Q&A: Can anyone here read Ct Abdomen & Pelvis lab results?
Question by Song_bird: Can anyone here read Ct Abdomen & Pelvis lab results?
My labs come in & i have a few questions;
Ct Abdomen & Pelvis, lung base=normal,Liver=Mild farry infiltration change. No discrete lesion. Spleen=Normal. Kidneys=Several small subcentimeter low densities in both kidneys. Probable cysts, no worrisome lesion is suspected. The ureters are not dilated. Peritoneum= No free air; Cholecystectomy clips.
Bowel=No Obstruction. Appendix=normal, 16mm folicle on left ovary
Findings=Multiple small low densities in both kidneys have the appearance of small cysts. This is more than we see in a patient this age. Recommend family history of possible cystic renal disease in family.
Follow up tests showed=
Right kidney=Mid one third of kidney is a echogentic density w/o definite acoustic shadowing could be a cyst or ectatic calix with some debris within it, non shadowing calculus. Superior Pole a sonolucent mass with echogentic posterior wall felt to represent a cyst about 8mm in diameter. The mid one third of kidney has another lesion with same characteristics constitent with a cyst that is about 8 to 10 mm in diameter & Left kidney= sonolucent mass consistant with a cyst, good shadowing, distally about 1.4×1.4x 1 cm in size. More low density lesions seen. Benefit to do follow up on these parent cysts. Both kidneys normal in size and contour. no evidence of hydronephrosis.
I’m not really worried except the lab said i have to many cysts for my age. My family doctor told me i don’t. Is this to many cysts?
Mild fatty not farry it’s late..
It doesn’t say that you have polycystic kidney disease or other major pathology. One person I know has to talk to the ultrasound technician every time that a kidney ultrasound is done.
>>>>>>>>>>>
The tech told me i had to many my family doctor said i don’t it just made me confused a little. I have pain in my right side so much i can’t walk and it is very painful. I had so many tests but they are finding nothing. I guess i just want to stop hurting all the time.

There are multiple cysts described by the imaging studies, however in cases of polycystic kidney disease there are usually MANY MANY more cysts than the 3 or so you have.
I think your family doctor is right and I don’t think you need to be investigated for polycystic kidney disease.
It would, however, be prudent to keep an eye on the kidney function – to take a urine test and blood test from time to time (?annually) to keep an eye on things.

Is it possible if anyone doesn’t have Blood Pressure?
Question by Still Alive: Is it possible if anyone doesn’t have Blood Pressure?
My mother is 45 years old. She diagnosed with Lung Cancer (None Small Cell Cancer) a month before. She is now under Chemotherapy treatment. When we took her to the Doctor yesterday, the Nurse tried to check her Blood Pressure but it was so strange that her Blood Pressure could not appear in Blood Pressure Monitor. My elder brother told to the Doctor, he then checked her pulse it was OK but he didn’t describe that why can’t her blood pressure appear on the monitor.
So can anyone explain it that how is it possible? Please give me some information.
Thanks,

My Dog Speck Has Breathing Problems, Does anyone know what this could be?

This is my little dog, Speck, and he has these breathing episodes. If anyone recognizes these breathing patterns and knows what the cause may be, please let me know. This little guy is the world to me, and I just want to know if there is anything I can do to stop these episodes or possibly prevent them from getting worse. They typically happen about once every 3 days, sometimes as much as twice a day, and sometimes he wont have them at all for a few weeks. His Vet has not seen these videos yet, but when i described the behavior to him, he said it was a “reversed sneeze”. However, the videos that I have seen on Youtube of dogs with a reverse sneeze doesn’t look or sound at all like what Speck experiences. Speck is a Chihuahua/Terrier mix. In August 2010 he will turn 6. Thanks

Anyone here ever had to deal with a NODULE on one of thier lobes (lung)?
Question by : Anyone here ever had to deal with a NODULE on one of thier lobes (lung)?
Best answer:
Answer by curious me
Not me, but my friend did. Dr. found a small nodule in her lung and advised “watchful waiting.”
She waited 3 mos. and then 3 mos. again. It hasn’t grown much, so she is still “watching.”
Ask your doctor if “watchful waiting” is still an option for you.
Good Luck and Take Care.

Has anyone got any hints on curbing the pain of neuropathy in feet at night?
Question by : Has anyone got any hints on curbing the pain of neuropathy in feet at night?
I have neuropathy from taking chemo for over 3 years. The chemo seems to do a pretty good job of keeping the cancer at bay in my lungs, but the neuropathy from the chemo can sure cause some long nights, sometimes. I can take meds for it, but they only do so much, and the side effects are not too great, so does anyone know of a good holistic approach to alleviate some of the pain?

