My lungs feel like they are on fire/burning?
Question by JediMaster: My lungs feel like they are on fire/burning?
My husband and I live with my mom-she’s disabled and I take care of her full time. Both her and hubby smoke. She smokes like a chimney. My step dad, her hubby, buy her the smokes so it’s not like I can’t not buy them for her.
I have asthma, and am on two different drugs for it-Proair for short acting and I take areobid twice a day to control symptoms.
When I say something to my mom, she tells me “I’ve smoked all your life, I’m not going to quit, get off my back.” Hubby says something similar.
Short of a Dr. telling them I have stage four lung cancer with days to live and your smoking did this to her, they aren’t going to quit.
Lately, every time I’m around cigarette smoke (even smelling it can do it) I either start coughing really bad or feel like I’m going to hack up a lung. Also anytime either one of them lights up, my lungs feel like they are on fire and burning really bad.
What could be wrong?
I don’t want to have to put her in a home, don’t think my step dad would allow it anyway.
I do have a job (fast food, minumam wage kind of thing) and I only make about 600 a month. To move completly out of my apartment that I share with them is nearly impossible-there’s no where to live in my area that I can afford. I’ve looked-cheapest rent in my area for a stuido apartment is 620 a month. Not hard to figure out the math there.
I hate the burning/fire sensation I get. Is it somthing I should be concered about?
yes, hubby is working to. He makes about 800 a month. As far as looking for another job? The area we live in is such a depressed area, it took me almost 3 months to find this one. As far as only smoking in one room of the house, my mom does keep her door closed most the time-however she smokes so much that when she does open her door, the smell of smoke overwhelms me.
and as far as moving, it’s not hard finding a place where we can afford the rent, its coming up with the money to rent a truck to move, the money the new place would want in deposits, buying some funitrue like a couch and table at goodwill and stuff we can’t afford.

Wow… what a crappy situation. Your own mother and husband are killing you and don’t seem to care about it. How sad. Since you have already asked them not to smoke around you and they don’t seem to think that the are the culprits. I would say to go ahead and get a doctors note saying that the smoke is what is harming you and show that to them. If they still don’t want to stop, I would say that you threaten to put your mother in a home saying that you don’t want to jeopardize your health so that she can smoke.
Good luck to you.

How does it make you feel to know that a cheap, safe, and effective means to combat cancer has been found, but
Question by mighty.macabros: How does it make you feel to know that a cheap, safe, and effective means to combat cancer has been found, but
the FDA won’t allow it to be used because of patent issues?
The side effects are very dangerous, but it is very, VERY rare to experience them, and you should be monitored by a doctor while under treatment…..although if you are in America, no doctor can treat you with it due to legal issues. Red tape is keeping people sick.
Here is a link about the drug:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dichloroacetic_acid
Makes me really hate how greedy humans can be……
posted in religion because if you are religious you should care about your fellow man. Which is not happening in this incident.
Vicarious,
And yet they are already using it as a means to treat it in Canada. That is not a clinical test though, even if it works…
Best answer:
Answer by Cookie Monster
Stop reading Wikpedia. It is unreliable.
Exactly what patent issues is the FDA dealing with. That is not their role. Do you have any source on this other than Wikpedia?
Keep this in mind, it really is in everyone’s best interest to combat cancer because it hits everyone, including those in decision making roles in the FDA and their loved ones, and they realize that too. I really dont buy all of these conspiracy theories.

feel like im not getting enough air in my lungs?
Question by prolly234: feel like im not getting enough air in my lungs?
for 4 months now,i feel like im not getting enough oxygen into my lungs.my head feels very spaced out and sometimes i feel lifeless.i have headaches sometimes and recently my throat has been aching really badly to the point that i feel like im choking.most times especially at night,i feel like im going to die.ive been to the emergency room and i was told by the doctors that i have mild anxiety and mild anaemia.this is really botherin me because recently, the feeling of not getting enough air has become stonger and shows no signs of improvement.i also feel very weak and have loss of co-ordination sometimes.i also have mild chest pains.my eyes also feels tired and i feel pressure inmy brain sometimes.plzzz,i need to be sure this is only anxiety and not some serious ailment.

