Brake Repair – Choosing the Right Brake Pads
Brake Repair – Choosing the Right Brake Pads
Article by Antoinette Ayana
One of the most important elements of an automobile for secure driving is the brakes. Without effective braking ability, a car cannot be driven safely, and you might need brake repair. Among the many routine maintenance needs of your vehicle is brake pad replacement. There are no brake pads that last forever, even though some newer types can last for quite awhile. Even the most advanced materials in use today are subject to wear and tear. When it becomes apparent that your vehicle brakes need repair, your quick response can help you save time and money. The longer you continue to use worn brake pads, the more likely they are to cause damage to the brake rotors.
The first indication that your brake pads are worn and you need brake repair is a high-pitched squeal when you stop the car. This annoying noise comes from the soft-metal wear indicator as it rubs against the rotor. The purpose of the wear indicator is to alert you that the pads are worn. You may also notice that your vehicle pulls to one side, your brakes grab or vibrate, or your brake pedal feels softer when you press on it. These are all signals that it’s time for new pads, or you can find recommendations for replacement intervals in the owner’s manual for your car.
If you take your car in for brake repair right away, you will probably only need to replace the pads. Brake pads are plates that have a friction material bound to the surface on the side that faces the brake disc. Deciding which kind of brake pad to purchase requires some consideration of the advantages and disadvantages of each. There are four types of brake pads to choose from, and they are semi-metallic, non-asbestos organic, low-metallic NAO, and ceramic. While semi-metallic pads are very sturdy and have great heat transfer, they also can wear down rotors quickly. They can be noisy, and may not perform that well in cool temperatures. Non-asbestos organic pads are softer and quieter, but they create more brake dust and wear out faster. Low-metallic NAO brake pads contain small amounts of copper or steel, which creates better transfer of heat and better braking performance. The metal content also produces more brake dust and more noise.
Many people believe that ceramic pads are the best. They consist of ceramic fibers, nonferrous filler materials, and bonding agents. They can also contain small amounts of metal. Ceramic brake pads are more expensive than other types, but they are cleaner and quieter. They provide superior braking performance and do not wear down the brake rotors. Though there are only four types of pads, there is a wide variety of brand names and performance categories to make your decision more difficult.
Most manufacturers produce standard, upgraded and severe-duty brake pads. For normal driving conditions, standard pads should be sufficient. The upgraded and severe-duty pads are ideal if you carry heavy loads or many passengers often, commute daily down a steep grade, or drive regularly through mountainous terrain. If you use upgraded pads for normal driving they will probably just be noisier and create more brake dust. Whichever type you choose, be sure to purchase pads with a certified label. Either BEEP or D3EA certifications mean that the pads have been tested to ensure they are as effective as the original equipment on your car.

