Question by Iheartart: I know this is a lot to ask, but can someone please edit my essay about eating disorders? (10 points)?
Please give your opinions and incites on what you think, what I should improve on to make it better, and correct any misspellings. Thanks a lot! Only constructive critism please! Here is my essay:
Sometimes, you can’t just be happy with who you are. You feel depressed but you want to keep your feelings all in. Having low self-esteem, depression, or stress can lead to an eating disorder. An eating disorder is an illness that causes a person to develop unhealthy eating habits. The three types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating. Having an eating disorder can affect your relationship with other, cause you to think many negative thoughts about yourself and your body, and damage your health. If you suspect that someone has an eating disorder, it is important that you show support for that person so they can have a healthy attitude and body. As you grow older, you begin to feel more conscious of your body. You go through physical changes, as well as “social pressures.” One or two out of one hundred kids, particularly girls, that struggle with this disorder can successfully hide their extreme weight loss from their parents for months or years. Anorexia can come from psychological, genetic, social, and family factors. Many girls are exposed to images of thin models that have the “ideal” body size. Participating in activities such as gymnastics, where thinness is emphasized can also lead to anorexia. Since parents are role models fortheir children, a parent’s body image, their lifestyle, and their dieting Once someone is obsessed with dieting, exercise, and taking laxatives, they will still see themselves as overweight even if they can see their bones.
Anorexics usually portion their food carefully or come up with excuses to skip their meals. Without receiving the nutrients the body needs to keep your bones strong, and help the body maintain homeostasis, the lack of nutrients will affect the body in many ways:
bulleted-(in women) losing at least three consecutive menstrual periods;not wanting or refusing to eat in public;anxiety; weakness;brittle teeth; shortness of breath;obsessiveness about calorie intake;severe malnutrition;a drop in pulse and breathing rate;kidney failure;hair loss and fingernail breakage;lanugo hair;lightheadedness and inability to concentrate;anemia;swollen joints;dry and yellow skin; higher levels of cortisol and vasopressin
death
Being anorexic can also result in an irregular heartbeat, permanent failure of normal growth, and osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones become weak and can breakeasily. You may feel cold most of the time because your body temperature decreases.Taking laxatives can wear out the bowel muscles, causing it to decrease in function. Sometimes, it’s hard for parents to tell the difference between their child to be “self-image” concerns and “warning signs” to anorexia. Someone that is self conscious and on a strict diet may not necessarily be anorexic. There are “glaring” abnormal behaviors and physical signs.
Someone who is anorexic may:
become very thin, frail, or emaciated;be obsessed with eating food and weight control;weigh herself or himself repeatedly;count or portion their food carefully;only eat certain foods, such as diary and wheat;exercise excessively;feel fat even if their body is literally only showing a sheet of skin and bones;withdraw from social activities, especially meals or celebrations involving food;be depressed, lack energy, and often feel cold
If you suspect that your child or someone you know is anorexic, it is important to give as much support to them as you can, and try to help them admit that they have an eating disorder. Some people may feel depression, anger, or denial when faced to admit that they are anorexic. Try to show your concern and approach the person in a loving and supportive way. Use “I” instead of “you.” If the person is still in denial, try to be patient, saying that you’ll be there whenever they are ready to talk about it. Get help from a doctor, nutritionist, and a therapist. Encourage a healthy outlook on nutrition, exercise, and their appearance to help them raise their self esteem. For parents, it’s critical to make exercise a regular family activity and have their child help prepare nutritional meals for the whole family.
Bulimia is another type of eating diorder that involves dieting. A person with bulimia is tempted to eat “comfort foods”, such as ice cream or cake. After their out-of-control eating, the person will feel ashamed and guilty for what they have done. They will try inappropriate methods of weight control, such as vomiting and fasting. Bulimics will show excessive shape and weight concern, yet still consume quantities of food up to 20,000 calories a day. This all begins with dissatisfaction of the bodt.
Like anorexia, bulimia also involves being exposed to pictures of thin models and then not being able to feel good about themselves. Fami

just a few tips…
try not to use contractions
when you say “anorexics” you are isolating them from the everyone else it would be better to say people with anorexia or something like that
“Being anorexic can also result in an irregular heartbeat, permanent failure of normal growth, and osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones become weak and can breakeasily.” you use a lot of comas here. take out the one between “osteoporosis and a” and replace it with “which is” then take out “in which” and replace it with “that causes” then take out the “can” before “break”
try to read through it yourself and see if there are any other places where comas can be taken out. otherwise it looked superb

