Q&A: when are people going to relies that all tanning salons 100% cause melanoma skin cancer, wake up people it is?
Question by : when are people going to relies that all tanning salons 100% cause melanoma skin cancer, wake up people it is?
Melanoma is a deadly skin cancer, you get it from sun burns and all types of tanning, and especially from tanning salons, you increase your risk of this terminal cancer by 50% every time you go in the sun and in a tanning bed, this is not a cancer that is treatable once it has moved any where in your body, it is the fastest spreading cancer, and their has not been any treatment for this cancer in over 20 years, it is painful, spreads like wild fire and is not worth the tan. It usually does come back, god forbid you ever have had this please get PET scans, it is the only scan that can scan all body parts with a good vision, please stay out of the sun and tanning salons, i can not express this enough, please STOP this monster from getting you and any one else, lets spread these words to the world

I don’t go to tanning salons so this doesn’t really concern me (I tan naturally when in the sunlight). However, this isn’t very accurate information. I was wondering what your occupation is? Or where your “expertise” on the subject of melanoma comes from.
EDIT: I don’t go to the beach and tan, I said I tan naturally when I’m out in the sunlight without “trying” to get a tan. I just do.
Also, some of this information is correct, there is also awfully false information as well. Such as: If you tan at salons there’s 100% chance you will get melanoma. That means you will; it’s certain. It ISN’T certain. I don’t really give a damn, like I said before, I don’t “try to get a tan”. Whether with a spray on tan, a tanning salon or laying on the beach. So I quite object to being told “we’ll see how old and leathery I’ll get and how you will be young and smooth” because that’s just not the case.
EDIT: Please see your other post (the one where you’re bullying me)
EDIT: Okay listen, I’m not trying to call anyone anyone a liar, but to add to this, YES melanoma is a terrible disease and YES you increase your risks of getting melanoma by using tanning beds. That I agree with. The PET scan part I’m not gonna argue with although normally physical examination + biopsy is enough to diagnose the cancer. After that, other diagnostic imaging can be used to check for metastasis. If you are looking to spread awareness make sure you add that it is absolutely possible to get melanoma without the use of tanning beds or excess exposure to the sun’s radiation. Those simply dramatically increase your risk.
I’m sorry to the other answerer who thought that I “was always trying to be right”. That’s just not the case, and once again, I apologize.
I just want to make sure everyone understands I wasn’t trying to put this down.

Is it possible for Melanoma Cancer, a skin cancer, to spread to your lungs?
Question by : Is it possible for Melanoma Cancer, a skin cancer, to spread to your lungs?
My boyfriend is always trying to lie his way back into my life. This time, he has Melanoma that spread to his lungs. Just wanted to know if that was even possible.
Best answer:
Answer by Tommy
Yes. Once Melanoma has metastasized is can spread anywhere throughout the body’s lymphatic system. If it has spread, then it is possible that his cancer is in a more aggressive stage. Melanoma is relatively simple to treat and cure in early stages, however once it begins to spread beyond the initial location it becomes lethal very quickly. If you still care for the guy then I would advise you to offer a friendly shoulder (This doesnt mean you have to date), otherwise you may not get a chance to make amends later.

Back in Nov 2007 he had a surgery removing some lymph nodes and then he began chemo shortly after which made him to sick and he quit taking it after about 3 wks. That was December07-Jan08 about 3wks ago in May 08 they found that the cancer has spread to the lungs and I believe there are 2nodes in each lung and now I was told my dad has stage 4 melanoma skin cancer. I just want some information I have a 10yr old son and his papaw is his world. My dad is only 54 yrs old I want to know what the lifspan is. First let me say that I feel for you and your child. I have seen melanoma take a mans life fairly quickly after it has metastasized. I did interval Sonography on a patient w/ late stage melanoma and once it went to the lung/liver it gets real aggressive; the prognosis for anything over six-month survival was grim.

melanoma is a skin cancer how would it get to your lungs ? and how would it be treated ?
Question by themaggie5: melanoma is a skin cancer how would it get to your lungs ? and how would it be treated ?

Answer by KA
Many cancer cells can change how they act and stop holding on to their neighbors. Once that happens they can move through the layers of skin and typically through the lymph system into the blood. From there the cells can go anywhere and start growing there. The lungs have a lot of capillary surface area so that is a likely place for a cancerous cell to stop.
There are lots of treatments that it would take an oncologist to decide on, but radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, or a combination are a few of the treatments. If it is caught early before it metastasizes it can usually just be cut off of the skin before it causes any major damage.

First – I am sorry to hear about your Dad. Second, as you know there is no stage 5 in cancer, so he is terminal. We are talking months maybe even weeks, not years. If the cancer goes to his brain, your Dad could suffer confusion, and dementia. Not knowing much about his case, I can’t say much more. Right now, some of his confusion just may be related to the shock of his diagnosis and depression. Good Luck

Natural cures for melanoma?

I have melanoma, and my doctor does not know why since I have no sun damage and no family history of it. Seeing that the sun did not cause it, and staying out of the sun is an obvious but not relevant answer- is there anything that I can take, or a diet that may get rid of my cancer? My doctor is suggesting I go through chemo but I’d rather not just yet.
