How long does it take for lung cancer to start showing symptoms?
Question by : How long does it take for lung cancer to start showing symptoms?
I’m a 30 year old female; I smoked for about 12 years. I was looking through my military medical records (I’m active duty), and I came across some radiology reports from August 2006. I totally forgot about the x-rays (I had two sets). The findings of the first PA said “1.5 cm density in the medial left apex. The significance of this is unclear”. I had another PA and a lordotic about a month later. The findings were”Compared to the last exam. today’s PA view shoes slightly increased density slightly lateral to that previously seen. This could correspond to the previous observation. It is a rather faint density and may represent basically no pathology. This is not appreciated directly on the apical lordotic view.” I’m very worried now. This was over three years ago, and my doctor has never mentioned it. The military is typically very good about following up on test results. What does this mean?

I’d do a repeat x-ray and see what it shows.
A CT could put your mind at ease…….

How long can a person with stage 4 lymphatic survive with no treatment? The cancer was also on the skin.?
Question by : How long can a person with stage 4 lymphatic survive with no treatment? The cancer was also on the skin.?
It is also spreading to other locations. I want a definite answer, not any B.S. about living with hope. The docs said 6 months at the time of diagnosis. It has been 3, and the person is starting to get sick everyday really bad. Please a real answer so I can try to mentally prepare myself. Thanks in advance.
The start of the whole problem was colon cancer, that my mother-in-law never got treated. then there was a spot on her foot. It grew, and grew. She didn’t have it checked out because my Father-in-law was sick with pancreatic cancer and dying, and didn’t want to worry him any. I took her to the appointment when she found out about the colon rectal stuff. After my father-in-law passed away, My wife and I finally got her to go to the docs. They told her the spot on her foot was nothing, and she didn’t do anything about it. She went to her primary a couple months later because the spot got bigger, went to a specialist, and found out that it was cancer. Did blood work and found out that it was also in her lymph nodes. She had surgical removal of the melanoma on her foot. they did a graft from her side. It didn’t take. In fact it turned black and got all infected and looked like a zombie bit her foot. They did another surgery where they took the vein from her arm, put it in her foot. Skin f

Q&A: How long can a person be on chemo before it kills them?
Question by gddeal1: How long can a person be on chemo before it kills them?
My mother-in-law was told she will have to be on chemo for the rest of her life. She was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer 1 yr ago, after massive rounds of chemo & radition her tumor was gone. On her 9 month check up they found a tumor on her adrenal gland. She can’t have any more radition, but they put her back on chemo. She has been doing chemo again since aug. I know it will destroy your immune system, but what I am wondering if you can be on chemo for an extended amount of time. Her treatments are 5 days of chemo, & 16 days off. I know there are different types of drugs used & amounts, but I am just looking for a heads up.

This will vary greatly on her situation and the type of chemo they are using. Get a second opinion if you are not sure.

how long do you have to abuse alcohol to develop heart problems?/liver problems?
Question by : how long do you have to abuse alcohol to develop heart problems?/liver problems?
okay i’m 19 years old, i just turned 19 on october 25th, i’ve recently developed a drinking problem for over a year now. I started drinking originally when i was 12 but back then i wasn’t hooked on it, i only drank at christmas parties that my family threw once a year and i barely finished a 12 ounce can when i was age 12-16. Then in december 2009 it was the most drunk i got at the christmas parties since i’ve been going, back then i was able to go up to 11 months without drinking again. December 2010 is when i began to fly off the handle with drinking alcohol. My father god rest his soul, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer on october 28th 2010, and on january 12th 2011 he died, he was only 66 years old and i was only 18. I watched him deteriorate and cough up blood and even now i’m still shocked that he’s gone. After experimenting with 4 lokos in december 2010, i went on binges from january to august 2011. yes sometimes i could last 14 or 15 days without a drink but i’d slip up again. I still had problems with the drinking this year as well. I had binges in september, october, november, and december of 2011. I found that it’s much easier to stop but the cravings are still there. My greving process has gotten better since the end of february 2012, and i’ve been plugging away without depression and i’ve been loving life, life has been good lately i can’t complain. But I discovered that even on good days when i’m not greiving or having a bad day, i still wanna drink. I’m addicted to the buzzed feeling that alcohol gives you, that “high” feeling so to speak. That brings me to my question: is there a name of a medication that helps stop alcohol cravings? my therapist want’s me to see a psychiatrist so he can prescribe something to help me stop drinking. and also how long does it take to damage your body from alcohol use, i’ve abused it for over a year in large quantities is my heart damaged? can i get diabetes? is my liver badly damaged? or do i have to drink for years and years to cause that? i heard drinking excessively can cause A-FIB and heart problems do i have to worry about that at my age?
P.S: I just have to say that i have come a long way, after an entire year of taking care of my father, then watching him die i was depressed for months. Then in september and october of 2011 i was still depressed, i was so despondant i didn’t want to leave the house or hang out with friends, i just couldn’t bare the thought of living without him. Then the greiving got better and my life has turned around for the better, if i can only get my drinking under control. To all of you out there that lost a loved one IT IS POSSIBLE TO FEEL GOOD AGAIN AND ENJOY LIFE, cause i thought i would be depressed forever and i made it.
Best answer:
Answer by TheOneandOnly
If you’ve only been at it a year or so you probably haven’t permanently damaged anything. I drank very heavily for 4 years and it didn’t cause me any lasting damage. The liver does regenerate, and you’re pretty young for alcohol to cause heart problems.
It’s good that you want to stop, I would definitely try to find an AA group, the support from others is going to help you more than anything else.

