Q&A: Why do Americans even try to prove this? (Healthcare)? #2?
Question by : Why do Americans even try to prove this? (Healthcare)? #2?
So I asked this before, and the general response was “Are you chronocally ill? Because then you would know the horrors of your healthcare system!”
I’m not chronocally ill… but within a year, my grandfather had a BRAIN TUMOUR, my grandmother was recently diagnosed with LUNG CANCER.
I’ve also had an uncle who was in a MINING ACCIDENT. Two other aunts with CANCER. My best friend’s step-dad also has CANCER, etc.
This is just getting ridiculous. These people have all been treated well. My uncle got air lifted and treated straight away. I’m being told that people have to go to the states though? I’ve known many ill and injured people, and NONE of them have gone to the states for treatment.
Also… I got “How long does it take you to get to your healthcare provider? I bet it takes 50 billion years!” and actually, no, that’s not true either. I can walk in to urgent care tomorrow and see my family doctor, it’ll take about a half hour.
I also went to a walk-in clinic the other day… I was literally in and out in a fifteen minutes.
OH and now the response is that you don’t believe me!
Hi, sorry, I’m in Canada, but I’ve also lived in Britain. I’m just really outraged. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be spending time defending the system like this, supposedly “making up” these things. Why would I defend it if I was lying? Use your logic.
I’m actually sickened and very frustrated… Maybe I should step in to urgent care tomorrow! Tell them that they need to smarten up because the Republican Americans who are brainwashed by pharma companies are on to us!
So obvious? Even though none of those are actually lies? Proves how PARANOID you are though. Maybe you should be more skeptical about the media.
Don’t YOU know many people with cancer? etc? Everyone knows a lot of people with illnesses.
I have talked about six people, if you don’t know six people who have been chronocally ill, or injured, then you must be quite young.
Why would I even lie? I’m not American, this will not affect me. If it didn’t work out for people I know, whether they have lived or died, I wouldn’t be defending it.
To know SIX people… who have been chronocally ill, or injured, in 19 years… is too much?
My grandmother lives in Newfoundland, the poorest province in Canada! She’s having no problem getting cancer treatment. Also, my boyfriend lives in Britain, and I have friends there, none of them have complained to me. I also lived in Britain as a student, and I got a doctor right away when I needed one.

Q&A: Is it possible to have 2 different types of cancers simultaneously and not even know it?
Question by xyz1: Is it possible to have 2 different types of cancers simultaneously and not even know it?
I am wondering if it’s possible to have 2 types of cancers simultaneously and not even know it….as weird or as stupid as that sounds…..I suspect I may have early stage throat or lung cancer since I have alot of weird symptoms (see my other question for details) but I also think I might have stomach cancer as well. I get these SEVERE tummy aches all the time (even when I’m not on my period or due to start it for several days) and can’t help but think of what it is. I don’t think it could be endometriosis but what do I know? I’m no doctor, nor can I afford to see one right now, which is why I’m hoping a doctor could answer my question on here. My tummy also hurts alot before AND after I eat, many times. Is this normal? What’s the deal?

When I was around 10 I picked up a cough….someone told me it was smokers cough. From my dad?? From light second hand smoke???? I guess. Well. I am experiencing the same thing and for longer. I too am freed of my cigerette addiction as well BUT i have post nasal drip and sinus issues now clearing my throat all the time since i quit it is a phenomenon that afflicts many former smokers for the first year or so. You bombarded your lungs with those toxins and it takes a long while for some to get their lungs to clear out. I am not a doctor just a former smoker trying to find relief as well and I related to your question. passive second hand smoke is bad as well. My father quit smoking in 1989 but my step mom quit 2 years ago and so he was exposed to her smoking so as a result he clears his throat and coughs now sometimes so the second hand smoke can wreck havoc on others around the smokers unfortunatelty. you should stay farrrrrrrrr away from smokers and tell your father to have some decency and stop smoking around u and all that
i hope u and i get relief soon i am hating the fact that i ever smoked and now i just will encouarge u to be strong go to the gym get fresh air outside and never smoke again eventually this cough will lesson and lesson (i hope ) i think.. for sure yes
holla back

I’ve lost several people to cancer, but none of them died of the actualy disease. Mainly from side affects of treatments.

