We had the same problem with our twins. The best thing to do is to get some of those air purifiers and a Dyson vacuum cleaner. I know they are expensive but they help tremedously. As for the air purifiers get the ones with the hepa filter and change it every 6 months. vacuum everyday and change your a/c filter 2x a month. make sure you get the Filtrete ones they work the best for getting out allergens out of the air. On the issue of the Dyson they have several kinds we got the purple one it litterally will suck a golf ball through a garden hose you will be amazed what comes out of your carpet. Also don’t use the carpet powder on your carpet if you need anything else feel free to email me

If she was your 17 y/o daughter, what would you do… what COULD you do?
Question by Been There: If she was your 17 y/o daughter, what would you do… what COULD you do?
Last night I got a medical update from someone about their daughter, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma:
“The PET scan showed cancer in her lungs, lymph nodes, around her spleen, by her femur and near her groin. The cancer is aggressive and we are all in this together hoping the the six months of chemo and 1 month of radiation will take care of this.”
This family lives in another state. A PET scan costs around $ 2,000 where I live. Heaven knows what the total cost of her treatment will be. The family has insurance through her father’s work – he works for a very large, national company.
Seriously, think about YOUR circumstances (if you have insurance, what would it cover; what’s the max, what happens when she turns 18?). What could you do if she was your daughter? What would you be willing to do?
***I know nothing about Obama-care and I am not giving my opinion here, except to say that I doubt medical research would be significantly hindered if there was no incentive of large profits. Company scientists, bean counters – and their families/friends – are all affected by disease. People reading a [blood/tissue] slide or an X-ray don’t do it to see dollars signs.
@Betty – you didn’t answer the question: What could/would you do if she was your daughter?
For someone I ‘knew’ with non-Hodgkin’s, it took more than 3 months of paper-work and many, many phone calls before she was approved for a state-funded PET scan. Her teeth were falling out while she waited. And she still had to fight the Feds (SSI) to prove she was disabled. She was 34.
Re the 17 y/o daughter and insurance – she’s a high school senior, and in her condition, being a college student seems out of the question.
@ mamadixie – FANTASTIC!! Give him a hug for me.
(pssst… I’m not giving anyone ‘thumbs down’)

We didnt use masks or ANY protection!! We had No idea about asbestos!! I also had other children in the house when we were doing this… are we poisened with asbestos!!!!
Best answer:
Answer by raina_vissora
1) Asbestos does not “poison” you. It leaves particulate matter in you lungs that can eventually cause lung cancer.
2) Asbestos is used as insulation above the ceiling (and between walls), not as part of the ceiling itself. Unless you put a big hole in the ceiling, you’re fine.
3) Wear a mask any time you’re sending any kind of dust flying everywhere… it’s not healthy to inhale that, either.

How do I convince my daughter to go back to school after having 2 severe illnesses?
Question by Sugar: How do I convince my daughter to go back to school after having 2 severe illnesses?
My daughter is 7 years old and is in Grade 2. She has been in school systems since she was 3. She has ALWAYS loved school. She is an A student and barely misses any days from school. Her Grade 1 year she only missed 3 days that whole year. But this year she has become very ill. She started with regular colds in September that she didn’t take time off of school for, but 2 weeks before Christmas she caught a gastro flu and she ended up in the ER after a week of the illness going away. She was fine after that and went back to school. She made it through the Christmas holidays with nothig, but she became sick after only one week back to school. This time she had a respitory illness (most likely H2N3?). She had a very high fever and 3 different docs at a clinic didn’t want to give her antibiotics. They did xrays, but the doctor couldn’t see the white spot that I seen on her lung. I brought her back 2 days later to be told that a radiologist looked at the xray and diagnosed pneumonia and ear infection. She missed nearly 2 weeks of school. I brought her back this past Monday, she came home crying that there are sick kids still in class and she frightened that she is going to catch something else. I feel the same, but I try play down that she will catch anything else. I can’t blame her for being so scared, but today she fought me all the way to the school and the secretary and to drag her to class. Never in 4 years have I seen her so upset. She won’t eat her lunch and snack for her anxiety is so high that she can’t eat. I don’t know what to do to calm her, I seriously have tried everything. Is there more to this than just scared of flu’s? Does my child suffer with anxiety. I know her father’s mother had/has severe anxiety. She is scared to leave the house. Is it genetic? My daughter is begging me not to take her to school tomorrow and give a day of rest at home. I know she has fully not recovered from the pneumonia, but I believe is will enough to go to school. Than she told me she just simply “hates school”. This is so not like my daughter, she loves school. I want to keep her home tomorrow, but I’m afraid now that the school knows that she is feeling like this that they may just call children’s aid thinking that something must be going on at home. I want to get into see her doctor but it takes a week for in. What can I do for her? Does she need therapy for her fears? Please help!
We live in Ontario where there has been an outbreak of viruses. She has missed 3.5 weeks of school in 6 weeks, so taking her out of school for another 2 weeks is not an option. She is also only 7. She seems to be more traumatized by her severe illnesses and is fearing that she may become ill again. She went back on Monday and Tuesday, and is more scared because the kids in her class are coughing and one is coughing so much that he has almost vomited several times. I am more concerned at our school system. Why would a school allow any child to come to school when they are so obviously sick and contagious? Almost every child in my daughters class has been sick. They just keep passing it to each other. Some of these recent flu’s are killing people, so I feel it should be taken more seriously. Parents are sending their children to school when they are ill and giving it to other children. Some children are getting beyond sick., like my daughter. So I feel that my child has been a