Radiation therapy in India at Mumbai at Low price
Radiation therapy in India at Mumbai at Low price
Article by Pankaj Nagpal
Radiation therapy in India at Mumbai at Low priceWhat is radiation therapy, and how does it work ?
Tumors are made up of cells that are reproducing at abnormally high rates. Radiation therapy specifically acts against cells that are reproducing rapidly. Normal cells are programmed to stop reproducing (or dividing) when they come into contact with other cells. In the case of a tumor, this stop mechanism is missing, causing cells to continue to divide over and over. It is the DNA of the cell that makes it capable of reproducing.
Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to damage the DNA of cells, thereby killing the cancer cells, or at least stopping them from reproducing. Radiation also damages normal cells, but because normal cells are growing more slowly, they are better able to repair this radiation damage than are cancer cells.
In order to give normal cells time to heal and to reduce a patient’s side effects, radiation treatments are typically given in small daily doses, five days a week, over a six-or seven-week period. It is estimated that more than 50% of cancer patients will receive radiation at some point during their treatment.
How is radiation therapy given ?
Radiation therapy is considered to be a “local” therapy, meaning it treats a specific localized area of the body. This is in contrast to systemic therapies, such as chemotherapy, which travel throughout the body.
There are two main types of radiation therapy : -
• external radiation therapy, where a beam of radiation is directed from outside the body, and internal radiation therapy, also called brachytherapy or implant therapy, where a source of radioactivity is surgically placed inside the body near the tumor.
• External radiation may also be called x-ray therapy, cobalt therapy, proton therapy, or intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). This type of radiation is administered using a machine called a linear accelerator. Treatment can be given once or twice a day, depending on the treatment protocol being used.
Treatments are given 5 days a week for several weeks, depending on the total final dose of radiation that is planned. Patients are given a break from treatment on weekend days to give normal cells some time to heal, thus reducing side effects. A person receiving external radiation therapy is not radioactive or dangerous to the people around him or her.
Internal radiation therapy places the source of the high-energy rays inside the body, as close as possible to the cancer cells. This may be done by implanting “seeds” (small pieces of the radioactive substance) or by using an implanted reservoir, into which a liquid radioactive substance is injected. This delivers very intense radiation to a small area of the body and limits the dose to normal tissue. Internal radiation therapy allows the doctor to give a higher total dose of radiation in a shorter time than is possible with external treatments.
The radioactive substances used (also called the “radiation source”) typically include radium, cesium, iodine, and phosphorus. Depending on the substance, the implant may be temporary or permanent, although the effect wears off over time in all cases. Depending on the type of radiation source, patients with radiation implants may need to be isolated from visitors for a period of time, so as not to expose others to radioactivity.
You’ve probably seen an X-ray of your teeth or some other part of your body. At high doses – many times greater than those used for X-ray exams – radiation can kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. More than half of all cancer patients receive some radiation therapy as part of their treatment.
Side effects of Radiation therapy
Radiation therapy damages healthy cells along with the cancer cells, and this damage can cause side effects. Most of the body’s healthy cells recover after the therapy is stopped. The side effects you may get depend on your radiation dose and what body parts are treated.
Possible side effects include :-
1. Tiredness (fatigue)2. Hair loss on the treated body part3. Skin irritation like a bad sunburn on the treated body part4. Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, if the abdomen is treated 5. Mouth sores, a sore throat or dry mouth, if the head or neck is treated
These side effects usually go away within a few weeks when the treatment is finished.
There can also be long-term side effects months or years after treatment. These side effects depend on your age, how much radiation you get and what body parts are treated
Possible long-term side effects include : -
1. Damage to the lungs or other organs2. Infertility 3. Cataracts (caused by TBI)4. Delays in growth and the ability to learn for some children5. Risk of getting leukemia or other cancer years later (when given along with chemotherapy)
Beam Radiation
The most common type of radiation is known as external beam. In this technique, a large machine called a linear accelerator delivers high-energy radiation to the affected area. The linear accelerator creates high-energy radiation to treat cancers, using electricity to form a stream of fast-moving subatomic particles. You’ll receive this form of radiation as an outpatient in daily sessions over five to seven weeks, depending on your particular situation.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Usually Diagnosed In People 40 Years Old Or In The Senior Years
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Usually Diagnosed In People 40 Years Old Or In The Senior Years
Article by Connie Limon
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) develops slowly over many years sometimes before you notice symptoms such as “feeling short of breath.” Cigarette smoking is the most common cause of COPD. It can also be caused by breathing in lung irritants like pollutions, dust, or chemicals over a long period of time.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is usually diagnosed in people 40 years old or older, and is a major cause of death and illness throughout the world. In the U.S.A., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the 4th leading cause of death. There is no cure for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is not a contagious disease. Damage to airways and lungs cannot be reversed. There are only things you can do to feel better and slow the damage to your lungs.
In a healthy person airways of the lungs are clear and open and the air sacs are small, elastic, and springy. In people diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the airways and air sacs lose their shape and become floppy.
Causes of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease include:
*Cigarette smoking (most common cause)*Breathing fumes and other pollutants that irritate and damage the lungs and airways*Pipe, cigar and other types of tobacco smoking can cause COPD especially if the smoke is inhaled.*People with a family history of COPD are more likely to get the disease if they smoke*Secondhand smoke plays a role in causing COPD*Frequent, severe lung infections in childhood may increase the risk for acquiring COPD later in life
Symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease start years before the flow of air in and out of the lungs is reduced and include:
*Cough with sputum production (most common is a cough that does not go away and coughing up lots of sputum)*Shortness of breath especially with exercise*Wheezing or whistling sound when you breathe*Tightness in the chest
It is important to note that not everyone who has a cough and sputum goes on to develop chronic pulmonary obstructive disease.
A doctor looking for chronic pulmonary obstructive disease will examine you, listen to your lungs and ask you questions about your medical history. Physician questions will include what kind of lung irritants you may have been around for long periods of time and if you smoke.
A breathing test called “spirometry” may be used. It is painless and used to show how well your lungs work. Based upon this the spirometry test results, your doctor can determine if you have chronic pulmonary obstructive disease and just how severe it is. There are four levels of chronic pulmonary obstructive disease severity, they are:
*People at risk for COPD*People with mild COPD*People with moderate COPD*People with severe COPD
Goals of treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease include:
*To relieve symptoms with no or minimal side effects from the treatments*To slow progress of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease*To prevent complications from the disease*To improve overall health
The exact treatment plan for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can be different for each person and is based on whether symptoms are mild, moderate or severe.
Treatments used for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease include:
*Medications such as bronchodilators that work by relaxing the muscles around the airways to open them up and make it easier to breathe. Bronchodilators are inhaled directly into the lungs via an inhaler*Pulmonary or lung rehabilitation*Oxygen treatment*Surgery*Treatments to manage complications or sudden onset of symptoms*Pneumococcal vaccine may be recommended to prevent pneumonia*Annual flu shot to avoid breathing complications from the flu
Surgery is usually done for patients with severe symptoms that do not improve from other types of treatments, and have a hard time breathing most of the time. The two types of surgery that are considered in cases of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are:
*A bullectomy to remove a large air sac that may compress a good lung*A lung transplant
Hospitalization may be needed if:
*You have a lot of difficulty catching your breath*You have a hard time talking*Your lips or fingernails turn blue or gray

