If a person had a cancerous tumour in this area what kind of cancer would it be?
Question by With her head in the clouds: If a person had a cancerous tumour in this area what kind of cancer would it be?
I had a dream where I had one cancerous tumour in my pituitary gland and one lodged onto the side of my heart that was stopping my mungs from fully expanding. It was causing me shortness of breath. In the dream I had two lots of surgeries, both successful then I had chemo and radiation.
But my real questions is what kind of cancer would you call the tumour in my heart (the pretend tumour from the dream) would it be lung cancer because its close to the lungs or would it be like heart cancer or something because it’s attached to the heart? Is there even such thing as heart cancer or would it be called something else?
Also what are some of the after-effects of chemotherapy and radiation? With the chemo I’ve heard of general flu like symptoms and hearing loss, what else is there?

can a non cancerous calcified lung granuloma grow?
Question by : can a non cancerous calcified lung granuloma grow?
I have a spot on my lung and had a CT scan in 05 and they told me it was a granuloma. I am a worrier so I had it checked again a couple weeks ago and had another CT scan done. This time it shows it’s grown 1mm in 5 years. The radiologist did note that he still thinks it’s just a granuloma, and that they are using more up to date technology in the scans now and that may be why it looks as if it’s grown. I did speak with a specialist today who put my mind at ease about cancer, because I am getting it biopsied just in case it did grow. So, I’m worried that it’s cancer, and was wondering if these granuloma’s can grow, without being cancer.
Also, it’s calcified, which the doctor said is a good thing.
Thanks!

Answer by josh c
if its calcified, that simply means its hardened, like bone. but various types of tumors and granulomas can grow, they do not necessarily have to be cancer. The main difference between a malignant growth and a benign growth is: the malignant (cancerous) growth has the ability to spread the affected cells to other organs of the body, thus multiple tumors could show up. With a benign growth, it only gets bigger and invades the “personal space” of other organs. Try not to lose any sleep over it

Question by flamingo: Since Sen. Kennedy`s cancerous brain tumor was revealed, I then learned that his?
daughter Kara, once had inoperable lung cancer and has beaten the odds. Does anyone have any info on this, as to her age when stricken and what type of treatment she recieved. Or has this been kept private until now. Tragic that son, daughter and now the father is afflicted. One final point, money does seem to play a role in obtaining the best surgeons and treatment for cancer. Fees I`m sure my health insurance would not pay for.

Lot of things that $ $ $ can get you…for instance, what do you think would have happened to you if you were driving a car and ran off of a bridge, and the passenger in the car with you drowned. And not only that, but you left the scene and did not report the incident to the police? Any regular citizen would still be in jail to this day. Kennedy pled guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and received a 2 month suspended sentence.
I have no pity for him.

14 year old cat with lung fibroids, possibly cancerous?
Question by *TKD*girl♥: 14 year old cat with lung fibroids, possibly cancerous?
My 14 year old cat lost over two pounds in less than two months. I took him to the vet, who did a complete blood panel (everything was normal), and took chest x-rays, because I mentioned that he had been coughing. The lung x-rays showed fibroids in his lungs, but my vet was reluctant to say it was definitely cancer.
He gave him antibiotics(in case the fibroids were secondary to an infection), and prednesone. Two weeks later I took him back to be x-rayed again, and his lungs looked the same. So, basically my vet told me he wasn’t sure what was going on, but as long as my cat was acting better (he was at that point), then I should keep giving him the prednesone.
Fast forward another week & he’s not doing better, and has started sneezing. His eyes aren’t watery, and his nose is not snotty except right after he sneezes.
Has anybody had a cat with similar symptoms? I just want to know what is wrong with my cat, and what, if anything, I can do to help him. I understand that he’s old, and maybe it’s almost his time to go. If that’s the case, then I’ll let him go because I don’t want him to suffer. I just don’t know what to do. I’ve tried searching the internet, but there’s vague information about feline lung cancer, and I don’t know what else it could be. Thanks.
Best answer:
Answer by You asked for it
i honestly don’t know what to tell you, i’ve never experienced it.
but Prednisone DOES cause bad side effects. My dog took it (she has cancer) and she has gained around 20lbs in 3 months (no i am not feeding her that much) and it caused an infection in her eyes
ADD: Just be sure that your cat is not on the Prednisone for a long period of time. If you notice anything that’s not normal (behavior has changed, vomiting, eyes look swollen, etc.) take him to the vet asap.