Q&A: How Does a Daughter Cope With Finding Out Her Dad has Terminal Cancer?
Question by oh_watta_woman: How Does a Daughter Cope With Finding Out Her Dad has Terminal Cancer?
We just found out not to long ago that our Dad who is 70 years old is dying of terminal cancer. We were told he had lung, pancreatic, liver, and kidney cancer. and it has covered his rib cage. He lives on morphine. He told me yesterday when I went to see him, that when you get old enough to think about life, you think about how you are going to live it and now he has to learn how to die. And I have been just sick in my heart since then. The doctor gives him 6 months to live, give or take he said. They transferred him from the hospital to a nursing home where he can be watched instead of going home alone. He wants to live his life out at home with a 26 yr old grandson watching over him. Dad’s sister says Dad should stay in the nursing home, even though they offer Hospice here and this is what Dad wants to do, his sister is against it. Dad will have a nurse come in 3 times a week and a NA the other days and someone is available 24/7, a phone call away. What should I do?
Well, I thank you all for your comments, I appreciate them all. The nursing home staff and Dads nurses don’t think Dad should be home, even with a grandson there with him. Dad has already been rushed to ER by ambulance from the home because he was spitting up blood. He was in ER for about 5 hours. He is back at the home now and hospice told him that if he goes and lives away from the nursing home that he will not be able to run to the ER whenever he wants. So he has made the decision to stay where he has round the clock care with nurses. Or so what that is what they tell me.

i think you should try to make his as comfortable as possible. try to make his last days as enjoyable (not the right word, i know) as possible. spend as much time with him as you can. if he wants to stay home as opposed to going to a nursing home, let him stay home.

Pretend you are my daughter and put yourself in her shoes, How would you feel about me as your Dad?
Question by Imadad: Pretend you are my daughter and put yourself in her shoes, How would you feel about me as your Dad?
So I was diagnosed with lung cancer last January and my daughter wanted me to live with her while I recovered and went through chemo.. she and her worthless girlfriend owe me around $ 12,000, so they told me they would be happy to have me and help out, along with my three dogs that I’ve had for over 4 yrs. So by the grace of God, it turned out not to be cancer, but a genetic disease that is going to kill me anyway, see, I was adopted myself as a child and never knew my families medical history. During my recovery from surgery, my daughters girlfriend of ten yrs cheated on her and moved out leaving her in a place that she could not afford on her own and therefore could not support me and see me through my recovery. She basically kicked me to the curb, let her girlfriend give two of my dogs away, up and moved and took my flat screen tv, patio furniture, 50″ flat screen tv, microwave, etc. etc. she basically ripped me off along with her girlfriend and they are back together now that I have moved in with another daughter five states away. I refuse to talk to her as does the rest of the family. and I am taking her to court and suing her for the money she owes me along with all the personal items she and her girlfriend stole from me and duress and and emotional stuff… so how would you feel if you were my daughter? I didn’t want it to come to this, but the rest of the family insists that she be taught a lesson, she has taken advantage of other family members also, I just found out about those incidents… thanks for your honest response… one more thing.. I raised my kids by myself for twelve yrs after their mother passed away from cancer, I thought we were close, I guess ya never know though..

