and every time I just know and have faith that the tumors will stop growing or that they will shrink, etc. they never do. Every time I start up a new therapy it doesn’t work and because my faith was so high and because i was so confident and positive every time I pray or worship, or start a new therapy, etc. the devestation is that much greater when things go badly. It’s really starting to take it’s toll. I notice that i am in less emotional pain and confusion when i do not have so much faith. Now, I have started to have to go to a different specialist in a different state. I have to move my son out of his school and move closer to that hospital, away from my friends (I have no family other than my son and aging father). I know i have to keep believing, but it doesn’t seem good for me. Maybe is there someone out there to pray and believe for me? There are many many people who are doing the same in my churches and elsewhere, but I thought I’d post here too….
I suppose it may not be part of God’s plan to heal me, but I wish it were, because I just wanted to do so much for God’s glory and to help make this world a better place… that’s all I’ve EVER wanted. There is still so much i desire for this world. Things I haven’t been able to do yet, though I’ve tried so hard. I will never give up on God, but I don’t like having so much faith and then being devestated over and over when things keep going badly. I wish only that God would give me the conditions to grow faith and not have it die. Nevertheless, I will continue to believe in Jesus and follow Him, because I like and I believe in what He taught: unconditional and selfless love.
Yes, I’m planning for my son’s future as always… I have a close friend who my son is willed to, and we will stay in contact. We met only last year, but she is a good catholic and like a sister to me.
She also has a stable home and two other children my son’s age… I adore her children and they all get along very well.

If cancer is diagnosed early it can be taken care of easier. Maybe with just surgery or just chemo. After it has spread (metastasized) it will require stronger chemo and probably radiation.

Thank you for your beautiful, well thought out words of encouragement. However, I cannot throw out my bible. I love to love people unconditionally and selflessly. It is beautiful and it feeds my spirit. That’s why I love Jesus so much. That in itself is why He is salvation. (Although I do not require salvation in order to love Him). It causes alot of pain sometimes to love like that, because others often cannot love like that in return, leaving you out in the cold… it is because of this pain that many people are afraid of it and don’t practice it, (even believers) but Jesus explained to people why it is important that we do practice it and I agree with Him, therefore, I cannot throw out my bible…

With a diagnosis of cancer in the bowel, ovaries,abdominal lymph nodes as well as cervix and uterus.
The Dr’s can only treat with chemo, after six treatments, there is now a break for a few months. As the cancer starts to grow again more chemo…with no cure.
Anyone???
I am a primary caregiver to my sister..stranger things are happening and I have no control over the situation. I am of a mind that is now in her brain cells.

the most common symptoms, depending on the degree, are weakness, difficulty walking, seizures, and headaches. Other common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, blurry vision, or a change in a person’s alertness, mental capacity, memory, speech, or personality, even coma.
I dont believe in chemo. None of those I know who went to battle armed with chemo and radiation therapy survived..and their deaths werent easy. I know a few who survived after a long treatment using carrots and positive and jovial atmosphere at home and everywhere. often, the key is in the will to survive and in keeping the immune system intact.

You would need both drugs- one to treat the primary cancer and prevent further metastasis, and one to treat the new cancer.

Forgive me for the vague information but this is all I know.
My step mom is in her mid 50′s and had uterine cancer 10+ years ago before her and my dad met. She had a hysterectomy. About 2 years ago they found it had spread to her lymph nodes in her groin. She had chemo. Last year they found it had spread to her lungs and she is still going to chemotherapy (every 21 days). Lately she has been falling a lot, feels dizzy and knows she is going to fall but it happens so quick she can’t grab onto anything before going down. She does not faint or lose consciousness, her legs just give out and being that she is over 200 pounds it is very hard for her to get back up.
They have ruled out high blood sugar, high blood pressure and side effects from the chemo. She is going today for a CT scan on her brain to see if it has spread.
I know that no one here can tell me for sure but if a cancer has spread to the brain, are those some of the signs they may be experiencing?
Me being scared is the least of my worries. Of course I hope it hasn’t spread and there is a treatment for whatever is causing this but I just want to know. My mom has been battling breast cancer and mets for 13+ years now so I have been in very similar situations with her.

I don’t want to scare you to death, but, it very well could have. Cancer is when white blood cells multiply out of control, to the point, the body can’t sustain it’s self anymore. If the chemo hasn’t been doing any good for the poor women, this could be the case. Best of luck, let me know how everything goes

She went through the chemo after a mastectomy late last year. Three months after completing her chemo and radiation treatments, she was diagnosed with a number of brain tumours. These were removed surgically after she collapsed, and almost died from them. She has a “shadow” on her MRI but all the tumours were removed. Should I be as worried as I am now that it’s just a waiting game to see if/when it pops up again? They must have been growing while she was on chemo – now that she’s finished it, does it mean it start effecting her body as well? I’m so worried its making me ill – I’ve known her all my life and we are the same age. We’re 36.
Yaser – why am I afraid? Because cancer can not always be “just removed”. You don’t seem to understand how cancer works. Thanks for your answer though.

