Asthma has been on the rise in the U.S. over the past 50 years and is now most common chronic condition in America, affecting 20 million of us. Asthma occurs when triggers in the environment cause the airways or bronchi in the lung to contract, causing breathing difficulty that, as illustrated by the case above, can be fatal. There are a variety of possibilities for the increase of asthma over the past few decades. It could be because we have less exposure to infection than our ancestors did, which has made our immune systems more sensitive. We spend more time indoors, in controlled environments, where we are exposed to dust and mold. The air we breathe, both inside and outside, is more polluted than the air most of our ancestors breathed. We are more sedentary, and in particular as we moved from a rural to urban lifestyle over the past century we lost the habit of daily exercise, primarily in the form of walking and working outdoors on a daily basis.
There is considerable evidence that a lack of outdoor exercise contributes to asthma, and that an exercise program helps asthmatics. Our sedentary lifestyle has also led to a surge in obesity; there is evidence for an association between obesity and asthma related to the fact that obese people have a smaller area for the lungs to expand, higher levels of the hormone leptin (which is released from fat and is also higher in asthmatics), and higher levels of inflammatory markers (which may contribute to airway reactivity). In fact, as many as 75% of emergency room asthma admissions are for obese people. Finally, there has been a major change in our diet, including a massive increase in exposure to vitamins and minerals through fortified foods, as well as a shift from grain to corn-based nutrition. There is some evidence that changes in diet in our culture may have contributed to the increase in asthma.
There are two categories of asthma: allergic, also known as extrinsic asthma, and non-allergic, or intrinsic asthma. Allergic asthma, the most common form, affecting 20 million individuals in the US, is triggered by an allergic reaction to something you have inhaled, such as dust mite allergen, pet dander, tree or plant pollen, mold, or air pollution. Individuals with allergic asthma have high blood levels of something called immunoglobulin E (IgE). IgE sitting on the surface of the airways binds allergens and causes mast cells and basophils to release inflammatory factors, which cause the airways to constrict (IgE in the nose and mouth causes hay fever, and IgE on the skin causes eczema). Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath or rapid breathing, and chest tightness. Non-Allergic asthma is triggered by factors not related to allergens.
Non-allergic asthma is triggered by other factors such as upper respiratory infections, anxiety, stress, exercise, cold or dry air, hyperventilation, smoke, viruses, exercise, medications, beta blockers, and ACE inhibitors, sulfites found in red wine, and gastro esophageal reflux disease. Like allergic asthma, non-allergic asthma is characterized by airway obstruction and inflammation that can also be treated and partially reversible with medications similar to those used for allergic asthma. Many of the symptoms of non-allergic asthma are the same as those experienced by allergic asthma sufferers. Although blood levels of IgE are normal in non-allergic asthma, a similar type of inflammatory response takes place in the airways, for reasons that are not fully understood.
how to reduce prostate cancer chemotherapy side effects with chinese medicine Â
Article by peter parker
In the treatment of prostate cancer, chemotherapy is the main systemic treatment. At present the clinical use of anti-cancer drug was not developed specifically to kill the tumor cells, but only to prevent cell proliferation. However, many normal stem cells, often in the processes of proliferation, such as hematopoietic cells, lymphocytes, oral and gastrointestinal mucosal epithelial cells, hair follicle cells and germ cells and so on. Chemotherapy drugs, in the anti-proliferative activity of tumor cells, also causing damage for the active proliferation of stem cells in normal tissue, resulting in white blood cell and platelet declining, gastrointestinal reactions, hair loss, mouth ulcers, teratogenic, amenorrhea and other toxic reaction.
These prostate cancer chemotherapy side effects, causing damage to the human body function, even fatal. Traditional Chinese medicine, in prostate cancer treatment, can reduce the side effects of chemotherapy for prostate cancer, improve immune function, so that prostate cancer treatment is more smoothly. And how is chinese medicine to reduce side effects of chemotherapy for prostate cancer?
1, Chinese medicine can reduce the toxic side effects of the digestive system, such as slowing nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or diarrhea and other symptoms.
