Serious Personal Question: Just how painful is Lung Cancer to die from?
Question by IMA SLUTPUPPY 4 U!: Serious Personal Question: Just how painful is Lung Cancer to die from?
Friday I was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, my reward for a lifetime of Smoking. AS IF I needed another Terminal malady to die from; I’ve already got one.
I am already taking a powerful Pain Killer as it is for terminal Cirrhosis of the Liver, and I am wondering IF I am even going to be able to tolerate the additional pain. I’m already taking the most potent Legal painkiller there is, and I don’t see how it can be increased, as it barely reduces the misery as it is. So, IS Lung Cancer really painful? Perhaps it’s time for me to “exercise the option”, as they say: “Youth in Asia”?
Best answer:
Answer by Baa Baa
I had end stage cirrhosis and a liver transplant. My cirrhosis NEVER caused me any pain. I had all the nasty symptoms of liver failure, but no pain. Many people do not have pain with it. The liver itself has no nerve endings, so anyone having pain from liver failure is probably not getting it from the liver itself. I don’t know what is causing all your pain from the cirrhosis, but this is not typical and you should talk to a doctor that specializes in the field as to what is causing all your pain. I just guessing that it could be the cancer instead since cancer often spreads to the liver and brain from the lungs.
Lung cancer is a different story. That can come with a lot of pain. I have seen a number of people with terminal lung cancer, and it did cause a lot of pain. There are a lot of good strong drugs to help people. Maybe you need some dosage adjustments or a combination of drugs that will work for you.

Mom just found out she has liver cancer?
Question by _~’*'~_: Mom just found out she has liver cancer?
Hey my mom just found out she has liver cancer. About a year and a half ago she had breast cancer and they just found this one in a scan. She hasn’t had any further scans yet so we don’t know much about it. What’s the worst case situation (besides death)? What’s the best situation? What kind of treatment should she expect? Any details will help, thanks
Best answer:
Answer by Tarkarri
If it is only 18 months since she was treated for brest cancer then it is more likely to be metastatic breast cancer in her liver than liver cancer.
There is good and bad news.
Liver is bad as there is often fast metastasis form this location.
Liver is good in that an adult can function with only a partial liver and a certain amount of liver regeneration can occur after surgery.
Surgery is likely to remove the tumor, followed by a course of chemo and possibly radiation.
A lot depends on her earlier treatment and details of where in the liver this current cancer is.

I’ve been having these symptoms for months …coughing, night sweats, chills, body aches, back aches, less eating, lost 12 lbs in 2 mths without trying.I thought it was because of menopause, drinking more water and exercise.Today I found out that my friend who I see often, kiss hello, eat, talk & laugh with has active tb and had it for 1 year.I work in a school yearround, my mom has a lung disease already. Could I have spread this to all the people I’ve been in contact with? I’m really scared. I will be tested in 5 days when my Dr. returns from vacation.

Q&A: Why can’t multiple breast cancer mets in lungs just be surgically removed?
Question by Ninninnin: Why can’t multiple breast cancer mets in lungs just be surgically removed?
My wife tells me her doctor says that surgery is not feasible in her situation but I have trouble understanding why there is no quick-fix like just removing the spots in her lungs instead of going for weekly Herceptin treatments. She says the Herceptin is just keeping the cancer from growing any further but it isn’t actually shrinking anything. Shouldn’t she be getting more aggressive treatment to get rid of the cancer? She says that it’s a matter of balancing QOL with treatments and seems fine with the idea of living with cancer. She seems well now and lots of people have trouble believing that she really has cancer. I felt the same way for a long time but am coming to realize that she’s trying pretty hard to stay positive. I guess I’m really trying to figure out what I can do to make it all go away but know that I have to figure out how to deal with it instead.

It is a terrible time for you, because you feel so helpless. I am also going through herceptin treatment, but my cancer is clear.
Just listen to what her doctors say and keep positive for her sake – she has got the right attitude. Enjoy every single hour with her – and I wish you both all the luck in the world.
God bless you.

I just found out my mother has lung cancer and……?
Question by Shawnie: I just found out my mother has lung cancer and……?
I really want to go home for her surgery. I would love to fly. Mostly because I could spend more time with family rather than on the road traveling. I can only take about a week off of work. Her hospital stay is expected to be at least 5 days. My Aunt who lives near me says she would love to go for moral support. Naturally she wants to drive so that she’ll have her car with her while there. It would be much cheaper to travel with her and share the cost of gas but it would steel time from my visit… I’m talking about 2 days getting there and 2 days back if I drive with her. What do you think I should do?

