We have a lopi wood burning fireplace that was manufactured in 1986-1989. I am wondering if the door gasket is asbestos material? It is white and starting to fray. Its in the shape of a rope. Also, the flue/chimney is selkirk metalbestos brand made in 1986. Does this double wall chimney have asbestos insulation or would it be a different material?

It is doubtful there is any asbestos, but the ONLY way to know is to have the material tested. Age, color, shape, smell, look, etc can not definitively ever tell you.
