Each neighborhood, culture, family, or community have different ways of sharing information. One thing we found while in South Carolina was quite unique. News and even advice is spread through barbershops and salons. With many people spending hours in a salon a week, it all seems so natural. Drivin’ My Life Away – Eddie Rabbitt. Edward Thomas “Eddie” Rabbitt (November 27, 1941 — May 7, 1998) was an American country music singer-songwriter who enjoyed much pop success at the height of his career in the 1970s and 80s with 20 #1 country hits including “Drivin’ My Life Away” and “I Love a Rainy Night,” which also topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks. After growing up in New Jersey, Rabbitt moved to Nashville and began his vocation in the music industry. He started as a songwriter in the late 1960s, springboarding to a recording career after composing hits such as “Kentucky Rain” for Elvis Presley in 1970 and “Pure Love” for Ronnie Milsap in 1974. Later in the 1970s, Rabbitt helped to develop the crossover-influenced sound of country music prevalent in the 1980s with such hits as “Suspicions” and “Every Which Way but Loose.” His duets “Friends and Lovers” and “You and I”, with Juice Newton and Crystal Gayle respectively, later appeared on the soap operas Days of Our Lives and All My Children. Following the death of his infant son in 1985, Rabbitt put his career on hold and produced no more cross-over material. However, he returned to music in the late 1980s with a series of country hits including a cover of “The Wanderer” and his self-penned “On Second Thought.” Rabbitt was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1997; although he continued to record, he died from the disease the following year.

Poorly pets can cause families huge distress, particularly when the ailments are avoidable. In a special Vets’ Surgery Live, TV vet Luke Gamble and Blue Peter favourite Peter Purves will be answering questions from pet owners live from Blue Cross Animal Hospital. As part of Be Lungworm Aware month, Luke and Peter are helping dog owners spot the causes and symptoms of the potentially fatal parasite, as well as how to avoid it. They will be taking questions and offering their top tips on how to keep your dogs happy and healthy. A live lungworm examination will also help pet owners spot the signs that their pooch needs treating. Lungworm (A. vasorum) is a parasite that dogs become infected with through eating slugs and snails which carry the larvae of the parasite. Once inside the dogs system, the parasite travels through the lungs, ending up in the heart. If the infection is left untreated, the dog’s health can rapidly deteriorate, and can be fatal. Recent research shows 36% of vets confirming a diagnosis of the potentially fatal parasite in practices across the UK. This has more than doubled since a survey in 2008, when the figure was 16%. This increase can be attributed to various factors including climate change making for milder conditions so that infected slugs and snails can survive for longer. Runty f2 baby on his 3rd day in the world. Not doing too good. You can hear him coughing. *UPDATE* I have learned that this kitten has a cleft palate which is VERY SERIOUS and life threatening. The only chance he has at survival is to be fed with a tube since anything he sucks with go straight into his lungs. In addition to being tube fed he is on antibiotics to hopefully prevent him from getting an infection in his lungs from any fluid that he may have already breathed in. His cough and slightly raspy breathing could be a symptom that he swallowed milk into his lungs before I started tube feeding him. If Runty lives for at least 6 months, then he may be able to go under surgery to repair his deformed mouth. The only thing to do now, is to keep him alive and try to help him grow bigger so he can get his surgery…
