Question by : Where can you go for breast cancer treatment in India?
My mother has stage III breast cancer. I wanted to take her to Tata Memorial Center in Mumbai but I hear it’s a lot of hassle and the waiting list is very long. I have the following hospitals in mind: 1. CMC, Vellore 2. Apollo hospitals, Chennai 3. Adyar Cancer Institute, Chennai 4. Dharamshila Cancer Foundation and Research Center, New Delhi. Can you please tell me which of these is the best option? I’m really worried about my mom, and I want to act before it’s too late. Thanks in advance.

This is way out of my field, but I did find this link hope it’s of use, im sorry for your mother, there might be a chance to get on a drugs treatment program with one of the big companies, but you will need a doctor to recommend you.

http://www.health-tourism.com/cancer-treatment/india/

Two things I didn’t think of, firstly try a teaching hospital, that’s where you will find the best in the class, teaching what they know to the next generation.

Im not sure if you can do this, but try asking at NHS Direct, that’s the English health service web site at :-

http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/

You’re a little to far for them to be able to do any thing for you, but may have some advice,

One last link. I found this when I tried looking for recommendations in India.

http://www.bestcancerhospitalindia.com/

Sorry that’s as far as I can go. I wish both you and your mother the very best. CDR

is mastectomy really necessary for a stage 2 breast cancer patient? Is there any other alternatives?

Question by khai: is mastectomy really necessary for a stage 2 breast cancer patient? Is there any other alternatives?
My mom have been diagnosed with a stage 2 breast cancer. the doctor wants her to undergo a mastectomy ( an operation where the whole breast will be removed). But she is scared to undergo such an operation and wants to opt for some herbal medicines that promises to heal cancer patients.

Q&A: Why does everyone care about preventing/detecting breast cancer?

Question by mattpytlak: Why does everyone care about preventing/detecting breast cancer?
It isn’t the most common cancer and it actually has one of the better survival rates. Why don’t we look at pancreatic cancer which has a 5 year survival rate of less than 5%?
It’s not like I’m pro-breast cancer, I just want to know why colon cancer or prostate cancer don’t get the same media treatment. Everyone has seen the pink ribbons but what about the other forms of cancer?

Best answer:

Answer by three3s
do you care about preventing colds, flus, or any other minor ailment? of course you do, because it’s unpleasant at best.

the fact breast cancer kills lots of people every year should make you realise just how stupid this question is.

My cat diagnosed with breast cancer…?

Question by abc123: My cat diagnosed with breast cancer…?
She had her stitches out today from having some lumps removed, and the vet said that the biopsies showed carcinoma in both sites and that the prognosis is not good. It hasn’t reached her lungs and she is showing no symptoms of feeling unwell, and she is going back in a month for another x-ray. She is 10 years old.

Is there anything I can do for her besides care for her and love her? Has anyone else gone through this? Would there be anything I could do to help prolong and increase her quality of life? I was too upset to think to ask, but how long could she possibly live?

Thank you for your help, I appreciate the support.

Best answer:

Answer by Deb C
Tomorrow call your vet and ask about radiation and or chemo therapy. Also ask if the excision of the tumors had good clear margins. I just lost a maine coon to breast cancer. It was too late to do chemo because it was in the lungs already. But it is a possbility in alot of cases.

Q&A: What could it mean if a stage 4 breast cancer patient had “fluid in the heart”?

stage 4 lung cancer treatment
by NationalLungCancerPartnership

Question by gg: What could it mean if a stage 4 breast cancer patient had “fluid in the heart”?
Sorry, details are not available.
She is getting treatment in Mexico, and that is the only info I have.
She already has the breast cancer in her lungs and bones.
She just went for her first chemo treatment, but before the treatment, they got the cardio results, and the “water on the heart” diagnosis came up….

Is this typical of something for breast cancer patients?
Please don’t cut and paste from self-diagnosis websites.
I need to know your personal knowlege and experiences with this occurence.
(Do most b cancer patients have this when the cancer has spread to the heart?)

