My grandmother is a two time cancer survivor(lung then breast). She also has diabetes. The doctors got a bad test result back for her and think she might have cervical cancer now. I want to get something for her strength. I’m a virgo and the symbol looks like an “M” with a ribbon attached. i thought about getting that and having the ribbon looking part colored pink. but that leaves out the rest of the illnesses shes overcame. any ideas? or places i can get ideas. thank you all so much.

well if you want the tattoo to represent all the illnesses you could include other symbols aswell as the ribbon, for example, the symbol for diabetes is a blue circle, http://www.diabetesbluecircle.org/ and the ribbon colur for diabetes is grey. the ribbon for all kinds of cancer is lavender and the ribbon for lung cancer is pearl coloured. cervical cancer is represented by the teal coloured ribbon. in the end whatever you get will represent your grandmothers strenth no matter what symbols you choose because its the thought that counts.

My first tat when i was 18 was the pink ribbon! I think a butterfly with one ribbon as one wing, one as the other and the last one as the body, would look cool… also, what about the word HOPE, Have one ribbon the H, one the P, one the E and have the O be a heart…

Idea for a student project:The project is to promote fresh and healthy food at the canteen using posters and flyers. Now this is one of my ideas – using a cigarette-shaped box as a base graphic, but instead of cigarettes, having images of beautiful photographs of fruits. Instead of “Surgeons warning: will cause lung cancer”, have “Will fight cancer” (fruit and veggies that is).
The only thing I’m worried about is the negative connotation of a cigarette box. That’s the only thing. Is my idea clever enough to avoid the negativity of this association? My idea is, after all, playful concept of how fruit and vegs are like opposites of cigarettes – one causes cancers, the other fights and protects (to an extent) cancers.

In the 1980s and 1990s, people were worried about lead paint fumes, fluorocarbons, asbestos and other toxic chemicals found in our homes and offices. This fear was so widespread that the news media dubbed it “Sick Building Syndrome.”
As a result, much attention has been focused on sustainable, energy-efficient, health-promoting building design. Making the necessary adjustments to your home may be as simple as choosing compact fluorescent light bulbs and Energy Star appliances, or it may be as complex as trading in that dated carpet for recycled bamboo flooring.
Green interior design lighting is important because light sucks up electricity, generates heat and costs us money. A green lighting designer would tell you that compact fluorescent lamps are much more efficient than incandescent lamps, using 80% less energy. “CFLs last 10 times longer than incandescents and normally pay for themselves,” explains David Lee, a 23-year lighting designer with The Lighting Source.
Each bulb replaced with a CFL could save you on utility costs, experts say. Of course, since these bulbs contain mercury, disposing of them is just as critical when it comes to green building design. Home Depot stores have orange bins to collect and recycle these bulbs. For those who wish for sunnier lighting color, halogen lights still offer 30-40% energy savings, compared to incandescents, although they are not as good as CFLs.
Many eco-friendly consumers are also looking for green interior design furniture and furnishings too. As you may know, indoor air quality can be affected by mold, moisture, organic compound emissions from paints, and formaldehyde emissions from cabinets and ventilation systems. Some building design materials collect contaminants and dirt as well.
When shopping, you will want to avoid phenolic resin derived plastic laminate found on inexpensive furniture. Make sure your wood products are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council to ensure the harvesters followed sustainable building practices.
Wool that has not been treated with moth-proofing chemicals is preferable to polyester. Beware of polyurethane foam padding that contains polybrominated diphenol ethers, which are flame retardants.
The latest building design trends will focus on improving the quality of life and our planet in an affordable way. “Sustainable development allows economic progress and environmental quality to be compatible goals,” said Christine Ervin, Department of Energy assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy. “Communities are finding that sustainable development strategies save taxpayer money, improve the profits of local businesses, and make the community much more livable.”

I do not have a clear idea what you are talking about.. So I am going to guess the meaning of your question.
Sick building syndrome (SBC) is the accumulation of hazardous and or toxic materials inside of a building in sufficient concentrations to make people sick. Usually it is hard to identify the toxins and hazards or the cause but once the cause found it can be relatively easily remedied.
With that definition . . . SBC does not in any way “cause” interior design space .. rather the reverse may be true..
The design of a building and its space to be “airtight” (to reduce energy costs of heating and or cooling) may reduce ventilation to a point which allows the hazards to build ..
The hazards may be offgassing from man made items inside the building (such as carpeting), molds and bacteria from ventilation and HVAC systems, etc.
However, even a properly ventilated building may have SBC because the ventilation intake into a building may be sucking in enough hazardous or toxic materials to make the people inside the building sick (such as if the air intake was sucking in diesel exhaust from a nearby road, etc.)

As a college freshman, Hegreness developed what looked like a bruise on her left ankle, Cambern reported. “I went to tons of doctors all over,” Hegreness said. “No one could figure out what it was.” After four years, the diagnosis was soft tissue cancer. “The type that Daphne has is extremely rare,” said Ohio State University Orthopedic Oncologist Dr. Joel Mayerson. “There are only 30 or less cases per year in the United States.” Two years ago her leg was amputated and she was fitted with an artificial leg, Cambern reported. She spent nine months learning how to walk again, then decided that she wanted to run. “I was not a runner at all,” Hegreness said. “Not for exercise or for sport. I’ve never even been to a track and field event.” After she started, Hegreness decided she would not just run, but run in the Paralympics for disabled athletes.

I need to design an ecofriendly town for a project and i’m not sure how i should do the layout. I know the obvious, like i shouldnt have asbestos in the houses, use solar panels, recycle, but I dont know what to do as a layout (e.g., where the houses should go in relation to a water treatment facility in relation to the school, etc). i know that something like a powerplant shouldnt be right next to the houses, but if i have all that kind of stuff in a collective area away from the houses, would them all being together cause harm? Really, my questions just whats the most efficient layout for an eco friendly town?

In my parents kitchen they have this fake brick floor from the 60′s. It’s mushy and/or padded… Just looks like total crap. I’ve wanted them ever since I was a teenager to rip it out and just have wood floors but a few months ago she had someone look at it and tell her that it has asbestos underneath it. Is there anything we can do?
I had an idea, but I’m not sure if it’s possible. What if we bought just regular kitchen tile/flooring and put over the fake brick floor? Can that be done without the tile breaking or tearing?
If anybody has any other suggestions…. please lemme know!

Your grout joint and the mortar bed will crack if you installed a new tile material over your existing condition. Depending on the material that you choose, if you chose a brittle material, that also could crack. Another drawback is the additional thickness of the material. Your kitchen floor will be approximately 1.5″ higher (trip hazard) than the rest of the house. The removal of asbestos is a major undertaking and will require a Hazmat crew.
