This is lengthy. Three days ago I started having difficulty breathing. It felt like I was breathing in hot air, and breathing out hot air. I couldn’t get a satisfying or refreshing breath. Then I started getting an anxiety attack because I couldn’t breathe. I don’t know if this is related to the fact that I stopped taking Wellbutrin cold turkey three weeks ago, and maybe the withdrawal effects are just now catching up. I went to Urgent Care today because I still couldn’t breathe, and they said my O2 was 99%, I didn’t have a fever, and my chest x-ray was clear, as well as my lung sounds. Obviously I’m getting enough oxygen. I do get light headed when I stand up… I have to stop, take a deep breath, hold on to something, and then walk again. I feel like I can breathe better when I lay down, as well as at night when the air is cool. I tried Maalox and it didn’t help. I tried a breathing treatment with Albuterol, but it didn’t help. I started taking the Wellbutrin again three days ago when I first started noticing the symptoms. Hopefully it will kick in again and relieve these problems. I’m scared I have something seriously wrong with me, like HIV or cancer, because I am extremely fatigued, zero energy, just don’t feel good, and can’t catch a breath. I don’t have swollen nodes, not running a fever, don’t have a cough… nothing! But I just can’t breathe! Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone have any ideas as to the cause of this? Thanks!!!

Please help if you can..
My grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer over a year ago, I was told it was a tumor in her right lower portion of her lung, and thought, oh it must not be stage IV or that bad, they removed it, and started her on Tarceva.
I wasn’t informed that much on how she was doing this past year, only that she lost a lot of weight, and that she was going to start chemo because it was getting worse.
I just came down to visit her this last week, and she is a different person.
For a 70 year old woman, she was very active, positive, upbeat, but not this time.
She can’t even walk from one room to another without sitting down because she is so out of breath.
They put her on oxygen a few days ago, but it has done absolutely nothing for her.
I also just found out that it is stage IV nscl, and the papules are taking over her lungs
She told me her breathing has been getting worse and worse the past few months. But now it stopped her from doing everyday activities and chores.
I am so scared for her, and I love her so very much, I don’t know how to deal with this.
We were told by her doctor to go to the emergency room a couple nights ago since the oxygen wasn’t working, they did some more scans, bloodwork, and gave her some more inhalers, as well as a steroid in hopes of helping her breathing.
Nothing is helping, I can see the fear in her eyes, and she is so depressed, she just wants her air back.
I guess they found out today that the chemo she is on is not working, and i don;t think she wants to continue it anymore.
Is there anything that could help get rid of the tumors in her lungs, or is this the end?
Is she going to die from suffocation?
What do I do if she stops breathing while I’m with her? (she lives at her house with her husband)
Are there any naturopathic treatments that can help?

My mother died of lung cancer & I felt helpless to watch what she was going through.
She is getting near the end if oxygen is no longer helping her. All you can do is try your best
to keep her comfortable. There is nothing you can really do but comfort her. She will eventually start to sleep alot. My mother was very scared also so I suggested to the doctors to put her on a mild sedative which helped with the fear. If she stops breathing phone 911. I had to call 911 many times when my mom lost her breath. We made many trips to the hospital. Sadly the hospital will not be able to do much for her when she is close to the end. I understand exactly what you are feeling & going through.
As I say keep her as comfortable as you can and try to be strong for her even though I know its hard.

Its not worrying me, because im trying to fave the fact i am a hypochondriac…..but someone mentioned that it may seem hard to breathe sometimes, even if not having a panic attack, simply because you have a lot of anxiety.

That’s a common side-effect. Sometimes fear of a panic attack causes the attack. I’ve even blacked out before during a panic attack. I thought I was dieing. It was as if all of the life was sucked out of me, then it all came back, suddenly.

To show its support the team in New York took part in Free to Breathe, a fundraising initiative to raise money for lung cancer sufferers. Wanting to show its own support, the Text 100 Sydney team embarked on its own version of ‘Free to Breathe’ with a 5km walk across the Harbour Bridge and into the CBD. New research from a team including several Carnegie scientists demonstrates that a specific small segment of RNA could play a key role in the growth of a type of malignant childhood eye tumor called retinoblastoma. The tumor is associated with mutations of a protein called Rb, or retinoblastoma protein. Dysfunctional Rb is also involved with other types of cancers, including lung, brain, breast and bone. Chest x-rays are showing healthy lungs. Inhalers, corticosteroids, antibiotics are doing nothing for me!

Well, it be caused by either asthma, pneumonia or a fractured rib. If pain persists see your doctor for more tests for that is a sensitive area and needs all the attention.

All my life I have never been able to breath out of my nose. I have a rather large nose and its a funny shape. I don’t have any allergies or breathing disorders (that I know of) so i’m wondering if the shape of my nose has any effects on my nasal passages? Again this has been this way for my whole life and i have no allergies.
on the rare times i can breath out of my nose i can never get a deep breath. I never feel like i fill up my lungs completely

You will know if it is due to heart attack because you will have other symptoms leading up to a heart attack such as , nausea, pain in your chest or arm that radiates, sore neck.

I get that too, someone once told me it was something to do with your diaphragm. Its kind of lower in the chest mine is usually on one side.

