I am having a biopsy in a couple of days. Any chance this could be anything but malignant? It was a relief to know its only in my right lung but I am still very scared..

Why Does Pouring Millions of Dollars into Cancer Research Often Do Nothing at All?
.Unfortunately, the basic assumption is wrong. The money “poured” into cancer research has markedly increased cancer survival. You have to realize that up until the mid-1940s there were no treatments for cancer and no one survived. Here’s whats happened in the past 50 years to childhood cancer survival (overall childhood survival is 82%; stjude.org) In adults its a little grimmer, but overall survival went from 50% in 1975 to 68% in 2006 (cancer.org). Overall, both the incidence and death rates for cancer are decreasing. So, how is this doing nothing at all? Incidence is down; death rate is down; survival is up. This didn’t just happen; it came from 50 years of a lot of people doing a lot of research. Decreased incidence is perhaps the hardest to argue and relate to research, but clearly research on prevention, carcinogens and cancer causes (smoking for example) played a role. It’s also helpful to realize a couple of things about research. The first is that it’s very often unsuccessful. The experiment was set up; the clinical trial was run; it didn’t work. but still costs a lot of money. Was that research or trial in vain? Hardly. Everything provides part of the answer, no matter how small. Some times it’s just a matter of learning “what not to do” so you can do it better next time. The other related thing, particularly true in cancer therapies, is that science often incremental. Small advances build understanding that lead to big advances or breakthroughs. Rarely does a …
New anti-smoking ads hold nothing back

Ex-smokers who lived to tell about their health struggles hitting the airwaves in an ad-campaign geared to make people kick the habit. “If you’re going to cut through the clutter, you have to have something to say that is of interest to people,” said USC Advertising Professor Karen Mallia. “Whether that’s for information or entertainment or shock there has to be something that gets their attention and grab them by the lapels, and I think that does that.” www.midlandsconnect.com

Q&A: The vet told us today our dog’s lungs are full of tumors and that she can do nothing for him. Right?
Question by Sydney T: The vet told us today our dog’s lungs are full of tumors and that she can do nothing for him. Right?
She said we could take him home for a day or two so we could say goodbye but we have to bring him back so that he can be put to sleep. She said it is probably advanced liver cancer causing all the tumors, we don’t want him to suffer but we love him so much and would do anything to save him.

are my lungs fine, i got nothing to worry about right?
Question by : are my lungs fine, i got nothing to worry about right?
Today i freaked out because a garbage bag ripped and it was full of white powdery stuff. It went up in the air and my mouth was open, it got in my hair and i panicked and went to the doctor. I was afraid that it was asbestos or something harmful to the lungs. The doctor listened to my lungs and said it all sounded fine. But i wasn’t convinced and i went to the ER and got a chest x-ray. It came back negative and that doctor also said everything is clear. But i keep worrying that maybe the chest x-ray isn’t reliable, it’s reliable right? If it says negative that’s what it means right? I happen to have a sinus infection from allergies so i can’t breathe too well because of that so that’s why i’m still worried. I’m also worried that it may take years for the damage that i might have caused from those 5 minutes of exposure to that powder stuff, to even show up on that x-ray. I’m still scared i just hope i’m out of breath because of my sinus infection.

Why would it show up years? This isn’t like an impending STD.
I understand your caution. if it bothers you that much go for another opinion. But you sound fine.

CARB is doing nothing, emissions ruin kids lungs
By doing nothing about auto and refinery emissions that permanently damage kids lungs, we’re agreeing to stunting the next generation, to lessened health and lessened quality of life. It’s not as if there’s no alternative. No one is forcing GM to make plug-in cars, and GM is suing CARB for the right to pollute the air. If GM were going to make oil-free cars, they would not fear higher CAFE mpg standards.
Civil unions won’t help: ‘Why should my wife get left with nothing?’
Diagnosed with an incurable lung cancer, Pat Baker of Johnston knows her time on Earth is short. Nonetheless, she spends her time testifying at the State House, lobbying her congressman and attending rallies in support of her civil rights as a gay woman. Her dying wish is to see her wife, Deborah Tevyaw, whom she married in Massachusetts, collect the Social Security benefits Baker earned as a correctional officer at the ACI. Legalizing civil unions in Rhode Island will not change that, but with the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) currently being challenged in court, she continues to rally for her cause. Q&A: Still nothing can be done for many types of cancer?
Question by wildhorsejones: Still nothing can be done for many types of cancer?
The public thinks science has cured cancer.
This is not true.
If you get pancreatic cancer most are dead
in 6 mo.s .
Same with kidney and multiple myeloma.
Stage 4 cancer and you are hopeless.
This is a matter of life and death.
Being told you have cancer is a nightmare like
you can not image.
Chemo is horriable.
Get up at daylight and sit there all day with
a big niddle in your arm.
Then it wears out your body.
A new dose every 30 days.
Take an MRI and the doctor says it has done nothing.
Radiation and chemo can give you cancer.
You have no idea what living with
constant fear for your life does to a person.
Nothing is worse than being told you are going to
die and the doctor can do nothing.

