I bought a house that was infested with bats!! I went to the doctor because I was having problems with a dry cough for about 2 months. They first said they were going to treat it like it was pneumonia,put me on antibiotics. They then sent me to a pulmonoligist and he put me on the antibiotics for another 10 days. He said they will do another chest xray on the 22nd and see if it went away, if it doesn’t then they may be looking at histoplasmosis. Should I be worried? I have never smoked.

i have a pain in my left lung/back and the pain is sharp and sometimes dull but only lasts for like a minute or two. im 14 years old with anxiety. i went to my doc a few days ago and he says im ok and check up with him in a week to see if i still have me sickness. the lung pain/back pain only occurred about 2 days ago

3 years ago my life was on an upward path. Work was going great. I was promoted and told I had a great future. I am from England and was asked to work for my company in California. This was a big deal. They send their best people to CA to learn more about the business and then the theory goes they get transferred back as senior managers. Ever since then everything has gone wrong. Work didn’t go great. I met this woman who was very beautiful but who was a complete liar – I was just too dumb to realize it. I fell in love with her she cleaned me out financially and left in the car I bought her with some guy she had been cheating on me with throughout our relationship. Work went worse after this. I thought about going home but was too embarrassed – everyone at work in England knows about how stupid I was and how badly I let her treat me. Then my father was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in March of this year. He is going downhill fast and will be lucky to survive to the end of the year. I asked for a job at home and was offered my old job back. This might sound dumb but this hurts my pride very much. Its like I have wasted the last three years. People who were junior when I left will now be my superior. Basically my career is ruined, I am ashamed and embarrassed for being so dumb with my “GF” and my father is dying of cancer. I never thought of suicide before but feel my life is completely ruined and that at 32 there is no point in going on.

Wow. Your life does seem to have taken many bad turns here. I wish there was more I could do to offer you as some sort of solution to this all, but I know I cannot. I do however embark to say that death is not the best answer. Your father is losing his life without his consent and you wish to throw yours away.

The news is bad no hope chemo and all treatment has stoped after we recived news that the 2nd chemo therapy was working on his lungs now liver and stomake are gone I dont want to say or do anything that will make things worse I only want to be their for my freind. He has not allways been a Angle but have any of us

There’s no easy or simple answer as this must be one of the hardest things to deal with. Your friend isn’t looking for you to supply a miracle or even the answer. Just be the friend you’ve been for the last 25 years. You must be one of the best in the world since you’re dropping everything to be by his side. My aunt is 53 and has been suffering from cancer for about 4 years, she has undergone radiation and kimo treatment for breast, liver and a couple other places and has fought hard through it. She has been doing great for the last few months until recently when they found her to have cancer in her brain, they started radiation treatment this last month and she’s been having a hard time with it.
She was found unconscious this morning and rushed by ambulance to the hospital where they put her in ICU. The doctors said her organs were beginning to shut down and gave her children two options; to let her die or to work with her aggressively. Her children asked them to work with her and they rushed her over to the shock-trauma unit where they are hoping she will be a little better by morning.
I am close with my aunt and I am having a really hard time with this. I want to ask to go see her but with my cousins going through this shock I don’t want to stress anyone out even more by treading where I shouldn’t at such a sensitive time. I really, really want to see her right away if she might not make it.
Is there a chance she’ll pull through this? Or, is she going? If so, how much time?

Your cousins should let the family come and say good-bye to her.
If you are asking if she can be cured the answer is no.
No way of knowing how much time she has. If your cousins insist and she has not made her wishes known, it can be dragged out for quite awhile.

I have had a cacerous tumor on my adrenal gland around 2 years old but it has been cured and removed. Now i am freaking out because i have this thing that is hard and not moveable in my leg. I have read Lump,growth, tumor? of a woman who had a likeliness to my case and it was oestochodroma but unlike her and other patients with this tumor i have had no surgery on my leg. I have had scrapes and cuts but nothing that i have ever needed medical help. It has sat in my leg for around 2 years. You can’t see it unless you bend the skin to show it and it is easy to feel but hurts when touched. Now 1 of my brothers had a rare cancer when he was 18 months but he’s ok now. More recaintly my eldest brother around 20 or so has been diagnosed with desmoplastic sarcoma and not in too good of a position and has a couple years at most. I am afraid that my mother and father had only 4 kids and 3 diagnosed with cancer or in my case a cancerous tumor. If I do end up having another cancerous tumor I’ll most likely have low chances since it is the size of a dime growing inward with little pain but it has been there for two years! Please help!

Hi Heaven,Oh my, you have certainly been through a lot for your age.I’m curious…if this lump has been there for two years already, has any doctor seen it and evaluated it? If not, it should be seen. It’s quite probable that it’s nothing, but since you have a history of cancer, and you’ve got a strong family history of cancer, ANY unexplained lump should be evaluated.But I do want to reassure you that even if, God forbid, it turns out to be cancer, there are many very effective treatments nowadays. And it’s quite possible to survive more than one type…I know, because I’ve survived two different types. Ask your parents to take you to the doctor and have the lump evaluated. Good luck, and I will be thinking of you. Please write back and let us know what happens when you see the doctor.

This isn’t a heart attack and isn’t anything in my lung that I am aware of. I had a chest xray about 6 months ago and everything was clear. No loss of appetite, no vomit, I am not tired. It feels like it is above and left of my stomache.