Answer by JW
I have been going through the same experience. I understood that I had developed anxiety after having an anaphylactic allergic reaction while on a bus on the highway, but the breathing issues (feeling like a I had a lack of oxygen, constantly taking deep breaths with little satisfaction, constant yawning, and dizziness) didn’t add up. I went through a lot of tests: for asthma, a gastroscopy, and an ultrasound. The doctor’s just prescribed me an inhaler and sent me on my way.
I suggest you look up articles on Chronic Hyperventilation Syndrome and see if the symptoms apply to you. It is not a serious ailment and there are no medications that can help you with this issue. It can be a product of the anxiety from hyperventilating, but breathing techniques, yoga, meditation are all suggested to help with this problem.
If you need to go onto a medication to take the edge off from the anxiety, a doctor may prescribe something like rivotril or xanax in small doses as needed when you’re feeling anxious, but I seriously suggest looking up articles on CHS because that is one syndrome that doctor’s tend to overlook!! I am still learning to deal with my symptoms, but it has really helped to ease my mind and know that I am getting the oxygen I require, I just may be getting too much!!

Q&A: Did my grandmother feel pain from her cancer before she died?
Question by : Did my grandmother feel pain from her cancer before she died?
My grandmother died January 22 2011 and I have been worried ever since. It sounds stupid but I want to know if she was in pain when she was passing or if she felt pain during her time with cancer.
She was misdiagnosed with Asthma when she had issues breathing, and later when her breathing worsened she went in, chewed the doctor out and discovered she was being attacked by Lung Cancer that had metastasized to the rest of her body (Stomach, Esophagus,Brain, Kidneys, her bones, etc) it spread everywhere. And she was in Stage 4. They gave her hope and said they can try a new tactic of Chemo but even the doctor said it would give her a month or so more life than she was going to have. It was just done for money, little more. But she held onto the hope and passed away thinking she was going to be fine.
My question is….was she in pain when the cancer was in her body? Is there any pain associated with that?
And on the night she died, she was sitting in her chair one moment and then her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she began breathing like a fish out of water but wouldn’t respond to us. Just difficult, labored breathing. I was told to talk to her because her body was shutting down and I was told that in that situation, a persons hearing is the last to go. Was this correct? Or was it some ill attempt for her passing to be easier and make me think any words of mine were being heard by her.
Please help. I just want to know if in reality she honestly did hear me and if she was in any pain at all.

I am so sorry for your loss. From your description, it sounds like she passed with very little pain. She was very lucky to have you by her side as she passed – it sounds like you love her very much, and it must have been comforting to hear your voice as she began to shut down.
There is no way to know for sure if she heard everything you said or not, but if you believe in the soul and/or heaven than I am sure she knows what you said and that she knows how much you care for her.
I wish I could make it easier for you. *Hugs

How do you feel when your patients get sick – cancer or die of old age?
Question by parenting is an option II: How do you feel when your patients get sick – cancer or die of old age?
We have about 7 patients with breast cancer currently, and a 89 year old patient that just passed away. It seems like just yesterday we seen him and his wife walking into the clinic with a cane. They came almost once a week until they moved into a retirement home which my doctor called over there to make sure they were getting their medications. He was so sweet. The patients with breast cancer are so sweet. I feel bad for them. It seems like everybody is getting sick.
How do you deal with patients getting seriously sick?
Best answer:
Answer by C C
You have to understand in your heart that there is both life and death in the universe and that this is the way of nature. It is true that it feels unfair when young people especially die, although that doesn’t make it any easier when you love the older ones. You have to live each day at a time and cherish the ones you love for you never know what may happen. Those who get ill need you to be there, be kind to them, and make their passing as comfortable as you can. And always do unto others…it’s very true, for each of us, but not all, will be sick or old at some point in life. Always treat the elderly or ill as if they were a member of your family for in a way, they are.