Question by Big Bird Little Bird: I just found out my dad might have lung-cancer. I’m so scared. What should I do?
My dad has been coughing blood the last week so we went to the doctor and got an x-ray of his chest. There’s a big black dot and the doctors assume it is lung cancer even though they will still have to make a biopsy of it. I’m so scared. I know I won’t be able to do something myself so my question is worthless but is it possible to overcome lung cancer? Please help me. Even some reassuring words will do.

Question by bsmclellan: i have lung cancer and have went through chemo and radiation, just wondering how long before my hair grows bac
Best answer:
Answer by RaptureWatch
My mom had stage 3 uterine cancer, underwent radiation and chemo, and also lost her hair.
I don’t recall the exact time frame it took for her hair to grow back, but I do know that 2 summers ago she only had a few sporadic hairs (a few months after the end of chemo), and by last summer she had a full head of hair. If I had to guess, I’d say about a year, give or take a month or two.
She wore wigs in the interim. I don’t know where she got them, but they were VERY nice and looked completely natural.
I don’t know if the type of cancer and/or type, level, and frequency of radiation/chemo makes a difference, but it might. Perhaps there is another patient where you received treatments that has similar specifics to yours who could provide a more accurate time frame.

I just found out that my friend has lung cancer?
Question by luna in love: I just found out that my friend has lung cancer?
It was especially shocking because he told me online as we now live in different countries and he has known about it since May…which means he found out before I moved but didn’t saying anything. He actually didn’t tell anyone until July and I’m still only the third one to know. The only other friends he told were his (now ex) girlfriend and (now ex) friend. They got in a big fight about something and now they don’t even believe him about the cancer. I don’t know how anyone could lie about such a thing and I don’t doubt him for a minute. I can’t imagine being 18 and being diagnosed with lung cancer and then having the only people you trust turn against you. I want to help or to say something but I don’t know what to do. I want to give him a big hug but I’m so far away ![]()
Any advice?
I’m also, obviously, very very very concerned.
He seemed confident that the doctor said he could recover by graduation. Is lung cancer that easy to get rid of? I don’t really know much about it….
………well I feel pretty f*cked over…… not quite sure what to say.

Hate to tell you this . . but cancer is age specific . . and at 18 he can get cancer . . but not lung cancer. Lung cancer is a disease that occurs in older adults and not teens. So . . he is probably not telling the truth and knows that you are clueless about cancer.
There are certain types of cancers that occur at different age levels . . children do not get the same types of cancer as young adults and older adults do not get the same biological types of cancer as children or teens . . teens,in general get cancers associated with the primitive cells of childhood . . they can get leukemia, lymphoma, sarcoma, brain tumors, germ cell tumors (testicular or ovarian) . . but rarely get organ related cancers such as colon, lung, liver, or breast.
It would be exceedingly rare for your friend at 18 to have lung cancer.

Am I just running away from my own problems?
Question by Sunshine Girl: Am I just running away from my own problems?
Ok so I am not sure if I want to stay in my nearly 7 year relationship (I’m 24, he is 27).
My reasons are a bit complicated.
Firstly about 8 months ago he said that he didn’t want children or marriage. He had said it before but I never took notice of it. Suddenly I realised he was probably not going to change and what was the point of staying with him with no future.
So I think long and hard about it, and I try to talk to him about it but he doesnt take me seriously. I thought about it some more, maybe I was being stupid.
Then his mum is diagnosed with lung cancer so a big shock for everyone. I therefore decide to support him and not bring it up again for a while. However in the meantime I am gaining more confidence in myself and desire new experiences. I grow as a person when he is staying still.
In the meantime I start to speak to friends and it dawns on me still more that I have only ever been with this one guy, maybe I am limiting myself and my experiences. Especially since we dont see eye to eye on everything.
A few months later, his mum is getting treatment so things are moving forward so I feel its time to talk to him again. I say that I don’t know if I want to be in the relationship anymore and explained my concerns over children and marriage.
He says that since his mum getting ill he has realised the need to have a family and says that he does want all that stuff eventually. He says he doesn’t want to lose me. This really confuses me but he is genuine about it.
Ive been confused since! I don’t know if I would be better off staying with him because he loves me and we now seem to be seeing eye to eye on future stuff (even if I dont want that stuff yet, its good to know your partner eventually wants the same thing right?). Or have I moved on in my head?
Would I be making the biggest mistake of my life by making the decision to be single? He is all I have ever known and he knows me so well. I care about him so much and would never want to hurt him. With his mum the way she is he needs support.
I seem to equally want to stay and go! There are things that make me feel grateful that I am with him and other things that make me so angry because he can also through his love be very controlling in a passive way!
Am I just running away from my own insecurities, or is it these that are making me stay with him??!!
Any insights would be gratefully recieved – please be sensible, I am quite upset about this. Thanks