Question by : In need of some ( serious) advise on my behalf. Anyone opposing this will be deleted. See Below.>>?
I am in need of some serious advise. I am an adult woman in need of food. I have been collecting food stamps for awhile now..because I have been out of work for a long.. time. My name is only on my lease. My mom who has lung cancer lives with me. I am only on my food stamps. She buys her own food. I did recently get a part time job on some weekends and one week day night with a Catering company. I start in May. I am going to get a pretty good wage per hour. But.. will probably be able to still collect because of the lack of hours. I had to take whatever I could get at this point and because I care for my mother in the day and take her to her appointments for her cancer.
Today.. I get a knock on the back door. It was a woman from the Human Services department. She asked if my mother lives here. (Of course I said no) I don’t want to go to jail or prison.. but we need food. My mothers money will be going for chemo treatments which will be the price of a new fully loaded Hummer when all is said and done. This is life. As with the economy.
I need to know what you would do…Or what I can do.. on my behalf.. to save my butt here. I am trying to be a good daughter and have been doing all the right things here. I don’t want problems. I wish I never answered the door but I did. The woman for some strange reason did not ask who I was/my name. She said she heard or has down that she lives with her daughter. My mother goes sometimes.. to the hospital or clinic in town to see a doctor. That is the only place she told she lives with me. Who would think.. you can’t even or should withhold whom you live with these days. But.. you do.
My moms mail comes here. I thought about getting a PO Box .. but that will cost 60-90.00 a year. Should we do this?
Because of my moms condition.. I can’t be moving and we can’t afford to be without food. My mom worked in her life 25 years for a factory. But.. as I said chemo is threw the roof expensive. I spoke with people who spent 30 thousand and another 100,000.00 on it. That is the food money right there. We have to live. I am so.. upset. Please .. Help Us.
Thanks.

There is very little that isn’t known about people in the system. All sorts of information is linked to people’s social security numbers, and the woman who came to your door really was on the right track. When dealing with agencies that provide services to low income people, it is best to be honest, as the downside can have severe consequences. You may be better off all around if you reveal your situation to whatever agency or agencies are active in your case. You might receive more benefits once your situation can be examined in a new light. Also, don’t threaten people with deletion. It isn’t necessary or polite.

Does anyone know anything I can do for Colon Cancer Fundraising?
Question by smashing126: Does anyone know anything I can do for Colon Cancer Fundraising?
My dad was diagnosed a couple of months ago with Stage 4 colon cancer. I have been reading everything I can on it, but one of the things this oh-so-preventable-cancer is missing is the type of fundraising I only seem to find for breast cancer. I want to do everything I can to do my part to raise awareness and raise money if I can. Please let me know if you know how to do so.
Anything local to the PA, NJ, DE, MD aread would be even better!
Best answer:
Answer by Doctor J
Your desire to help with this important health issue is wonderful. You may want to start by contacting your local chapter of the American Cancer Society (ACS). You should find them in the phone book.
The ACS may have fund-raising programs you can assist with. You may also be able to work with them to start a special program specifically for colon cancer if they do not already have one.
There are plenty of ways to raise funds for cancer awareness. Here are a few ideas:
1) a walk for colon cancer (walkers get friends and family to ‘sponsor’ their walk with a donation for each mile the person walks)
2) a raffle/drawing (donated artwork, cruise or vacation tickets, a 50/50 drawing, etc.)
3) sell tee-shirts, mugs, hats, etc. with a logo about supporting colon cancer awareness
4) a community auction – get local people and businesses to donate items to the auction
5) sell ribbons, pins, etc. to show support for colon cancer awareness.
Best wishes and good luck.

Does anyone know any natural remedies for Esophagus Cancer?
Question by : Does anyone know any natural remedies for Esophagus Cancer?
My grandmother was recently diagnosed with esophagus cancer. It’s in the later stages. She hasn’t started any treatment yet. But I know there’s natural remedies out there for curing cancer, anyone know any? Thanks.
Best answer:
Answer by Panda
If there was an ‘easy’ way to cure cancer . . don’t you think those of us who have lost children to cancer would know about it . . don’t you think we left no stone unturned trying to save their lives. There is no ‘natural remedy’ . . if there was no one would be dying from cancer. And yet the misinformation and myths persist.

