My Grandpa has very advanced stage 4 cancer to multiple areas of body. No treatment as declined, how long?
Question by : My Grandpa has very advanced stage 4 cancer to multiple areas of body. No treatment as declined, how long?
The areas he has been told he has cancer in are his lymph nodes, kidneys, lungs top and bottom lobe, adrenal glands, and showing up on aorta and spine. He has had 4 open heart surgeries in his lifetime already….. any information would be helpful in wanting to know what to expect. Right now he seems good, but I know that can change quickly. Anyone had any experience such as this?

What does the doctor say? Your grandfather’s doctor is better able to make a prognosis than someone on an anonymous internet forum.
I can only say that my aunt was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer last fall and died last week, but your grandfather, given his health history, may have a different trajectory.

If cancer has metastasized into three different areas, what is the chances of survival?
Question by ~* Garden Empress*~: If cancer has metastasized into three different areas, what is the chances of survival?
My grandfather has cancer in three different regions of the body. He has brain cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer. What is the rate of survival for these cancers with intense treatment? What are the chances more cancerous cells will metastasize in his body even if there is a chance of survival?
I kind of figured that, his brain cancer was found first. That tumor is inoperable and its the size of a egg. This tumor is located inside the left hemisphere, near Wernicke’s area and is affecting his speech. The most recent discovery is the spot on his lung, and I dont have much information on that one, and all I know from family is the conformation that he has prostate cancer. Three different cancers. I’m sure there’s little hope but I thought I would try to get some more information. Its very stressful not knowing what to expect from this. THanks for the answer

Wow that’s a doozie. I am really really sorry about that. Based on the information you gave, I would say that his odds of survival are well under 10%. Of course I can’t be certain, as I am not given much information aside from where the cancer is. Even if he receives that most intense treatment out there he still doesn’t have much more than a prayer.

What can be used to fill small areas of missing asbestos tile?
Question by : What can be used to fill small areas of missing asbestos tile?
After removing carpet I have found a wonderful black and white 9X9 square tile floor on a concrete slab. There are “pot holes” through out the room. Some are divots in the concrete and some are from chipped corners of the tile. I have found that I can paint the concrete to look like the tile. The problem is that where I first painted, there use to be a wall. There were no tiles laid for that 15′ X 5 1/2″ stripe in the center of the room. Now that the paint looks so much like the original tile, I want to make the floor smoother where the tile has chipped away or was never installed under previous walls. Any suggestions? I can email pictures of the floor if needed.
Thanks for any guidance
Best answer:
Answer by me
There is nothing stopping you from putting a different tile in those areas..You can lay a mosaic or different size black and white. Smooth the floor under the gouged areas. Yes, a picture would help alot.

Asbestos isn’t a problem till you start mucking with it. Do not muck with it leave that to a professional. But patching and repairing isn’t an issue..And yes pull that glue up and get the same kind. Asbestos tiles were great in the day and wore wonderfully sure you can paint them.

In Australia, the best thing to do to reduce mortality would be to scrap the entire healthcare system and start from scratch with a privately run system.

Q&A: Breast cancer-can the same spot be radiation-ed twice? Can new cancers, new areas, also require radiation?
Question by John: Breast cancer-can the same spot be radiation-ed twice? Can new cancers, new areas, also require radiation?
Is there a limit to how many times a woman can require radiation in cancer treatment? If found in different places do you keep doing radiation to each new spot (breast cancer)
Best answer:
Answer by Memere RN/BA
Excessive use of radiation isn’t wise. Most Drs will use a variety of chemo drugs and there are a lot of good ones out there. My older sister had radiation in one breast as well as chemo. About 2 yrs later, she developed breast cancer in the other breast. Her Dr opted for chemo only this time because she doesn’t like using radiation so much. She feels it can cause more problems if used to much. I guess it depends on your Dr and what she prefers to use. Good question though. Good luck. I wish you the best.

Answer by AutumnWynd777
Pleurisy
Pleurisy is an inflammation of the pleura which is the membrane lining the lungs.
Causes
Pleurisy can be caused in relation to other diseases of the chest e.g. pneumonia, malignancy (lung cancer, mesothelioma). It can also be caused alone. In this case pleurisy is caused by viral infection, bacterial infection or TB. Other causes include systemic lupus erythematosis, rheumatoid arthritis, liver and kidney disease, heart failure and pulmonary embolism.
Clinical picture
Chest pain on the same side of the affected pleura. Pain is characteristically related to breathing. Patients complain that they are unable to take a deep breath without feeling pain. Pleurisy maybe associated with pleural effusion.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis depends on the characteristic clinical manifestations. Examination may reveal pleural friction rub — the abrasive sound of the pleura’s two layers sliding against each other — in this case the diagnosis is clear. Chest X-ray or CT of the chest can be used to exclude associated disease.
Treatment
Treatment of the cause if one is found. After excluding the presence of concomitant diseases treatment can be accomplished with an anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen. Cases accompanied by fever may require antibiotics.

I had a similar issue a few months ago. Look on the internet or local yellow pages for an independent lab. They can tell you how to take samples and they will test it for you for a pretty reasonable cost.

Legal Practice Areas: Mesothelioma, Duragesic/fentanyl, Fleet Phospho-soda
Legal Practice Areas: Mesothelioma, Duragesic/fentanyl, Fleet Phospho-soda
Article by Hissey Kientz, LLP
There are a number of already important or still emerging practice areas which may be of interest to lawyers who represent clients who were injured as a result of toxic exposure that occurred in the workplace, defective drugs or medical devices. This article will look at three specific practice areas that may be of interest to these lawyers: mesothelioma and asbestos cases, the Duragesic or fentanyl pain patch and Fleet Phospho-soda bowel cleansing products.
Mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer that can affect the lining of the heart, chest or abdomen, known as the mesothelium. The disease is caused by exposure to asbestos-a naturally-occurring mineral that was once widely used for insulation or heat-protection until its carcinogenic properties were widely known. However, in spite of widespread knowledge of its dangers, many workers are still exposed to asbestos due to materials and products containing asbestos that are still in use. Many workers in industries such as mining, construction, maritime shipping or manufacturing have developed mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease from being exposed to asbestos dust in the on the job.
The Duragesic pain patch-which is sold generically as fentanyl-has been recalled several times in recent years due to manufacturing problems that could cause a fatal overdose. Because fentanyl gel is 80 times more powerful than morphine, direct skin contact with even a small amount of fentanyl gel can be fatal. Some patients have also suffered a fatal overdose after using a fentanyl or Duragesic patch with a heating blanket, which can increase the rate that the gel is absorbed through the skin. As of 2005, more than 120 deaths had been linked to an overdose caused by a fentanyl or Duragesic patch.
The C.B. Fleet Co. recalled its “Fleet Phospho-soda” and “Fleet Phospho-soda EZ-Prep Bowel Cleansing System” products in December 2008 due to an association with a type of kidney damage. Phosphate crystal deposits can form in the kidneys when Phospho-soda products are used for bowel cleansing, causing a condition known as acute phosphate nephropathy. This condition can impede kidney function and eventually cause irreversible damage to the kidneys which may require transplant surgery.
