Living with Cystic Fibrosis
Courtesy of www.genericforyou.com – Patients talk about diagnosis and living with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis (also known as CF) is a common disease which affects the entire body, causing progressive disability and often early death. The name cystic fibrosis refers to the characteristic scarring (fibrosis) and cyst formation within the pancreas, first recognized in the 1930s. Difficulty breathing is the most serious symptom and results from frequent lung infections that are treated, though not cured, by antibiotics and other medications. A multitude of other symptoms, including sinus infections, poor growth, diarrhea, and infertility result from the effects of CF on other parts of the body. CF is caused by a mutation in the gene for the protein cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). This gene is required to regulate the components of sweat, digestive juices, and mucus. Although most people without CF have two working copies of the CFTR gene, only one is needed to prevent cystic fibrosis. CF develops when neither gene works normally. Therefore, CF is considered an autosomal recessive disease. CF is most common among Caucasians and Ashkenazi Jews; one in 25 people of European descent carry one gene for CF. Approximately 30000 Americans have CF, making it one of the most common life-shortening inherited diseases. Individuals with cystic fibrosis can be diagnosed before birth by genetic testing, or by a sweat test in early childhood. Ultimately, lung …

Walking for My Health -Living with Psoriatic/Reactive Arthritis
more updates on my blog : bonnie90505.blogspot.com I carry the HLB-27 Anti-Gene I will walk and dance and enjoy my life and if my inflammatory autoimmune disease takes away my ability to be active, then so be it. I have adjusted to my condition of inflammatory joint disease which one day could lead to Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) I have currently been diagnoised with psoriatic arthritis/ but never developed psoriasis.(yet) What is AS: This condition is present in 1 in 1000 to 1 in 2000 of the white population; it shows a lower incidence in Blacks and Asians. It is was traditionally considered more common in males, but it is now recognized that it may be equally common in females, although less severe. It varies from a relatively asymptomatic condition visible only on X-rays, to a crippling disease. The typical patient is a young man with lower back pain and morning stiffness, with a progressive loss of spinal movement. The main lesion is that of progressive spinal fusion with spinal ankylosis and sacroiliac joint involvement that results in a fixed, kyphotic spine and restricted respiratory excursion. It may also be associated with hip and knee involvement, amyloidosis, aortitis and apical lung fibrosis which is fusion of the spine music by: Kevin MacLeod-incompetech.com creativecommons.org danosongs.com community.danosongs.com Jason Shaw-www.audionautix.com creativecommons.org

Living through lung cancer?
Question by Victoria: Living through lung cancer?
Ok, my friend is 15 years old, the love of my life. He just recovered from cancer in his shoulder. He went through surgery and kemo. Now his cancer is in BOTH of his lungs. They are specks all over the lungs but they arent huge. They are growing a fast rate though. The doctors said they think that they are new ones. He is a very strong guy to have already made it through cancer once. But i heard lung cancer is hard to make it out of. I heard that most of the people die. Can you tell me anything you might know about what i told you?
Best answer:
Answer by Danielle D
What your friend has is probably not lung cancer, but the same cancer he had in his shoulder that has now spread to his lungs. There is a difference.
A cancer that has spread is considered a Stage IV cancer, and sadly, there is no “cure” for this late stage disease. Radiation and more chemotherapy can improve his quality and quantity of life, but things don’t look good.
I’m sorry for the sad news.

Q&A: What are the chances of me, and others born in the 90s, living past 100?
Question by Ed the Sophomore: What are the chances of me, and others born in the 90s, living past 100?
I was just wondering after reading this yahoo article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091001/hl_nm/us_ageing_populations ). Many in my family have lived to their 90s. My great-grandmothers are both still alive at 93..or 94. My great-grandad died at 88 & my great-aunt at 96 like 5 years ago, other great-grandad died around in his late ’60s or early ’70s two decades ago from lung cancer. My grandma is still going at 71, and grandpa died at 70 from lung cancer like his dad. So with history of most people in my family living long lives..is it possible I can too? I’m 15, don’t eat much junk food, exercise like 5 days a week (3 weightlifting & 2 cardio), and my percentage of body fat is below 10%. Also I don’t plan on drinking or smoking when I get older. I know it’s too early to tell, and I don’t want to jinx myself, but like I said above..just wondering.

