My 13yr old cat has had fluid in the lungs twice now and may be diagnosed with cancer. Has anyone had chemotherapy for their cat performed, if so how much did it cost and was it effective?
Thanks for the response, my cat has tested negative for both lukemia and FIV and they highly believe it is cancer. I have heard of the Wisconsin-Madison protocol (chemotherapy) working. I just want to know a price it case that day comes along. I will ask my vet but I didnt want to wait till Monday to find out…

Answer by Andi
Fluid in the chest of a cat is serious some even die drowning from the inside out. Usually though that isnt cancer its luekemia or aids.
Treatments if you have been told it is indeed cancer cost alot of money and your better off calling around.
As for helping the cat it more just buys your cat a few months more in time to live. They can drain the fluid from the chest but I am sorry to say the only way to help your friend is to end her suffering.

Q&A: Could having chemotherapy affected my testosterone and create depression?
Question by Chris C: Could having chemotherapy affected my testosterone and create depression?
I had chemotherapy when I was 12 years old. At that time I was not sexually mature and was not able to store semen. I am 20 years old now and my sex drive is low to non-existent. I had blood work done already but my results still have not come back. I am also meeting with an oncologist later this week and want to know if I should mention this. What about the depression?
Do you need to continue hormone treatments for the rest of your life, or just until you are at normal levels?
Best answer:
Answer by Tiny
Definitely mention this. I’m sure your parents were informed of this but maybe they felt it inappropriate for you considering your age. You can get male hormone boosters and therapy should yours have been weakened from the chemo. This low testosterone could easily explain your depression. You should ask for a hormone analysis and panel and get your levels brought up if needed. You might just feel like a whole new person. ALSO: your thyroid may also be low so ask to get this tested as well.
Best Wishes.

Prior to treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation, how were cancer patients treated?
Question by chrstnwrtr: Prior to treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation, how were cancer patients treated?
This got me thinking. After hearing a rather gross story from the Middle Ages that dealt with a nun treating a cancerous tumor, how were cancer patients treated prior to the advent of chemotherapy and radiation?
And here’s an additional question: why does chemotherapy cause hair loss and nausea in patients?
Best answer:
Answer by Diane A
Unless a tumor could be cut out, most cancers resulted in death; although there were probably plenty of off-the -wall treatments. In the early stages of Xray therapy (think 1900s)–it was considered to be effective if the skin burned! Surgery for growths goes as far back as the Egyptians & Greeks (they used various drugs & chemicals for anesthesia).
Many Chemo drugs work by targeting the cell cycle in rapidly dividing cells (which is simply what a tumor is–very rapidly dividing & growing cells); the hair follicle is one such rapidly normal dividing cell line (your hair grows, right?) so that’s why they get “killed” off & hair falls out. So too the cells lining the GI tract are affected & you have many of the GI side effects associated with chem. That and many many drugs cause nausea in general.

Ask Dr. Smith: Chemotherapy at Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care

More than 50000 Americans are diagnosed with cancers of the head and neck each year. Symptoms usually appear only in the advanced stages. However, with an early diagnosis, the prognosis can be excellent. Nowhere is there a more advanced or skilled approach to diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancers than at the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Cancer Care. Q&A: Did jews/israeli really invent chemotherapy?
Question by : Did jews/israeli really invent chemotherapy?
During WWII gentile scientist Dr. Stewart Francis Alexander found mustard gas having certain properties on affected soldiers. With research he was able to identify the process that cells go through when the gas is introduced into the body
Several years later the United States government hired two Jewish scientist to research these finding by the name of Gilman and Goodman(why they hired Jews I do not know because there are brilliant white scientists ). I researched this because I have a history of cancer in my family so this was troubling. Also, this may prove many of the things that I’ve been thinking and saying.
So being that I’m an uneducated and an idiot please educate me:

@Shay
my point is that Jews are taking credit for everything despite the fact that they are only building upon the ideas created by others. Really, there is it overemphasized their contributions to society and inventions. Einstein was guilty of this too. A question I posed earlier was answered with a long list of Jewish inventions even though there were many who contributed greatly. I’ve heard Jews claim Austrian composer was Jewish because its possible he had a Jewish grandfather. Even if that’s true how does 1/4 make you Jewish. Oh well, this is common of minorities who feel inferior and need anything to show their superiority. The first Answerer was right about Germans.
By the way, This guy Favil Also claimed street
lights to have been invented by Jews. I’ve seen blacks claim to have invented that as well.
Was Eli Lilly even Jewish? By the way, stop searching the internet before you answer.

Israel? No! Germany is the place where all good things get invented.
Almost all things we use today are here because of germany.

How an oncologiest makes decisions about which chemotherapy to follow ? There are new drugs coming up and results of trials. They stay informed by reading mecical jurnals..or how do they make their decisions?
Thank you
Best answer:
Answer by Dinah
there are standard therapies by type of cancer (what tissue or organ it came from)
consulting with colleagues
reading medical journals
going to continuous education
reading materials the manufacturers provide them with.
or
educated guess (sometimes this is required. about 3% cases of cancer are “unknown primary” so you don’t know what tissue it came from. Therefore you can’t rely on the published literature

What are the benefits/detriments of receiving chemotherapy?
Question by : What are the benefits/detriments of receiving chemotherapy?
A friend of mine was diagnose with a liver tumor, which could possibly have been there for 5 to 10 years.
He shows no symptoms of cancer for that time, so is it better to leave the tumor alone (since it hasnt caused harm) or go for chemotherapy?
Pros and cons please!
Best answer:
Answer by Shano
The pros of chemotherapy is that you lose weight the cons of it is you get weaker, it makes you age ( you look older), and your hair can thin or fall out but if he wasn’t diagnosed with liver cancer and his doctor said so it probably needs to keep an eye on it that’s all.

What is the risk to cancer (oncology) nurses from working with dangerous chemotherapy drugs?
Question by : What is the risk to cancer (oncology) nurses from working with dangerous chemotherapy drugs?
What is the risk to nurses working in the cancer field (oncology) due to their proximity to cancer causing drugs and radiation and chemotherapy? I am hearing stories of many oncology nurses loosing their hair?
Best answer:
Answer by Don’t Call Me Crazy
Cancer causing drugs? I’m sure you mean drugs used in treating cancer. You can check the Material Safety Data Sheet (they should be on file in human resources with the occupational safety representative) to determine the risk of exposure to those chemicals or chemical compounds. As far as exposure to radiation? There is a test to determine whether you have been exposed to radiation and to what degree, though I doubt it would be necessary as long as established procedures are followed at the hospital.