Q&A: Why do people feel we should give all to the homeless and nothing to the illegals who want to work?
Question by Pamela: Why do people feel we should give all to the homeless and nothing to the illegals who want to work?
I’m a little confused. Why is it that people feel that homeless people who have had every advantage given them in life, first and foremost being BORN here and schooled here and with all the same opportunities you and I have had to build a great life and achieve something deserve to be helped more than a starving Mexican family who risks their very lives to come here for no more than the opportunity to work hard and succeed?
I’m sick and tired of people in America wanting handouts to survive. Most people who are homeless are so because they CHOOSE to be! I have very personal experience with trying to help the homeless. I’m not saying this is true of ALL of them but most are unmotivated, uncaring, complacent people who have the Eeyore syndrome (woe is me).
By the way, it’s also ILLEGAL to live on the streets. Why don’t we look at this CRIME the same way we do with disgust at the CRIME of someone crossing the border to survive?
MANY illegals DO pay taxes! They contribute to a system that they can’t withdraw from. How do the homeless contribute? Do they pay taxes?
Best answer:
Answer by Anti-illegals are out to get me
I am an illegal immigrant, but even I have to disagree with you. Every person is not going to automatically be successful because they are born and schooled in the US. They don’t all have the same advantages & opportunities. You know why? Because all opportunities are given to illegal immigrants. Lucky me!

Does this mean there is nothing to worry about with the colon cancer surgery?
Question by Tuke1: Does this mean there is nothing to worry about with the colon cancer surgery?
My dad is 71 years old with a leaky heart valve. His cardiologist gave him clearance for the surgery. Does this mean there is nothing to worry about with the colon cancer surgery and that everything will go good
Best answer:
Answer by crossstitchkelly
There is always some risk with surgery, and by being over 70 and having heart problems, your father has 2 main risks. But his cardiologist has determined that the benefits of the surgery outweigh the risks of heart problems. Most likely the surgeon will take extra precautions because of the additional risk, such as using laproscopic or hand-assisted laproscopic surgery, which are slightly less invasive.

What can one do when one has nothing?
Question by Perso: What can one do when one has nothing?
Before answering please have full understanding of what Bi-polar syndrome and ADHD is.
So it goes like this I was born with bi-polar syndrome and ADHD so yes I am depressed (almost all the time) and also yes I think of suicide almost everyday. But after 19 years I am still here. I hate how most people think of this as not that big of a deal. I wake up feeling like I want to die for no reason. So understand that. Even with most of the shit life has dealt me I some how made it this far. Let me get to the point of my question. Having nothing. No father and my mother has been ill since I was born even before that. She has the same illnesses that I have and also more.(Diabetes, A tumor in her arm, Hepatitis, and Probably lung cancer soon. Yes we have been surviving on well-fair, as a matter of fact Ive lived in shelters and in and out of homes because of it. Yes at the age of 19 I am able to work Ive even held two jobs for a period of time and lost them. Why? I am physically able to work correct mentally, or emotionally no where near. Do I have family that can help? Probably but if they could why would i be writing this. See my psychiatrist told me that being depressed all the time ive developed some sort of mechanism which is how id like to say “thinking to the point of pain”. Why does pain arise because apparently I cant stop thinking. I should be on meds some would say, but ill tell you right now, they don’t work. The only thing ive found to help me for the past two years is weed. Dont judge, just think about it. It slows down my over processed mind because as we all know it makes ppl unfocused and as for depression, well whats the main thing weed does, it allows one to be at peace. It releases that which allows you to feel happy. In truth its actually a natural depressant, but i never feel that way. Ive done my research so dont say anything about it.
I dont know what to do. No career plans, still trying to finish one class for the past year just to get my diploma and my only place of security is probably going to die soon.
You know to me the ability to understand something is the definition of Intelligence. Like I understand that if I dont eat I will die and that if I dont work I cant eat. So I dont work and I barely eat. Do i Care in way yes and in a way no. What ive failed to understand is how is it that society has not yet to understand this; I NEED HELP.
So I ask you does that make me ignorant?
I use to be able to deal with it a lone time ago. The depression was never more then I could handle. It was only after the moment in time when I obtained eyes wide open that it all came down on me. That moment that every individual has that changes there perspective on the world. Ever since then life has been pecking at my heart body and soul.

You still have your health. ADHD and bipolarism may be as bad as you say, but they’re kinda iffy. Sometimes they can be mild, and sometimes work to your advantage. They’re not as severely debilitating as autism, for example. I mean, you’re able to work two jobs, so you certainly have more than nothing. Of course, you do have many disadvantages compared to others, such as a deceased father and sick mother. The world offers many ways for you to succeed, but it’s not going to be easy. One is education – finish up school, get your diplomat, and move on to college or trade school. Another way is by working and gaining experience. Then you’ll have money, money with which you can use to pay for a place to live in or a car to drive with. It doesn’t matter if you have a career plan or not. No one is going to follow their plan throughout their lives exactly. People change jobs and careers a lot. The world is constantly changing, and it needs its people to be able to do the same. What you have to do is take action, get your hands dirty, feet wet, etc. and be ready to shift gears when needed.

