So,the notorious disease known as Cancer (or malignant neoplasm as it’s called by doctors) is named after my zodiacal sigh Cancer….WHY?It really offends me that my zodiacal sign shares a name with one of the most deadliest diseases known to mankind.

My father has pulmonary fibrosis. He is also suffering from dementia. Hospice has been called. Stories? Sugg?

I am wondering who else has experienced a situation with hospice care. I don’t think my mother is telling me the whole story as she does not want to worry me. I realize he is dying. Please, anyone let me know if you have experienced this type of disease and the life expectancy.

Hospice is the name given to a team of individuals that help to make decisions on end of life care. They facilitate everything from day to day care to pain management to chaplin services. Trust me they are a godsend to those of us who have been in the position of losing a parent or other loved one and are finding the stress a bit to much to bear. All the while trying to put on a brave face to our families, friend, neighbors and co-workers. The best thing about the hospice team is that they are not just there for your father but they are there for your mother as well. And as the time for your father to die comes near the team will be sure to offer her as much or as little assistance as she requires. Just make sure that your mother knows that she also has you to look out for her and that she knows she can count on you. Pain management is going to of paramount importance at the end and with a disease like dementia your father will stop eating and drinking. This is a normal progression of the disease and something that you should look for. My best suggestion is to make sure that both your mother and father are well cared for during the coming week ahead. Try and get your mother to eat and rest on a regular basis. (As you should as well) Preplan as much of the funeral with her if she’ll let you. Get you mom to take a walk everyday if she’s able to do so. Once your dad stops his oral intake the end is usually less than about a week away. However, with dad’s history of lung disease I doubt it will be that long. I’m a so very sorry that you are going through this, it’s never easy. Please feel free to e-mail me if you need someone to talk to.

It may be called medical biologist but I’m not sure. Please help!

There isn’t one field that studies potential cures for diseases. There are several areas of study that could find a cure for a given disease. Molecular biology, cell biology, virology, oncology, immunology are among many fields where one could work on cures. These are specialized areas of biology and medicine.

my father is 73yrs. old, he visit to the doctor for annual check up now the doctor found out ( ultrasound ) that his prostate has lymph nodes, now is there a possibility that this become a prostate cancer?

Human have many lymph nodes in our body, include in the area around prostate.
Lymph node enlargement can be early sign of cancer, but also can be sign of infection.
No one here can tell you if it is cancer or not.
Your father’s doctor will have to perform biopsy to diagnosed your father.

Me and my Motherinlaw have been lokking for this book Called “how to cure cancer” By a doctor from La Jolla CA I believe, I’m no sure, i just cant find it anywhere, i’ve tried amazon, B&N, book stores.. etc, its no where online either. The book basically talks aout all the things or diets that you can do or eat that somethimes doctors dont tell you just so you keep visiting them basically, Anyway if anyone has ever heard of it or knows where i can find it i would really appreciate it form the botton of my heart!… Please dont post stip things or say go to the library just to get two points, i will choose a bast answer so please! This means a lot to me! Thanks guys!

There are currently these books/dvds on KBDI.org, talks about The RaveDiet and others. you can go to KBDI.org see it, the Rave Diet is avail on Amazon. Seems interesting, but, buyer beware, there are always testamonials about curatives foods/herbs etc. While it is true, diets high in fatty foods/ processed/refined foods increase risks of all diseases/illnesses, not always curative by diet alone. Exericise, not smoking, only use hormones/BCP as long as you need to, etc. Some cancers do go into remission and people think they’ve been cured, then it comes raging back… others are beyond the 5 yr mark post treatments of chemo/radiation/surgery. Higher fiber diet/more veggies, less fat/meat/chicken/dairy supposedly are healthier for lower cholesterol levels, better for the GI tract/healthier for the heart, But, people still become ill, inspite of doing everything right. Why do babies/kids get cancer? some genetics/some environmental, kids, who haven’t even lived their lives? or some are born with it. too sad, devastating.

i have a printout from Arizona Daily Star about the outbreak of this disease and i wonder if this coming from mexican immigrients. the disease starts on the skin, triggering inflammation, boils or nasty abscesses that can take weeks of treatment to stop including surgery and hospitalization. but if it moves to the bloodstream, MERSA can cause bone infection, lung damaging pneumonia, organ damage, even fatal toxic shock syndrom. it says it has thousands of people in the hospital a day in all counties and even someplaces around the world what is this and why were’t people notified about this outbreak of “lethal bacteria infections” it’s being called the “Superbug” that eats flesh?

No MRSA arose partially from the overuse of antibiotics where the strains of staph bacteria no longer respond to normal antibitiotics. It has been around for a while and everyone has it in their body. It just depends if it manifests itself as an infection or not.

I called the DOL because after two experienced people were almost positive it was asbestos. Before I called we went through the proper chain of command we got in contact with the company who did the abatement and they told us they would clean it in the morning here I have been pretty much rolling around in it all day I am kinda curious if I have been exposed. Meanwhile the place we were working is already starting to clean it up the people were untrained janitors. So after a little debate I decided to call The department of Labor who after hearing what I had to say thought it was necessary for him to come and inspect the situation himself ( At Five o clock I am sure he was on his was home soon) So my Boss pretty much told us were were wrong to call them and we should have just let the company handling the abatement deal with it. Am I wrong???

If you went through the chain of command … what is the problem?

I think your boss would like to save the company some problems by protecting you from a hazardous substance .. but we all can’t have common sense …

Has anyone had any experience in a cancer treatment called Torisel for Renal Cell Carcinoma?

My dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma. He started a treatment this week. The treatment is call Torisel. I wonder if anyone has any experience in this drug. If it worked for your loved one and if there was any side effects and how long did it take to have the side effects.

I believe this is one of the newer mTOR targeted therapy drugs. It is very new. You would probably get more response and better information by going to an online support group with other patients who are using this drug. Good luck.

there are many. The most common is COPD. (Not all people with need oxygen though), another is pulmonary fibrosis
