is their financial assistance for kidney cancer surgery?

Question by justmissbhavin: is their financial assistance for kidney cancer surgery?
Is bad enough to be diagnosed with Cancer. But worse than the Cancer is the stress of I am gonna be able to support myself.
I am on assisted HealthCare Insurance which requires I pay for the first 600.00 in a months expense. Which is half of my net monthly income. I am falling behind, and cannot work… while recovering. I am so depressed and stressed that I will lose my house.

My grandfather (67years old) was diagnosed with kidney cancer a few months ago…. ?

Question by Emily C: My grandfather (67years old) was diagnosed with kidney cancer a few months ago…. ?
They took out his kidney and the tumore and some of the surrounding tissue. They then declared him cancer free. However we noticed that he was not gaining strngth or getting any better so we went back to the hospital. The doctors did a bone scan and saw that it had spread to his bones. (pelvic, shoulder and spine) They also saw that it had spread a little to his lungs. They are giving him calcium infusions to help with pain and they are starting him on treatment to help maintain his cancer. I was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on this type of cancer. How long we can expect to have him here with us etc. Thanks so much!

Kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma), in the metastatic setting is unfortunately uncurable and has an overall poor prognosis. But with newer therapies, the median survival (meaning the amount of time at least 50% of the patients will live) is about 1.5 to 2 years. Some folks have more aggressive forms and live much less, some much longer. Good luck.

Q&A: my nana has kidney cancer that spread to the lung – survival chances?

lung cancer survival
by sniperslaststand

Question by Unknown: my nana has kidney cancer that spread to the lung – survival chances?
hello..my nana was diagnosed with renal cell kidney cancer about 6 months ago..the kidney got removed and it was also mentioned that there was a small dot on the lung but they didnt no what it was. since the operation to remove the kidney about 3 month ago she has felt 100% fit and healthy just as before she got the cancer. We all thought it was pretty much over with until today when she had a check up about the lung and several spots have been found (which was a suprise since she is feeling so good). When i read on the internet it would class it as stage 4 which is weird because she is fine and no doctors or any1 have mentioned that shes likely to die because on the internet it says 80%+ people die within 5 years once it spreads to another organ.

would my nana still be in this group? Or would she have a much better chance since she is so healthy at the moment and the main tumor on the kidney is already gone?

any help or thoughts are apreciated

thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Laurent
I’m very, very sorry. Yes it would seem that the kidney cancer has spread to the lung which, as you point out, would classify it as Stage IV renal cell carcinoma. This is considered “not curable” by the medical oncology community and it is almost certainly a terminal diagnosis. It makes no difference that the tumor on the kidney is gone, it has moved on to other major organs. Let me offer some advice please. Spend as much time as you can with her, and get to know her well. Celebrate her life, travel if you can, throw parties and make her know that you love her. Soon she will not feel like traveling or partying or even getting out of bed. Please, cherish every moment you have with her.

Premade Yerba Mate cancer and kidney risks?

lung cancer articles
by AncestralHealthSymposium

Question by : Premade Yerba Mate cancer and kidney risks?
I drink maybe 2-3 bottles of premade Guayaki Yerba Mate a week, maximum. Recently I read that it has a risk of kidney problems, and cancer (esophagus, lung, mouth were the three big ones). However, I noticed that the countless articles I read through seemed to be geared towards the kind you make yourself with the leaves and something about them being dried over a fire with smoke and such.

My family has slight cancer risks, and my grandmother has kidney disease, which is why I’m concerned about this.

Are there any health risks for the premade and chilled Yerba Mate (specifically, guayaki) that I should be concerned about? Or is this something I should contact my physician about?

Best answer:

Answer by Erin
From what I understand, these studies linking cancer to yerba mate are flawed (at least the link to esophagus cancer) Though cancer was developed, many of the participants were also smokers, and there is suspicion that the yerba mate itself didn’t cause cancer of the esophagus, but it may have been the temperature of it. Truthfully, any hot beverage (if it’s too hot) ingested regularly over a long period of time may cause problems.

