Why did I have a fluttering feeling in my heart and minor chest pain?
Question by : Why did I have a fluttering feeling in my heart and minor chest pain?
I’m a healthy female in my 30′s. I eat well and work out a lot. I don’t smoke or drink. I had some strange symptoms about two months ago. One night I was sitting calmly and watching television. There were a lot of flickering lights on the screen for a short time. While I saw the flickering lights, I could feel my heart fluttering very intensely. That was the first time it ever happened. A couple of days later I started feeling minor heart pain. It would come and go, but it lasted for about a week. I went to the doctor a while after it happened to make sure everything was okay, and as I suspected, they found nothing wrong. I’m not one to panic about little ailments, so that’s why I didn’t go to the ER. I do however have mitro valve prolapse which never bothered me before. Also I have been having some moments of difficulty breathing to the point where my arms and legs start tingling. It can go on and off for up to an hour. I feel like there is something stuck in my thought and I feel like I’m suffocating. I also feel like my lungs are not filling up completely even when I try to breathe very deeply. This has been going on for several months. It is not anxiety. It happens when I am relaxed or resting. I was tested for asthma and I don’t have it. All these symptoms are fairly new to me. I have been very fit and healthy my entire life. I’m sorry this is so long. I wanted to give accurate details.
Can anyone tell me why flickering lights caused the heart fluttering? Also do you know what could have caused the chest pain? Do you have any idea what is causing the breathing difficulty? I think the trouble breathing could be related to the heart.

Interesting, I am sort of a person like you too, but stress causes the difference in heart and chest and breath difficulties. I had an EKG, and guess we’ll both have to get more information and see another doctor to understand where we are on this issue!!!!!! Lots of scary stuff on the Internet on heart

Q&A: what is a ct chest scan with contrast mean? and what could they be looking for?
Question by J N003: what is a ct chest scan with contrast mean? and what could they be looking for?
Help??
My mum went for a 2nd chest x-ray this week as they said the first x-ray showed a slight shadowing on her lung. Today we have a received a letter stating she needs a ct chest scan with contrast? Im very very scared as the letter was dated the same day as her actual 2nd scan, so there seems to be some urgency there? Its booked for 9days time. Im scared as well as i only lost my dad to bladder cancer 3months ago and my mum is still suffering badly from this event too, i haven’t got the heart to tell her about this letter as im sure the panic and worry of it would kill her! She’s in her 80′s with alot of other medical complications too, i’m so worried, does it mean she could have the ‘c’ word? Sh’s been suffering with a cough since my father died that will not go away and also she is short of breath, sometimes her cough can be quite mucusy? but it mainly feels like an irratated tickle? She doesn’t have COPD or pneumonia? well, im not sure now to be honest, im just hoping and praying it’s not cancer!

Answer by formerly_bob
A shadow on a chest x-ray, cough that lasts more than 4 weeks, and shortness of breath could be caused by pneumonia. The shadow could also be some type of cancer or other lung problem. You can just tell your grandmother that the doc needs to get a more detailed x-ray of the lung to figure out if she has a lung infection or some other type of problem.

chest x-ray question….?
Question by : chest x-ray question….?
i’m 20 years old. smoked for around 5 years. one morning i couldn’t breath so i went to the ER. They did an x-ray of my chest and told me everything came back normal on the x-ray. They told me this 15 minutes after the x-ray was completed. Does this also rule out lung cancer or any other lung related disease? I’m trying to quit smoking asap. Am I ok now?
Best answer:
Answer by formerly_bob
It doesn’t rule out lung cancer completely, but it makes the odds of lung cancer extremely low. A clear x-ray rules out lung cancer or any other lung problem that is advanced enough to show up on an x-ray – things like scarring, tumors, or fluid accumulation. An x-ray does not provide any information related to the possibility of asthma, and x-rays do not show cellular damage.

Question by Joseph: Chest pains, hard time breathing and allot of other stuff. ?
Ok so im 13 i’ve had some chest pains like everyday for about 6 months maybe, i didn’t really care cause it dident hurt so much.
The other day i had it all day long and it hurt really bad, so i told my mom too call the doctor she did and they said to mix some pills togeather and swallow it so i did that. My mom went to bed and the chest pains still dident go away. So these means its not the outside hurting its the inside. Does anyone have a clue to what this is?

Ask your mother to make a doctor’s appointment for you.
With asthma, chest pain is generally not as frequent as yours is.
This sounds either like acid reflux disease (chronic heartburn) or a heart problem.

