ok so i have to write an essay and i need some ideas i have already decided that i think the government should provide routine cancer screenings but i need some ideas for what kinda of screenings (skin, lung) and any info on stats of deaths or on the most common cancer (i live in florida so fl stats are good) thanks

Why should the government have to pay for it? Do you want the government to pay for your next car too? Its your body, your responsibility. The government should not have to pay for it.

Miracles can happen. 50 year old woman Cancer Free after diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer
Sofia Tavars ,age 50, was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer in December of 2011. Her chance of living was 6% of which she would only live 5 years if she was among the 6%. However her case is different, SHE FOUND IT EARLY by accident in a chest x-ray for bronchitis. She was on top of the her medical issues changing doctors who were too slow and hospital who did not return her messages. She found the right doctor who found that a tomour was about to enter the lower section of her brain. If she started her chemo and radiation a week later she would have brain cancer. If not for her courage and diligence Sofia would not be with us today. Sofia smoked cigarettes for 30 years and stopped only when she was diagnose with the aggressive cancer. She is now cancer free and in remission. Unfortunately, Sofia’s son ( my best friend) took up cigarettes when he was 13 years old and will not quit even after his own mother’s experiences. A volunteer doctor, when asked about the difference between Third World conditions and those in Los Angeles, responded, “Here the people speak English.”
According to local press accounts, among those seeking help at the clinic were:

• An unemployed grocery clerk needing a root canal
• A laid-off auto mechanic with back pain
• A laid-off office worker uninsured for two years
• A cancer patient who had exhausted her benefits under her HMO plan

New research from a team including several Carnegie scientists demonstrates that a specific small segment of RNA could play a key role in the growth of a type of malignant childhood eye tumor called retinoblastoma. The tumor is associated with mutations of a protein called Rb, or retinoblastoma protein. Dysfunctional Rb is also involved with other types of cancers, including lung, brain, breast and bone. Their work could result in a new therapeutic target for treating this rare form of cancer and potentially other cancers as well.

Hi everyone, so my husband was dx with Hodgkins Lymphoma in march and then underwent chemotherapy until July. He had a pet scan in august that was negative and he just had a pet scan tuesday and he got the results from them but we wont be able to see the doctor until January because the doctor had to go out of town. Can someone help me out understanding his ct scan results? thanks
1. Stable very small right lower lobe pulmonary nodule which is unchanged since 28 February 2011. Repeat chest CT in 6-12 months is recommended.2. Small amount of nonspecific free fluid in the pelvis, increased from prior study.3. Otherwise, unremarkable CT of the chest, abdomen and pelvis. No evidence of recurrent lymphoma or other acute abnormalities.
4. Slight interval enlargement and increased mild metabolic activity in a
single right axillary lymph node, likely reactive or inflammatory. Tumor is thought less likely.5. Otherwise, stable PET/CT examination without evidence of active malignancy.
I know most people on here are not doctors but I am nervous about the free fluid in his pelvis and the slight lymph node enlargement and maybe some people have an explanation of what it could possibly mean. Like I said we will be going to the doctor but not until January.

I’m aware the a professional free divers lung capacity can fall to about 90% of it’s normal total lung capacity during a very deep dive. I am keen to find out what happens to the structure and function of the lungs when the lung capacity is reduced by this much?

The lungs are essentially a balloon which collapses as it is compressed. The chest also has elasticity which allows it also to compress when going to depth.

My sister (60) got 6x5x5cm size lung adenosquamouscarcinoma and has had lobectomy operation. Part (1/2) of her left lung was took away successfuly. For the next, she must take 1 tablet Iressa every day for the rest of he life. The price of Iressa is very very very expensive for her and for me and all of my sisters & brother who will support her. We can afford for some months, but after that is big question. Her life is no more than 1 year, said the doctors. Are there foundations or wise persons who can give me information about cheap ones or hopefully have unused excessive ones and will donate them? Thank you very much.