What are the options for my aunt with a cancerous tumor around her heart?
Question by cbbeangirl: What are the options for my aunt with a cancerous tumor around her heart?
My aunt was recently diagnosed with cancer. The treatment she received in Puerto Rico indicated that after the biopsy that inside her didn’t look too good. Their tests did not reveal cancer due to the tumor around her heart and lung area. When she flew out to Fort Lauderdale they indicated it was cancer. She started with not feeling to well, chest pains, vomitting, and pain and swollen shoulder. She received 2 radiation treatments and one dose of chemo. The tumor hasn’t shrunk. They were unable to give her any more chemo because her heart is slightly swollen. Her upper body is still a bit swollen her feet are less but they claim they can;t do much more? What could have caused this i knew she had thyroid problems before? What are the options for her. We continue to pray for a miracle!
She was diagnosed with angina sarcoma cancer.
Correction angiosarcoma

Answer by The Vulgar Existentialist
A good friend of mine had a heart attack and they gave him an electric heart. So, I can’t see why removing the tumor should be a problem.
Other than carrying a battery around all the time, it would eliminate chest pains, and she’d live longer.
The only downside is price, and carrying around a battery.

Lung Disease & Cancerous Tumors In Rats
Do not watch if you have a animal loving heart. A video on how my rattie got cancerous tumors and lung disease. Milly and myself both fort to save her life bless her, but it took it’s tole on her little body. At the end of the video, it says that her death day. I got it mixed up, but its 21.01.11. In all her operations, xrays, vet appointments, medication, i spend between £350-£500 trying to save her life. There is some cool videos of her running and swimming at the end. RIP Milly, 21.01.11. I will also make a part 2 of this video, what bad bits i left out. Eg How i had a bad vet gave up on her. She woke up when they went to put her to sleep. How i basically went up the vets 1-2 times a week to try and save her. And the state of her cage when i brought her home from her operation. There’s lots more, these are just a few examples. Just a word of advise – Never trust your vet, i did and look how this turned out….

How do chemotherapy drugs interact chemically with cancer cells to get rid of the cancerous cells?
Question by xixsarah19: How do chemotherapy drugs interact chemically with cancer cells to get rid of the cancerous cells?
I have to give a chemistry project tomorrow in class and I need to have a basic understanding of what goes on chemically between chemotherapy drugs and the cancerous cells. Like what element interacts with what and how the chemo drugs stop the cancer cells from replicating. If anyone even has a most basic chemical explanation as to what occurs I would really appreciate it.
Best answer:
Answer by april
Drugs that are effective in treating cancer interfere with the activity of cancer cells, either by going in directly to sabotage a specific phase of cell development or by sending confusing messages that cause the cells to do the wrong thing and thereby destroy themselves. Not all drugs are effective against all cancers, and the different groups of drugs act in different way.
Alkylating agents: Interfere with cell division and affect the cancer cells in all phases of their life cycle. They confuse the DNA by directly reacting with it.
Anti-metabolites: Interfere with the cell’s ability for normal metabolism; they either give the cells wrong information or block the formation of “building block” chemical reactions which the cell needs to replicate itself.
These are phase-specific drugs–they only work in one phase of the cell’s life cycle.
Vinca Alkaloids (plant alkaloids). Naturally occurring chemicals that stop cell division in a specific phase.
Antibiotics: Also made from natural substances that interfere with cell division; they can affect cancer cells in all phases of their life cycle and interfere with DNA synthesis.
Hormones: Substances that occur naturally in the human body; they give messages that either encourage or stop growth or activities in certain cells or organs. There are two types of hormones: sex, or steroid, hormones, and gluco-corticoid hormones. The sex hormones act on a very specific group of tissues and are useful in treating cancers of the prostate, breast, uterus, and kidney. Gluco-corticoid hormones act on a wide variety of tissues and organs and have been used to treat Hodgkin’s disease; lymphocytic and histolytic lymphoma; lymphoblastic, lymphocytic, and acute myelogenous leukemia; and multiple myeloma.

