What are good exercises for Generalized Anxiety Disorder?
Question by queenhenide776: What are good exercises for Generalized Anxiety Disorder?
I’m 15 years old and have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. What exercises can I do to feel relaxed and good? Now that school is over in a few days, I plan on exercising every day. What is a good website that show exercises for this king of problem? Also what are good breathing exercises?
Best answer:
Answer by essentiallysolo
actually physical activity of any kind will help, but you can help yourself even more with simple meditation. Spend ten minutes everyday meditating. It doesn’t take a lot of effort, just sit and focus on your breathing, slowly for ten minutes. Other thoughts will pop into your head while you do this, but just let them go and focus back on the movement of air in and out of your lungs….this trains the brain and creates new thought patterns and will eventually diminish your anxiety response.

What causes heart problems in eating disorder patients?
Question by snowsoul: What causes heart problems in eating disorder patients?
How do the different types of heart problems develop? What eating disorder symptoms cause them? Is it that the heart muscle becomes weak or what? Does that affect ability to exercise or how one feels after exercising such as dizziness or breathing and stuff?
Best answer:
Answer by Ginny W
It is different for different eating disorders: for bulimics, the purging distroys cardiac muscle and also inducing vomiting is also hard on the heart. For anorexics, the body goes into starvation mode and starts to use the cardiac muscle for sustanance. in both disease the body is very malnourished and this makes the body anemic and can lead to kidney liver failure and all sorts of bad stuff. As a former bulimic i can tell you that it makes exercising extremely hard becuase they body is deprived of electrolytes, which are what make the heart work

Help? Writing about a some sort of disorder… what kind of diseases would have these symptoms? Thanks!?
Question by : Help? Writing about a some sort of disorder… what kind of diseases would have these symptoms? Thanks!?
I’m writing a book called ‘Fate’ ( 9th book ) and I have a character who has a disorder. I need these symptoms :
Tired ( not like depressed ).
Pressure on the lungs, arms, and legs.
Poor balance.
Droopy eyes… I don’t know?
Something that is both a physical and mental disorder, not anything like a tumor… I need it to most commonly take place in children, as the character is a young girl about six or seven years old.
I like the idea of Muscular Dystrophy, EXCEPT that she is sent home with Hospice, but I CAN’T have all her joints locked up! She HAS to be able to move, and do SOME things herself! Not really big things, but some things like : drawing, minor walking, picking up small things ( light-weight cups, pencils, small books, etc. ), getting on button/zip-up clothes, stuff like that.
I can’t, simply can NOT have her joints all locked up, so she can’t move! She’s VERY important in the book, but she HAS to be able to do these small things!
Thanks for any and all help I get, I really appreciate it!
K.A.C.E./KellyEdis
P.S.
Oh! And umm… if you don’t mind, I’m uncomfortable with anatomy, so if you can explain things so I don’t have to look them up and get the full description, but use terms I understand as well… I’d be VERY happy. And please don’t refer to my character as having something ‘wrong’ with them… you know, just because they have something that makes their life difficult or challenging, doesn’t mean there is something that is ‘wrong’ with them. It just means they have a challenge or disability that makes their life different from yours… that doesn’t make it wrong. Thanks again!
P.P.S.
By the way… I wrote this in a couple other places, in the Books and Authors section I got this answer : Honestly, if you’re not comfortable with basic anatomy, then writing a story about a physically disabled child is almost certainly not for you. You’re going to need to do _far_ more research than a couple of quick questions here in order for it not to sound like a cheap plot device.
And this is the answer I gave back :No, no, no! Sorry, I should have specified, dumb me! I’m not writing a book about a child with disability, but she is a very important character! She comes in near the end of the book, but still.
And you know, sometimes writing about the things you fear or are uncomfortable with, sometimes makes you less afraid of them. For instance, I’m terrified of death, but in every book I’m writing it generally seems to revolve around death or something related! I’m not really intending this… it’s just how it turns out.
Either way, she’s not the main character, and the book is not based on that… the basic plot is a teenage boy meets a girl who calls herself ‘Fate.’ Fate is strange in many ways, but eventually Dragon ( the name of the boy ) falls in love with her and was going to propose to her. But the day he was going to propose, ‘Fate’ disappears without a trace… later he married another women and had a baby girl ( girl with disability ), then the mother dies and the daughter is diagnosed with ( disorder ) when she is about five ( almost six ).
When she is about ( the middle of ) six or ( early ) seven she is sent home with Hospice, ‘Fate’ reappears to help her. ‘Fate’ reveals herself to be an Angel who can help her, and she left because she knew Dragon was going to propose, but if she said ‘yes’ ( which she would have ) she could not stay, as the higher Angels known as The Ring ( like a halo, you know? ) would have taken her wings ( not really there ), meaning turning her back into a spirit ( ghost ) because she could no longer help those who needed it…. dot, dot, dot, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, you get it.
Either way I’m not writing about a disorder and the girl is not the main character… it’s about ‘Fate.’
Thanks and sorry for all the confusion…
Zwise, I’m aware of this… and it’s very important I have the name of the disorder. She is sent home with Hospice, so I have to say WHY she was and WHAT she has…. she’s VERY important in the book. But either way, it doesn’t matter anymore… I found exactly what I needed.
Thanks though!