Lance Armstrong testicular cancer news spread like wild fire
Article by Vytautus
A famous cyclist, Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer. lance armstrong testicular cancer news spread like wild fire in the jungle. He was just 25 in 1996 when he found about his three stage cancer. He was on the crucial stage of the cancer as he has spread to his brain, lungs and abdomen as well. He has headache previously but when he reached doctor he was already coughing with blood. Doctors immediately ask him to undergo surgery of his painful testicular tumor in addition to chemotherapy to save his life. After surgery doctors predicted that he has only 40% chances of survival.Generally we all know people are engulfed in depression with such depressing news however on the contrast Lance Armstrong with courage undergo his surgery for the removal of big painful testicular tumor and chemotherapy immediately. Even after all this his chances of survival as per doctors suggested was not more than 40%. Armstrong proved to be a strong man as after his medical treatment started preparation of the world’s most grueling sports event that is tour de France cycling tournament. He worked hard to compete and took part in the event. People were amazed on his comeback. He came back and won the tournament as well astonishing people all over.Right after this in 1997 Lance Armstrong Foundations was established with the aim to improve the lives of the cancer survivors. All the funds are invested on the research programs proposed by the foundation. The foundation claims to spend about .4 million towards the research just to get started with things. Most of the research is going on basics of testicular cancer and on the cancer survivors’ issues. The Lance Armstrong Foundation was established in the home town of the champion that is in Austin, Texas. It is a non profitable organization; it claims to provide support to the cancer victim survivors and to their families as well. They try to spread cancer awareness as much as possible by means of different events and galas that they organize in this way they not only spread social message but also raise funds. These programs include dinners, silent auctions and etc. However the most famous is livestrong bracelet. Some people buy it as they are fashionable and look good with almost all types of dressings while some collect them for social cause that they have contributed to a social cause as well. Regardless of the buying aim, all the funds raised by this help people in either ways. According to stats there are 28 million survivors of cancer worldwide. Armstrong bracelets are either made of silicon or rubber. This bracelet is also worn to show that we are there to support you, gives patients strength and positive attitude that they are still accepted by the society. As the Lance Armstrong bracelet shows that their unity is their strength and together they can fight with anything. The Foundation believes that unity is strength and to raise money for others and to celebrates their survival.

