what is the difference between cancer that is on the liver or in the liver? ?
Question by motherofthree: what is the difference between cancer that is on the liver or in the liver? ?
If you have cancer that is stage 4 and spreads from a different location to the liver, is there a difference from tumors on the liver and in the liver? If so, can a tumor on the liver get into the liver? How fast does cancer spread once it gets to liver?
Best answer:
Answer by The Golden Buffalo
on the outside they can try to cut it off, inside would be much riskier to cut open the actual liver to get in there and take it out.

what is the difference between obstructive and restrictive pulmonary disease?
Question by : what is the difference between obstructive and restrictive pulmonary disease?
Hi, I know obstructive pulmonary diseases are asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema but what are the restrictive ones? Thank you
Best answer:
Answer by Peter S
WHAT IS RESTRICTIVE RESPIRATORY DISEASE?
This is any respiratory condition where the patient is unable to take in a full, deep breath. It can be due to lung, chest cage, or nervous system disease. By analogy imagine a steel hoop placed around your chest so that you can breathe in a little, but not take a full, deep breath. Your breathing is then restricted. The closer the steel hoop comes to your resting breathing level at the end of a normal breath, the less you can inspire and the more severe is the restriction.
Any respiratory condition resulting in inability to expand fully the lungs is a restrictive problem. Once air is inhaled, however, patients with restrictive disorders can exhale without any impediment or obstruction. Hence, the major distinction between restrictive and obstructive lung disease is between difficulty getting all the air in (restrictive) and getting all the air out (obstructive), This difference can be appreciated by measuring the forced vital capacity (Figure 1).
WHAT IS OBSTRUCTIVE LUNG DISEASE?
Asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema are examples of obstructive lung disease. Characteristic of this group is difficulty getting all the air out. As a group obstructive lung diseases are the greatest cause of respiratory morbidity in the United States. Obstructive lung disease is best diagnosed by a simple pulmonary function test of the forced vital capacity (see Section I). As shown in Figure 1, the obstructed patient can take a deep breath but the rate of exhalation is slowed. This is contrasted with a restricted patient, who cannot inhale as much air but can exhale it readily

What is the difference between brain cancer and brain tumor?
Question by Candy: What is the difference between brain cancer and brain tumor?
Once cancer goes to the brain is it deadly? What will happen to a person on chemo who is sexually active with a person with herpes?
Best answer:
Answer by norton g
LaTasha, All cancers are “malignant” but tumors are masses or growths which may be either “malignant” or “benign.” Most tumors in the brain are not primary brain tumors but are tumors which started elsewhere in the body (like lung or breast) and then spread to the brain. Tumors of the brain, which started in the brain, while possibly malignant, may also be benign.
The second question is not really related to the first. However a person with active herpes can spread the herpes virus infection to others, even if the others have been getting chemotherapy.

Q&A: How can you tell the difference between testicular cancer and epiditimitis?
Question by slast33: How can you tell the difference between testicular cancer and epiditimitis?
I heard that a lump that is painless cud be cancer. Could it be cancer if it is painful. Also, how fast does testicular cancer spread. I’m rly nervous about this!!!
Best answer:
Answer by Peter M
A lump that is painless or painful can be cancer and as far as the speed of spread if it spreads at all, the best and really only answer should come from your oncologist/urologist. The first step to take if you suspect you have a problem, is to make an appointment with a urologist. This is his/her special area of medicine and if necessary you will be referred to a oncologist, a cancer specialist. Not all lumps are cancer and not all pain in the testicles means cancer. I just recently had a severe infection in one testicle and the pain was terrible but, it was just that – an infection and it is being taken care of with a course of antibiotics courtesy of my urologist. Don’t be nervous, get it checked out and won’t you be pleasantly surprised to find out you have nothing to worry about? Good luck and best wishes.