you need to know when you want to have marriage and children, is it soon, because if he says eventually, it might mean years from now, you need to ask him that, but don’t seem too pushy. don’t let his mother be the only reason you’re with him,ask yourself this, do you love him and are you ready to spend your life with him?

well i would just like to figure out what kinds of materials and problems the trade centers dealt with?
Question by Jen C: well i would just like to figure out what kinds of materials and problems the trade centers dealt with?
I am asking this because the fire fighters and police and every one that helped out with the 911 disaster was unawear that inside the trade center they dealt with all sorts of items like asbestous, and many other cancer causing agents. I was just curious to how the government can get away with this. Obviously the terrorist knew what they were hitting and when they hit it everything that was inside those buildings is now inside the lungs and bodies of many american citizens. And i think that someone should be held responsible for the work that was done inside the trade center and for however the terrorists discovered what kind of work they were doing

Answer by Citizen1984
All of the junk that people like is basically made of very harmful materials whether it’s your laptop that has ICs filled with vile poisons to buildings that are filled with asbestos, plastic film on the windows. The basic products of our economy are hazardous waste and pollution.
While your concern demonstrates that you are compassionate there is nothing shocking that when you fill a big building with jet fuel and light it thousands of tons of poison will come out.
What is shocking is that medical care is denied to many of the responders and especially the volunteers.
President Bush’s first official action was to make the airlines immune so they would not have to pay for their own negligence in allowing four planes to be hijacked. The best we can hope for is to give the best medical care to the victims. But, we don’t do that either. We are morally lacking as a nation.
The terrorists who did the dirty work all died there’s not much greater punishment you can inflict upon them.

Is this anxiety symptoms or am I just ill?
Question by : Is this anxiety symptoms or am I just ill?
Hi
Yeah over the past 2 months things haven’t been going well for me. It all started when I was on the laptop and then I just randomly felt weird, around my nose and face which made me PANIC like crazy; which made me then feel like something is wrong with me. Then for the next 2 months I have had these different sensations, such as tingling in my feet, weak hands, shooting pains in my head, buzzing/vibration in my body, and I feel extremely depressed like whats going on with me; am I ill?
I have looked at symptoms of different diseases and now I think I have them, such as liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, brain tumor/brain cancer, cancer overall etc.
How can I overcome this? Im 14 by the way.

These symptoms sound much more like anxiety than cancer etc. Then, you have hormones. Stop worrying, you’ll be fine.

www.PreOp.com Patient ED @ 617-379-1582 INFO Your doctor has told you that need to undergo shoulder replacement surgery. But what does that actually mean? As you move your arm, the ball-shaped end of the upper arm, or humerus, moves against a cup-like depression in shoulder bone, or scapula. As long as the upper arm can slide against the shoulder, you are able to move your arm comfortably. But over time, especially in patients who suffer from arthritis, the shoulder joint can wear down. Cartilage, the tissue that cushions the bones and makes it possible for them to move smoothly against each other can wear away. When this happens, the bones run together, causing pain and restricting arm movement. No matter what the cause, one of the most effective ways to fix a damaged shoulder is to replace it surgically. In this procedure, the ball-shaped bone at the top of the upper arm is removed … … and replaced with a metal substitute. Patient Education The shoulder socket is widened and lined with a smooth pad that allows the metal ball joint to move more freely against the shoulder blade. Shoulder replacement surgery is a major operation, but your doctor believes that the procedure — followed up with physical therapy and time to heal — will result in reduced pain and greater mobility. So make sure that you ask your doctor to carefully explain the reasons behind this recommendation. Patient Education