Q&A: What should I do at this point in my life?
Question by : What should I do at this point in my life?
I’m 18 years old and just graduated high school, its only been 3 months and I feel like they have been years. I work at a grocery store making $ 7.95 an hour and I’ve been there for approx. 2 years, recieving medical and benefits as well and its union. Soon, I should be making $ 8.20 an hour due to an up coming raise. I only work 3 days a week and 15 hours a week, unfortunatly because thats all they ever give anyone except for the elderly with times as bad as they are now. I’m not sure if I want to go to college and I really dont think that college is for me but if I want to progress in my career goals I know that college is a must unless there is some sort of loop hole which i doubt. Either way, I’m giving myself a year off to think about what I want for myself. Nonetheless, I am not one of those people that if they take a year off they are more then likely not to go back. If i want to go back, I deffinatly will.
I’m going for my road test in another month. The reason why I’ve waited so long when I could have gotten it at 16 was I didnt want to pay car insurance and what not, I also didnt have the money for a car and I also wanted to save my money. I got only about a grand in the bank and I’ve made it a goal to atleast deposit $ 100/wk into my savings with the current situation I’m in now because I also pay a phone bill and we all know how pricey those can be. However, that is the only thing that I pay for as of right now and the only thing that I am able to enjoy, other then that I don’t spend my money. Infact, my grandmother even gives me $ 20 here and there because she feels bad. I also live with my grandparents right now for no charge, being fed and all. For my future goals, I plan to only have my phone, a car, and an apartment in my name for a very long time until I can figure out a way to get myself financially stable and hopefully by then the economy will start to simmer down and be a little better.
I understand that 15 hours a week is not going to cut it if I seek these future endeavors for myself. However, once I get a car, I’m planning on picking up more hours either by trying to get more hours at my current job or (more then likely) picking up another job. Note: my parents have basically abandoned me and told me that they want nothing to do with me anymore, my moms exact words were “your 18 now, i’m done.” and is never there when I need her, infact I never see her and when I call her, she never answers her phone. My parents never gave or taught me anything, I’ve done everything by myself for as long as I can remember. The one good thing I think about it is that atleast I know I’ve grown up, not that I wanted to do it this early. It’s a very depressing time for me right now and on top of it, there are alot of things that have happened in my past that has prevented me from living my childhood. I feel that at 18, I’m worried about the future too much and my responsibilities are trimendious. For me, there is no time for fun. I just recently found out that I was eligable for a 2 year contract with my cell phone and all the huge discounts that are available which means I have some what decent credit.
I also have a wonderful boyfriend of about a year who has been unemployed for over a year now and I really need him to save money and find a decent job if we plan on having any future together. Even though I understand that being dependent on a man or someone else is deffinatly not the answer which is why I’m going to make sure that I can take care of myself independently before I make any life changing decisions. However, if he’s going to move in with me, he’s going to do his part. He is training this week and is going to be working for a company who removes hazzards waste like asbestos and such which should make some decent money. I’m on a very tight budget and I feel like at my age and even along before I’ve turned 18, I’ve played the parent and my parents have played the children.
Is it very hard to believe that I am just 18 years old? I ask the very diverse citizens of yahoo, what should I do? What steps should I take to achieve what I want in life. If college does become something to consider, I wish to not spend anymore then 2 years MAYBE 4 years in college. When posting your answer, if you could, please state what you do for a job and if you feel finanically comfortable so I can begin some sort of thought process on what I’d like to do. Thanks a bunch.
sorry for the length, thought it was necessary in order to get the best answer possible. =\

Does the Canadian C3 gasmask work?
I test Canadian C3 gasmask against aerosols to see if it works. Wikipedia description of a Gasmask: A gas mask is a mask put on over the face to protect the wearer from inhaling “airborne pollutants” and toxic gases. The mask forms a sealed cover over the nose and mouth, but may also cover the eyes and other vulnerable soft tissues of the face. Some gas masks are also respirators, though the word gas mask is often used to refer to military equipment (eg Field Protective Mask, etc.) (The user of the gas mask is not protected from gas that the skin can absorb.) Airborne toxic materials may be gaseous (for example the chlorine gas used in World War I) or particulate (such as many biological agents developed for weapons such as bacteria, viruses and toxins). Many gas masks include protection from both types. During riots where tear gas or CS-gas is employed by riot police, gas masks are commonly used by police and rioters alike. Aside from serving their functional purposes, gas masks are also used as emblems in industrial music, by graffiti taggers because the mask protects them from the graffiti canister’s toxic fumes, and by Urban Explorers venturing into environments where materials such as asbestos is present. The traditional gas mask style with two small circular eye windows originated when the only suitable material for these eye windows was glass or perspex; as glass is notoriously brittle, glass eye windows had to be kept small and thick. Later, discovery of …