Cardiac tamponade can result from malignant pericardial effusion and often occurs precipitously. The most common causes are breast cancer, lung cancer, and lymphoma.

What happens after you you have chemotherapy for breast cancer?

Question by : What happens after you you have chemotherapy for breast cancer?
So my teacher had breast cancer surgery and they said she might need chemotherapy and I’m wondering if she will be calmer when she gets back. So just tell me how she will act and look when she gets back and how long it will take her to get back since she was supposed to come back November 2nd. Give me all the information you can:-)

Answer by jackie m
My sister had breast cancer last year and then had the chemo which is done every 3 weeks for 6 months and then radiotherapy every day for 6 weeks and my sister works in an office and was off work for almost 1 year, she lost all her hair and eyebrows and eyelashes and gained weight with the medication and she was very tired and now she has returned to work she only works part time because of the tiredness, all her treatment finished around march this year but takes a long time to get your body back to normal but her personality is just the same as it was before but she appreciates things now knowing that life is too short. It is unlikely your teacher will be calmer than she was as she will have been to hell and back.

Q&A: Why can’t multiple breast cancer mets in lungs just be surgically removed?

Question by Ninninnin: Why can’t multiple breast cancer mets in lungs just be surgically removed?
My wife tells me her doctor says that surgery is not feasible in her situation but I have trouble understanding why there is no quick-fix like just removing the spots in her lungs instead of going for weekly Herceptin treatments. She says the Herceptin is just keeping the cancer from growing any further but it isn’t actually shrinking anything. Shouldn’t she be getting more aggressive treatment to get rid of the cancer? She says that it’s a matter of balancing QOL with treatments and seems fine with the idea of living with cancer. She seems well now and lots of people have trouble believing that she really has cancer. I felt the same way for a long time but am coming to realize that she’s trying pretty hard to stay positive. I guess I’m really trying to figure out what I can do to make it all go away but know that I have to figure out how to deal with it instead.

Best answer:

Answer by celianne
It is a terrible time for you, because you feel so helpless. I am also going through herceptin treatment, but my cancer is clear.
Just listen to what her doctors say and keep positive for her sake – she has got the right attitude. Enjoy every single hour with her – and I wish you both all the luck in the world.
God bless you.

Questions about breast cancer treatment.?

Question by Nikki in PA: Questions about breast cancer treatment.?
A friend has been diagnosed with Stage 2 A breast cancer. Using the TNM system, it is classified as T1 N1 M0. She had a lumpectomy 3 weeks ago along with axillary lymph node dissection. The tumor was almost 2cm and there were 3 nodes that tested positive. The doctor is recommending chemo therapy and then radiate to follow that. Has anyone had cancer around this stage that can tell me about their treatment? How bad was the chemo? How long was the chemo? Etc.. Any and all answers appreciated.
So, if someone gets chemo every 3 weeks, they might get it multiple times within that week? Is this intravenous chemo? I’ve read up on something called dense-dose chemo therapy, where you get that every 2 weeks.. I’m really curious.
Also, what is the survival rate for this type of cancer? I know this is all vague details, since every cancer is so different, but I’ve known alot of people that have not survived cancer.. Is this something most people can survive?

Best answer:

Answer by Erika
I had breast cancer I just completed my treatment about a month and a half ago, I had a mastsctomy done and they also removed three lymph nodes also tested positive. My chemo treatment was six sessions three days out of the week but every 3 weeks followed by 36 session of radiation. Many people say that chemo is a very bad that you lose wait that you throw up all day that you cant eat, Icant tell you that all that is not true but what i will tell you is that i never went through none of that the only thing that i experienced was the last day of each session i had no flavor in my mouth felt tired but just for one day.I believe the reason is that i never seen chemo with fright i went in there letting the cancer cell that i was there to kill them as dumb as it sounds i would literaly talk to them and tell them YOU DONT BELONG IN MY BODY!! yea I know its dumb but hey it worked for me. I believe in the power of the mind if you believe that chemo will get you sick trust me IT WILL. The radiation you really dont feel anything you just lay there. After about 5 weeks the skin will get dark look at it as a very long day at the beach i do recommend to use alot i mean alot of aloe lotion at least 5 times a day they say three is enough but a little extra wont hurt. Other than that its nothing big. As for me the hardest part from chemo was the hair part but like me always making good out of something bad didnt think much of it. Use this time to play with different looks its fun. Hope I helped a little good luck to your friend everything will be fine. Remember that saying what doesnt kill you makes you stronger.