Question by nytrowildcat: We scraped our popcorn ceiling not even considering asbestos. It came back at 6%. Now what?
All of the research I’ve done seems to be centered around people who were exposed to it every day for years… this seems to me to be short-term acute exposure. How much danger are we now in? My husband is convinced we’ve signed our death warrants. Thoughts?

Tight chest even after antibiotics and symptoms have been with me for a week after medication?
Question by : Tight chest even after antibiotics and symptoms have been with me for a week after medication?
So i’ve been on a 4 day antibiotic medication prescribed by a doctor (not a specialist) two weeks ago. He suspected that I had a lung infections. After I took the antibiotics I started to feel a little better and my fever wore away. On the 3rd day that he told me to go back if I didn’t heal completely, he did a check up and he told me I was perfectly fine. BUT I still felt that tight chest feeling and even until now, if I avoid breathing hard, I would feel completely normal but when I eat biscuits, my airway seems to tighten a little. My mom thinks i’m completely crazy and the only reason why i’ve not healed completely is because i’ve been worrying too much. I plan on visiting a second opinion but can someone please tell me whats wrong if possible? Thanks.
Best answer:
Answer by manda kelly
If you have no fever or any other signs of infection, you probably are Ok. It would be ideal to follow up with a Chest X-Ray, to be on the safe side. It’s possible what you are feeling now is the tightness of muscles in recovery, still repairing themselves. Lung infections can leave scar tissue, and it can feel different when you are being active. Your body takes time to heal things like that, but usually you will adjust to the change over time. Relax when you notice the tightness, try not to pay to much attention to it and your lungs will start compensating for the other parts of it that are not working so great right now. It’s a good idea to get a second opinion though, just in case. You know your baseline and there is nothing wrong with being proactive about your health. Hope this helps some and good luck:)

UK Prostate Cancer Survival rate around 60% VS. USA 95% even with our poor rating By the WHO?
Question by Thor Girl: UK Prostate Cancer Survival rate around 60% VS. USA 95% even with our poor rating By the WHO?
According to the U.K.’s Office of National Statistics, the five-year relative survival rate for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer between 1993 and 1995 (and thus followed up to 1998 or 2000) was 59.8 percent, The National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results database puts concurrent U.S. rates at 95.4 percent. As with the more recent figures, there is indeed a significant difference,

Is inhaled radon bioaccumulative? Are even acute exposures bad?
Question by Chaucer: Is inhaled radon bioaccumulative? Are even acute exposures bad?
live in a house that was built in 1998-2000. The basement is fully furnished, insulated, and built on a concrete slab. I live in Gerogia, in Henry County.
A few weeks ago, my air conditioning system in the basement apparently died. Air is still circulating (I think) but the air down there is very humid, moist, and smelly. What does this mean? Does this mean that any possible radon in the air isn’t being circulated out, and is instead being allowed to stagnate in the air?
Anyway, I would like to know if it is dangerous to be in the basement because of the possible lack of fresh air. If I spend five minutes down there a day, and indeed I do inhale some radon gas, what happens? In these small quantities, can it still irradiate my lungs and be potentially carcinogenic…? Or is my body able to defend itself from such small exposures such as this without taking -any- damage /at all/?

Will Cancer/Leukemia reduce your life even after cured?
Question by Johnny Blazer: Will Cancer/Leukemia reduce your life even after cured?
My fiance’ had Cancer in her early teen years. She was a Freshman when told she had Leukemia. She fought through it and by her Junior year, it had cleared… she had a very serious case of it. Now, after blood work and what not… she found out she is completely clean. I was told you could never be 100% clean after having it… so is this true or false on her word? She is sometimes to embarrassed to talk to me in detail about it. Well, I was wondering… even though she fought through it, and is okay, and has been for about 8 years now… because she had it, will it shorten her life-span? Meaning, do most Cancer / Leukemia survivors usually die before that of someone who never had it? If so… whats the usual life-span for one who has been previously diagnosed?
Best answer:
Answer by Steph
I’m not entirely sure. I had a friend who was diagnosed with leukemia in 6th grade. We’re both 20 years old now and as far as I know she’s doing great. Aside from some joint problems she’s basically normal. There’s always the risk of the cancer coming back, and she may have a slightly weakened immune system but if she’s otherwise healthy I would take her word for it. Working in a pharmacy I’ve seen people who were diagnosed with cancer at a young age die at a nice old age and their deaths weren’t related to the cancer at all.

