it could interact with the medications she is currently on.
What about MMS(sodium chlorite and distilled water), b17, apricot seeds, alkaline foods, chlorella, iodine?
Also, can these interact with each other?
Best answer:
Answer by alt.healer
Grasping at alt med straws is probably useless. If you have decided as a last resort to try alternative treatment it has to be done with a doctor or other person highly trained in using this mode of treatment for cancer. They also have experience from past patient interaction. Best of luck. If you still want to go it alone alternatively, go to iherb.com or vitacost.com and go into their links to several databases that have good ideas with good research on which treatments to try for what conditions. It will save you precious time instead of groping around.

Our cat is going to die soon. She has lung cancer. She has stopped eating and is brething with discomfort.?
Question by rizwan602: Our cat is going to die soon. She has lung cancer. She has stopped eating and is brething with discomfort.?
Her brething is deep but she exhales with some force. Sometimes (for a couple of minutes) she is brething with her mouth open and most other time she is brething through her nose.
Her cancer was diagnosed in November 06 and she was given 3 months to live. She has shown no signs of illness until 2 weeks ago when we noticed her heavy breaths. She still was playful and eating but for the last 2 days she has stopped eating.
We are periodically feeding her what the doctor recommends. We are making her ingest liquids and some solid foods.
What I want to know is when is the time to take her in for euthanization? What are the symptoms that she is hours or minutes away from dying a painful death?
We do not want do it too soon because what if she is sick from something else and she recovers? I do not want to think I killed her by being impatient?
She still responds to calling by moving her tail. She walks slowly and just lays down.
What are the signs that she is near?
She does not have her mouth open right now. Sometimes she will brethe with her mouth slighly open.
What I am afraid of is if we euthanize her, we may be killing her because she is lethargic from another ailment and the lung cancer is not whats causing her discomfort. What if she makes it back to how she was in a few days? Maybe the lung cancer will take her in 2 months instead of now. We do not want to kill her … what should we wait for as far as symptoms of nearby death from lung cancer? Coughing? Blood coming out? We have for now decided that if we see any prolonged discomfort in brething, we will euthanize her. But I want to know what to look for.
Thank you all!

Q&A: What steps are involved with breast cancer treatment?
Question by : What steps are involved with breast cancer treatment?
Best answer:
Answer by k.ray
If they have already done a mammogram and found cancer then they should send you for a MRI, that will show a better image and more details of what they are looking for.
Once that is done your Dr. will talk with you to see what is the best course of action for you. They may do a biopsy to see what stage it is in and depending on that they will make a recommendation if there is to be any surgery.
If there is surgery and depending on what stage the cancer is in, they will suggest chemotherapy and possible radiation.
They would at some point later do a PET scan to see if any cancer has spread to other parts of your body. They also do lots of blood work to see if there are any free radicals floating around.
If they do chemo, most likely they will give you a shot once a month
to make your bone marrow speed up production of red blood cells, and I think that made me more sick than the chemo.
I certainly hope you do not have this or know anyone who does.
I had stage 3 cancer and a bilateral mastectomy.
hope this helped. God bless.

I work in cancer research, so I know a bit about the statistics.
It will depend on the stage at diagnosis. If it’s stage I or II, it’s possible. Stage III is unlikely, and stage IV has a very poor prognosis – usually those who are diagnosed at stage IV only have a few months to live.
I hope that this person has had an early diagnosis – cancer is a horrible thing – I wish your friend the best.

What types of cancer do carcinogens cause?
Question by Danny: What types of cancer do carcinogens cause?
I’ve looked everywhere for this and I am unable to find it, could anybody help me? I need this for a science project I’m doing, so if you could help me go right ahead.

I believe carcinogens can cause all types of cancer. I am an aircraft mechanic and work around hydraulic fluid alot and they brief us about the dangers of breathing in atomized fluids as they are a carcinogen and in this case, could cause lung cancer.
I also found this “Chemically-induced cancer generally develops many years after exposure to a toxic agent. A latency period of as much as thirty years has been observed between exposure to asbestos, for example, and incidence of lung cancer.” curtosy of http://scorecard.org/health-effects/explanation.tcl?short_hazard_name=cancer
And i think this site will give you a rundown of different kinds of carcinogens, and how the affect the human body http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=13276&page=2
good luck on you project!

Q&A: I would like to study abroad, but currently do not have the financials. Alternatives?
Question by : I would like to study abroad, but currently do not have the financials. Alternatives?
Right now, I am currently a 4.0 student at FSU, have never gotten anything under an A yet, not even an A-. I am two for two on Presidents’ and Deans’ Lists, and have won a microeconomics award for top 10 out of 522 students. I also hold 3 community service awards, one being the member of an organization with the most hours completed in a semester. I don’t know if any if this will help, but I’m throwing this all out their in case their are benefits from this. I am looking to study business and economics, possibly even entrepreneurship (or at least 2 of the 3). My family currently makes under 25,000 a year, so Fafsa is basically paying for my school. My mom is also in chemo for the rest of my life (dad is not in the financial picture currently) for lung cancer. If their are any ways that I could get a scholarship, benefits (from my achievements, or even hardships that I am going through), or any discounts that would not cost my family more money, please inform me. I would like to travel anywhere out of the U.S.

