Yet another Tory cut that disproportionately effects the poor. I go to a school that is relaying on this funding, the building was build in 1955 for around 450 students and has had many a extension put on to cope with the rise in pupil numbers. It now has around 1000 pupils.
The original building was riddled with asbestos so they had to demolish nearly half of it, it was replaced with a shoddy tin structure that is to hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. The gym is part of the original building, it has been condemned by the council and we cannot use it, as it leans and is about to topple over at any time. Roofs leak all over the school some have even leaked on to computers. There number of pupils is about 30 in each class. I was in some classes where the number of students was high as 35. And what is even more madness is that the school we were going to merge with is in a even shoddier state! It will cost the LEA more money to fund both schools than merging the two and building a new school. The site was sold of by the Local Authority about 15 years ago, so there is little repair work done by the private company owners. Most of the school dose not have double glazing, or working radiators.
We supposedly have a adequate school, according to the officials. This is a school in a very deprived area, surely we should invest in education. Dose this sound like the sort of school that should have its funding cut. Or am I moaning or maybe the stuck up Eaton Lot should come and look at my school.??

That’s the Tories for you.. And the Lib Dems hasn’t even done anything yet.
Our school was supposed to be built at another site in conjunction with another school nearby but it looks uncertain. The school was built in ’60s or early ’70s so there are a lot of things that need refurbishing, but what with the low funds it isn’t happening.
But.. in the long run, let the Tories do whatever they want. They’ll bring their popularity down, and eventually, maybe Labour will be elected in 4-5 years. It’ll cost them votes.

Back in December my apartment building caught on fire and everything in my apartment that I wasn’t able to retrieve was left inside. Which included my television and game console and various other personal belongings.
So now fast forward to today, I was told after 3 months of by belongings remaining in the apartment that i was finally was going to be able to collect to rest of my belongings.
EXECPT, I got an email from the building’s owner attorney that my stuff inside my apartment was stolen just yesterday, along with 4 other tenants!
I didn’t have insurance when the fire happen, and I’m not entirely sure if my TV even worked since my apartment was pretty soaked.
Also the reason they took forever to finally let me collect my belongings was because there was traces of asbestos and lead after the fire and needed to be cleaned.
So i guess my question is are they,the building owners, obligated to reimburse me for my TV and game console since it was entirely in their care since they didn’t let me collect it?
The construction company working on repairing the building did report it to the police.

NO ONE is liable for your personal belongings unless the lose was caused by their negligence. This is NOT the case in the situation you describe. If you had renter’s insurance, the items would have been covered. As things stand, you have NO legal recourse against anyone.
The above aside, either the e-mail was bogus, or you are lying. Any contact from the property owners attorney would be on physical paper, or in person. There is NO WAY a real attorney would send the e-mail you describe.

There’s a rumor that my landlord will be evicting everyone from our building – 9 apartments in all – in order to turn it into office space. Without a lease, how much notice do they have to give the tenants? Located in Upstate NY, not NYC.
I asked her straight-up if they were going to be going forward with the plan but she just denied it, meanwhile there were contracters in each apartment inspecting for asbestos and taking measurements so…

With no lease, the conversation is over.
You have no contract with the landlord. She can terminate the relationship at the end of any paid month.
Going forward, get it in writing.

Hello on this Thursday, the 19 day of July 2007. I’m Kristin Volk with a UPI Headline Update. The death toll in India is rising after a seven-story building partially collapsed. At least 25 are dead and many more injured in the incident that happened yesterday in Mumbai, India’s financial capital. Officials say dozens of victims are still trapped in the rubble. Authorities believe the collapse could have resulted from faulty repair work. The building houses offices, shops and residential apartments. Officials at the world’s biggest nuclear power plant in Japan are apologizing after Monday’s earthquake there. They say there are at least 50-quake related problems at the plant, which is now shut down. That includes a transformer fire, broken pipes, water leaks and spills of radioactive waste. Officials also suggest that a major fault line may run underneath the power plant itself. Japan’s coast guard is launching a study to better map fault lines in the area. Two separate explosions rocked the country of Pakistan today. More than thirty people are dead. In one incident, a bomb exploded at a bus stop in Southwest Pakistan. Authorities say the attack was aimed at Chinese engineers. In a second incident, police say a suicide bomber drove an explosives-packed car through the gates of a police training center in northwest Pakistan.
