my grandfather is suffering from esophageal cancer and the doctors have discontinued use of his pain medications since he can no longer swallow the pills. He is now recieving small doses of morphine throughout the day. the nurses told us to not give him any coffee, however my aunts are trying to give him coffee to make him happier. he has also been given thick fluids to prevent any liquid from entering into his lungs. what are the effects of these two substances in use together (besides pneumonia)? i need help immediately! I just do not want to see him suffer more than he should just because my bitchy aunts dont know how to listen to the doctors.

Caffeine counteracts the pain reliever of morphine. There can also be breathing problems when this happens. Although you just said they stopped giving him pain meds…Morphine is a pain med. If he is passing away, let him die happy.

You can always fire the attorney. If you get another attorney, and a settlement, the first attorney and the second will hash out how much each gets of your settlement assuming this is contingency based.

Im so scared and paranoid. Im a 14 year old male and i used to smoke but only for about 2 months. i used to smoke tabacco and marijuana. Ive probably been inhaling second hand smoke for a good 3 or 4 months. But im very worried. My throat hurts lately and it feels almost inflamed and very uncomfertable. Im having trouble swallowing. Ive been coughing excessively and when i try to clear my throat of phlegm it just wont go away. My throat almost feel like its throbbing sometimes. Ive been having difficulty breathing as well. My cehst feels very tight. Im very scared i could have lung, larynx or throat cancer. Or some other condition. My grandpa died of emphysema so its possible i could have gotten it through genes. I was also born with mild asthma. I feel very fatigued most of the time and out of energy. Perhaps relating to the fact that im out of breath. I mean i really didnt smoke for that long and i definetely wasnt a heavy smoker either !! I smoked ONE black and mild a day and a blunt every 1 or 2 weeks. Please im to the point of dispair !! If i tell my parents to take me to the doctor theyll just overreact and get worried. And probably say i told you so. So i just dont know what to do. Do you think i could have any seriouse disease ?! I can barely sleep at night thinking about it, im so worried.

Suppose somebody is diagnosed with testicular cancer when they are like 18 or 19. They undergo chemotherapy and are cured. Are they more prone to developing another type of cancer in the future? If they smoke are they more prone to lung cancer than somebody who never had anything? Or is it just random? thank you
P.S. please dont tell me anti-smoking answers. I don’t smoke I’m just wondering because a few of my friends and I have discussed this before and were not really sure. I did however have testicular cancer.

I was curious if any sort of cat scan or brain X-ray shows any thing different with an individual with a mental illness such as schizophrenia or paranoia compared to someone who was completely normal. Sort of Like a chest X-ray can pick up lung cancer but the same thing with a mental illness. Does any machine pick it up?

a mental illness can not be picked up by some machine. diagnosing mental illness is based on observation of how one acts and the symptoms they are displaying, and medication is largely guesswork, a medicine that may work for one person with a certain mental illness may make another person with the same mental illness worse.

Anything out of the ordinary should be a reason for concern. If the tech/Dr. who read it did not appear concerned about it, then you should be ok.
But in all honesty you won’t know until it is investigated further…speak to your Dr.