Question by Dior not war: breast cancer treatments now?
i’m doing a research paper on how the treatments for breast cancer nowadays is different than it was in the 1900′s.
I need help to see what the differences are..like what new technology do we have now that we didnt have back then.

please and thank you

One difference, an axial lymph node clearance was once common.
Now a sentinel node biopsy is a far less invasive alternative.

I’m so sorry for your dog, and also sorry I don’t have an answer for you. Maybe the vet should do a chest X-ray to see if there’s cancer or just infection. Try posting your question in the pets-dogs section. There may be other pet owners who have had similar experiences. (Your question posted in the human section.)

Good luck…

Q&A: Tumor Found in Supraclavicular Node 8 months after breast cancer treatment, could this be metastasis? ?

treatment for breast cancer
by Amarand Agasi

Question by Audrey H: Tumor Found in Supraclavicular Node 8 months after breast cancer treatment, could this be metastasis? ?
Diagnosed March 2007 with Stage 1 breast cancer, right breast. Axillary node removed, negative for cancer. Went through chemo and radiation, finished in February 2008. Went to follow-up October 13, first time for follow-up needed a break from doctors for a while. Complained of pain which I have had for the last 2-3 months from top of right breast to over shoulder and down the back. Sono showed tumor in supraclavicular node, right side. I have a CT scan on Thursday the 30th.
What does a CT scan show? Being that I just finished cancer treatment seems metastasis is the likely answer?

Best answer:

Answer by Panda
Hopefully it will turn out to be benign or something different, but yes metastasis is always a worry once you’ve been diagnosed with cancer.
Cancer can be very deceptive. A CT will give a better image of the tumor or spot and also may give indication if there are any more tumors to be seen. Be persistent about this . . you need to know exactly what you are dealing with. Also if this turns out to be nothing it is always a good idea to have CT or even a PET scan to use as a ‘baseline’ . . the doctor needs to have the scans to compare every three to six months to make sure the cancer is gone or to measure tumor shrinkage or track relapse.

Good luck and stay strong.

Can you get breast cancer at 21?

Question by originalwickedgirl: Can you get breast cancer at 21?
I was laying down listening to music today, and so I did a quick self examination- it’s the first examination I’ve done. Near the bottom of my breast, above the rib bone, it feels like there are three pea-sized lumps sort of going in a curve around the outside of my breast.

There’s a history of breast cancer in my family, so I’m in line to get it, but I was just wondering if the lumps could possibly be breast cancer. I started working at a second-hand bookstore that has asbestos tiles, and my coworkers were joking yesterday that we would all either get prostrate or breast cancer from working at the store- I’d kind of shoved the jokes into the back of my mind, until after I did the self-exam today.

I was just wondering if it’s possible for you to get breast cancer at 21 and if I should be worried.
From what I remember of my family history- my great-aunt died from breast cancer when she was in her 70s, and my mom’s cancer was benign and that was when she was in her 40s, I believe.
According to my mom, there isn’t a history of breast cancer in our family, but there is a history of melinoa. But I distinctly remember my grandmother telling me that one of her older sisters died from breast cancer.

Minorities and Breast Cancer-Mayo Clinic

Breast cancer does not discriminate. Any woman of any race can get it. But what many might not know is that minorities such as African Americans, Latinos and Asians tend to develop breast cancer earlier and often have more aggressive tumors than white women. And too often minorities aren’t diagnosed until after the disease has spread. More on breast cancer and minorities from Mayo Clinic.