My mom’s cancer has come back, I feel so helpless, how can I help her?
Question by speedviper007: My mom’s cancer has come back, I feel so helpless, how can I help her?
I am absolutely devastated. Today I found out that my mom’s cancer has returned. She previously had breast cancer which had spread to 2 lymph nodes but she has been cancer free for over a year and now it has come back to her lungs. This is the worst news I could have ever imagined as my mom is the nicest person in the world. I don’t know what to do, I feel so helpless and horrible for her. I know that if it has spread to her lungs the chances are not good and I am scared. My biggest concern is, how can I help her. For anyone who has been in this situation before please tell me what I can do for her… I am there for her but it doesn’t feel like enough. I hate feeling so helpless. Is there any research I can do for her and present to her? What about experimental drugs? I don’t care about the costs I just want her to get better. What are her odds? I know many people who have cancer spread to the lungs can live for several years, but are they always in remission or can someone become cancer-free after getting lung cancer? The cancer may also have spread to her liver or bones… this is so difficult to watch.
Best answer:
Answer by Koko
Don’t show her you are helpless and there is nothing that can be done. Be reasonable.. but don’t panic. Even if chances are small, there are still small chances that she can get over this. Be with her and be strong, this way your positive attitude will help her. Never give up.
If the doctors can’t help her, research about natural medicine. There are cases that some people got better with the help of herbs, etc.
Even if it doesn’t work out.. you will know that you was there for your mom and fought to the last minute.
On the other hand if she will make it you will be the happiest person knowing that you never gave up.
There are several sites you can find on the internet, books…

What does a smokers cough feel like?
Question by Carol: What does a smokers cough feel like?
Best answer:
Answer by julie d
Well, unfortunately I can answer this question for you as I have smoked for over 30 years and need to quit, but can’t seem to. As a smoker, I often get a sore throat. I have a dry hacking cough during the day, and a deeper cough at night. When I wake up, it feels like my lungs are tight and I cough hard and a lot of mucus comes up. Also, I am short of breath quite often and when I laugh there is a hoarseness to it. This scares me, because my dad died from smoking and in the end stages of lung disease you literally die from drowning in all of that mucus that is stuck in your lungs and you can’t cough it up.
If you haven’t tried smoking yet, PLEASE don’t! It is so hard to quit and so deadly. I wish I had never started.

How do you feel about the concept of “deserving”?
Question by : How do you feel about the concept of “deserving”?
I was thinking deeply about this today…..
For instance:
Does a beautiful woman “deserve” special attention/treatment b/c of the genetics she was born with?
Does a man who works out regularly and eats a healthy diet “deserve” to have a fit body?
Does a man who has lots of $ in the bank “deserve” beautiful women? Does it make a difference if he earned it or inherited it?
Does someone who smokes 3 packs of cigarettes a day for many years “deserve” to get lung cancer?
Do women “deserve” special concessions and breaks, based on possible injustices women long dead might have endured?
Does a man “deserve” common courtesy and respect when he approaches a woman and risks rejection?
What are your personal thoughts on deserving?
Best answer:
Answer by Neo
I don’t like the term “deserve.” I prefer use the word “earn” instead.
The smoker earned cancer.
The man earned money

Answer by A=alyze
By this wall of text i imagine you are fixating on small details. When people get excited cortisol is released, and sometimes due to stress. It can lead to you fixating on details that can’t be analyzed to find a solution that will calm you down. Focus on how youre feeling and behaving and whether its realistic what youre feeling. The feeling wont vanish right away if you realize the anxiety is unfounded. But keep it in the back of your mind, breathe deeply and it should calm down in 10-15 minutes.

Even if you don’t, it does not mean you are unworthy of an answer. You deserve answers to your questions as much as any other question. I have wanted to answer questions before but didn’t because I was afraid I would be mocked for my answer since I am not an expert on it but had some kind of info to share.
