How do I convince my daughter to go back to school after having 2 severe illnesses?
Question by Sugar: How do I convince my daughter to go back to school after having 2 severe illnesses?
My daughter is 7 years old and is in Grade 2. She has been in school systems since she was 3. She has ALWAYS loved school. She is an A student and barely misses any days from school. Her Grade 1 year she only missed 3 days that whole year. But this year she has become very ill. She started with regular colds in September that she didn’t take time off of school for, but 2 weeks before Christmas she caught a gastro flu and she ended up in the ER after a week of the illness going away. She was fine after that and went back to school. She made it through the Christmas holidays with nothig, but she became sick after only one week back to school. This time she had a respitory illness (most likely H2N3?). She had a very high fever and 3 different docs at a clinic didn’t want to give her antibiotics. They did xrays, but the doctor couldn’t see the white spot that I seen on her lung. I brought her back 2 days later to be told that a radiologist looked at the xray and diagnosed pneumonia and ear infection. She missed nearly 2 weeks of school. I brought her back this past Monday, she came home crying that there are sick kids still in class and she frightened that she is going to catch something else. I feel the same, but I try play down that she will catch anything else. I can’t blame her for being so scared, but today she fought me all the way to the school and the secretary and to drag her to class. Never in 4 years have I seen her so upset. She won’t eat her lunch and snack for her anxiety is so high that she can’t eat. I don’t know what to do to calm her, I seriously have tried everything. Is there more to this than just scared of flu’s? Does my child suffer with anxiety. I know her father’s mother had/has severe anxiety. She is scared to leave the house. Is it genetic? My daughter is begging me not to take her to school tomorrow and give a day of rest at home. I know she has fully not recovered from the pneumonia, but I believe is will enough to go to school. Than she told me she just simply “hates school”. This is so not like my daughter, she loves school. I want to keep her home tomorrow, but I’m afraid now that the school knows that she is feeling like this that they may just call children’s aid thinking that something must be going on at home. I want to get into see her doctor but it takes a week for in. What can I do for her? Does she need therapy for her fears? Please help!
We live in Ontario where there has been an outbreak of viruses. She has missed 3.5 weeks of school in 6 weeks, so taking her out of school for another 2 weeks is not an option. She is also only 7. She seems to be more traumatized by her severe illnesses and is fearing that she may become ill again. She went back on Monday and Tuesday, and is more scared because the kids in her class are coughing and one is coughing so much that he has almost vomited several times. I am more concerned at our school system. Why would a school allow any child to come to school when they are so obviously sick and contagious? Almost every child in my daughters class has been sick. They just keep passing it to each other. Some of these recent flu’s are killing people, so I feel it should be taken more seriously. Parents are sending their children to school when they are ill and giving it to other children. Some children are getting beyond sick., like my daughter. So I feel that my child has been a

Preventing Illnesses and Diseases with Vitamin C
www.youtube.com www.encognitive.com Vitamin C – The Most Essential Nutrient Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is a vitamin only because it is a nutrient essential for life that is not manufactured in the body and must be obtained from outside sources. Every living thing on this planet except primates (Including man) and guinea pigs produce their own Vitamin C internally, do not require it in their diet, and do not suffer from a host of diseases and maladies caused by Vitamin C deficiencies. Vitamin C is manufactured internally from glucose by a four-step process, each requiring a specific enzyme. Humans have the first three enzymes but the fourth is damaged and non functional apparently from a genetic mutation that occurred in our distant ancestors. It seems that we really have a species wide genetic disease. Perhaps fixing this genetic defect should be a primary goal for the genetic engineers of this century. There is a fifth step in vitamin C cycle, the conversion of ascorbic acid into mineral ascorbates in the liver. The price of vitamin C deficiency is staggering. Mammals with the enzyme can live 8-10 times their maturity age. Mammals without it have a hard time living to 3-4 times their maturity age. Therefore, if humans had the gene to make their own vitamin C, the human life span could be more like 300 years. Humans have cardiovascular disease and arthritis while other mammals do not. Humans are also more susceptible to viruses and infections than animals with their own …

Question by Dr. Blue Frog, PhD: Are disease & other illnesses like cancer, depression, etc. really more prevalent now or ….?
is it just now that we know what they look like?
A better way to phrase this might be: Are there really more cases being diagnosed or is just that now we have a correct diagnosis but it was just misdiagnosed in the past (example: Lung cancer was once diagnosed as consumption)?
Best answer:
Answer by Patricia C
No they’re not. And they weren’t misdiagnosed in the past. People live longer now so more of them get cancer.
About depression, that’s a different story. Eons ago when a person was obviously clinically depressed they were referred to as Crazy. My mother used to say that anybody who went to a psychiatrist was crazy.