2, Chinese medicine can reduce the toxic side effects of bone marrow suppression, improving leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or insufficient hemoglobin status.
3, Chinese medicine can prevent or improve liver toxicity and restore the liver biochemical parameters.
4, Chinese medicine can reduce the kidney and urinary system side effects, reduce nephritis or chemical cystitis from occurring.
5, Chinese medicine can reduce the cardiac side effects, and cardiac damage
6, Chinese medicine can reduce the toxic side effects the lungs, and lung fibrosis and pulmonary interstitial inflammation
7, Chinese medicine can reduce hair loss
8, Chinese medicine can improve oral inflammation or ulceration
9, Chinese medicine can reduce neurotoxic side effects, and the production of peripheral neuritis
10, Chinese medicine can treat local tissue injury or phlebitis
Overall, traditional Chinese medicine combined with chemotherapy for prostate cancer, can play a synergistic role in attenuation, it is better than a single method in the efficacy.

Who Needs To Do Construction Industry OHS Training? Â
Article by James Knight
In Australia it’s mandatory for all people working in house construction, rebuilds, refurbishment, plumbing, bricklaying, carpentry, asbestos removal, wall tiling, floor tiling, roof tiling, concreting and civil construction must complete the course CPCCOHS1001A ‘Work Safely in the Construction Industry’.
This is a general Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) induction course specifically tailored to the construction industry. This initiative has recently been adopted by all Australian states and territories as part of a wider move to see uniform Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) across the country’s construction sites.
As such you’re able to complete the course in any Australian state or territory and have it recognised in any other state or territory. With the slight exception of the Northern territory, which likes to see that you’ve completed the course in the state or territory where you currently live or work.
The CPCCOHS1001A ‘Work Safely in the Construction Industry’ course has four major components: 1. How to identify workplace health and safety (WH&S) requirements, 2. Training on how to indentify construction hazards and control methods, 3. Training on how to identify WH&S communication and reporting processes and 4. Incident response procedures.
These components go into detail on the following: • Information regarding the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995, Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 2008 and codes of practice; • Risk management; • Principal contractor’s safety plan; • Material safety data sheets; • Work method statements; • Causes of fires and types of controls; • Basic emergency procedures like first aid, evacuation plans and procedures; • Reporting hazards to relevant people at the workplace; • Workplace Health and Safety Officers; • Obligations of people at the workplace; • Duty of care and • Recording of work injuries, work caused illness and dangerous happenings at the workplace.
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are able to deliver the training, after strict accreditation processes and approvals from the likes of WA Worksafe, Victoria Worksafe, Workplace Standards Tasmania, Safework SA, Workcover Worksafe ACT, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, NT Worksafe or NSW Workcover Authority.
RTOs can deliver the ‘Work Safely in the Construction Industry’ course either online or face-to-face. Both modes of delivery will contain the same course content, modules and assessments.
Upon the successful conclusion of this course you will receive your nationally recognised proof of completion, the White Card. This card is accepted Australia wide as proof the course has been completed by you and replaces the old Blue, Red and Green Cards.
Your RTO will also require you to provide a copy of Statement of Attainment, which is available to you upon course finalisation, a Statutory Declaration form that has been signed by you, a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Declaration or legal practitioner and a witness, and a copy of your photo I.D. also signed by the Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Declaration or legal practitioner. After which the RTO can provide you with your White Card.

Answer by Pangolin Sorry to hear.
It is impossible to say, but having cancer spread to the brain is not a good sign. She could last for months, or may pass away sooner.
Spend as much time as you can with her, and do whatever it takes to keep her comfortable.
God Bless you both.

A Tragic History – Mesothelioma and Asbestos Cancer Â
Article by Miaa MacAdiie
Asbestos has been in used in a lot more than 5000 different products because the early 1800′s. Asbestos is categorized as a naturally found minerals which is often used to make building material, automotive parts, small appliances, insulation and clothing. Asbestos was adopted in manufacturing plants, factories, railroads and shipyards, custodial, mechanical and construction industries. It’s been extensively used for its corrosion resistance and insulation to heat properties. The lethal effect of asbestos fibers when subjected to employees continues to be recognized to industry leaders for pretty much eighty to ninety years. Yet, neither government or industrial regulations restricted its use or required the protection of employees working in those industries.