Processing Meat Requires a Huge Insulin Response, more than Eating Half a Pound of Sugar!
To know more about Andreas, please visit www.ener-chi.com Hi, this is with regards to diabetes and meat consumption or animal protein consumption and I have stated in my diabetes book “DIABETES NO MORE” about how the human body while processing meat will require a huge insulin response which is much-much bigger than in response to eating half a pound of sugar. And this can be to many people very surprising and I want to explain that in greater detail because it is something that has not been very much understood by lay people and also by medical professionals. However we know that there is a lot of scientific research now that clearly shows that when we eat meat on a regular basis, the risk of developing diabetes is shooting up dramatically. In fact there is a more recent study done by the national institute of cancer which has shown that regular meat eating increases the risk of dying by twenty percent among people who regularly consume meat and that is from all causes including cancer, heart disease and diabetes, so yes, meat eating can contribute to increased rates of diabetes. I have always talked about how meat eating directly leads to diabetes and in my books I have mentioned that and I want to be very careful the way I say that, that is why I am going to read a passage taken from my book. “If you eat concentrated protein food such as meat or chicken, your body requires much insulin to synthesize proteins from the amino acids derived from these foods. Eating Meat Is The Cause Of Cancer: Believable or Bogus?
Question by : Eating Meat Is The Cause Of Cancer: Believable or Bogus?
WebMD reports that yet another everyday item could be killing you, and this time the culprit is meat.
According to a recent study by the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund, reducing your intake of red meat and processed meat could significantly reduce your risk for colon cancer.
When this advice is combined with other diet and lifestyle changes — such as consuming less alcohol, boosting fiber intake, exercising, and maintaining a healthy body weight — it could prevent 45% of all colon cancer cases, or more than 64,000 cases of colon cancer each year, the report states.
So we’ll go ahead and add that to the list of things that are sure to kill us, right next to alcohol and the sun.
So do you believe meat is the cause of cancer? Or do you think this is bogus?
Best answer:
Answer by SundayGirl
They said RED and PROCESSED meat. A healthy grain fed chicken is a lot different than the ‘chicken’ you get in your chicken mcnuggets. A lot of anything is not good for you. Moderation is key. Alcohol, sun, red/processed meats, moderately is fine.

what do people think about this poem about eating disorders?
Question by eyepublishing: what do people think about this poem about eating disorders?
I once knew a girl who was so thin her photos looked like x-rays,
So insecure in her own body she’d try and make it disappear
And late at night after a drive-thru dinner
I’d hear her weeping out the window
Breathing deeply into a brown paper bag
In, out, in, out
Whatever creates stability she’d laugh
She’d show me her wrists sometimes
Trophies that she was in fact the victim
Proof that this problem was the driver
And that her seatbelt was fastened way too tightly to allow proper circulation, motivation, and composition
Of a situation that she saw no way out of other than to write epitaphs
On every single napkin she ever needed to use
A wastebasket filled with goodbyes, stained with ketchup
And at night now I wonder if she’s vanished
Into thin air
Like a magic trick I saw when I was younger

Q&A: My dad has stopped eating. He has transverse myelitis, MS, and lung cancer. He is 79 years old.?
Question by pugles2010: My dad has stopped eating. He has transverse myelitis, MS, and lung cancer. He is 79 years old.?
While undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, his esophagus was burned. CT scans show that the tumor cells have diminished, but he developed an atonic mega colon as a result of the chemotherapy. He also has tranverse myelitis and Multiple Sclerosis. He won’t eat and is being fed intraveneously in the hospital with nutrients, vitamins and minerals that provide him with 3000 calories per day. He cannot feed himself and when we feed him, he never takes more than 3 – 4 bites of food per day. He barely moves and we are lucky if he chooses to sit in a chair for fifteen minutes. His speech is often slurred. The only alternative that we have is to get him strong enough for surgery for the atonic mega colon but he often refuses the physical therapy as it is too much work for him and he is worn out afterwards. We fear that the MS is really kicking in from his lack of movement. He has been in the hospital for 3 weeks and nearly bedridden for 60 days. Is there any hope that he will recover?
Best answer:
Answer by tigger34
Every person heals differently but you are right non movement tends to make some things worse. Have any of your family members talked to him and asked HIM what he wants? Due to the pain and the lack of desire to maintain I would say that your father has a failure to thrieve. Meaning that instead of berdening his loved ones and making things harder for him, he has given up. Someone while he is able should talk to him. Let him decide how much more he can take. That would mean the world to him I am sure. My best to you and your family