Diagnosed with anxiety, is that really what’s causing my chest pain?
Question by Mantis: Diagnosed with anxiety, is that really what’s causing my chest pain?
I went to the doctor a few times this past month for a number of ailments, the doctor said I have anxiety. I had back pain for 2 months now, as I pulled my Rhomboid at the gym, but also neck and chest pains! The pain isn’t that I feel short of breath, but my heart starts to race (even when I’m calm!) and my chest starts to hurt. Not one side, but both sides. It feels like my lungs.
I’m opening a business also, I’m stressed about that. I’m also worried about a lot of things, but generally I’m a calm person. Stress has never been a factor in my life! I deal with stress very well, or at least maybe I thought I did.
Is chest pain really an anxiety symptom like the doctor said? He seemed to be not worried at all about it!
Thanks in advance

Answer by psu176
Well they are symptoms of anxiety. Try to monitor your feelings/mood/thoughts when you have an attack. If they happen when your stressed or worked up then it probably is anxieties. Now, if you do not feel that that is really the problem then get a second opinion.

can ronchi be ascultated in normal chest, i mean having no respiratory disease?
Question by dranil2000: can ronchi be ascultated in normal chest, i mean having no respiratory disease?
Best answer:
Answer by Menthoids
Not in a normal chest …..
Rhonchi is the “coarse rattling sound somewhat like snoring, usually caused by secretion in bronchial airways”. Rhonchi is the plural form of the singular word “rhonchus”.
It is an abnormal or adventitious sound heard when listening to the chest as the person breathes. Wheezing noises are heard during inspiration, expiration or both. They are present when an airway is partially obstructed owing to secretions, mucosal swelling, or tumor tissue pressing on the passage. The sounds are gurgling noises heard on auscultation of the lungs with a stethoscope during inhalation or exhalation. The sounds are caused by the flow of air through thick mucous secretions in the larger air passages such as the bronchioles but can also be associated with smaller structures such as the alveoli.
Rhonchi can be heard in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and acute or severe bronchitis. COPD is an all inclusive syndrome that stems from the reduction of surface area associated with emphysema and the production of mucous secretions, bronchospasm and inflammation associated with bronchitis.

Pleural Effusion Symptoms and Signs
The most common symptom of pleural effusion is shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. As the effusion grows larger the more difficult it is for the person to breathe.
Chest pain is also a symptom of pleural effusion and occurs because the pleural lining of the lung is irritated. The pain is usually described as a sharp pain, worsening with a deep breath. As the pleural effusion increases in size, the pain also may increase.

Your heart is fine. They found a non calcified nodule in upper lobe which they will check again in a year. The doctor does not think this is anything serious but to be on the safe side he will check it again in a year to see if there have been any changes. Relax………you are ok!

The dr. wants me to get it checked out right away. I am freaking out! This is the third time within the last 4 months that I have been told I need to get checked for cancer(everything so far has come back begnin) what are the chances that it could be cancer?
Best answer:
Answer by gracelyn
There are differnt things that can cause lung nodules, but cancer is pretty high up. What is your history? Do you smoke, is there a family history? What were the other sites that you had to have checked out? Are you exposed to things like chemicals or (of all things) straw or hay (carry fungus).
There is no way to tell until the tests are done.
Check the link below, too, maybe helpful.
Good luck. Hope this one is benign, too.

Well I’m a smoker, and I’m afraid I might have lung cancer. Unfortunately, I’m only 17, so the only way I know how to is to get my parents to take me to a walk in clinic. Is there any other way I can get one without getting my parents involved?
Both of my parents are smokers so I have been exposed to second hand smoke for quite some time.

Pls explain this chest xray result about fibrosis?
Question by : Pls explain this chest xray result about fibrosis?
There are linear and reticulohazy densities at the right upper lung field. Linear density is also noted at the right lung base. The heart is not enlarged. The trachea is in the midline. Both hemidiaphragms are distinct. The osseous thoracic cage has no bony abnormality.
CONCLUSION:
1. Chronic inflammatory process, right upper lung field. suggest interval follow-up.
2. Fibrosis. right lung base.
What does those mean? What should I do? Thank you very much.
Conclusion:
Best answer:
Answer by Dave
The term “linear” simply means streaks. Can’t say whether those “streaks are located in the lungs or between the lungs (in the pleural spaces between the lobes). The “reticulohazy” just means that there is some kind of macrophagic activity, the body’s “cleanup crew”, your immune system, has detected something in those areas that it’s trying to get rid of. It sends white blood cells to the affected area and that’s what is detected by the x ray as “hazy” because it has no definable borders except that it’s in “streaks.
At this point it’s hard to say what it’s reacting to. That’s why the Radiologist suggested follow up x rays to see of it’s getting any larger or whether it will go away by itself.
Sorry to be kind of vague but without knowing a lot more about you and your history I wouldn’t even like to guess.
Let your doctor be your guide as to what he/she finds.
Don’t worry until there is something to worry about. Let your docs do their job.
Sorry, forgot to mention the “fibrosis”. Fibrosis is scar tissue left over from the actions of your immune system’s response to an active danger to you. It is a general term and does not usually leave a “signpost” as to what that “danger” was. Your doctor will want to know what it was and what he/she can do about it happening again.