Mesothelioma is very rare but fatal cancer brought on by exposure to asbestos. Research shows us that it affects men 3-5% a lot more than women. Primarily because men composed the majority of the employees 30-40 years ago, and asbestos cancer can have a latency duration of fifty years. That explains why asbestos cancer is usually diagnosed in patients at average chronilogical age of fifty to seventy years. Asbestos cancer of the lungs, heart lining and stomach and digestive tract are each very distinct diseases that need specific treatments. Unfortunately are all very difficult to diagnose and could not manifest itself for many years, or after it has become well-established within the body.
Victims of asbestos cancer or mesothelioma are encouraged to file cancer lawsuits for compensation for damage brought on by exposure to asbestos. These lawsuit enable them to to seek reparations for lost income, medical bills, pain and suffering because of their illness of that of the family member.
Manufacturers or employers of asbestos, and asbestos related products could be attributed and financially liable for these expenses. It’s particularly devastating when it is proven these companies were conscious of the danger that their employees were exposure. It is your right, and obligation towards the well-being of your family, seek compensation for the suffering.
If you have been diagnosed with cancer due to contact with asbestos, you must act immediately speak with a qualified and expert lawyer. They will guide you through your rights and procedures and knowledge you’ll need for any lawsuit. The reason for such immediate action is the fact that each state has statutes of limitations for such cases; oftentimes the companies aren’t running a business, and when law suit has required these phones reserve a fund for asbestos sufferers, when those funds is gone they’re no longer responsible for any reparations to employees or their own families.
Always seek a skilled attorney who is experienced concentrating on the same cases the medical complexities and legal formalities related to asbestos cancer lawsuits. Before you are consumed by the volumes of knowledge on the web and television, find a starting place having a directory or cancer resource guide. There are several of these non-legal, non-medical information guides which will cut through most of the advertising and set you in touch with those agencies that may genuinely help you and your loved ones.
There’s two basic kinds of asbestos cancer lawsuits – a personal injury claim and manslaughter lawsuit. In the case of an accident lawsuit an asbestos cancer patient files to claim for damages which includes medical expenses both past and present, loss of earnings or wages, suffering and pain. In case of wrongful death lawsuit, it is filed by survivors of an asbestos cancer victim for that untimely death of the relative. The lawsuit covers claim for income, protection, care service and companionship. The legal system for each kind of lawsuit varies according to states; it depends upon in which the claim has been filed and where the victim was subjected to asbestos.
Look for assistance to find to define what you should do either like a victim of contact with asbestos or as a member of the family for reparations with this devastating disease.
Ah…Walking down memory lane. I don’t think there is one single individual on the face of this earth that hasn’t done that. Looking back and remembering the way things were. The smiles, laughter, tears, hopes and dreams; it is something that never grows old, even though we do.
Memories are things that just happen as we live life. As we pave a path for ourselves in this world, there are people, places, and things that occur, happen or take place in our lives that will go into the annals of our minds as memories. Some things we are happy to share, and other things we try to keep locked up to only ourselves or a very trusted close friend.
It’s funny how memories work. Sometimes it’s a song or a place that can just, out of the blue, throw us back down to remembering when. These memories are powerful. They can trigger tears, laughter and even fear from out of the depths of nowhere. Ever have those moments when you stop and wonder, “Where did that feeling or emotion come from?”
We all make our own memories. I remember my Dad always saying, “It’s your bed. You make it and you have to sleep in it.” He meant the kind of lifestyle that I was choosing to live was going to be the kind of memories I would have. I made some, not so good decisions, when I was younger, and some of the memories that I have are not very fun go back and walk through, but they are mine none the less. Your memories belong to you.
Memories are good. It’s good to walk down memory lane and think about those fun times with a very special person. Even bad times maybe good to go back and remember, so that you can heal from something that has happened, but it’s when we park in those memory halls, that we can get in trouble. Not just trouble for us, but for anyone around or near to us.
