Some pellet wood stoves maintenance tips
Some pellet wood stoves maintenance tips
Article by Jane Reagan
For those people seeking to lower their energy cost, then wood pellet stoves are the way to go. And if you have one, then you understand how efficient and cost friendly it can be. The benefits of these stoves are numerous and you could be a partaker of the same if you choose to go this way. If you have a wood stove, then you should at least make sure that it is maintained well and regularly so as to maintain a brilliant flame and keep it from sending the smoke back to your house when you are warming the house. Wood pellet stoves are not like the rest of home stoves and due to the fact that they operate on wood for combustion, they may require more attention that the gas and petroleum based stoves. Below are some important tips that will help you in keeping your wood stove operating at an optimum condition.
Wood pellet stoves should have their door gasket replaced especially for those stoves that are made with an asbestos or fiberglass. You should pluck it out and shop for a replacement but make sure that you carry the old one with you when looking for the replacement. Most of these doors are normally thick but the thickness varies one from the other and if you are not very sure about the thickness of the one you seek to replace, take it with you to the dealer’s shop. If your wood stove contains an ash pan door that is separate it might require a replacement for the gasket on its own and you should consider this as well. You can also buy the gaskets for wood pellet stoves from numerous online dealers depending with the specific type that you are looking for.
Installing a gasket to your wood stove is not a very hard thing. Once you have removed the old one, together with the door of your stove clean the gasket feed using a screwdriver and after that use a coarse grade steel wool. Cut the gasket material once you have cleaned the surface to a length that is slightly longer that door’s perimeter so that you can be able to slip the ends next to each other. Apply a drop of gasket or silicon cement down the channel and force down the gasket into the prepared cement. Let it to dry and then reinstall the wood stove door in case you had removed it.
Most of the available wood pellet stoves are manufactured using plain ceramic doors that allow you to see through the flames inside the stove. You should replace the gaskets of these glass inserts from time to time but not at the same pace as the door gaskets. You should also do some repainting of the wood pellet stoves using the same high temperature coats after some time of use. This allows the stove to maintain a shiny and inviting to the eyes. Make sure that you do not over spray the finish but do it as it is supposed to be. In addition, your stove will remain operational and also clean even after many years.

Home Concierge Expert Presents Top 9 Home Maintenance Tips
Home Concierge Expert Presents Top 9 Home Maintenance Tips
Article by Scott Lane
If you own a home, you will certainly need to care for it well. This will not just make you proud but will also help in preserving the home so that it can serve you for a longer time. Good maintenance will also make your home more valuable, something that you can take advantage of in a number of ways. The problem is that many people find it challenging to maintain their homes well. Yet the home is such an important investment that you cannot take it for granted. Hence maintaining it is not something that you can choose to do or ignore, hence you need to be aware of how you should go about it.
Here are some important measures that will help in maintaining your home in a good condition.
1. Confirm where all important control points are located. These control points include main electrical breakers and plumbing valves. Seek the assistance of a professional if necessary, such as when the blueprint is not available. The benefits far outweigh the expense you will incur.
2. Enhance the safety of the home by making regular checks on the smoke detectors. Ensure that a qualified electrician checks them in case there is an indication of any fault. Position fire extinguishers close to the bedrooms and kitchen and let every person know where you have placed them and how to operate them. In case the home was built earlier than, it may be necessary to find a qualified inspector of dangerous materials to determine whether there are any harmful substances, which may include mold, mildew, paint with lead content, and asbestos.
3. Inspect the home on a regular basis and take note of anything unusual. For instance, do not ignore power flow or the presence of water at an unexpected spot.
4. Have a good understanding of the various components you use at home, including their life expectancy. Do not expect anything to serve you endlessly. As a rough guide, take note of these:- Paint lasts for about three years- The carpet may serve you for eight years- Water heaters usually take between ten and twelve years- Refrigerators usually last for between twelve and fifteen years- Electrical wiring can safely serve for between fifteen and twenty years- The roof may take about twenty years- The furnace has a maximum lifespan of twenty years- Plumbing lasts for about twenty five years
5. Take a home insurance policy, which will also give you a cost effective way of maintaining your home, as regular home inspections will be carried out relatively cheaply. The policy is particularly necessary in case the home is old.
6. Have a toolbox that will enable you to make some repairs on your own. The toolbox should include such tools as duct tape, pliers, philips-head and flat-head screwdrivers, hand saw, 3-foot ruler with stright edge, twine, lightweight claw hammer, and electrical outlet tester.
7. Get relevant skills, such as by enrolling in local workshops. You can learn such skills as tightening screws, shutting off plumbing valves, switching off corresponding power breakers when there is fault, cleaning gutters, stopping running toilet, replacing damaging window screens, and replacing tile grout.
8. Call a relevant professional in case there is any need. Do not embark on technical work if you do not have relevant skills. Let the experts do it. You should therefore have relevant contacts handy.
9. Save some money to take care of home maintenance. You will thus not be stuck in case there is need for some urgent repairs.
These measures will help you to keep your home in good condition always

What is a nice inexpensive, low maintenance pet?
Question by grizzhawk: What is a nice inexpensive, low maintenance pet?
I’m a 51 year old male living in an apartment, and looking for an inexpensive pet. I want to spend as little money as possible for the pet and the things it will need when I acquire it. And thereafter it should be low maintenance and its food, etc. should not be expensive. It should be something that can be handled and fairly interesting too. I had hamsters as a kid, and I’m considering one for myself now. Someone told me rats are very cool, but susceptible to lung ailments.

Can you break an apartment lease in Nevada due to lack of asbestos maintenance?
Question by Sophie: Can you break an apartment lease in Nevada due to lack of asbestos maintenance?
Best answer:
Answer by acermill
Only if the asbestos involved presents a health hazard to you. No, not ALL asbestos present on a property is a problem, as long as the asbestos is properly contained and fibers are prevented from entering the air. As an example, some ‘slate siding’ contains asbestos, and such is generally not an issue. The same applies to asbestos
contained in older floor covering.
In order to legally break your lease, you will need to clearly demonstrate (via tests) that there are asbestos fibers present which can be damaging to your health.