Goji Juice helps cure Lupus, Cancer, and other illnesses
A powerful testimony on how Himalayan Goji Juice and GoChi™Juice helped Miss Annabelle Labitag cured with her Lupus desease. What is Lupus? Lupus is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue. This results in symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, and damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart, and lungs. Under normal function, the immune system makes proteins called antibodies in order to protect and fight against antigens such as viruses and bacteria. Lupus makes the immune system unable to differentiate between antigens and healthy tissue. This leads the immune system to direct antibodies against the healthy tissue – not just antigens – causing swelling, pain, and tissue damage. Caring For The Elderly: Senior Illnesses And What They Mean To You

As we get older, we all become more susceptible to illnesses, diseases and ailments that may render us incapacitated in some way, shape or form. In some cases we may not even recover from them. It is a sad fact, but we will all eventually shake hands with the very thing that is going to kill us. However, that is not to say that all senior illnesses are incurable. In fact, there are very few that are untreatable. If you happen to be a caregiver and look after a senior on a daily basis, then there are various diseases that you may actually come into contact with and learn how to cope with via that individual. It can be difficult watching someone you care about succumb to illness at any age, but with seniors it is inevitable. A little bit of background knowledge can help to prepare you for the worst, so here is a quick guide to senior illnesses:
CANCER – Over two thirds of all seniors are affected by cancer at some point in their lives. Some forms of cancer are more common than others. Lung and breast cancer are the most common forms as found in seniors, but skin cancer also puts in an appearance in the top senior afflictions list. Cancer can be treated with great effect these days but the older the sufferer is, the more the odds of a full recovery are cut. After all, how many eighty years olds are strong enough to come through a course of chemotherapy? Any form of cancer must be caught early if a patient is to stand any chance of recovery so bodily abnormalities must be checked out by a medical professional as soon as they are discovered.
DEMENTIA – A high number of seniors also suffer from dementia. There are many forms of dementia, but they all stem from decreasing brain activity owing to degradation and resultant damage to the connections between the brain and nerve endings in the body. The cause of dementia is not known and there can be little done to effectively treat it, although some drugs do hols off the symptoms for a while. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s Disease, which is generally more potent than other versions of the illness. It can be extremely frustrating for sufferers because they gradually become more confused, although they will initially know what is happening to them. It may take anywhere between a few months to many years for the full symptoms to actually emerge, but when they do it is extremely unlikely that the sufferer will know who you are.
PARKINSON’S DISEASE – Again, this is a disease that affects the nerve cells leading to the brain and like, dementia, nobody knows exactly what is behind it. Whereas dementia will affect an individual mentally, Parkinson’s primarily disables the body and then moves onto the mind. It may be apparent that a sufferer has the disease because of uncontrollable shaking, which is just as frustrating as the confusion associated with dementia. Again, there is no known cure and drugs only work for a limited time before symptoms can no longer be controlled.
DIABETES – More and more seniors are suffering with this disease as a result of their lifestyles and, primarily, their diets. As sugar and fat intake increases, the body rebels. However, diabetes is an age-old ailment that is caused by the body’s inability to produce enough insulin to keep their blood sugar levels under control. It is incurable but can be treated either by diet or medication in tablet or injection form. It will not cause the death of an individual is treated correctly. However, particular attention has to be paid to wounds that diabetics have because they have a tendency to degenerate more quickly than those in non-diabetics. Amputation of limbs is also quite common as a result of the illness. It is therefore imperative that a diagnosis is swift and observations thereafter occur daily.

What is your opinion of Whitman vs. Giuliani? Who’s at fault for Ground Zero Workers Illnesses?
Question by celticexpress: What is your opinion of Whitman vs. Giuliani? Who’s at fault for Ground Zero Workers Illnesses?
There has been debate between Christie Whitman, former EPA Director and Giuliani’s campaign about who is to blame for the chronic lung illnesses among Ground Zero recovery workers.
I believe that EPA caved in to pressure to “assure” downtown residents that air quality was “safe”. I do not believe that EPA told the City that Ground Zero air was ok. Given all the fires burning alone, I can’t believe that City workers weren’t FORCED to wear respirators. Does this show failure of Rudy’s leadership?
“EPA told the city’s health department that there were concerns about worker safety at the World Trade Center site. In addition to standard construction/demolition site safety concerns, this site also poses threats to workers related to potential exposure to hazardous substances,” including building materials, hazardous materials stored in the buildings and combustion products emitted from the smoldering rubble, the (EPA)letter states.”

Sure the terrorists are at fault for 9/11, but why did so many additional people have to get very sick and in some cases die after the fact when we have simple technology (respirators) that could’ve protected them?
Salman Rushdie: I understand that during the rescue effort, personal protection got ignored. But when it was clearly only a recovery operation, which lasted months, there is NO excuse that workers didn’t have respiratory protection.
ThomasS: I read that some, but not all of the asbestos had been removed from the WTC from 9/11. But also people’s lungs were affected by very finely pulverized glass/concrete from the force of the collapse.
I think that EPA/Whitman caved into pressure to get downtown businesses back and operating. But I also think that the City, which was in charge of the actual Ground Zero site, failed to protect its workers, period. Workers who didn’t wear respirators should’ve been thrown off the site.