I should let you know a little something about myself. I have asthma and I recently went to the doctors yesterday and asked them to check my lungs because I had symptoms of a cold (no fever, clear yellow phlem) and a bad cough (got better) which happened to be a viral infection. Viral infections (bronchitis? my doc was unable to see me so i saw another one and she didnt tell me if it it was bronchitis or not… i think it is) will go away on its own, but this rattle/audible vibration occurs right after an inhalation? Idk if you would call it wheezing because I know what wheezing feels like. I have found that out today and it is making me paranoid. Whats wrong with me? :/
I have also read that people who have COPD can develop lung cancer… do you think i might have this? I am only 21

Hello. i cant tell you that you dont have cancer but with the symptoms you described it sounds like fluid in your lungs (bronchitis) and it doesnt go away by itself it turns into pnemonia if untreated go back to the DR!

Okay. Out of the blue, I woke up on Wednesday morning with a sharp, stabbing pain just underneath my left shoulder blade that almost makes me cry out whenever I inhaled. I got a chest x-ray on Thursday when the pain didn’t improve, and it ruled out a collapsed lung or a broken rib. Friday rolled around and the pain was no better, and again today (Saturday), I’m still not seeing any improvement. My parents are both in the medical field and tend to downplay my ailments (this particular time, they’re saying it’s just a pulled muscle…but I didn’t do anything to have caused a pulled muscle). I’m wondering if anyone out there has the same symptoms as me and can give me a lead to what it might be. I’m trying to find a way to convince my parents that the pain isn’t in my head, and that I’m not exaggerating the pain (I always considered myself to have a high pain threshold, but my dad said today that he thinks I just can’t tolerate pain and that it’s “not that bad”. I’m describing it as “excruciating” because it literally hurts to breathe).
OTHER INFO: I’m a 23 year old female, overweight, but generally in good health. I’ve never had any kinds of serious problems before. The pain is about four inches below my shoulder blade and slightly toward the middle of my back, but radiates up the middle of my back and toward my side when I inhale too deeply. Heat seems to help a little, though it’s short-lived, ibuprofen has done almost nothing, and it feels a little better when I’m lying down as opposed to standing up. It’s not impacting my sleep, but my daily activities have basically grinded to a halt. Any suggestions or leads would be an astronomical help.

It sounds like Pleurisy. Please google it, which would take less time than me writing. In short, it is the inflammation of the membrane that covers the lungs and line the chest cavity. You may experience a loss of appetite and just don’t feel good. There is always an underlying cause for Pleurisy such as infection, injury, or tumor. Go to the doctor and do as they say.

My dad has just been diagnosed with Lung Cancer of both lungs (small cell cancer in one of them) and potentially it has spread to one of his kidneys. He is 70 years of age, in constant pain but will still not give up smoking and is on 30 a day! (We have tried to get him to stop but he wont). He has diabetes, has lost 15kg in the past four months and his hands and arms are starting to blacken and bruise. The specialist advised my mother that he was over the borderline for Chemotherapy however, has agreed to treat him to see if the cancer reacts positively, albeit she said it’s only to buy him a bit of time! She would not give my mum any indication of the time he has left and has told my father he can take as much pain relief as he needs. I’m so upset – I feel numb and totally helpless because we have received no indication of how much time we may have. Does anybody have any experiences they can share to help and if there are any Doctors on the site, do you have any opinion in terms of expectancy? Any info at all would be a tremendous help and thanks for taking the time to read my question.

I’m so sorry for the pain you’re going through right now. I lost a family member to cancer not long ago so I have some idea of how horrible it is for everyone involved. Times vary for every person depending on the type(s) of cancer, if they spread (and where to), previous health, response to treatments like chemo and radiotherapy (or operations where possible) and often the persons mindset. It may be that the doc didn’t give a timespan because they just couldn’t work one out as there are so many variables. My relative who died was given 2 months and lived for almost a year, while others I have heard of have been given a year and only lasted a couple of weeks. It’s a very inexact science. All you can do is be as strong as possible, give him as much support as you can manage to make things the best they can be for as long as possible. Remember you’re not alone either, there are plenty of charities and organisations out there who can give you advice, help and the emotional support you and your family are likely to need. I wish there was something more useful I could say. I hope you can make what time is left the best possible and that your Dad still has a while to go.

This pain started almost a year ago when I had a strong cough. It was not a real pain, but a weird feeling that was getting stronger when I took a deep breath. However, I was worry that there could be a problem with my lungs. So I made a Chest CT. It showed that I had a 4 mm noncalcified right upper lobe lung nodule. Still I don’t know why I have this pain under my left shoulder blade. I checked the heart, no problems were there.
For the last three days this pain (still not a pain but a funny/weird feeling) got worse and I have a fever of 100.3 the max with no signs of flu or a cold. I don’t know what’s going on with me and am kind of worry. Please, help! Thank you.

If you have medical coverage, I recommend you see a specialist and have a diagnostic test done. That way, you can properly be diagnosis (to determine the cause) and an appropriate treatment plan can be developed.

With all due respect, what is it that you need to hear? Hopefully, your mom is being followed by a physician in order to have the lesion biopsied if appropriate and for the blood with her cough.

He has a knot on his neck that they discovered was cancer last week. Now they’ve got the full body PET scan back and they found it in his abdomen, left lung and all the way up to his neck. The Dr. sounded optimistic and said that there was hope if we started chemo and radiation, but how much can his 75 year old body handle? He’s got respiratory problems, as well. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I’d hate to lose him now..my son is only one and can’t stand the thought of him not knowing and being close to his great grandpa

Not good. You are right, it is the radiation that will likely be ‘the straw’.
I lost my grandpa not too long ago to cancer. he was 80. In hindsight he would have probably lived another 2-3 years without radiation,, but the radiation killed him in 6 months. =(