It’s entirely up to you. Do what you feel is right and safe. Fyi, Guayaki is a high quality brand from what I understand.

Q&A: what is best treatment for kidney cancer that has spread to liver?

liver cancer treatment
by Vietnam Plants & America plants

Question by hnybzthms: what is best treatment for kidney cancer that has spread to liver?
Hi my mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer in Dec 2007 and had her right kidney removed Jan 08, it was a stage 3 tumor and though they said it was very advanced they did not remove the lymph-nodes as they thought they were ok.

In Nov 08 her ct scan was clear and in March 09 they scan showed a spot on her liver which was 1.5cm, she had a MRI and they referred her back to the oncologist who told us the cancer had spread.

At present she is awaiting to see the surgeon in L’pool regarding having the left half of her liver removed, which we have been told is major op.

My mum is not sure if she wants the op, for a few reasons 1 because she feels removing half the liver will not cure the cancer and as they feel its probably spread through the blood or lymph-nodes and she feels it will only be matter of time before it reappears. 2 because she has been told its a minimum of a 3 month recovery.

Is it true that the cancer is likely to reappear even if the current spot is removed?

And does anyone know about radiofrequeny treatment as she is very keen to try that as compared to major sugery it only takes about a wks recovery.

Which has the best results, and if she had surery how long would the cancer stay away? Are we talking it could stay away years amd years, as the oncologest said kidney cancer is an aggesive cancer.

Best answer:

Answer by Sebastien
I’m sorry to hear about your mum’s cancer.
If the oncologist has told you that it has likely spread beyond the liver then it is probable that it will come back later. Radiation therapy only works when you know where the cancer is. It may get rid of the cancer in the liver, as surgery will, but it won’t prevent another spreading.
If your mother’s fears are well founded about further metastasis then I can see her reasoning for wanting the least invasive procedure possible.

Question by Carolyn J: mold and problems with lung after having kidney surgery?
I was alright until I came home from hospital after surgery and started having pain in my right lung and difficult breathing deep because of pain. My husband just found my window air conditioner had black mold so bad it started coming out the front of the unit. He has taken the unit out but I am still sick

Best answer:

You need to contact your doctor about this problem. Time away from the mold will help ease your symptoms, but your doctor needs to know of this problem.

Outlook for someone with stage IV kidney cancer?

survival rate for lung cancer
by Miss Bliss 55

Question by Mandy aka Dane-A-Holic: Outlook for someone with stage IV kidney cancer?
I was wondering if anyone knew the life expectancy of someone with Stage IV kidney cancer. My dad was diagnosed back in January, and he has a grapefruit sized tumor on his kidney, it has metastisized to his lungs (1 cm lesions), he has another small mass behind his esophagus, and it has spread to his brain. He just finished his second and last round of radiation on his entire brain, and he is about to start his 3rd round of chemo next week.

The reason I am asking if anyone has any information about it is because he refuses to tell me or anyone else in my family. He doesnt want to worry anyone or make anyone feel sorry for him. I have read online that it has a low survival rate, something like 15% of people live 5 years, and some websites say people can live anywhere from 8 months to 14 months. I just need some information from someone who actually has been there or knows someone who has.

Please, no trolls, this is a very serious question.
Thank you guys. This is just a really hard thing for me. My dad and I werent close in the past, I mean, he and my mom divorced when I was really young and they always had a bad relationship and my mom literally moved me away for several years and he had no idea where I was. And once I got into my teens I was getting into all sorts of trouble and that just pushed us further apart. It really wasnt until the birth of my daughter 2 years ago that brought us closer. And it just feels like right when we’re trying to repai our relationship it all goes to crap basically. Its just really hard.

I am so sorry about your father. Your father is still trying to deal with this diagnosis. He is feeling so many different emotions at this time. All his life he has protected you and he is still trying to do that. His prognosis is not good. You can read on WEB MD about the stages of cancer and the survival rate of stage IV is not high. Cancer can be very slow growing to very aggressive. He will most likely be more candid with you with time. He has so many things to think through and it is important to keep a positive attitude. Don’t pressure him about anything and just love him. He has never needed your support like he does now. He may never open up about this, as men deal with this diagnosis differently than women. I wish I could give you a hug and pray with you. God will help you through this difficult time if you let him. Just pray and seek support from close friends and family.