Q&A: Does anyone else constantly worry about symtoms of life threatening illnesses? hypochondriacs?
Question by mee: Does anyone else constantly worry about symtoms of life threatening illnesses? hypochondriacs?
I am a constant worrier. I have GAD [generalized anxiety disorder] and I worry constantly about having an undetected illness. Whether its brain tumors, diabetes, lung cancer, asthma, heart issues, and the current one, my brains bleeding. A month ago I thought I had diabetes, got the blood sugar tested and it was fine but I still can’t get myself to eat large amounts of sugar at a time, maybe the sugar triggers the anxiety, who knows? Then I thought I had something else cant’ remember, then I am now seeing wierdo dots and blue dots, and have symtoms of ‘silent migranes’ and sometimes it feels like my side is numb although its not and I feel tingly, so my head always feels weird so I came to the conclusion my brain’s bleeding. I went to the doctor and urgent care they both told me it was just anxiety, but I didn’t believe them. I constanlty look up symtoms on the internet and in books and become literally obsessed with diagnossing myself with diseases which I guess is pretty bad since I have the GAD along with panic disorders. Anyway, I pretty much wake up in the morning and don’t do anything all day because I’m afraid I’ll pass out or have a seizure or something like that so I feel better sitting down or laying down so that takes the majority of my time all day.
My family doesn’t beleive me when I tell them about illnesses which stresses me out more. Maybe it could just be that I’m feeling crappy all the time because I stay inside all day and don’t get any phsyical activity in? I hate getting up and feeling like I’m going to pass out or fall over, and sometimes even when I look at things they look like they are shaking. My doctor I last went to see said this was all anxiety, along with my physcologist, but I cant’ believe them.
The point is, I feel so alone with this, nobody really feels this way it seems so I’m trying to find other people that feel the same way as I am, and how they coped or got over health sickness obsessions. I mean I have GAD and am a hypochondriac, but I have symptoms which worries me furhther and I never know if its just more anxiety symtoms or if I’m just making them up in my head so much that I actuallyl feel the symtoms, is this possible?

Dear “A”
The causes of colorectal cancer are still being debated and discussed. It will likely be a combination of heredity (genes), diet, and environmental factors.
Some of the many risk factors follow:
Risk factors
Factors that may increase your risk of colon cancer include:
Age. About 90 percent of people diagnosed with colon cancer are older than 50. Colon cancer can occur in younger people, but it occurs much less frequently.
A personal history of colorectal cancer or polyps. If you’ve already had colon cancer or adenomatous polyps, you have a greater risk of colon cancer in the future.
Inflammatory intestinal conditions. Long-standing inflammatory diseases of the colon, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, can increase your risk of colon cancer.
Inherited disorders that affect the colon. Genetic syndromes passed through generations of your family can increase your risk of colon cancer. These syndromes cause only about 5 percent of all colon cancers. One genetic syndrome called familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is a rare disorder that causes you to develop thousands of polyps in the lining of your colon and rectum. People with untreated FAP have a greater than 90 percent chance of developing colon cancer by age 45. Another genetic syndrome, hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), also called Lynch syndrome, is more common than FAP. People with HNPCC have an increased risk of colon cancer and tend to develop colon cancer at an early age. Both FAP and HNPCC can be detected through genetic testing. Talk to your doctor about whether your family history suggests you have a risk of these conditions.
Family history of colon cancer and colon polyps. You’re more likely to develop colon cancer if you have a parent, sibling or child with the disease. If more than one family member has colon cancer or rectal cancer, your risk is even greater. In some cases, this connection may not be hereditary or genetic. Instead, cancers within the same family may result from shared exposure to an environmental carcinogen or from diet or lifestyle factors.
Diet. Colon cancer and rectal cancer may be associated with a diet low in fiber and high in fat and calories. Research in this area has had mixed results. Some studies have found an increased risk of colon cancer in people who eat diets high in red meat and processed meats.
People who eat a diet similar to that of Western countries, such as the United States and Europe, have a higher risk of developing colon cancer than do people who eat diets typically seen in developing countries. When people move from a developing country to a Western country and adapt to the Western diet, their risk of colon cancer increases. Although many studies have tried to identify what part of the Western diet may cause colon cancer, the answer remains unknown.
A sedentary lifestyle. If you’re inactive, you’re more likely to develop colon cancer. This may be because when you’re inactive, waste stays in your colon longer. Getting regular physical activity may reduce your risk.
Diabetes. People with diabetes and insulin resistance may have an increased risk of colon cancer.
Obesity. People who are obese have an increased risk of colon cancer and an increased risk of dying of colon cancer when compared with people considered normal weight.
Smoking. People who smoke cigarettes may have an increased risk of colon cancer. They may also have an increased chance of dying of colon cancer.
Alcohol. Heavy use of alcohol may increase your odds of colon cancer.
Growth hormone disorder. Acromegaly, an uncommon disorder that causes an excess of growth hormone in your body, may increase your risk of colon polyps and colon cancer.
Radiation therapy for cancer. Radiation therapy directed at the abdomen to treat previous cancers may increase the risk of colon cancer.