I am panicking ahead.. of time. She can be around a year.. less or several. Its an unpredictable disease. Some people are survivors for 4 years.. some 7.. some less then 3. My dad 8 months but he stopped chemo after 2 tries. But.. I am in an old two family lower suburban home. There is a lot of repairs that need to be done. But .. I do the best I can. Keep it neat and clean and made it home. I love to plant flowers outside. The neighborhood section .. although the police department is 2 blocks up the road.. if that.. the area/section is not great if you know what I mean. I have neighbors on each side that are good people. That helps.. they keep to themselves though. But.. I am protected that way. But.. the water and heat … alone plus the utilities bring the rent up way above the cost of the 2 bedrooms that I don’t need one day.. But.. my mom hates moving.. and has a lot she worries about.. I am thinking it might stress us both out more .. especially her.. and I don’t want her thinking I am giving up on her so soon.. But.. I don’t want to get stuck being unable to pay. The basement gets very wet in the snow and rain.. I could not even rent it out or fix/rent it out… for extra money. I did consider getting a full small home.. which I have seen for about 50.00 more a month.. but I would have full access and a yard for my dogs.. and if the basement is finished .. I could rent it out for like 300.00 a month for a cushion. I am looking into a 2 months course to be a CNA then planning to take about 3-4 class prior to a 1 year LPN course.. that I hope my mother is still here to see .. I am in the midst of this crisis and hardship..” its hard sometimes to see the forest from the tress” Hope someone can set me straight on what realistic would be my best choice and why. I am too close to the situation and too emotionally charged to determine this at this time. She is all I have.. and yes.. later on once I complete these goals I can have the choice to stay for a bit or go elsewhere.. But.. not knowing when she will pass is the rush.. I feel and pressure for time. I suppose I am just trying to be cautious.. and plan ahead.. but.. at the same time.. I love her and don’t want to rock her world even more then the hard hit she just had with the diagnosis.

Hi Lisa, I understand your dilemma, my dad had lung cancer and after 9 months did sadly die from it, I moved away, not to get away from him, but to continue my own life (university).
To this day, 7 years on, I still hate myself for it. The house we lived in wasn’t too nice, nor was the area, but moving him would have done more harm than good, so I moved instead.
If you think it’ll cause your mother more stress, especially as you said she doesn’t like moving, stay with her. I know some people will think you don’t need to put your life on hold, but if I could do one thing in this world, it would be to turn back time and not move away from my dad. It’s something I’ll regret for the rest of my life.
Financially, if you’re struggling, I don’t see why you and your mother can’t move into the house you’ve seen that costs £/$ 50 more, you could just ensure prior to her moving that everything is nicely sorted for her. Also, check out the renting availability in your area, you don’t want to have a vision of renting and collecting rent, then not being able to find a tenant because there isn’t a demand.
I hope you enjoy your time with your mum, and ultimately, do what you believe is right; I just hope you don’t end up regretting it like I do. Good luck.

Sometimes.
Some cancer treatments, while “curing” your current cancer can increase your risk of developing different cancers in the future.
I was warned of this by my oncologist as part of the decision making process for my cancer.
I made the decision that a future with increased cancer risk was better than no future at all and had the treatment.

I’ve had asthma symptoms my whole life, but they haven’t gotten really bad until the last year. I recently began to write down my symptoms. Wheezing and coughing and excessive mucus after being outside, or when I cook. No allergies to animals. Only after being outside for a few hours. My son uses Albuterol with a nebulizer for lung issues (not asthma), so I began to use some of his medicine when I had an attack.
No health insurance … decided to go to a doctor and pay cash.
I tell him all my sypmtoms and he tells me he will give me antibiotics, it can’t possibly be astham, because i would have been diagnosed as a child, or would have had trouble in P.E. in school. I insist that these symptoms are like my Grandmother had (she had asthma). He says, it could be a lung infection. I said, for this long? He said, yes, that happens, and it could also be tuberculosis. He takes an X-ray and a Pulminary Function test. Everything was normal. I had to insist for a puffer. What do you think?

with chemotherapy her doctors give her two and a half years, but she does not want to go through it again. She decided not to subject her body to those poisons and try more holistic healing methods. And she is able to live with that decision.
Her husband wants to take her traveling and make a “Bucket List” but she only wants life to continue on without any special considerations.
I am wondering if things go bad, how bad will they get and what kind of life can she expect to live in the meantime? I understand the harsh treatments of cancer, I have seen what the treatments can do and it takes a toll on a person, but wouldn’t facing death do the same thing?
How does one come to a decision like this, if it was your loved one would you try and change their minds, and how would you go about it? Or, would you honor their decision and make it as easy on them as possible?

the decisions concerning death and dying are very personal and each person needs to make those decisions to make themselves happy. They should be able to make there piece with God there own way and then be supported In their decision.