Questions about kidney cancer?

Question by Me: Questions about kidney cancer?
So my mom is handling the doctor visits right now and I’m trying to stay out of it. So this is third party information and I want to know if its true:

1.) He has kidney cancer which is overlapping the liver. They said the cancer is over top the liver and drew a picture. The doctor said they can not figure out if the liver has cancer until they do the surgery to remove the kidney. Is this true?

2.) His lungs have modules on them? But they said they are not cancerous yet, what does that mean? Is the modules ok?

3.) While doing the colon check, they found something in his stomach and are doing a biopsy on this. Is it true it takes two weeks for the results? My mother was given a phone number to call. My mom said she forgot to call and seems like its not even a bother to her to call. If they found something, would they call us or do we HAVE to call them?

They meet with the pathologist this Friday to go over the surgery.

Best answer:

Answer by Denisedds
It is possible cancer is over top the liver and I would believe the doctor if he said so they don’t lie to their patients. It is also possible they cannot tell on imagining if the liver is involved or not.

The lung nodule thing does not make sense. Either they are cancerous or they are not they do not become cancerous later. It is possible they are too small to know.

Doing a colon check is not typical workup for kidney cancer and would not include the stomach. If the stomach was scoped it is typical for random biopsies to be taken. However, if they said something was found that is a different story. Two weeks is a little long to wait for results and there is usually an appointment already setup to go over them it is not usually done by phone. Patients do not often meet the pathologist and pathologists do not discuss surgery. If he is having the kidney removed that would be a urologist.

It has spread to her lung, lymph node, and brain. The only treatment offered so far is to treat just the tumors in her brain so that it won’t affect her movement skills. The rest of the cancer,no treatment offered. Has anybody been thru this? What can we expect? How long do you think she has, honesty please.I just want the truth, Thanks.

Not from kidney, but from lung.
We were told 4 months and it was pretty accurate. He had a few radiotherapy sessions, but they did little for him.
It was a matter of keeping him as pain free and as comfortable as possible.

My mother has to have her kidney removed due to kidney cancer, how long does the surgery take?

Question by MomOf1boy: My mother has to have her kidney removed due to kidney cancer, how long does the surgery take?
My mother found out 2 weeks ago she’s got kidney cancer, it has spread to her renal vein, liver and lungs. She has a 12 centimeter tumor on her left kidney and has to have her left kidney removed by open surgery, How long does this surgery usually take? My husband and I have agreed that I would stay and take care of her when she got out of the hospital. I would also like to know if its possibly that she will be in icu for a day or so? if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Best answer:

Answer by Neil L
I’m just guessing that it will take about 2 1/2 hours, baring complications, but can’t find any info online. The best thing to do is ask the surgeon’s office what you should plan for. I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s situation.

Does ADRENAL abnormality affect kidney, other function?

adrenal cancer
by Stacy Lynn Baum

Question by news-n-more-news: Does ADRENAL abnormality affect kidney, other function?
Relative of mine was found to have “something” wrong with her adrenal glands nearly two years ago while in ICU for respiratory disease. It was not cancer, and doctors never mentioned anything further to us.

Because of her COPD, atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure and CHF, she suffers tremendously from respiratory problems and mainly the increase carbon dioxide problem which comes with COPD. It is the high acidity (low PH) which I blame for her smelly, thick, dark urine which can be in any form I just mentioned or only one of those but the color of gasoline mixed w/ water, or lately appearing to be potato flaky-like.

From experience of seeing doctors ignore many things in many of her hospitalizations and subsequent treatments, I’ve come to believe her kidneys may not be functioning as well as they should.

What would our main concern w/ the adrenal glands here be?

By the way, just remembered that they (adrenal) produce cortisone(?) or similar, which serve to protected against inflamation. Am I right?