Tattoo ideas? PLEASE ANSWER even if you don’t like tattoos or know nothing about them?
Question by why do i need a label: Tattoo ideas? PLEASE ANSWER even if you don’t like tattoos or know nothing about them?
My mom had breast cancer which was cured but it spread to her lungs and it made it hard for her to breath… So later she died and shes creamated and we are going to throw her ashes in the ocean soon. So I want a tattoo that is JUST writing about my mom and breath or her passions in life and her passion for life. I found some tattoo sayings that I like….
Live with passion
love never dies
Each breath is a gift
Death will never separate us
I love these but I dont really want to copy what other people have. If you can think of some short saying or something that would be nice. If you can’t think of anything, then just tell me which word choice you like best that I already have up there.
Thanks so so much <3

I really like “Each breath is a gift” in this particular scenario, the fact that she had lung cancer, I think it’s a great portrayal.
I’m not feeling too creative as of now, I apologize, but it is okay to take other peoples idea’s, they are on the internet for a reason, they are really good. And if it means a lot to you, I think that’s all that matters with a tattoo.

Strange chest problem? Medical exams show NOTHING? Help?
Question by Bob J: Strange chest problem? Medical exams show NOTHING? Help?
I have this weird chest cramping/pain thing. It goes at both sides of the front of my chest. I thought it was something to do with the lungs but all medical exams show my lungs to be healthy.
I used to smoke (very lightly) but since this came up I quit. I also worked in asbestos removal for two months, VERY SAFELY of course (and there’s no evidence that this caused whatever I have- medical exams, chest x-ray, breathing tests, etc) yet I feel this thing is wrong, that it shouldn’t be there. I didn’t always have this….
Should I keep worrying or is this all in my head? What should I do?

Chest pain is a common symptom that is caused by many different conditions. Some causes require prompt medical attention, such as angina, heart attack, or tearing of the aorta. Other causes of chest pain that may not require immediate medical intervention include spasm of the esophagus, gallbladder attack, or inflammation of the chest wall. An accurate diagnosis is important in providing proper treatment to patients with chest pain.
Angina (angina pectoris – Latin for squeezing of the chest) is chest discomfort that occurs when there is a decreased blood oxygen supply to an area of the heart muscle. In most cases, the lack of blood supply is due to a narrowing of the coronary arteries as a result of arteriosclerosis.
Angina is usually felt as:
pressure,
heaviness,
tightening,
squeezing, or
aching across the chest, particularly behind the breastbone.
This pain often radiates to the neck, jaw, arms, back, or even the teeth.
Patients may also suffer:
indigestion,
heartburn,
weakness,
sweating,
nausea,
cramping, and
shortness of breath.
Angina usually occurs during exertion, severe emotional stress, or after a heavy meal. During these periods, the heart muscle demands more blood oxygen than the narrowed coronary arteries can deliver. Angina typically lasts from 1 to 15 minutes and is relieved by rest or by placing a nitroglycerin tablet under the tongue. Nitroglycerin relaxes the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. Both rest and nitroglycerin decrease the heart muscles demand for oxygen, thus relieving angina.
Angina is classified in one of two types: 1) stable angina or 2) unstable angina.
Hope that gives you some help…

I was diagnosed type 2 diabetes 10 years ago. My sugar levels stay good, unless I eat something I shouldn’t (like high sugar foods, like corn, grapes, and bananas)… then I get extremely thirsty, somewhat dizzy, and really very sleepy.
Get your doctor to do another GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test).
Good luck, and feel better soon.

Asbestos in my university owned apartment and nothing is being done?
Question by CollegeStudent: Asbestos in my university owned apartment and nothing is being done?
I signed a lease for the on-campus apartment complex called “Bannockburn” at UC Riverside this morning. I was looking up stuff on it this afternoon out of curiosity, and in the Housing Handbook from 2009 it says that they found asbestos in the entire complex, mainly in the ceilings and attics. You’re not supposed to vacuum ceiling particles from the floor, poke holes in the wall, for fear that it will become airborne and your health will be at risk. My question:
Is the University allowed to do this legally? Are they allowed to have me move in to Bannockburn and *not* tell me about the known asbestos? They did not tell me it was there. My boyfriend has lived at Bannockburn for a year and had no idea that it was there either, until I told him. They are taking no action to get rid of the asbestos. I have a close family member that died from mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure and am very concerned for my health after a year of living here. I have no other housing options at this point. Is this legal? Can I take action against the University to fix this? I am not just concerned for my own health–I’m concerned for their lack of regard for the health of their students that are living here…

Your university probably found a loop hole and will most likely argue they informed you about the asbestos since they printed it in the handbook which i imagine would lead them to say you stay there at your own risk but if you make a fuss about it i’m pretty sure they’ll do something about it to keep you quiet but i doubt the legality of the situation you should consult the university and pursue real legal advice as i’m only fourteen