I need to obtain a skill desperately. I am going to take a 3 week CNA class as soon as I am able to. I want to take a 10 month full time M-F LPN course. Its mandatory for your success to not miss any days. My mom is not yet sure.. if she will get chemo. That is her only option..other then waiting and monitoring the progress of cancer with tests. IF.. she decides to get Chemo. I will be driving her 1-2 times a week every 3 weeks for about 3-4 months. She was told she can take a few months off but.. that is it.. than she has to repeat the cycle. This cycle does not enable me to go to the LPN program for only 10 months. I need the LPN in order to succeed at paying my way in life when something happens to her. I am not sure how I can do this. We have no family or friends here to help me.. to take over while I did this. I am So.. scared that giving this opportunity up.. would set me up for disaster and eviction later on. A CNA.. won’t pay my way ultimately. It will in the meantime IF I choose to use it. Please Help.

I’m very sorry to hear about your situation. My family is also dealing with a similar situation. My fiance’s mother has late-stage small cell lung cancer and has had to leave her business for over two months. Here are some suggestions, but also I send you my good wishes and prayers:
The first thing I would look into is what your mother’s insurance covers, if she has insurance (I’m assuming so, since you’re talking about possible chemo). My mother-in-law’s insurance covered treatment in one of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. There’s several around the country. CTCA is super easy to contact, and they will fight your insurance company FOR you to get coverage. You just hand them the info. and they take care of it. Check it out here: http://www.cancercenter.com/ My fiance went with his mom and said that they are truly an amazing place.
The best part is, patients get to STAY in the center for as long as they’re being treated, AND they pay for the patient’s flight to the center. You wouldn’t have to worry about driving her. It’s really a good idea, because the centers are so awesome and have totally organic food, 24 hour care and ONLY cancer specialists working there. They focus on healing patients not just with drugs and machines, but spiritually and mentally. My mother-in-law chose to have acupuncture, daily prayers, physical therapy, a visit from a family member who flew in, and a counselor while she was there– all covered by the insurance because CTCA fought for her.
Okay, sorry, I didn’t mean to advertise for them, they have just really helped us through alot of stress. If your mother stayed there, you would have more time to get your schooling done. However, I would say that at this moment, the important thing is going to be your mother’s health, even if putting your career on hold hurts. Financially, there are other alternatives than the CNA/LPN route. I know it’s hard to get a job that pays the rent these days, but putting all your effort into getting that job rather than schooling would help more right now. Even getting those certifications, provided you were able to pay for and pass the courses, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get a job in that field. Stick with the more sure bet (a regular job) until your financial situation improves or your mom’s health becomes less of a problem.
You can contact your state government’s job center for resume help and job searching, an employment/temp. agency like Manpower, or search for jobs online at www.craigslist.com, where there’s tons of job listings, temporary gigs and where you can even post your resume or offer your services.
If and when you’re really facing eviction, you can apply to be a live-in nanny, an on-site apartment maintenance person/caretaker, or a house-sitter. Some banks and mortgage companies are allowing or even paying people with good references to stay in empty, foreclosed homes to do basic maintenance and prevent vandalism.
I also suggest contacting the American Cancer Society. They’re a research and charity organization that offers a great deal of support to cancer patients and their families.
Good luck!

I know what you can do to kill the cancer!!! First of all stay away from dairy products! Go to your nearest health food store, i like Supper Supplements, and get a whole body detox, and keep doing the detoxes until you feel better. What this will do is kill the cancer, pull all the toxicity from the blood, organs, intestines and colon. What a lot of people don’t know is that the colon is connected to everything in the body. So when the colon is sick, so are you. Please please eat everything organic, stay away from chemicals and fast food, if it isn’ t organic, it has chemicals. Now the reason why people get cancer in the first place is because of no ANTIOXIDANTS in the body, and too many free radicals, which cause cancer. And if your doing chemo therapy, this will destroy the antioxidants. So also get this: Green Vibrance, it has all the greens and oils you need everyday, Omega 3- take as much as possible everyday, B complex, lots of Flaxseed oil, eat tons and tons of tomatos and fruits that are dark colored, lots of water. If you are on any medicine, its not helping. And make sure that any vitimans you do get is ” whole food based” if it isn’t the body wont use it. I know someone who is dying from cancer and the doctor told him antioxidants and vitimans aren’t too good, but he was getting better, untill he listened to them and now he is dying. People forget that the primary goal for any business is to make money, and if there is no sick people, then who is going to buy their products and drugs? Not the helthy people! So do these things and do it now, don’t wait another day.
