Hi I am 14 years old and my mom has stage four breast cancer. She just went for a scan and it has been at a stan still for awhile now. She has little spots around her lungs, but they shrunk with the chemo. So its not big but its still stage four. I heard that she really only has like 5 years to live from some websites. Is this true??? How long could people really live with this. She gets a scan every 3 months and if its active she goes for chemo. It hasnt become active yet. But can someone please give me some more info on it.

A second or third opinion is always useful as not all doctors are as skilled in one area as in the next .. so a second or third set of eyes may turn up more treatment options . . or not.
Ask your current hospital or doctor for copies of all medical records relating to the cancer. Ask for copies of all tests, especially CT, PET or MRI . .. you can have all this made into a CD that can be sent to the doctor or which you take to the doctor.

About four months ago my lung spontaneously collapsed and within 12 hours i had a chest tube put in and major lung surgery. Now four months later i am on 7 or so medications for various things and am still having pain. The meds are also causing some side effects such as pain in my joints and hearing loss. I am relatively healthy and am happy most of the time but lately i have been really tired and when i am alone i feel like i am slipping into a depression and just want to sleep forever. am i depressed? what should i do?

you should see someone about your depression. bring it up with your doctor. it’s possible your medications are having an unforeseen side effect because of their combination.

How does this happen to such a young person? Cancer really is a silent killer – she had no idea until she collapsed in an airport last week. I would like to know what the survival chances are for stage 4 cancer victims?? =(

I know someone that has had pancreatic cancer for about 4 years and had undergone chemotherapy. Around last year this person went into remission and recently, it came back. I have heard about patients in PDT and it worked for them but they were in the early stages of the cancer. Will PDT work for someone that has about 2 weeks to live?

In most cases people do not die of pancreatic cancer, it is when it has spread to somewhere else which is usually the bones and when that happens it is usually very quick before they die.

before chemo and radiotherapy, a better part of tumor had to remove by surgery.
All these process can prolong the life span but can’t save the life.

Does he smoke? He can help himself by not smoking.
Stage four is pretty advanced cancer. It means it’s already spread to other organs. Your uncle needs superior medical care, like chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment for his entire body.

Common side effects include:
Diarrhea
Rash occurs in the majority of patients. This resembles acne and primarily involves the face and neck. It is self-limited and resolves in the majority of cases, even with continued use. Interestingly, some clinical studies have indicated a correlation between the severity of the skin reactions and increased survival though this has not been quantatively assessed.
Loss of appetite
Fatigue
Rarely, interstitial pneumonitis, which is characterized by cough & increased dyspnea. This may be severe and must be considered among those patients whose breathing acutely worsens.

My wife was diagnosed with lung cancer,stage four,right after Christmas.We are now almost finished with radiation to a large tumor,4cm that has ate through her cranium.Most of that mass is external,but after PET scan we have three tumors in one lung,one a large mass with internal necrosis(sp),several (5) small lesions in her liver and her lymph nodes are affected,unknown quantity but started out to be two of them.There is also a mass on her spine causing back pain,some days worse than others.What kind of life expectancy are we facing here?I have heard the terms quality of life and how well she deals with the chemo.But no one will tell me and I hate to ask while my wife is sitting there with me.Everyonne is trying to keep her up beat,and sheis doing a wonderful job,but with no insurance I am going to have to make some serious decisions here,any help is greatly appreciated,Robert

No one can give you an estimate time on your dad’s life. Every individual is different and every persons body reacts differently. In the meantime it would be good for your dad to try and keep his nutrition healthy and he might even try anti-oxidants to help slow down the process of the cancer spreading. Anti- oxidants bind with free radicals and definetly helps to slow down the process. Your dad’s condition is serious and advanced. Prepare yourself and accept the fact that he has this disease and ensure spending lots of time with him.Prevention is always better than cure