Anyone ever heard of Coccidioidomycosis,(Valley Fever), and known of anyone who had a ‘nodule’ in their lung?
Question by Chickster: Anyone ever heard of Coccidioidomycosis,(Valley Fever), and known of anyone who had a ‘nodule’ in their lung?
According to doctors, I had a 3.5cm,(1 3/8″), nodule suspected to be cancer in my lower left lobe of my lung. CT Guided Needle Biopsy proved inconclusive, so entire lower lobe was removed, Fri. the 8th. Pathologists say it’s a nodule formed by ‘Valley Fever’. I had worked in South New Mexico in oil exploration in early eighties. From what I have read a cold, or flu are the common symptoms, anyone ever heard of anyone with my condition?
Best answer:
Answer by Boo.
Yes. A good friend of mine at church had it, and, oddly enough, my dog contracted it too. I live in Phoenix, where a lot of dust is kicked up by new construction. They think that’s how my dog got it. There are mild cases, and then there are serious cases. It’s a very real condition, and it’s more serious than the name implies. I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery!

Has anyone ever tried Electronic Cigarettes before it was banned?
Question by : Has anyone ever tried Electronic Cigarettes before it was banned?
( i know Italy permits use and sales , so maybe someone from ITALY CAN HELP ME )) I read in wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_cigarette that there wasn’t enough trials and studies to substantiate its effectiveness. But i am interested to know if you have used it from your experience if it works and how did/does it feel when using them? Do you get a buzz like with real tobacco products? I read in the Wiki that there was not enough clinical studies and toxicity analyses conducted and within the proper regulatory framework so therefore it’s effective cannot be proven.
But on a personal level if you used it how did you feel after wards?
thanks!
Wiki: “The health effects of using electronic cigarettes are currently unknown. Several studies regarding the long-term health effects of inhaling nicotine vapor are currently in progress.” ( sourced from Wiki )
ALSO do you know of any other aid to quitting smoking devices that do not contain carcinogens and toxic-ants ( such as nicotine gum as this may cause oral cancer -) ( quoted from wiki: Nicotine replacement therapies, such as nicotine gum, that were used for long periods of time may be associated with an increased risk of contracting oral cancer.[14]

anyone out there have any help for diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis?
Question by : anyone out there have any help for diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis?
My husband was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis about 1 year and a half ago. He began a horrific cough about 5 months ago. The doc says he has never seen anyone who had a cough as the main symptoms with the fibrosis. Anyone else have a terrible cough with the fibrosis. Some have said he has interstatial and some have said he has idiopathic. He has lost his voice – I’m gong to say from the horrific coughing. He has been placed on 80mg of prednisone early on and then on 40 for 2 months. He is now down to 20mg. He is also on chemo therapy in hopes to stop the progression of the fibrosis. I really need some help.
He is on oxygen at night and on bad days. It breaks my heart to listen to him cough himself into breathlessness.
Best answer:
Answer by C B
IP6… Inositol Hexaphosphate , Also called Phytic Acid. It is a dietary supplement that is very very safe and has been found to help in pulmonary fibrosis caused by irritants like asbestos. You should check into it. Also rice bran oil added to the diet. Check out these two products on the net there is a lot of info. Also something called resveratrol. There is only one brand that I know of that is packaged correctly not to lose it’s properties, and that is longevinex, but there may be other brands out now. The resveritrol actually has a medical study behind it: http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S1094553906000848

Question by Dickensgal: Has anyone covered a floor with carpet samples? How do you do it?
I am trying to set up functional housing for my son who hasn’t worked in years. He has no money, so it has to be do it yourself at the least possible cost. There is vinyl asbestos tile on these floors, all broken up at the edges by carpet tack strips. I’d like to cover it if possible. Any help greatly appreciated.

My husband and I did this many years ago when we first married. We actually sewed the carpet pieces together using an upholstery needle. It was very difficult. I think today I would use carpet tape. Much quicker and no blisters!

Has anyone ever been to cancer treatment centers of america? if so how was your experience?
Question by MomOf1boy: Has anyone ever been to cancer treatment centers of america? if so how was your experience?
My mother was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma a few weeks ago, she has an 11.6 centimeter mass on her left kidney. She was hospitalized last weekend because they gave her morphine for pain, it dropped her blood pressure extemely low. That is when we found out the cancer had spread to other organs (liver, pancreas, lymph nodes and stomach) the doctors said she would only make it a few weeks to a month. That is when I looked into this cancer center, her insurance has been approved and they want to schedule her flight asap. I just want to know if anyone out there has had good results with ctca? I have a friend who goes with her mother who had breast cancer metasis to her liver and bone who goes to ctca and she said they were great. Are they as wonderful as my friends mom says?
My mom is also doing better now, she’s home from the hospital and she’s not as weeks and she’s eating . My mom says she’s ready to fight this.