The only thing I can think of that does happen in real life are the diseases where the doctors run many, many tests and still have no conclusive diagnoses. Seems this is happening a lot lately.
From my own experience, I know that exposure to every day chemicals and pollutants coupled with poor diets (SAD – Standard American Diet works) I work with herbal specialists who utilize detoxification a lot and they seem to help people with all kinds of chronic conditions, diagnosed or not, they feel better when they detoxify with herbal cleansers.
All of these symptoms could be due undefined pollutants and poor nutrition, coupled with perhaps a dysfunctional family or others with their own agendas, too busy to pay attention to her. Tie in poor attitude or inability of proper brain function as in a developmental birth defect and she could experience almost any kind of symptoms.
How important is it that you put a title on the condition? Just describe the symptoms, that she isn’t getting proper medical attention due to neglect, expense, whatever and what she has received stumps the professionals. You could introduce various chemicals that would produce the desired symptoms as needed, something like allergies, or special sensitivities.
This happens a lot to real people in real life so I don’t see not having a name for the condition as being much of a problem. I see this kind of stuff around me all the time.

Could I have an anxiety disorder? Or OCD?
Question by sephy: Could I have an anxiety disorder? Or OCD?
Today I’ve really given this a lot of thought and would like to get an opinion. I know my best bet is to go to doctors, but I went a few days ago due to bronchitis, so I don’t wanna seem really odd lol.
Basically, I noticed my behaviour differs from most people so I decided to look up anxiety disorders, where I also stumbled upon symptoms of OCD.
I’ve noticed if I have a cough, I assume I have lung cancer or lung disease, and start googling the symptoms (worst idea ever). I frequently get the feeling I can’t breathe, or I kid myself into thinking I feel like I’m gonna be sick in an inescapable situation (eg, elevator, college interview, train). When I leave the house, I get worried that I’ve left the straighteners on, or brushed past the oven and accidentally left the gas on, or not locked the back door. A few times I’ve walked to the end of my road only to go back to check if the door has actually shut properly behind me. I’m currently job seeking, but I haven’t really applied for many as I’m sure that I won’t be able to do the job. Even shop assistant jobs. It’s stupid.
I know I sound like a major hypochondriac, and I know how annoying hypochondriacs seem. I was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what this could be. Any help is appreciated x

Sounds like you could have issues with anxiety and an OCD problem, but I am not a doctor. I would suggest that you see a doctor again or a therapist that specializes in these disorders and they might be able to help. All of these symptoms could be brought on by the stress of being unemployed. Years ago I had panic attacks that almost kept me from going out in public for the very reasons you discuss here. I went to therapy and read books on anxiety which rally helped a lot. Good luck to you and don’t give up. I still experience anxiety but I now know how to diffuse it and get past it instead of letting it mushroom out of control.

By this wall of text i imagine you are fixating on small details. When people get excited cortisol is released, and sometimes due to stress. It can lead to you fixating on details that can’t be analyzed to find a solution that will calm you down. Focus on how youre feeling and behaving and whether its realistic what youre feeling. The feeling wont vanish right away if you realize the anxiety is unfounded. But keep it in the back of your mind, breathe deeply and it should calm down in 10-15 minutes.