well, patients with tumours have to be observed for many years, in first year they are screened for metastasis every 3 months or so, then every 6 months for 2 years, and then once a year for 5 to 10 years (depend on the tumor and the case), all that I want to say that if now there is no tumors everything sounds good, see , all these metastases are originated from the same original tumor, so, by waiting only 6 months to one year after the original chemo if no growth happened it is more unlikely to find metastasis latter…. (think about it like this: otherwise what are these metastases wait for?)
so after 1 year of therapy if no metastases appeared we can be very glad, but however follow up keep on to make absolute sure…..
and why you are afraid??? if they appeared again they will be removed again, untill we remove all the small cells that escaped from the tumor at the very begining….. by growing they are just disclosing themselves to be removed one by one…..

with chemotherapy her doctors give her two and a half years, but she does not want to go through it again. She decided not to subject her body to those poisons and try more holistic healing methods. And she is able to live with that decision.
Her husband wants to take her traveling and make a “Bucket List” but she only wants life to continue on without any special considerations.
I am wondering if things go bad, how bad will they get and what kind of life can she expect to live in the meantime? I understand the harsh treatments of cancer, I have seen what the treatments can do and it takes a toll on a person, but wouldn’t facing death do the same thing?
How does one come to a decision like this, if it was your loved one would you try and change their minds, and how would you go about it? Or, would you honor their decision and make it as easy on them as possible?

the decisions concerning death and dying are very personal and each person needs to make those decisions to make themselves happy. They should be able to make there piece with God there own way and then be supported In their decision.

I have been stressing up and down for days. weeks actually. Just the past few days I found that I wake up every 2 hours or so in sweat, drenched. And I also have muscle twitches in legs and arms. One eye is usualy slightly blurry till I let water in it and leave it for 30 min after waking up. I don’t have a fever when I wake and am sweating. I don’t remember having a dream or anything like that. I have lost a lot of weight the past 2 months, about 7 lbs from 110 to 103 and only ate usually around 700 calories a day. I haven’t slept a full 8 hours in two weeks. I do have a appetite and eat but sometimes get indigestion following and need to take a BM. Does it sound like I have liver cancer? Yes or no? I am going to the doctor but I want a answer

Well, you don’t mention the biggest sign of a bad liver: that you’re bright yellow. So I can pretty much rule that out.

My grandmother, a 30+ year smoker recently went to the hospital in respiratory distress. They found a metastatic tumor on her R lung that is pressing against her windpipe. So far, they have also found a spot on her spine. My grandmother has had increased weakness, becoming too tired to do anything by noon generally. The oncology doctor at this point is only talking radiation. From what I have read, it looks like this (radiation) would only be used to treat symptoms & not actually help cure the cancer. Is this correct? Also, how long could she reasonably be expected to live? I know answers are not definitive because everyone is different, just trying to get an idea.

My grandfather has cancer in three different regions of the body. He has brain cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer. What is the rate of survival for these cancers with intense treatment? What are the chances more cancerous cells will metastasize in his body even if there is a chance of survival?
I kind of figured that, his brain cancer was found first. That tumor is inoperable and its the size of a egg. This tumor is located inside the left hemisphere, near Wernicke’s area and is affecting his speech. The most recent discovery is the spot on his lung, and I dont have much information on that one, and all I know from family is the conformation that he has prostate cancer. Three different cancers. I’m sure there’s little hope but I thought I would try to get some more information. Its very stressful not knowing what to expect from this. THanks for the answer

Wow that’s a doozie. I am really really sorry about that. Based on the information you gave, I would say that his odds of survival are well under 10%. Of course I can’t be certain, as I am not given much information aside from where the cancer is. Even if he receives that most intense treatment out there he still doesn’t have much more than a prayer.

‘Metastases’ is secondary spread of cancer from a primary site.
For example a patient with bowel cancer may develop secondaries or ‘metasteses’ in the lungs.
Once diagnosed with metastatic tumours patients are normally treated palliatively.

He has been battling the lung tumor for about 2 years. Recently it has grown to 8 cm. He is currently going through Chemo to try and shrink it down. We just found out he has a 2.6 cm tumor in his upper lobe portion of the brain. He will receive 15 consecutive radiation treatments for this. First question, is 2.6 cm tumor of the brain considered large? Second, has anyone had a similar experience? What should we expect? Please, don’t “sugar coat” your answers. I want the straight truth, even if it’s not good news. Thank you.

At this point it sounds like Palliative Care. (end if life care) All they can probably do is try to make him and your family as comfortable as things can be and as things progress.All you can expect is progression of these diseases.Im not sure if that is considered large but probably a good size and its not good at all that it is in his brain. Cancer is a terrible thing and is very sad and difficult to deal with. Just try to be happy with the time you will have

This is her second time getting cancer. She had cancer 8 years ago in the opposite armpit. She had chemo and has been cancer free until now. She lives in California and I live in Montana. Are there any programs that will help pay for my sister’s chemo and the other things she will need. I am unemployed as well and cannot afford her medical needs. Please help me with this. I lost my other sister in 2009 and she is my only sister left, and a baby sister at that. Thank you.

There are many hospitals that offer free care, or make a patient pay according to their income. You have to search. Call the American Cancer Society and they should be able to lead to the right places. A lot of people don’t have insurance and they get by.. You pay what you can when you can and they can’t say anything about it as long as they see you’re making a effort. So start looking, do research and your sister will get benefits. I wish her the best.