Around 2000 red-winged blackbirds, as well as ducks, fell to their deaths over a 1-mile area of Beebe, Arkansas on Friday night. US Environmental Services workers wore hazmat suits and gas masks as they picked up the dead birds on Sunday. An area used by the birds to roost was unaffected, leading officials to conclude that the birds could not have died from an illness or have been targeted for poisoning. Lightning, fireworks and high-altitude hail have been forwarded as possible culprits. “I’ve been to Iraq and back and not seen nothing like this,” Beebe resident Jeff Drennan told local Fox16 News on Sunday. “You know my kids are out here playing and you don’t know, is it safe?” he added. “They’re walking around with chemical suits picking them up with gas masks and everything.” In …

We’re back near the surface in the advanced test chambers again, but Wheatley has taken over. Watch as he tries to re-engineer the cubes, splicing them with the poor turret ladies. What a mess. We fart around with his inept chamber designs for five minutes, while GLaDOS tries to somehow disable the moron. He pushes us through his first two test chambers, where we deal with excursion funnels for the first time, made of liquid asbestos. Hrmmm. The tests aren’t too hard, but he seems to be getting better at making them… Full Portal 2 Single Player Playlist: www.youtube.com Full Portal 2 Co-Op Playlist: www.youtube.com Full Crysis 2 Playlist: www.youtube.com Full Fallout New Vegas Playlist: www.youtube.com Full FNV Dead Money Playlist: www.youtube.com

Was he the Worlds Greatest Overland Explorer or the Biggest Liar? Perhaps no land journey in human history is more famous than Marco Polos legendary 24-year trek across Asia. But was it all just a big lie? As described in his 1299 book, The Description of the World, the peripatetic Venetian merchant encountered such wonders as the singing sand dunes of Dunhuang, China, mountains of salt in present-day Afghanistan, and the glories of the Mongol court of Kublai Khan. Generations of Europeans were spellbound by Polos account, yet in recent years some scholars have questioned its authenticity. For an extensive three part series in National Geographic, veteran photographer Michael Yamashita put the famed Venetians reputation to the ultimate test using Polos own book as his travel guide for a journey in the celebrated explorers footsteps. Yamashita retraced Polos route across ten countries, from Venice through restricted areas in Iraq and war zones in Afghanistan, over the old Silk Road into China and back again by way of Southeast Asia and India. Along the way he encountered many landmarks and peoples documented in Polos book, deepening his conviction that Polos account is indeed authentic. Yamashita shares dazzling images and fascinating stories from his own journey to the East, while making a strong, personal case for …

Question by Lilaac: Does baby powder contain asbestos?
Is talc asbestos? I understand there is an incredient in baby powder that is detrimental to humans. Do you know what it is?
An organic farmer at our farmer’s market is using “baby powder” on the apples to keep the birds away.
The first 3 answers do not appear to have read the question. Baby powder is being sprayed on apples for market and according to the seller/farmer that is approved for “organically grown”. I could see the white residue on the fruit.

how can i tell if my shed is made from asbestos?
Question by sarah h: how can i tell if my shed is made from asbestos?
Best answer:
Answer by Dusty Boots
Hi, you cannot tell by the naked eye if the substence is asbestos or not. Their are a lot of building materials etc that look like asbestos but are not so do not take any risks eg do not break off, file, drill the board or try to test it yourself. Asbestos fibres are like small fish hooks and if they get into your respiratory system they will be there forever and in large amounts can cause serious / fatal illnesses. Best bet is to get a registered company to take a sample and provide you with a test certificate. This can be done quite cheaply ($ 75 Aust. dollars) and are listed in the telephone directory. Better to be safe than sorry !!!!