You are hyperventilating. You HAVE to calm down and tell yourself this IS going to pass and that nothing/no one is going to hurt you. MAKE yourself slow your breathing down or you are going to pass out. Trust me…..there is nothing wrong with your lungs/airways. Calm down, slow breaths.

Question by LDKJGDJDSJKSD;LFSKJFLKSJDLKFGJLD: Does anyone know the name of this disorder?
I read somewhere, that people have disorders to which the body need to think “breathe” in order to breathe.
For example, breathing comes naturaly to us, but for a rare slim to nothing amount of people, they need to think to themselves breathe. (Just like we think to ourselves pee, or swallow.)

Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Everybody worries from time to time, but if your worrying extends to interrupt your daily life and cause debilitating anxiety, you may have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD. While people with GAD may start out by worrying about simple things, this disorder can easily take over a person’s life and cause other medical problems. If you think that you have GAD, you should see your doctor immediately and talk about your various treatment options. People with GAD worry about normal things like money, healthy, relationships, and jobs. It is normal to worry about these things, even on a daily basis. However, if you have GAD, you will find that this worry is constant and excessive—and in many cases, irrational. People who are diagnosed with GAD are often so distracted and consumed with worry that it is impossible to think about or do anything else. From the moment a patient awakes to the moment he or she falls asleep, worry is a part of life. Often times, the worry has no foundation. Medical professionals do not yet know what causes GAD, so treatment and diagnosis can sometimes be difficult. There are a number of symptoms stemming from GAD which include nausea, difficulty breathing, muscle tension, headache, restlessness, fatigue, sleeping problems, a change in appetite, and sweating or hot flashes. If you are experiencing some of these symptoms and find yourself worrying often, you should see your doctor for help with what could be GAD. Treatment for GAD begins with ruling …

Q&A: Is this breathing problem anxiety? a disorder? PMS? something else??
Question by Kitzi K: Is this breathing problem anxiety? a disorder? PMS? something else??
I have problems breathing, i need to take a deep breath every few minutes and its getting worse, its kind of like a ‘sigh’ or a little bit like a yawn, but feels like I can never get enough air. Most of the time I feel like I shudder’ afterwards, almost like when a baby cries and is winding down afterwards and gives the little sobs.
I am feeling like I am suffering anxiety, i was on valium before and feel similar to the time before…. i also am tired, but insomniac, and then have burts of energy and then followed by very little motivation. I’m having relationship issues, money worries and have two small kids, but nothing has changed for the worse there. I also suffer badly from PMT/PMS and cannot seem to get it under control…..
Right now the breathing is worrying me, it may sound like i have a lot on my plate but thats just a part of it, and thats just normal for me – LOL! what do you think? could the breathing be part of the anxiety problem? Or maybe something else??

It could be a part of the anxiety. It’s highly likely, the way you explain it. But you should definitely go get checked out with your general health practitioner doctor. If asthma is ruled out, then you should bring these symptoms up with your psychiatrist or psychologist (I am assuming you’re seeing one). If you are seeing one, are you on any medications? The ‘breathing problems’ could be a side-effect of a medication. Either way, get it checked with a professional, immediately. Breathing is pretty important. *wink*