Q&A: pet scan that shows something in the left lung.?
Question by : pet scan that shows something in the left lung.?
doctor wants second pet scan in 90 days.i had breast cancer with right breast removed,2003,why do you think he wants second scan.i i`m asking this for my mother.
Best answer:
Answer by random
A pet scan shows increase in metabolic activity in a particular place in the body. Cancer/ infections can light up as a spot on a pet scan. Your mother’s doctor is probably looking to make sure that either the spot in the lung disappeared (i.e. it was something noncancerous) or if it is still there or larger, they may opt to biopsy it (if it’s posssible to rule out cancer). Breast cancer can spread to the lungs that’s why her doctor is concerned. You should not stress out over this issue. There is still a chance that it could be just an artifact.

How many answered prayers and miracles of God have you seen in your life? God cured cancer this week.?
Question by Herry LeMoore: How many answered prayers and miracles of God have you seen in your life? God cured cancer this week.?
A young lady, only 54 years old, was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this month and our whole church gathered hands and laid hands on her and we prayed hard with full faith and belief. When she went back to the doctor, no trace of cancer was found. She got two more opinions to make sure and again no trace of cancer. We were all very amazed at how the Lord our God answered our prayers and cured the woman of cancer. How great is our God? How wonderful and amazing??
Its times like them that fill my heart and make me think how can anyone be foolish enough to be an atheist or follow some silly other religion, when all they need is the Christian faith and Jesus Christ to be filled and saved. I have always believed rejection of Jesus Christ is as close to ignorant as one gets.
How many miracles have you seen in your life? How impressed are you by the wonders of God?
The Big Bang, why would anyone lie about something like this? Not only would it be morally wrong, it would violate the commandment against lying. Typical of an atheist, if they can’t explain firm evidence of the Lord they just write it off as false and lying.
I am not aware of the hospital or the doctor. I know the lady because she goes to church with me and she was in the choir and sometimes cooked for church dinners. I do not keep up with her daily life and she only testified when she was sick and needed prayers and was healed. I am sorry your so anti Christian you feel I would stoop to lying to promote my belief but I have not. Anyone who would lie about cancer or make up a false story is a disturbed person. I am not this person, I am merely sharing a testimony with fellow Christians. I also am aware of false teachers and the Bible warns us of false teachers and false testimonies. But to accuse me of this is offensive and is really wrong of you to misjudge me.

If one parent has a dominant allele that gives a 75% chance of develping a certain type of cancer between?
Question by 8889: If one parent has a dominant allele that gives a 75% chance of develping a certain type of cancer between?
the ages of 35 and 65. What is the likelihood you have inherited the cancer allele? What is the percentage. One parent has the dominant allele and the other parent does not have a dominant allele.
Best answer:
Answer by Peter V
There isnt enough info to do this problem… it is a simple Punnet square, but you didnt tell us if the dominant allele is homozygous or heterozygous. the chances will be different if it is hetero vs. homozygous.
ALso, just to be a knit picker… generally dominant allele would be for “not cancer” and the recessive trait would be ” cancer developing”. Recessive= bad things generally speaking in Genetics.
So, let me know if 1 parent is HETERO or HOMOZYGOUS Dominant for cancer, and then Ill figure it out.

Possible Liver Cancer?
Question by : Possible Liver Cancer?
I noticed a small to right under my right ribcage. I’m not sure if it is simply just part of my ribcage, or a tumor. There is also a larger lump on top of one of my lower ribs. Just about a cm above the other one. Not even. The lower one is slightly tender, but not much. For the past few months I’ve had all of the following symptoms-
Some rectal bleeding,
Almost constant nausea,
Extreme tiredness (I feel like my body is working way more than it usually does)
Frequent headaches
Abnormal bowel moment
occasional red spotty rashes that disappear after about a week
yellow patches that only last a few days
Back pain
Heart pain
My parents think I’m just overreacting, but I was wondering if this sounds like colon cancer that could’ve possibly spread to the liver.
I have liver cancer history on both sides of my family. Does this sound like cancer?
Best answer:
Answer by C C
Any time you have a change in bowel habits, esp. with bleeding, you should be seen by your doctor to be checked out. Also the continuing nausea & pain are other signs that should not be ignored. Please have your doctor check you. Don’t put it off. It might be nothing, but don’t ignore something that is lasting for a while. Good luck.
