From San Diego, dietary supplements, particularly those aimed at cancer prevention, are not well-regulated, and do not undergo the same rigorous testing that medicines face. Very few randomized controlled trials (the gold standard in evidence-based medicine) have shown any cancer prevention benefits from dietary supplements, while some dietary supplements have even been shown to increase cancer risk. The research commentary published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, highlights the misconception that supplements are healthy at best, and harmless at worst. These misconceptions underscore the important need to either better regulate the supplement industry, or to aid people in making prudent decisions based on evidence rather than advertising. From Ann Arbour, global smoking prevalence is projected to drop by a mere 1.7% by 2030 unless World Health Organisation tobacco control measures are adopted. The WHO measures, known as MPOWER, consist of tobacco use monitoring, Protection from second hand smoke, assisting people in overcoming addiction, warning about the dangers of smoking, enforcing tobacco advertising regulations, and increased taxation on tobacco products. Smoking kills in excess of 5 million people annually, more than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. Speaker Bio: Dr. Varga is an internationally recognized expert in the diagnosis, treatment, and study of scleroderma. He is the Director of the Northwestern Scleroderma Program and the John and Nancy Hughes Professor in the Division of Rheumatology. Among numerous professional distinctions, he chairs the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board of the Scleroderma Foundation and is also a Scleroderma Research Foundation-funded research investigator. Since 1998, he has served on various National Institutes of Health Study Section panels. He was recognized as one of 50 “Heroes” of the Arthritis Foundation and was the Scleroderma Foundation’s “Doctor of the Year” in 2006. Dr. Varga is leading high-impact basic and clinical research, and directs an NIH-funded research laboratory at Northwestern. A prolific researcher and author, he has published more than 160 original research articles, along with 60 review articles, multiple book chapters, and three books on fibrosis and scleroderma. i was at the allstate 400 at the brickyard. my girlfriend tried her best to find out how i could meet jimmie johnson. i have lung cancer.a security guard told us that jeff and jimmie works with make a wish foundation. the security guard told us if we could find jeff and tell him what we were wanting and why that jeff would make it happen.unfortunately we could not find jeff. so if you know how i can contact jeff i would appreciate any help anyone can give me. thanks i will be waiting. pam

I have a work related lung disease that has progressed to Pulmonary Fibrosis. At times I feel so useless just sitting at home doing nothing. I would like to help shine some light on the lung disease Pulmonary Fibrosis. This is the same disease that Evel Kinevel died from. I also have this disease. My disease started out as Hypersensistive Pneumonitis and has progressed to Pulmonary Fibrosis. I sit at home every day on oxygen feeling so useless . I would just like to feel useful once again. I won my work comp case after 2.5 years, but now I sit waiting(almost 3 years total) for appeal while my wife work 2 jobs now for the last 3 years as we wait for work comp. I need to do something to feel useful. Hence, if I can help others that suffer with this disease by shedding some light on Pulmonary Fibrosis by getting OCC choppers to build a bike I would feel a little more uesful.

You would do far better to work with one of the established research foundations to set up and carry through a project in your brother’s name for them.
Ask the hospital where he was treated, for example.