Medical questions? Heart, breathing, generalized anxiety disorder…?
Question by Kynthosa: Medical questions? Heart, breathing, generalized anxiety disorder…?
Alright so I’m 18 years old and I don’t have health insurance so I thought I’d put up some of my symptoms on the internet to see if any body would know if I have anything to be concerned about or if I’m just being a hypochondriac.
Recently I’ve been having noticeable shortness of breath / shallow breathing that leads me to have anxiety over my breathing (“Will my throat close up? What if I stop breathing?” Etc) and it almost makes me not want to get up in the morning because when I’m asleep is the only time I’m not having anxiety.
I also have a history of severe panic attacks and since my anxiety has been acting up I’ve been having more panic attacks. Over the last 4 years I’ve rarely had many panic attacks, I’d go months without having any. But now I will panic 2-3 times a week. I’ve actually called into work a couple of times due to high anxiety and panic attacks, once I was at work and had one so bad I had to go home.
Also, when I was in elementary school I’d get dizzy so bad I wouldn’t be able to see (fuzzy sight like on a TV with bad reception) and I’d faint. Since then I’ve stopped fainting, but I do still get dizzy and I’ve always had a fluttery heart (Ever so often it feels like a butterfly is dancing in my chest). All of that had subsided the last couple of years but recently I’ve been getting more dizzy upon initial standing (though my sight doesn’t get nearly as fuzzy as it had when I was young) and I do not faint. My heart has been fluttering intensely off and on all day today and yesterday (But, I have just started my period. I have no clue if that has anything to do with it, but it seems my heart beats more irregularly when I’m on my period).
I just haven’t felt like myself lately, I’ve been shady and kind of frightened to leave home for fear of having a panic attack in public or suddenly not being able to breathe. I used to be spontaneous and happy and.. I was the person who got things moving. Now I feel like a slacker. I just want to feel normal again.
Does anybody know what’s wrong with me, or how to fix it?
*Sorry I forgot to add.
I have PTSD and I saw a therapist for years when I was young about panic attacks and what not, It’s just been years since I’ve seen anybody about it because they haven’t bugged me lately.

GAD or Generalized Anxiety Disorder is actually quite common but must be diagnosed by a professional whether it’s a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Even though you do not have health insurance, you need to find a way to see a doctor about it. You should call local insurance offices in your area or even discuss it with an ER in your area. Either way, you should be tested for GAD or other medical conditions so they can treat it.

Always having hard time breathing from panic disorder?
Question by Natalie D: Always having hard time breathing from panic disorder?
I have a lot of troubles breathing. I’ve had panic disorder for about a year. I’ve been checked out for other issues, it seems to be just panic disorder. Does anyone else with panic disorder have troubles breathing more than once and awhile? I have also developed OCD now, I always check my pulse…like always. My friends always notice me doing it. They always just wonder why i’m doing it, and tell me i’m fine. I honeslty can’t stop doing it, not matter how hard I try. I also notice it my panic attacks get worse when I’m around smoke, or if I even have a drink or 2. I don’t drink on a regular basis. Hardly ever. I ate chocolate today and I’ve been having worse panic attacks. Also caffine I know is another one that triggers panic attacks. I don’t drink coffee, but I had an ice cap the other day and it was bad after…I had panic attacks like the rest of the day till I went to sleep. Tonight I broke down. I hate medication I don’t take it anymore. I don’t have much control over this. help
I don’t know how to deal with this. I’ve been to so many doctors. They all tell me i’m healthy. I always think i’m not. It ffeels helpless. I know a lot off people deal with this problems. Anyone I talk to that does I feel for them, because I know exactly how they feel. It’s horrible. I just like being reasured about this issue. It’s so hard not thinking it’s something else. I always get very moody too, while i’m having an attack. I feel bad cause I treat my boyfriend like crap, when he’s only trying to help. I don’t know how to control myself. It’s very frustrating.
One more thing. Does anyone with this problem have breathing problems when walking up stairs, or going for walks. Usually during a panic attack. Sometimes I do. Other time running around and being active helps..other time it just seems to irrate my breathing more. Does this sound farmilar to anyone?

You’re breathing may be a symptom of ocd. Panic attacks certainly can cause you to feel like you are not able to breathe, believe me I know. Why not go to a doc, a phsyciatrist, not a therapist, who specializes in ocd. good luck

Hello, I suffer from intense panic disorder. One of the things that helps me to relax is the notion that you cannot be speaking if you cannot breath. I was wondering if someone can explain/verify this for me in detail, and or provide linkage to any site that does. I feel that if I am more certain it will be more effective in helping me to relax. Answer by Maledicta
Sure. What’s happening is your body is trying to find a balance that will allow you to feel extreme fear, but not so much that you are overwhelmed. One friend felt the same way about breathing through his teeth.
It’s great that you are trying to relax, but it is worth considering whether a prescription for Clonozepam might be worthwhile. It’s a tranquilizer, and if you take it under your tongue it enters your blood faster, which is important with Panic Disorder.
You owe it to yourself to read up on it on the web but stick to reliable sites like emedicine and mayo clinic.