At the age of 2, Max was diagnosed with hypothyroid (no thyroid hormones in his body). Recently, he developed a bad disc in his back, but was relieved by prednisone and an anti-inflammatory. He was fine, until suddently his trachea collapsed and did not revert to normal. He developed a bad cough, which led to him not being able to breathe. The hospital said he had fluid around the sack of his heart and around his lungs. He also has “minor” heart disease, but does not need medicine for that. The veterinarian said that they feel that Max has an “ill defying type of cancer going on somewhere in his body.” The took a fluid sample, but I could not afford $ 3-5,000 to have him analyzed. Without the sample, how can they tell Max has cancer? And is there any other reason a little dog would develope fluid around his heart and lung?

I was diagnosed with mild asthma as a result of this problem, but even with my inhaler, I still have these symptoms.
Why can I not breathe when I drink a lot of caffeine? My mind, of course, is wide awake, but I yawn constantly in order to try to get a good, deep breath in. I almost feel like my throat is closing up or that I am hyperventilating after I have a lot of caffeine. Since my body and mind are now addicted to it (and I am a med student), I can’t stay up late to study without drinking a few cups of coffee or taking a caffeine pill. Can anyone explain why I feel this way? Is there anything I can do besides not drinking caffeine? Do I have some sort of breathing disorder (besides asthma)? I’ve tried deep breathing, but it doesn’t really work since I can’t actually get a deep breath.
Yes, I do know there are adverse side effects of caffeine, but I haven’t found anything else that keeps me awake enough for late night studying. Any suggestions?

for a med student you are sure burning the candle on both end….i think you of all people should know better then to take coffee pills and not expect adverse results. Go to a real doctor, get diagnosed properly before you do real harm to yourself and stop breathing….the medical issues you have only a professional can deal with properly

I have had a cough for over a week with some wheezing. I have also been coughing up a lot of phlem. (It’s clear though. Eww, gross I know.) I’m really scared of the lung pain because I don’t know what it could be. I smoke quite a bit of pot daily. I quit cigs. I don’t know if this is related to being sick or related to the smoking. Needless to say I’m scared and worried. Any thoughts on what I have? Keep in mind that the pain is severe.
I did have a fever last friday if that helps. I am an advocate for pot because I feel that it does more good than harm. I don’t feel that there’s anything wrong with smoking it. But anywho, I don’t have any medical insurance therefore I’m not sure what I should do about seeing a doctor.
I am a very heavy pot smoker. I smoke at least 3-4 times a day. I used to smoke cigs but I quit this year. I started smoking when I was 16. I’m 22 now.
I don’t think I have a blood clot. My symptoms are as follows:
-cough (more than a week)
-phlem (clear)
-severe pain under my rib cage on the right side when I cough, breathe, laugh, etc.
-I’ve had the cough over a week, the chest pain started today
-Had a fever a week ago
-Fatigue

It could be pneumonia, then again, it could also be muscular.
Have you got temperature?
To be honest, the best way to get an answer is not here, but going to a doctor and getting an x-ray of your chest. That will show wether you have any kind of laceration in your lungs due to scarring caused by smoking, or if you have fluid from pneumonia.

Are you looking for a great way to spend a summer Saturday with your friends and family while benefiting a great cause? Come on out to the Breathe Easy Music Fest for some memorable family fun. The event, which will take place on July 17, is being held to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and to help raise awareness of this devastating disease.
This is the first annual Breathe Easy Music Fest. It will feature national recording artist and Best New Female Country Artist nominee Tammy Cochran. Cochran is best known for her song “Angels in Waiting” which was written about her two brothers who died from cystic fibrosis many years ago. Cochran will be available for a meet and greet before and after her performance.There will be many other country, folk, soft rock, blues, and classic rock performances by local musicians including party band Bob and the Beachcombers. An acoustic jamming room will also be available, so bring your guitar, banjo, or any other acoustic musical instrument you like.
In addition to music, there will be a silent auction, vendor tents, clowns, face painting, a bounce house, games, and swimming. A picnic-style pig roast and corn roast dinner, which is included in the admission donation, will be served in the evening. Be sure to bring a blanket or some lawn chairs.
Minnesota natives Jill and Rob Olson decided to organize the Breathe Easy Music Fest because cystic fibrosis has affected their lives greatly. Both of their sons have been diagnosed with the disease, but education and aggressive treatment has kept them both healthy in recent years. The Olson family is hosting this open-air music festival on their beautiful 2 1/2 acre property with a huge pool and lots of grass.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the digestive system and the lungs of over 30,000 children and young adults in the United States. The disease is caused by a defective gene that causes the body to produce unusually thick mucus that clogs the lungs, which can lead to life-threatening infections. It also obstructs the pancreas which stops the natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food and its nutrients.
Currently, there is no cure for cystic fibrosis. However, specialized medical care, aggressive drug treatments and therapies, along with proper nutrition can lengthen and improve the quality of life for those with cystic fibrosis. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have helped extend and enhance the lives of those who suffer with the disease. Many of these advancements have been made possible because of donations made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a nonprofit, donor-supported organization whose mission is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis, and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Back in the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to past age 6. Today, the life expectancy is age 40 and beyond.
So dust off your guitar, pack your swimsuit, bring your picnic blanket, and come down to support this important cause. I was not very familiar with this disease so I did some research. Is the type you have cystic bronchiectasis. If it is, according to the source I used, it is the only one whose effects are irreversible.Yet it said nothing about shortening your life span that much. How long have you had the disease? Was it a result of having pneumonia or tuberculosis? According to this source there are medicines to get rid of your excess mucous and exercises you can do to help the process. I would suggest contacting the American Lung Association. I hope they are able to help
