Mom just found out she has liver cancer?
Question by _~’*'~_: Mom just found out she has liver cancer?
Hey my mom just found out she has liver cancer. About a year and a half ago she had breast cancer and they just found this one in a scan. She hasn’t had any further scans yet so we don’t know much about it. What’s the worst case situation (besides death)? What’s the best situation? What kind of treatment should she expect? Any details will help, thanks

Answer by Tarkarri
If it is only 18 months since she was treated for brest cancer then it is more likely to be metastatic breast cancer in her liver than liver cancer.
There is good and bad news.
Liver is bad as there is often fast metastasis form this location.
Liver is good in that an adult can function with only a partial liver and a certain amount of liver regeneration can occur after surgery.
Surgery is likely to remove the tumor, followed by a course of chemo and possibly radiation.
A lot depends on her earlier treatment and details of where in the liver this current cancer is.

My dog has elevated liver enzymes?
Question by Shaelyn: My dog has elevated liver enzymes?
My dog’s ALT liver enzyme is quite high. The vet said that their particular lab says it should be between 50 and 107 and my dog’s is 223. The vet is concerned about leptospirosis, but she is now on antibiotics. However, none of her kidney or other liver enzymes were elevated. Her blood counts came back normal as well. She is about 2 years old, and is a yellow labrador retreiver. My main concern is about either liver cancer, or chronic hepatitis. We will continue her course of amoxicillin until she’s finished, and then start a course of doxycycline in case it is leptospirosis. She’s not showing any symptoms except slight fatigue, and disinterest in normal activities. Can someone please put my mind at ease so that I can feel more confident that my baby will be with me for quite some time more?
She hasn’t been tested for cushing’s, but she isn’t showing any symptoms of that at all. I will have the vet check for that as well as a copper disorder. Also, the vet said she would do an ultra-sound of her liver if after the antibiotics her ALT is still high. Thank you all so much for your comments! It makes me feel much better!

The link I am providing gives a list of the symptoms of end stage liver failure. These would be the same with liver cancer. Please do not misunderstand and raise hopes by providing the link to your friend since it is a web page about misdiagnosed conditions. I am sorry for your friend’s situation.

My father-in-law has liver, lung and pancreatic cancer. Why would he be disoriented and have a bladder infect?
Question by : My father-in-law has liver, lung and pancreatic cancer. Why would he be disoriented and have a bladder infect?
My father-in-law has been going through Chemo for liver, lung and pancreatic cancer. However, last night he was admitted to the hospital with a 102.5 fever and dry mouth. They said he was dehydrated and probably had a bladder infection. (Anything over 101 fever in a chemo patient, calls for an admission to the hospital.) However, he was also very disoriented and out of sorts. I am not in the state where my father-in-law is, so I don’t know that I am getting all the facts. Could anyone help explain to me why he may be disoriented and not being able to remember things with a simple bladder infection? I can’t find anything doing a search online. Thank you so much for your time!
Best answer:
Answer by DrJamesD.C.
Disorientation could be a side effect of medications, he could also have a more extensive infection than the bladder infection. our prayers are with him and your family.

is 2 weeks too long to wait for liver cancer?
Question by : is 2 weeks too long to wait for liver cancer?
A Ultrasound showed that my mom had a smaller tumor in her liver as well as several smaller growths. We just took a CT but the doctor said to wait 2 weeks for results. She doesn’t have all the symptoms but she does feel some discomfort in the liver region and has been full really quickly.
My question is, Is it too late if we wait 2 weeks for the diagnosis? Would the cancer have progressed too much?
Best answer:
Answer by Denisedds
If it is cancer you won’t wait 2 weeks because the radiologist will call her doctor.
Even if is cancer 2 weeks is not to long to wait. They would do a biopsy next anyway.

What’s your question? Notice it is “pre-clinical” data, not clinical data, meaning it has not been given to humans or has helped anyone yet. We have many, many, many drugs that seem to work well in animal models of cancer that do NOT work well in the clinical setting, in humans. So, in my opinion, nothing to get too excited about yet. There is one drug to treat liver cancer in humans, called sorafanib (brand name Nexavar) but it gives a total of about 2 weeks of extra lifespan to sufferers of this terrible disease.
Another note, it is my opinion that if RNAi drugs become viable the first real therapeutic use will be for liver cancer, since they appear to preferentially target the liver over all other organs, and in cancer the side effects may be outweighed by the potential for lengthening lifespan. Just my two cents.

Best answer:
Answer by mlgable
If her cancer has spread that far there is really nothing more you can do but try to keep her as comfortable as possible and let her live her last days to the fullest. If she is signed on with hospice yet I would suggest you call them today and talk to them. They are great at helping with all aspects of end stage life things.

Question by sumio m: Is there any liver cancer patients who want cure without operations ?
Once I was a member of Japanese Antarctic Expedition, as a radio operator of wintering party.
I can introduce the healer who can cure the liver cancer and the brain tumor without surgical operations. He can do without radiations or much medicines.
Also you may continue your present medical treatment with your family doctor.
May be unbelievable, but It is truth!

I hate to cast doubt on this man who appears to be sincere in his offer of help, but I would have to see iron clad scientific proof that anyone could cure any disease of any kind at long distances by mental telepathy or other means.
Especially if I had a deadly disease like cancer. Check it out if you want, but I, alas, remain sceptical of these kind of claims.