Should I go out with friends for my birthday even though I really don’t want to?
Question by Nannie: Should I go out with friends for my birthday even though I really don’t want to?
I turn 30 tomorrow. I’ve never been much on birthdays to begin with, but this year my dear friends want to do something special.
Since we’re all teachers they decided we should go out Friday night. The thing is this: my dad’s dying of lung cancer. Besides the fact that I’m prone to depression, his sickness, plus the start of school really has me down. Also, tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of my cousin’s sudden death. I don’t feel like being with people right now.
I’m going to go anyway, and be as pleasant and grateful as I can be, but can anyone offer tips to help? I feel like the tears are always right behind my eyes, and I’m afraid if I get really emotional about this birthday thing, I won’t be able to stop crying. And wouldn’t that be awful at my birthday celebration? My friends are wonderful; they wouldn’t care if I cried, but I feel obligated to be as upbeat as I can. Any ideas to get me in the right frame of mind?
I guess I should have qualified my explanation by saying that I’m in therapy and have been for about 11 years now, and am on Zoloft and Lamictal. I really have no qualms about either therapy or medication. I guess I just feel silly calling my psychologist and asking this sort of question. It’s sort of one of these daily life issues that hardly seems worthy of calling my therapist for, but which great people like you guys can really offer some good advice.
In response to one comment, yes, I am really planning to go, but more wanted some idea about how to “psyche” (for lack of a better word) myself out of this funk while I hang out with my friends.
Thank you all for your helpful and caring responses.

Where can I find and obtain clean water in Minnesota? Is it even possible?
Question by The fed up matthew™: Where can I find and obtain clean water in Minnesota? Is it even possible?
I don’t like the extra added fluoride of tap water so I only drink reverse osmosis purified water or Ice Mountain spring water (I heard it doesn’t have fluoride). All the water I buy comes in plastic containers though which brake down in the light. So where can a human get clean water these days? I’m not even going to attempt to filter my own city’s water myself because it has had abnormally high levels of radon in it for the past few years and may cause cancer after prolonged exposure! I’m thirsty in Minnesota please help.

Question by Help Me: My Fiance is sitll smoking even though I asked her not to over the last 2 yrs since I met her, Any Advice?
I have been with my Fiance for 2 1/2 yrs, Our Wedding is set for Sept. 19, 2008 and I cant wait to get married to her. I found out 3-4 months after I met her that she smokes Cigarettes, I do not Smoke at all and I do not want my Fiance to smoke. I am a Cancer Survivor of Head & Neck Cancer, and knowing that Smoking can cause Lung Cancer it makes me hate it even more, I do not want anybody that I love or care for to go through the treatment like I did for 5 months, worst time of my life. I just recently found out that she has been lying to me for the past 4 months, she told me that she was stopping for good so I took her word for it and neer mentioned it again. I called her today, and caught her smoking, she even admitted to me that she has never stopped. She feels like I am not compramising with her, she feels that if she doesnt do it around me and I dont smell it on her, I shouldnt have any problem with her smoking. I cant do that, just the thought of her smoking hurts. what can i do?

What would you do if there was something you really enjoyed doing and you had been doing since before you two met and she told you she didn’t like it and wanted you to give it up? Even more so, what if it was something you were addicted to? I’m not saying she couldn’t stop if she didn’t want to, but as a fellow smoker I know how hard it can be. Also if you’re like me and just plain like smoking.
If you love her you’ll let her do what she feels like she needs to do with her life, even if it’s something as small as a cigarette. She knows you care, she knows you’re opinion, but it’s her life. She gets to pick what happens in it.

Why does Japan have such a high life expectancy, even though a ton of people smoke cigarettes?
Question by : Why does Japan have such a high life expectancy, even though a ton of people smoke cigarettes?
I understand that diet plays a large part, but I would imagine that one of the leading causes of death in Japan is lung cancer. People live till their 80s in Japan, yet you see a ton of people smoking cigarettes, which is horrible for your lungs and greatly increases the rate of lung cancer. It’s not just the smokers either; second-hand smoke is probably rampant in Japan. If this is true, how come so many people live such long lives?
Best answer:
Answer by roppongi
It is probably because they are on a healthier diet.
Obesity is not common in Japan, which means they are less likely to suffer heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, etc.
