Bernie Mac Hospitalized In Chicago With Pneumonia
CHICAGO – Bernie Mac is in a Chicago hospital with pneumonia.
His publicist, Danica Smith, says in a statement that the 50-year-old comedian is responding well to treatment and should be released soon. He remained hospitalized Saturday.
Smith says the pneumonia isn’t related to an inflammatory lung disease that Mac also has. That condition has been in remission since 2005.
Mac is a Chicago native who lives in the southern suburbs. He made waves last month with off-color jokes during a Chicago fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Q&A: Have you or someone close to you ever died from cancer or any other deadly illness?
Question by Misty S: Have you or someone close to you ever died from cancer or any other deadly illness?
If so what is your story? how did you get through it or how did they? How was your outlook or there outlook on life and how did they or do they get through it?
Best answer:
Answer by Memory
You get through it one day at a time. It’s hard for the person who is sick and also hard for the relatives. At first one feels anger and sort of let down. But with time all that goes away. You learn to accept it. At first it’s best to keep yourself occupied, it will distract you from dwelling on negative thoughts. But as the days and weeks go by, it gets easier. But there is no fast way of getting over it.

What did Obama mean when he spoke of chronic Illness?
Question by Mick Jaguar: What did Obama mean when he spoke of chronic Illness?
And that some sort of panel to advise people since the cost of chronic illness and end of life illness consumed a huge proportion of medical costs. Twice I’ve seen these quotes, but does he even once combine the two terms, thereby conveniently leaving the door open to gosh only knows what. He was originally speaking of his grandmother and her co-morbid conditions, so it would be expected that the phrase he spoke would be , people which chronic multiple conditions that are near the end of their lives, but he didn’t. I can’t imagine this was as accident as we all know how craftily he prepares his speech. Was this an ignorant oversight, or was is an attempt to mislead. Here is a list of chronic illness’s Chronic fatigue syndrome
Chronic osteoarticular diseases: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis
Chronic respiratory diseases: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma
Chronic renal failure
Diabetes mellitus
Chronic hepatitis
Autoimmune diseases, like ulcerative colitis, lupus erythematosus
Cardiovascular diseases: heart failure, ischemic cardiopathy, cerebrovascular disease
And there are plenty more. The real jist of it all is to how much each ailment robs the public coffers.

No need to focus on the details of any government controlled health care plan. Its a bad idea to give governments this power regardless of how good any plan sounds.
Its really no different then you giving me control over your care. You have no idea what you’ll get.

Did you know that there are all-natural, nondrug, nonsurgical cures for almost every illness & disease?
Question by ivoryrose09: Did you know that there are all-natural, nondrug, nonsurgical cures for almost every illness & disease?
Humans have evolved in, with, and around nature, so doesn’t it make sense that it is not natural for us to get sick? We Americans are being brainwashed into believing that being sick is normal. IT ISN’T! And so doesn’t it make sense that if we do get sick, the ways of mother nature are the only ways to heal ourselves purely and without any side effects? Wonder why animals never get cancer, sclerosis, diabetes, etc? Because they don’t take pills which actually do more harm than healing in the long term. In this day and age, humans are more sick that ever! Oh yes, it’s true. People years ago were better off because they didn’t have the gov’t telling them to take drugs to feel better! We humans are still animals, smart animals yes, but we’re too smart for our own good. We have become too technology-dependent. Most of you think you’re healthy, but you have no idea just how AWESOME you can feel when you’ve purged your body of poisons and restored yourself to the way you should be.

Questions about my terminal illness…?
Question by Cyril: Questions about my terminal illness…?
Hello,
I am a 25 year old male with pulmonary fiborsis. I have approx. 3-5 years left to live. I am handling it ok and haven’t needed anti-depressants yet. I have been a white rights activist for some time and the pain I’ve endured watching my race die out outweighs this illness, I think I’m conditioned enough to deal with it calmly and realise we all die and it is what we did in life that counts. My family isn’t handling it so well. I have 2 questions:
1. How can I convince my family that I am happy with my life and this isn’t the end of the world. They seem to worry 24/7 that I’m miserable, yet I only worry about their sadness, not me dying, how can I convince them I honestly feel that way?
2. Is all lung scarring considered to be pulmonary fibrosis? In other words, in pulmonary fibrosis once the lung is scarred the scars grow until you can no longer process oxygen. Is there such a thing as a permnanent lung scar which is NOT pulmonary fibrosis (doesn’t grow)?
Thank you