People who are haunted by an ugly or tragic past can be scared and maimed for the rest of their lives. It will affect every single aspect of their futures. Marriage, children, career, our very mental and physical condition can be thwarted out of control because of relentless memories from the past that continue to chase and pursue us.
I have a very close and dear friend who has a past that she has had a difficult time dealing with. She has been to counselors, talked with members of the clergy, and very good friends, but nothing has given her any relief.
There have been some very tragic events that have happened over the past five years, that have brought some of these ugly memories to the surface. They have over flowed into her marriage, children and friends. All these relationships have been affected by these memories. Her mother suffered with pancreatic cancer for eighteen months, before she finally succumbed to very horrible decease. It was not an easy time for her or her family and it left some very negative memories in the halls of her mind.
Next her father, who was totally lost without his wife of fifty-five years, was constantly leaning on her for his very existence. He would call her sometimes fifteen or twenty times a day. This put a lot of stress and burden on her marriage. With some help from her husband, she carried the bulk of this load all by herself.
After about fifteen months from her mother’s death, her father had a massive heart attack and died, but her terrible ordeal was not yet over. She had another friend who died of cancer and a niece who also contracted cancer, but she is on the recovering side. She is in her early thirties and is winning her battle with this dreadful decease. Next a very close friend who has cancer and is not winning her battle. This is someone who she has known since she was in kindergarten. They grew up together and shared all of life together. They are not just friends, they are like sisters, and this one is going to really hurt. She is not expected to survive the week as I write this article.
I don’t know how many of you have been effected by cancer in your families, but to those who have, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I hate cancer. I wish I had a magic wand and could just go around and touch everyone with a cure for this decease that is from the pit of hell. My father died of lung cancer.
She really has not a a time to process all these ugly events in her life. She is a kind and giving person, who hates to see her family and friends suffer from anything, especially cancer, and I know it just is killing her inside, to see this entire thing take place, when all you can do is just try to make them as comfortable as possible.
My closing point in all this is the very thin line that we walk, when we stroll down those halls of our memory. It is so tempting to get lost in the good ones and try to erase the bad ones. It is so easy to pull up a chair and decide to park myself right there and forget the present that I’m living in. I can get very selfish when I stroll down that hall. It’s all about me and my memories. They belong to me.
Some people even talk and wish that they could go back to the past. They speak of how good things were back then. They carry pictures and constantly dream and look back at those times as if they were still there….to the determent of their spouse, children and people who love them right now. You see, these people were not a part of that past and by you always looking back… you never move forward with them. You hurt your relationship with them. You might as well be carrying a sign that says, “I don’t care about anyone here. I just wish I was back there.”
Memories are good and it is good to go walking down the hall of your memories, but be very careful. They can sometimes overwhelm you and start affecting your relationships with people here and now. The past is the past. There is no guarantee of the future. The present is exactly that. It is a gift from God. Enjoy it and embrace it.

Question by mission_viejo_california: Passive Smoking Doesn’t Cause Cancer?
UK Sunday Telegraph…
Passive Smoking Doesn’t Cause Cancer – Official
Headline: Passive Smoking Doesn’t Cause Cancer – Official
Byline: Victoria MacDonald, Health Correspondent
Dateline: March 8, 1998
The world’s leading health organisation has withheld from publication a study which shows that not only might there be no link between passive smoking and lung cancer but that it could even have a protective effect. The astounding results are set to throw wide open the debate on passive smoking health risks.
The World Health Organisation, which commissioned the 12-centre, seven-country European study has failed to make the findings public, and has instead produced only a summary of the results in an internal report. Despite repeated approaches, nobody at the WHO headquarters in Geneva would comment on the findings last week.
The findings are certain to be an embarrassment to the WHO, which has spent years and vast sums on anti-smoking and anti-tobacco campaigns. The study is one of the largest ever to look at the link between passive smoking – inhaling other people’s smoke – and lung cancer, and had been eagerly awaited by medical experts and campaigning groups. Yet the scientists have found that there was no statistical evidence that passive smoking caused lung cancer.