Answer by fss
Obstructive lung disease is a category of respiratory disease characterized by airway obstruction. It is generally characterized by inflamed and easily collapsible airways, obstruction to airflow, and frequent office visits and hospitalizations. Types of obstructive lung disease include; Asthma, Bronchiectasis, Bronchitis, and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Restrictive lung diseases are a category of extrapulmonary, pleural, or parenchymal respiratory diseases that restrict lung expansion, resulting in a decreased lung volume, an increased work of breathing, and inadequate ventilation and/or oxygenation.
Asbestosis caused by long-term exposure to asbestos dust.
Radiation fibrosis, usually from the radiation given for cancer treatment.
Certain drugs such as amiodarone, bleomycin and methotrexate.
As a consequence of another disease such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis due to an allergic reaction to inhaled particles.
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a severe lung condition occurring in response to a critical illness or injury.
Infant respiratory distress syndrome due to a deficiency of surfactant in the lungs of a baby born prematurely.
Many cases of restrictive lung disease are idiopathic (have no known cause). Still, there is generally pulmonary fibrosis.Examples are:
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
Idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, of which there are several types
Sarcoidosis
Eosinophilic pneumonia
Lymphangioleiomyomatosis
Pulmonary Langerhans’ cell histiocytosis
Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis

Difference between a chest infection and a lung infection?
Question by : Difference between a chest infection and a lung infection?
Chest Infection including chest pains
Best answer:
Answer by Admiral_d
By definition, the chest includes the lungs. It also includes the muscles [ie heart] and the ribs/sternum, and [this is important!] the spaces separating those items. So, your heart is in a pericardial sack, separating your lungs. There is the ‘chest cavity’ that your lungs reside.
An infection can set up housekeeping in anyone one of those places. Where as a lung infection is an infection that resides in just the lung.
Usually, a “chest infection” can refer to a lung infection, but since there is a theoretical space between the lung and the chest wall, an infection can, and will set up housekeeping there. [Trust me, you don't want that to happen EITHER. I mean, you don't go out and activitly seek a lung infection, nor a chest infection.]
If a chest infection is bad enough, a doctor will elect to place chest tubes inbetween the wall of the chest and the lung. While placing them can be a bit painful, taking them out really smarts. And you are SOOOOOO glad they did when they do…..

How to tell the difference between slate and asbestos?
Question by Math Mom: How to tell the difference between slate and asbestos?
We are having a small part of our roof replaced…we believed it was slate, but the contractor said it might be asbestos because it is coming off dusty and crumbly…The tiles are 1 x 2 feet and about 1/8-1/4 inch thick. It’s a really old house, so we don’t exactly know when they were put on. They generally break in layers, and a thin piece will be shaved off the top and fall down in a storm, but as they are taking them down it seems like they are crumbly/dusty around the edges and break easy. Could this just be poor quality slate, or is it asbestos and how can I tell for sure?
Color is a smooth charcoal gray. Roofer said the nails look like something from the 1930′s if that helps any.
Best answer:
Answer by abacaxitoo
It sounds like slate that is reaching the end of its lifespan. it’s only good for 80-100 years (not bad!) I had a slate roof that started doing that in one area – it apparently was from a lower quality batch than the rest of the roof.
Asbestos tiles would be thinner, and be fibrous stuff embedded in a tarpaper backing. They would not flake off, they owuld just disintegrate.

can someone tell me what is the difference between COPD and Restrictive Lung Disease? Thank you?
Question by lsbak: can someone tell me what is the difference between COPD and Restrictive Lung Disease? Thank you?
Best answer:
Answer by Amy T
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a group of lung diseases that cause swelling of the airways. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the most common forms of COPD. COPD causes a decrease in the exhaled air flow caused by a narrowing or blockage of the airways.
Restrictive lung disease is a decrease in the total volume of air that the lungs are able to hold. Often, this is due to a decrease in the elasticity of the lungs themselves or caused by a problem related to the expansion of the chest wall during inhalation.
