Can Smoking marijuana or being over wieght cause COPD?
Question by Candace :]: Can Smoking marijuana or being over wieght cause COPD?
Or does only smoking cigarrettes, pollution, dust, or chemicals the only thing that causes it?
Best answer:
Answer by kittyfreek
Any kind of smoking will make COPD worse. Marijuana when smoked – contrary to many (pot smokers’) beliefs irritates and damages the lungs just as much as cigarettes or sticking your head over a bonfire.
Being overweight puts more pressure on the lungs too because, to put it simply, excess body fat (both internal and external) can compress the lungs and there is the added exertion of carrying extra weight – it’s hard enough to get oxygen around the body as it is. (Imagine having to carry an extra bag of shopping for example.)

Aside from smoking, irritants and pollution what are the diseases that can cause COPD?
Question by kiamboy: Aside from smoking, irritants and pollution what are the diseases that can cause COPD?
Is tuberculosis can cause COPD?
Best answer:
Answer by goodguy_46947
Most cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) develop after repeatedly breathing in fumes and other things that irritate and damage the lungs and airways. Cigarette smoking is the most common irritant that causes COPD. Pipe, cigar, and other types of tobacco smoke can also cause COPD, especially if the smoke is inhaled. Breathing in other fumes and dusts over a long period of time may also cause COPD. The lungs and airways are highly sensitive to these irritants. They cause the airways to become inflamed and narrowed, and they destroy the elastic fibers that allow the lung to stretch and then return to its resting shape. This makes breathing air in and out of the lungs more difficult.
Other things that may irritate the lungs and contribute to COPD include:
Working around certain kinds of chemicals and breathing in the fumes for many years
Working in a dusty area over many years
Heavy exposure to air pollution
Being around secondhand smoke (smoke in the air from other people smoking cigarettes) also plays a role in an individual developing COPD.
Tuberculosis ? I don’t think so.

i have been exposed to asbestos. how much asbestos is enough to cause health problems?
Question by anonymous: i have been exposed to asbestos. how much asbestos is enough to cause health problems?
i started removing the popcorn ceiling in my garage and about 1/4 of the way through i realized the ceiling could have asbestos in it. i removed the ceiling by scraping it so there was a lot of dust inhaled.
Best answer:
Answer by gokart121
Well, that’s debatable, lawyers make hay while the sun shines out of asbestos claims, but at the end of the day, you’re gonna die of something anyway. A better question would be if you were knowingly exposed to it, or how much of it, for how long, are you suffering from it, or were you just in the same zip code as some asbestos, and trying to ride a health claim? Hmmm….

Would using a gas mask with a filter cause cancer?
Question by : Would using a gas mask with a filter cause cancer?
I bought this soviet gas mask, and it came with a filter (obviously) but i was wondering if using the gas mask (as a novelty item, not in any hazardous environment) could cause any sort of lung cancer or disease over extended use.
Best answer:
Answer by Adam
Depends on how old it is. If the filter is really old, it should be inert by now. Honestly, I’d just wash it out good, maybe even remove all the components from the filter and just have the steel or plastic shell.

Q&A: does indigestion cause lung infection?
Question by fugitive999: does indigestion cause lung infection?
when a person have lung infection is it okay if he eats oily and fatty foods.bcoz i heard that undigested foods in stomach can cause lung infection.
Best answer:
Answer by Anna E
the only way indigestion could cause lung problems is if you had acid reflux and aspirated stomach contents into your lungs, which can happen. But other than that, you can eat about anything you want. I have heard of doctors telling patients with respiratory problems to avoid dairy products.

Q&A: Does smoking CAUSE cancer?
Question by My name is not bruce: Does smoking CAUSE cancer?
I learned in highschool a while back that smoking does not “cause” cancer, just increases your risk. This is why some people never smoke and get lung cancer and others can smoke their whole life and not get it…….genetic predisposition to cancer.
Took many bio-chem courses in college, but this wasn’t ever mentioned…..(talked about cancer cells, but nothing specific like smoking and lung cancer).
I’d have to say 100% of people i talk to say it does “cause” cancer and when i say it doesn’t….they say i’m wrong…..and they say they learned that ……
Just trying to figure out if there are new studies out or something that changed my previous understanding.

The 1000s of carcinogens in the smoke can cause cancer yes. Chances are that if you smoke you will get cancer.
When you inhale small particles they enter your bloodstream through your lungs and can cause mutation.
You are right, there is a chance you can smoke and not get cancer. There is also an chance you can crash your plane and live… are you really going to try to find out 1st person.
Let me know how it works out. Anyone else want to repeat what I already said?

Q&A: Is this likely to cause me major health problems in later life? (i.e. cancer, copd, emphysema)?
Question by will s: Is this likely to cause me major health problems in later life? (i.e. cancer, copd, emphysema)?
I’m 16, and i’ve smoked on average about 8 a day for about 8 months. I am now quitting, because I’m a football referee, and I only started smoking when I dislocated my knee, so I couldn’t referee. My knee is better now, and I will be back refereeing in a few weeks
My great granddad died from lung cancer in his 50s, but he smoked 20 a day for years, and health wise, I tend to take after the other side of my family. My granny on his side of the family (his daughter) smoked 20 a day for 40 years (though she never inhaled) and is now nearly 80 and still fit as a fiddle.
There’s a slight history of cancer in the female side of the other side of my family – both my granny and my aunt have had breast cancer.
I just want to know, is this 8 months of idiocy likely to come back and haunt me?
Best answer:
Answer by Ricky D
It might, but don’t let the thought ruin your happiness. I smoked for 30 years and don’t have lung cancer. I have heart attacks, unexplained lumps in many other places, ED that is improving now that I’m off the weed, jaundice, partial amnesia, type 2 diabetes, kidney and gall stones, rapidly deteriorating hearing and vision, impossible bad breath, occasional incontinence in both openings that is getting worse, and gout.

Does spit tobacco usage cause heart disease or lung problems?
Question by Mike Hunt: Does spit tobacco usage cause heart disease or lung problems?
i quit ” dipping” 5 weeks ago and my wallet and oral hygene are much better off. However I have a sinking feeling that 13 years of it have hurt my heart and lungs. Anyone know if this is a possibility. If so should I get an xray
Best answer:
Answer by davidcarllee
Nicotine will hurt your heart no matter how you intake it. Some will say that the direct insert to your bloodstream will be worse than puffing it up into smoke before inhaling it. It’s not just about smoke as much as it’s about nicotine into the bloodstream. I’m not sure. But either way, quitting has dramatic influences on heart health, almost overnight.

Q&A: did agent orange cause cancer?
Question by : did agent orange cause cancer?
I was wondering if agent orange cause cancer? My grandpa is a Vietnam war survivor and was not near the jungle in the vietnam war but i heard that agent orange spread to cities like Da Nang which is where my grandpa was living at the time till the war ended. He was diagnosed with lung cancer last year and was healthy until then and no medical problems or illness.
my grandpa didn’t smoke or drink
Best answer:
Answer by Bobby
Did he ever smoke? That is a more likely cause. Agent Orange is said to have caused cancer, it is true. I don’t know if it drifted into Da Nang, and that would be very hard to prove.