What do I do about my almost 8 year old daughter crying before school?
Question by meconium kingston: What do I do about my almost 8 year old daughter crying before school?
I am a divorced mother of a highly sensitive almost 8 year old girl. She went to pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade without any problem. In fact loved every aspect of school. I have always been a full time working parent. She goes to my parents home before and after school and has always ridden the bus. We have had a very interesting year. My father was diagnosed with lung cancer in February. With all the hospital and Dr. visits, she attended day care this past summer instead of staying with him as usual. His prognosis is good and he is not sickly. She loved day care until the last three weeks. Her closest friend there stopped coming. She started crying each night and morning that she didn’t want to go. That has continued with school, now into the second week. She says nothing was wrong at daycare or school. Everyone is nice, no problems. She says she misses me and doesn’t want to leave me. I made a sticker chart for reward after a completed week of no crying to no avail. My mother says to punish her, I don’t feel like that is the answer. I only punish bad behavior. I’m becoming quite frustrated at this point as well as my parents. Will it end?
The divorce happened when she was three. Her father is very active in her life. Her father and I have a decent relationship. She spends much quality time with me. I believe she is fine after she gets to school. She is happy as pie when she gets home.

she may be afraid of losing you and your father.. kids express worry in strange ways. My mom passed away this year from breast cancer and my son and her were best friends and at night he will just out of the blue cry and tell me he missed his grandma( it has only been 3months) .. also when he has a year to where there was a bully in his class and I had to take him to school everyday crying and throwing up and he wouldn’t tell me what was wrong.. I finally had to have the school counselor talk to him and he told her and we got things resolved.
I would start with that route .. call the school and have someone talk to her. She may open up to an outside person thinking you have enough on your plate.

I have a very serious question about me and my oldest Daughter.?
Question by Deboe: I have a very serious question about me and my oldest Daughter.?
I found out that I had lung cancer & had to have partial lung removal.(major surgery) I talked to my oldest Daughter & asked her if she”d be willing to stay with me once I got home from the hospital. She promised she would. I told her that if she couldn’t, I would try to get somebody else. She said she would. Well, I had my surgery, (20th of July)had to stay in the hospital for 8 days and then was sent home. I never heard one word from her since & she never came to see me at home or the hospital. (My husband had to take 2 weeks off work to help me.) She never gave me one thought after we last talked. We have had problems in the past. She has dis-owned me before for something small and talks bad about me. She is the only child that does this to me & I have 3 other children. She is also going through a divorce & left her 3 children with her soon-to-be-ex to be with another man. I can’t take the pain she is dishing out any longer. Too many times. How should I handle this with her?

Question by : My daughter is 7yrs old and we found out a few months ago that my father in law has stage 3 lung cancer.?
They had to remove part of his right lung and they still didn’t get it all. So they started him right away on Chemo Therapy. Well come to find out he has another form of cancer as well now and it’s a very aggressive cancer at that. My daughter and her grandparents are very close. As we lived with them for years. She saw the tubes coming out of his side after they removed his lung, she knows that something is not right. Well my husbands mother informed us the other morning he has now started to loose his hair in clumps. Should we be the ones to talk with my daughter about this? Should we talk about it? We are the ones in the past that have talked to her when we found out that he had the cancer. Please help no one in our family has gone through having cancer so we are not sure how to deal with it?
My husband is taking this very ruff as I would imagine he would. Whe nI asked him how we should tell our daughter he said we shouldn’t because we are not the ones who have it and we are not the one’s who may die from it either. I said I know all of that and it is true.. but she is our daughter and I want her to be able to come to us.

Yes talk to her about it. Be honest with her and speak to her in terms she can understand. Withholding things or telling her “white lies” will really only end up hurting her more. Also don’t wait until she starts asking questions. Just sit her down and talk. It’s gonna be hard for you and it’s gonna be hard for her and nothing will make this easier.