Wouldn’t treatment of her adrenal glands help with her lung inflamation and thus her breathing improvement?
JenS, I loved your complete and thorough answer!!! Wanted to extend question, but apparently I’d done so before. Wanted many others to read about such important gland and some of the problems with it.

Best answer:

Answer by Jen S
Adrenals control many things.
The help regulate sodium and potassium (May impact blood pressure)
They produce DHEA which in turn becomes estrogen and testosterone.
Cortisol regulates many things – which like you said, in correct amounts, it would reduce inflammation, but in the wrong amount, um, it increases it. I had a tumor that increased my cortisol and had too much – thus it wrecked my immune system, etc ,etc.

Too much is as bad as too little…

But with the information given, high blood pressure is a definite adrenal issue (and can be kidney driven by renin and aldosterone), but as far as the color of urine, that is purely a kidney function as far as I know.

Q&A: Kidney Cancer possibly spread to lungs?

latest lung cancer treatment
by Vietnam Plants & America plants

Question by Minxie: Kidney Cancer possibly spread to lungs?
In 2008 – my father had blood in his urine and then could NOT urinate at all. He went to the ER and they found a tumor on his kidney. He saw the oncologist and they diagonosed him with stage IV cancer & removed his entire Kidney, saying the cancer was contained to just the kidney and he needed no further treatment. About a year ago, he went for a scan and everything came back good. He has routine blood work done and also comes back good.

A couple of weeks ago, he had blood work done and his PCP suggested he follow up with the oncologist again, for a ‘routine’ follow up. He went for a scan w/ the dye and everything. A few hours later his oncologist doctor called and said the scans show a 5cm tumor on his lung and he needs to have surgery. The DR said he didn’t even see the scans yet, because he was in surgery all day, so he will call today with more info.

My father NEVER had any type of treatment after his kidney surgery. I also read that the lungs is 1 of the main places the kidney cells go to.

Is it possible this tumor has nothing to do with cancer??? I know there is no REAL way anyone but the DR’s will know that, but if anyone has a similar experience or story, It’d be nice to know..

Thanks
oh i also want to to add, that the radiology called the DR and told him the results, because he hadn’t looked at it himself. He also metioned he doesn’t ‘think’ it’s Cancer and it has something to do with his Kidney???

Best answer:

Answer by Denisedds
If he was diagnosed with stage IV it would have been impossible for them to also state the cancer was contained to just the kidney. So I don’t understand.
Very few oncologists also do surgery and I am not aware of a single oncologist who would remove a kidney. So again, I don’t understand.
The radiologist would tell him if it was cancer or not and at 5cm it most likely is.
I cannot imagine any doctor saying he doesn’t think it is cancer and if it has something to do with the kidney it obviously is. This does not make sense either.

My little sister is 14yrs. old and two years ago she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer). The tumor was taken out and her bone was replaced with metal. About a year later she developed cancer in her lung which almost died from. The tumor was taken out and she started her recovery again. Just about four days ago she was diagnosed with cancer in the kidney and she has been in a lot of pain and has blood in her urine. The doctor says that her mass is located close to her main artery which is causing the blood in her urine. My baby sister is very special to me and I love her very much, but I am so afraid that we are going to lose her. She says she feels really bad and she is very sad. Please can anyone tell me if they are survivors of the same situation that my sister is going through or know anyone. I am trying to keep as positive as I can and all prayers are welcomed. Thank You.

I am so sorry for your situation. Cancer is a devastating disease and as in your sister’s case it can metastasise to other parts of the body. Tremendous strides have been made in cancer treatment however, and NOTHING is impossible. Get the best oncologist you possibly can, ask lots of questions and ask for honesty from them in giving you information. Spend a lot of time with your sister and encourage her to never give up…a tall order. Pray for her and pray for those who are treating her that they will have wisdom and divine guidance in their work. Help your sister to verbalize what is going on in her mind and be sure to listen to everything she has to say. If she is depressed, which she has all the right in the world to be, try to do things with her that will help to take her mind off her illness. Be there for her as much as you can. Whatever the outcome, that way you will know that you did everything possible for her. Hang in there.