Question by charles t: Heard eating apricot pits fights my cancer Some call them kernels, some seeds/pits is there a difference?
I’m fighting 4th stage lung cancer. Apricots pits are said to make a difference Don’t know if seeds/ kernels/ pits are the same. Has anyone tried them and what advice can you give as to taste, what to look for, where to buy, how to store, and how to take them and quantity to take. Any advice would be helpful

Apricot shells and the bark of a certain West coast pine that is going extinct go back to the 60′s I believe. A certain drug company that I believe was concerned with a Mexican drug company was on the market selling this treatment. The FDA made very careful tests on these and some others. Many people were letting their regular meds go for these home treatments. They were found to be false, they do not work ut people were going to Mexico and spending millions on these drugs. I know it’s hard to take but, they just do not work. This has proven to be true. Ask your doctor about it. I’m sorry and God bless you.

Our cat is going to die soon. She has lung cancer. She has stopped eating and is brething with discomfort.?
Question by rizwan602: Our cat is going to die soon. She has lung cancer. She has stopped eating and is brething with discomfort.?
Her brething is deep but she exhales with some force. Sometimes (for a couple of minutes) she is brething with her mouth open and most other time she is brething through her nose.
Her cancer was diagnosed in November 06 and she was given 3 months to live. She has shown no signs of illness until 2 weeks ago when we noticed her heavy breaths. She still was playful and eating but for the last 2 days she has stopped eating.
We are periodically feeding her what the doctor recommends. We are making her ingest liquids and some solid foods.
What I want to know is when is the time to take her in for euthanization? What are the symptoms that she is hours or minutes away from dying a painful death?
We do not want do it too soon because what if she is sick from something else and she recovers? I do not want to think I killed her by being impatient?
She still responds to calling by moving her tail. She walks slowly and just lays down.
What are the signs that she is near?
She does not have her mouth open right now. Sometimes she will brethe with her mouth slighly open.
What I am afraid of is if we euthanize her, we may be killing her because she is lethargic from another ailment and the lung cancer is not whats causing her discomfort. What if she makes it back to how she was in a few days? Maybe the lung cancer will take her in 2 months instead of now. We do not want to kill her … what should we wait for as far as symptoms of nearby death from lung cancer? Coughing? Blood coming out? We have for now decided that if we see any prolonged discomfort in brething, we will euthanize her. But I want to know what to look for.
Thank you all!

Why/how does eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables plus whole grains help prevent cancer?
Question by skahhh: Why/how does eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables plus whole grains help prevent cancer?
We are exposed to toxins. We all know that. “They” say you need to eat at least 5 servings of vegetables (including legumes) and fruits each day, especially those with the most color (a sign of high nutrient content). These foods are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and many other substances that work together to lower risk of several cancers, including cancers of the lung, mouth, esophagus, stomach, and colon. Not only that, if prepared properly, vegetables and fruits are usually low in calories, so eating them in place of higher-calorie foods can help you control your weight.
What exactly does an antioxidant do for you. I like vegetables. Apparently my kids and my family do not. How do I get them to like them if it is good for them?
Best answer:
Answer by Mr.Rogers
Try mixing your vegetables with a steak or some mashed potatoes. Also try using some new cooking styles and techniques that are easy to find on the internet. As for the fruits, instead of giving them sugary treats, cut them up some apples or an orange. Try making them an extra healthy strawberry or mango milkshake.
Hope this helps!

Does meat eating increase the risk of getting a cancer or a deadly disease?
Question by : Does meat eating increase the risk of getting a cancer or a deadly disease?
I read the cancer article in wiki and I came to know that red meats increase the risk of contracting cancer (especially colon cancer) and heart diseases. Low intake of fresh veggies and fruits will also increase the risk of contracting these diseases. Is this true.
Best answer:
Answer by Doctor
Its all about lying with statistics. When they say eating red meats may give you cancer, they don’t put in that it does so because of the preservatives/hormones/etc. that they put in it. if your really that scared, just go with organic stuff. And eating plenty of fruits doesn’t hurt either.