Brain cancer -how long will a patient live for?
Question by ready_to_rumble: Brain cancer -how long will a patient live for?
I have a relative who was diagnosed with brain cancer about a year ago and he’s been doing chemo ever since. Unfortunately last week he was rushed to the ICU due to heart problems (caused by the chemo medication) and now one of his lungs has stopped functioning. Since then his chemo therapy has been stopped to prevent further heart issues.
Right now he can speak but it’s a little difficult to understand his words. Also the left side of his body was paralyzed a couple of months ago due to a seizure.
With all that said, does anybody know how long he will be around for? Thanks.
Best answer:
Answer by Jessica Laborde
It depends on what stage its at. If they can do surgery, if the chemo kills it. I had bone cancer. I know that chemo can kill you if you take too much. The cancer can also tho. Anyways I’m not saying the chemo will. It helps him. I would just pray on it. Know when he does go he won’t be in pain anymore. I’m sorry

My Brother has cancer in five places in his body he is in hospice how long will he live?
Question by bunny214@verizon.net: My Brother has cancer in five places in his body he is in hospice how long will he live?
My brother has lung cancer and pancreatic cancer, spine, skin. How long will he live .He is in Hospice now.
Best answer:
Answer by Jimmy Bennett
Well it depends on his body and his fighting will.. but most off the will TO survive.. but anyway
the body will give out before the body .. so it can be 1 day – months to years.. its possible
even if he is in stage 4 now.. depending on what treatments he’s gotten and what state he is in .. the cancer is still curable by means of alternative medicine..
Cancer is actually a microbe that is inside a cell and on the out side. This microbes lives in cells that lack an oxygenated state. Which means the Microbe can be killed with oxygen. *yeah i know its hard to believe but as you know or would like to know that Organized Medicine is there for money and profits and not really the truth.. Don’t blame your doctors always, cause they were trained and somewhat brainwashed to selling drugs and things that hurt you. Chemo for example can work but side effects are simple, they kill the good cells.. you don’t want to do this.
YOu have to attack the microbe it self then once that is done the cell it self will heal back to normal in 2 weeks to a up to a year or so depending on the area affected.
depending how open you are .. you can contact me on yahoo answers if your interested in the alternative approach to fixing your brother, its up to you .. If he does go or your family decides it.. hope he goes without pain..

It depends on a billion things and would be different for everyone.
And some people’s cancer gets caught at stage 1 and never goes to stage II and some people’s cancer gets caught at stage IV and they live a long time and maybe treatment can just make the stages go slower.

It really depends on the tissue type (smallcell lung cancer /squamous /large cell etc) and the degree to which the cancer has spread in the body. If this is small cell lung cancer usually less than 6 months. For others type of lung cancers at stage 4 it can range from a few weeks to 2 years.

I choke, I can barely eat. I can’t lay flat down. I am told that I might develop esophagual cancer.
What are my risks and also what are the cures and can it be beat.
Best answer:
Answer by BrainBabe
You will be very closely watched by your doctor…and there are very specific changes that occur way before it develops into cancer….after there are changes, you develop something called Barrett’s esophagus…and even then, only sometimes does cancer occur.
Relax, with your medical history, the doctors can detect anything before it should occur.

Q&A: i have lung cancer and have went through chemo and radiation, just wondering how long before my hair grows bac
Question by bsmclellan: i have lung cancer and have went through chemo and radiation, just wondering how long before my hair grows bac
Best answer:
Answer by RaptureWatch
My mom had stage 3 uterine cancer, underwent radiation and chemo, and also lost her hair.
I don’t recall the exact time frame it took for her hair to grow back, but I do know that 2 summers ago she only had a few sporadic hairs (a few months after the end of chemo), and by last summer she had a full head of hair. If I had to guess, I’d say about a year, give or take a month or two.
She wore wigs in the interim. I don’t know where she got them, but they were VERY nice and looked completely natural.
I don’t know if the type of cancer and/or type, level, and frequency of radiation/chemo makes a difference, but it might. Perhaps there is another patient where you received treatments that has similar specifics to yours who could provide a more accurate time frame.

is 2 weeks too long to wait for liver cancer?
Question by : is 2 weeks too long to wait for liver cancer?
A Ultrasound showed that my mom had a smaller tumor in her liver as well as several smaller growths. We just took a CT but the doctor said to wait 2 weeks for results. She doesn’t have all the symptoms but she does feel some discomfort in the liver region and has been full really quickly.
My question is, Is it too late if we wait 2 weeks for the diagnosis? Would the cancer have progressed too much?
Best answer:
Answer by Denisedds
If it is cancer you won’t wait 2 weeks because the radiologist will call her doctor.
Even if is cancer 2 weeks is not to long to wait. They would do a biopsy next anyway.

My dad has stage 4 melanoma skin cancer spread to the lungs how long will he have to live?
Question by Gina S: My dad has stage 4 melanoma skin cancer spread to the lungs how long will he have to live?
My dad has been struggling with cancer for about 4 yrs now. The first time the cancer was found in the bladder, kidneys. He now has only one kidney. Later he was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer at stage 3. Back in Nov 2007 he had a surgery removing some lymph nodes and then he began chemo shortly after which made him to sick and he quit taking it after about 3 wks. That was December07-Jan08 about 3wks ago in May 08 they found that the cancer has spread to the lungs and I believe there are 2nodes in each lung and now I was told my dad has stage 4 melanoma skin cancer. I just want some information I have a 10yr old son and his papaw is his world. My dad is only 54 yrs old I want to know what the lifspan is. All honesty be blunt I need to know and prepare myself and my son.
Best answer:
Answer by TC
First let me say that I feel for you and your child. I have seen melanoma take a mans life fairly quickly after it has metastasized. I did interval Sonography on a patient w/ late stage melanoma and once it went to the lung/liver it gets real aggressive; the prognosis for anything over six-month survival was grim.