Moles and Skin Cancer – How to Identify Cancerous Skin Moles in 4 Easy Steps
Moles and Skin Cancer – How to Identify Cancerous Skin Moles in 4 Easy Steps
Article by Mary Ellery
Moles made an appearance in the news recently. Hollywood celebrity Ewan McGregor, star of the blockbuster Star Wars episodes 1-3., underwent the removal of a cancerous mole. The blemish was below his right eye.
Cancerous moles are the result of heredity or the environment. They can be caused by excessive exposure to sunlight. It is advisable to wear sunscreen with SPF of 15 when the sunlight is strong to minimize the risk. Ewan McGregor recently spent several weeks traveling by bike from Scotland to South Africa, and said, “You have to be careful if you’re pale-skinned and spend time in the sun”. He added, “It was great fun having skin cancer, it was great. I really enjoyed it”.
Detecting problematic moles is as easy as ‘A-B-C-D’:
A is “asymmetry”, where the two halves of a mole have a different shape or color.B is “border”, manifesting a problem when the edge of a mole goes from round to blurred or irregular.C is “color”, when there are brown, black or even pink spots.D is “diameter”, which is cause for concern if a mole is more than 6mm wide or if it becomes larger. Most moles stay the same size.
Medical attention should also be sought if the mole is painful, itchy, bleeding, inflamed or crusty. Moles having three or more differing shades of brown or black are especially likely to be melanoma. Immediate action is required if there is an enlarged lymph gland near the mole.
If a cancerous mole appears, there is a 14 percent chance it will be on the head or neck of a female and 23 percent chance for men. The chance of the mole being on the trunk are 13 percent for females and 35 percent for males. The chance of it occurring on the arm is 17 percent for both genders. The chance of occurrence on the leg is 56 percent for females and 25 percent for males.
Moles are usually flat, so if a mole is raised or gets irritated, this is cause for concern. Irritation can ensue from friction against clothes or shaving.
While rare, melanoma can occur in the eye. If the growth is inside the eye, a person will see a black spot on the iris. If the growth is inside, the person may experience blurred vision. Diagnosis is most likely to take place during a routine eye examination.
New moles are unlikely to be a problem in people under 40. If your moles are growing hair or are becoming lighter, then there is no cause for worry. Moles appear during the first 20 years of a person’s life, when they are tiny and brown, and grow larger until the age of 50 when they will fade or fall off. Pregnant women have a high tendency to develop moles.
A person should check their moles while bathing, including hidden areas like between the fingers and toes, the groin and the rear of the knee. If the location of moles is remembered, new moles can be identified.
Modern research has brought genuine progress to the treatment of skin cancer. People survive longer now and have better quality of life. Knowledge of moles and skin cancers is steadily increasing and new ways are constantly being found to prevent, detect and treat skin cancer.

Are small lung nodules cancerous?
Question by Lynette: Are small lung nodules cancerous?
A family friend of mine is 38 years old and had a routine chest X-ray peformed last week (she has scoliosis). The doctor’s office called yesterday saying that they found a small nodule on her left lung (approximately 5-7 mm in size). She is scheduled to have a CT scan performed next week. Should she be worried that the nodule is cancerous? Ever since she got the news, she has been extremely depressed and is sure that she has cancer. She is a smoker. However, I have read several articles saying that even in smokers, small nodules are almost always benign. It is the larger, 25mm ones that are of greater concern. My question is, how worried should we all be about this being cancerous, how will the doctor’s handle things from here, and is there anything that I can do to make her feel better about this????
Best answer:
Answer by Spreedog
You did a good job in your research/reading.
Share that information with your friend.
5-7 mm lesions are usually not a malignancy.
This could even be a normal blood vessel seen on end by the chest x-ray.
Only ~ 3% of people who develop lung cancers are under age 45.
25 mm (which is a diameter of about one inch) is a better time to worry
- – - though usually not at age 38.