Can a cat scan monitor the effects of schizophrenia or another mental illness on an individuals brain?
Question by : Can a cat scan monitor the effects of schizophrenia or another mental illness on an individuals brain?
I was curious if any sort of cat scan or brain X-ray shows any thing different with an individual with a mental illness such as schizophrenia or paranoia compared to someone who was completely normal. Sort of Like a chest X-ray can pick up lung cancer but the same thing with a mental illness. Does any machine pick it up?
Best answer:
Answer by Carter
a mental illness can not be picked up by some machine. diagnosing mental illness is based on observation of how one acts and the symptoms they are displaying, and medication is largely guesswork, a medicine that may work for one person with a certain mental illness may make another person with the same mental illness worse.

What kind of illness could my mother have?
Question by Meredith H: What kind of illness could my mother have?
Her symptoms for the past few days have been:
A sore throat in various areas, two quite large cold sores (appeared on the same day, but they may not be related to the illness), a cold, coughing, burning lungs, wheezing, headaches, dizziness, faintness, vomiting, chills, and she’s lethargic.
It could be something as simple as a stomach flu or cold, but I’d just like to clarify and she absolutely refuses to see the doctor (due to a phobia).
Any ideas on what she might have?
Best answer:
Answer by nursienurse
She may have the flu or pneumonia or both. It isn’t something simple with all these symptoms. Have you taken her temp? With chills and a headache it is probable that she has a fever.
Take her to an Urgent Care where there are no doctors, just PAs or Nurse Practitioners. It sounds like she may have had a virus (cold sores) but now has complications that may require an antibiotic, chest x-ray and maybe IV fluids. If she isn’t seen soon she may have to be hospitalized.

Lung Cancer or other major illness?
Question by Jamere: Lung Cancer or other major illness?
I am an 18 year old male who has smoked about 3 packs of cigarettes a week. I work, go to school, and I also have been helping my aunt repaint her house recently. I was extremely sore after repainting the entire basement by myself. I also mop an entire store at work 3 times a week. My chest, my arms, and my shoulders were extremely sore. This was 2 weeks ago. I still feel dull pain in my arms and shoulders, not to mention a sharp pain in my sternum area in my chest. One second, it would be on the left side, then it will occur on the right side. I sleep on a couch that is not straight and has many irregular lumps and dents in it. I often get back pains too. I do not cough, wheeze, or have any excess mucus or phlegm. Ive visited the doctor today, and had a chest x-ray. I am waiting on the doctor to call me back with the results. Do you think that I might have lung cancer? I am not a heavy smoker at all, and i only smoke black and milds which might be equivalent to 2-3 packs of cigarettes a week. My biceps, and shoulders still sore. Do you think that I am still sore from using my muscles more than i regularly would? Or do you think that the chest pain and the soreness could be tied to lung cancer? Please give me some advice. I am worried.