Chest CT scan question please help!!?
Question by Bags: Chest CT scan question please help!!?
2 years ago I had some breathing difficulties and my Dr. suggesting I undergo testing for asthma related issues. Since I had a slight heaviness and pain when I would take a deep breath it was recommended to have a CT scan. Well they had found a “nodule” 1-2 mm in width and 5 mm in length consistent with a scar. Upon finding that they did many tests to make sure it was not cancerous. They recommended to have a CT scan done every year to make sure it does not change or get bigger. Well 2 years later this nodule has not changed which is great! However it is dicovered that I have a “small amount of soft tissue in the anterior mediastinum probably representing residual thymic tissue. “A very small thymoma is not excludable.” 6-month follow up scan may be appropriate. ” This lesion measures about 1.8×1.4 cm. Any Dr’s out there have any ideas….of course I followed up with my Pulmonary DR. but I just wanted some additional help. Thanks I am very frustrated and angry about this.
Best answer:
Answer by lcoil79
You don’t say how old you are. The thymus gland is present in children and is integral in forming the immune system when we are young. As our immune systems mature, the thymus gland is absorbed by the body and will usually disappear, however some adults will retain a small amount of this tissue. The 6 month follow-up is going to be along the same lines as for your nodule, just to make sure it doesn’t get larger. Because of the location of the thymus, surrounded by very important large arteries, most doctors are unwilling to biopsy it without definite need to do so. Hope this helps.

Does my dog have cancer based on a chest xray?
Question by : Does my dog have cancer based on a chest xray?
This past wednesday my 11 year old dog had what we think was a seizure. After that he was very weak and we took him to the vet. He has been breathing very heavy since this all happened. His blood work showed elevated kidney and liver levels as well as a few other abnormal findings.
I took him to another vet today and he first thought my dog was in renal failure and was going to put him on a special diet. He also said its possible that he has a brain tumor and thats what caused the seizure. Then he decided just to check if there was any reason his breathing may have changed so he did an xray.
The xray showed fluid in his chest cavity it was impossible to see his heart and most of his lung. Because of this he said my dog has terminal cancer without any further testing. He estimates that he has 4 to 6 weeks to live.
I was just wondering if anyone has some other thoughts or if it is cancer what I can do for him. I’m just at a loss and I would love further input
Until he saw the chest xray he didn’t seem overly concerned since he is 11. I think he said that there could be a mass blocking the view of his heart but theres definitely fluid.
Best answer:
Answer by BYB’s (BYBs) Have Gigantic Hunts
If you don’t believe the vet, then get a second opinion from a veterinary oncologist.
If the dog’s liver & kidneys are shutting down, the dog is having seizures, and his lungs are filled with fluid, the dog is very very sick.
I don’t know what the vet saw on the x-ray. Call the vet and get a clarification. Ask him if he saw a mass and ask him what’s led him to this diagnosis.
I’m very sorry about this news and I do understand your confusion. Unfortunately, there just isn’t much we can offer as far as diagnosing the dog for you. If it is, in fact, terminal cancer, then I’m very sorry.
+ If there’s a mass blocking the view of the heart, and in his experience this is indicative of lung cancer, then your next step would be to consult a specialist (oncologist) to confirm diagnosis and to give you a prognosis.
Because of the dog’s age and current condition, if it is lung cancer, surgery may not be possible, even if the tumor is operable. The dog has to be fairly stable first and has to be a good candidate.
They may be able to make puppy more comfortable by either draining the fluid in his chest or getting him on meds to help control that fluid, making his breathing less laboured. They could also give the dog an in-office IV with some nutrients in it to help pep him up a bit. But if it’s end stage lung cancer, then all these things will just ease his pain in his final days. You will need to start making some end of life decisions for puppy and your vet can help you make those and help you plan.
Again, I am very sorry for this news. My heart goes out to you.

Q&A: Chest X Ray, Density?
Question by Leah V: Chest X Ray, Density?
I had a chest xray due to pneumonia three weeks ago. The pneumonia was successfully treated, but during my follow up appointment, I was told I would need a CT scan. The Dr. who read my chest xray noted a “prominent nodular density” at the right infrahilar area. He said that it may be “pulmonary aretery on end” (???), but that “nodule cannot be excluded”.
I am a 31 year old female, smoker, no symptoms of lung cancer, etc., but still worried. My Dr. was reassuring, but did tell me to quit the cigs. I know!!!
If there is anyone who has had a similar experience or anyone with a medical background, I would love some input.