The research compared 650 lung cancer patients with 1,542 healthy people. It looked at people who were married to smokers, worked with smokers, both worked and were married to smokers, and those who grew up with smokers. The results are consistent with there being no additional risk for a person living or working with a smoker and could be consistent with passive smoke having a protective effect against lung cancer.
The summary, seen by The Sunday Telegraph, also states: “There was no association between lung cancer risk and ETS exposure during childhood.” A spokesman for Action on Smoking and Health said the findings “seem rather surprising given the evidence from other major reviews on the subject which have shown a clear association between passive smoking and a number of diseases.”
Dr Chris Proctor, head of science for BAT Industries, the tobacco group, said the findings had to be taken seriously. “If this study cannot find any statistically valid risk you have to ask if there can be any risk at all. “It confirms what we and many other scientists have long believed, that while smoking in public may be annoying to some non-smokers, the science does not show that being around a smoker is a lung-cancer risk.”
Best answer:
Answer by Daniel L When have facts ever stopped people from cramming their idealogy down our throats? I smoke, and I avoid crowded areas to give people that don’t smoke enough range as to not be around me. I know a lot of people hate the smell of cigarettes. I’m cool with that. And many public places, no problem if I can’t smoke. I am in the minority now so I go with the flow of the majority.
However, do gooders have passed laws where I live we can’t even smoke in bars anymore. I’m not talking restaurants, I mean straight up bars. At what point do the rights of people that own building supercede the rights of people who can choose to or to not frequent the establishment? Absolutely insane.

Did you know that colon cancer is one of the fiercest killer diseases in the USA that claim thousands of lives every year? Unknown to many, it can be prevented by incorporating few lifestyle changes and a regular screening. In fact, it has been estimated that one-third of deaths from colon cancer can be prevented if people over the age of fifty go for a regular screening test along with regular colon cleansing.
Let us examine how this type of cancer occurs in the colon or rectum. The colon and rectum, which are the part of our digestive system, constitute a long, muscular tube like organ called the large intestine. The first six feet of large intestine is called colon, while rectum covers the last 8 to 10 inches of the large intestine. Sometimes cancer affects both rectum and colon; in that case it may be called colorectal cancer.
The two primary functions of colon include conservation of water in the body and elimination of the waste materials from the system. Then another function of colon is to help the body absorb healthy nutrients from food through the healthy bacteria that reside in the colon.
When the diet is low on fiber, colon finds difficulty from eliminating all the feculent matters from it and fecal matters continue to get stored in colon. This leads to accumulation of toxic elements in it. The toxic environment in the colon can trigger off many health problems among which the most fatal is colon cancer.
The following risk factors can increase the chances of colon cancer in certain persons.
* The chances of developing colon cancer increases with growing age and the disease is most commonly found in the people over fifty years of age. Although, the occurrence of colon cancer at an early age can not be altogether ruled out.
* Colon cancer has a very close relation with dietary habits particularly in the cases where the diet is rich in fat and low in fiber.
* Polyps which begin as benign growths in the walls of colon may lead to the development of cancer and a genetic condition called familial Polyposis, if not taken seriously have proven chances of leading to colorectal cancer.
* Then the people with a family history of colon cancer are more likely to develop colon cancer.
* The patients with ulcerative colitis also run the risk of developing colorectal cancer.
To prevent colon cancer, it is important that you should keep all the internal organs free from mucous and toxins. The organs are at their healthiest and function most efficiently, when they are free of toxins. Colon cleansing can help your body rid itself of toxic elements. A healthy colon in turn aids in the digestive process and regains its natural efficiency in eliminating the wastes from your system.
You can choose from a number of colon cleansing techniques that range from taking herbal supplements and oxygen based oral capsules to colon irrigation with hydrotherapy.
To summarize, colon cancer is a preventable disease if you become a little careful about what you consume. Colon cleansing at regular intervals along with a healthy dietary practice reduce the chance of developing colon cancer even more.