How do you effectively deal with lung inflammation/respiratory illness?
Question by the who: How do you effectively deal with lung inflammation/respiratory illness?
If you want to recover as fast as possible, decrease your chances of complications and making things worse, and if you have to go out and about and do things, what could you take, which will decrease symptoms? This applies to people who get colds/flus/allergies, sometimes worse like bronchitis/etc, who have to put up with that debilitating inflammation/soreness in their chest, stuffed up nose/airways, which makes breathing and doing anything much tougher.
What are the better drugs, over the counter or prescription to take, should we really cut down on activity on those days, and what’s the real deal on all of that?
Thanks.
Best answer:
Answer by GEHAN
Garlic and ginseng, olive leaf extract, no sugar, mineral magnesium in magnesium oxide all help the body fight infection, even viruses, not just bacteria.
Vitamin C and tomato juice, lots of it, a whole large can in one day can often be just what the body needs to significantly knock out a cold or flu within one day. The lycopene within the processed tomatoes is one reason. For those who struggle with urinary tract infections some have issues with acidity of the blood so that they are wise to monitor their intake of that which raises their blood acidity.
Sleep is necessary to allow the body optimum strength to the immune system.
For those who are bedridden, they should be changing positions from side to side.
Some people elevate the head of the bed.
Impacting oneself mildly on the middle of the high chest under the collar bone will help clear the lungs and promote a good cough.
Over activity when the body is experiencing flu is reportedly hard on the heart. The tired feeling is partially due to the body redirecting its energies to concentrate on fighting the infection and should be catered to by resting. Frequent naps are great.
Artificial fevers induced by hot baths can be beneficial in raising the body temperature as long as care is taken to not have the body temperature go too high. At 101 degree Fahrenheit the white blood cells of the body are optimum for protecting you and most pathogens inside the human body lose the ability to reproduce at that elevated temperature. This is why a mild fever is usually left without a temperature reducing medicine by competent doctors.
People with restricted blood circulation such as some diabetics should take care to not damage their tissues with too hot of water. (Insulin use over time damages the blood vessels, a result that can often be lessened by the regular use of the herb bilberry, also lessening chances of diabetic retinopathy)
If an antibiotic is being taken follow all doctors directions carefully and finish the medication the full days prescribed so as to not develop a “super infection” which is resistant to antibiotics.
Olive leaf extract has a natural substance called oleuropein. This substance has such a wide range of pathogens that it kills even the pathogen causing strept throat. 6-8 % is recommended for those not regularly taking olive leaf extract. It kills so many different pathogens that you should take care to not overload the liver with dead matter processing.
Some find daily insertion of isopropyl alcohol into the ears can prevent complication of ear infection. 70% solution should be adequate. Some cheap products only contain 50 %, and I would not waste my money on them.
Ample intake of good water helps the body rid itself of waste and lessen body aches.
Some people have a problem of fluid from the stomach coming up and irritating the respiratory system. If this is true, elevating the head of the bed and eating NO chocolate can help. Chocolate apparently over relaxes the muscle keeping the fluid within the stomach. Over eating aggravates this situation. Radishes are the most effective natural prevention to indigestion and heartburn that I have found.

Will I get lung cancer or other illness by working at a Chinese restaurant?
Question by westernshippers: Will I get lung cancer or other illness by working at a Chinese restaurant?
I work at a Chinese restaurant 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, as a cook, and I cook behind the wok most of the time, and I see my surrounding stuff, such as the counter, food container, my cup, etc, would get greasy after a while(maybe couple days), there are a lot of oil involved in the cooking, so I thought it probably gets heated and then evaporated into the surrounding, so I figure I must have breathed in a lot of grease, into my lung, and I’m worried if I could get lung cancer or other bad stuff, or will my body get rid of the grease by itself, hence it is not harmful at all? Because I heard people that works at coal mine will breathe in a lot of tar, and they are very likely to get cancer, what about me?
Best answer:
Answer by vara prasada rao
Appreciable in caring yourself. Why don’t you cut down the hours of work. If you are such essential, you can swift to another work. Minimum hours of work for any employment is only 6 hours. Volatile fumes, oils and coal tar most of them bears pyrolignous acid which is not good for breath. Go to parks etc., to change of air in other time from profession. Try to limit the working hours. Demand some better professional safe guards such as exist fans etc., at kitchen from your employer. Get aid from labour authorities for better employment protections as available to you by law.

Q&A: How can I bring joy and laughter to someone who just got diagnosed with a terminal illness?
Question by irishlad582: How can I bring joy and laughter to someone who just got diagnosed with a terminal illness?
A close family member just got diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer (it’s in her lung, her kidney and her lymph nodes). She was told by the doctor that it was treatable but not curable. Her husband past away 2 days after she was put in the hospital for her illness. We are all taking it one day at a time but we are mainly focused on her getting better and out of the hospital. I want to send her some cards (she lives in another state) and wanted to put in some quotes to make her smile/laugh.
If anyone has had experience with this and understand that it’s the family that goes through this as well- please give me advice on what to do, and just ideas to keep her spirits up. We love this woman very much and we are determined to get her better and have her beat this!
Best answer:
Answer by fallibledragon
Best thing you can do is talk to her realistically, without hiding from the problem. Cheering her up is good, but the last thing she needs is people being TOO happy or too sad, or pretending there’s nothing to discuss. When she’s accepted it, and she knows those around her have been able to accept it, and that their relationship with her hasn’t changed because of it (or hasn’t changed for the worse, at least), then she’ll be happy enough to laugh naturally. People often deal with terminal illnesses better than their relatives and friends do.
