Marijuana vs. Alcohol what’s your opinion?
Question by Kylee L: Marijuana vs. Alcohol what’s your opinion?
Here is a question that i am curious to see how many people will give an honest answer. Which do you prefer to be legalized Marijuana or Alcohol? Below are just a few facts about both…. (I did look up the facts that are posted on both marijuana and Alcohol I did not just make up these facts myself) I will try and post 10 facts each
Marijuana: #1 If Pot were legalized the prison industry would be hurt. They would no longer jail Pot smokers. It could free up space for violent criminals. #2 Pot is a sexual stimulant. #3 Pot is 100% natural nothing about it has man made chemicals in it. #4 There has never been a car accident death due to a stoned driver, just some slow drivers and may be some lost drivers . #5 Pot is used for medical use in MANY situations. #6 it is a myth that marijuana is a gate way drug. #7 Pot will cause some short term memory loss. #8 Pot will give you the Munchies, It could cause you to gain weight. #9 Marijuana smokers show dysregulated growth of epithelial cells in their lung tissue, which could lead to cancer; however, a recent case-controlled study found no positive associations between marijuana use and lung, upper respiratory, or upper digestive tract cancers. Thus, the link between marijuana smoking and these cancers remains unsubstantiated at this time, but marijuana smokers have some of the same problems as cigarette smokers coughing, mucus, sore lungs, etc. #10 Marijuana make most people more relaxed. It relieves the clutter and tension after a hard days work or stress. It mellows you out and makes you more relaxed. It heightens the imagination and improves creativity. If you have a problem with anger, Pot is usually a good drug to reduce it, no one has ever died from smoking marijuana.
Alcohol: #1 In VERY SMALL amounts, alcohol can help a person feel more relaxed or less anxious. #2 Alcohol actually blocks some of the messages trying to get to the brain. This alters a person’s perceptions, emotions, movement, vision, and hearing. #3 Depending on the person, intoxication can make someone very friendly and talkative or very aggressive and angry. #4 Reaction times are slowed dramatically — which is why people are told not to drink and drive. People who are intoxicated may think they’re moving properly when they’re not. They may act totally out of character. #5 When large amounts of alcohol are consumed in a short period of time, alcohol poisoning can result. Alcohol poisoning is exactly what it sounds like — the body has become poisoned by large amounts of alcohol. Violent vomiting is usually the first symptom of alcohol poisoning. Extreme sleepiness, unconsciousness, difficulty breathing, dangerously low blood sugar, seizures, and even death may result. #6 One half of all drowning deaths among teen guys are related to alcohol use. Use of alcohol greatly increases the chance that a teen will be involved in a car crash, homicide, or suicide. #7 Teen drinkers are more likely to get fat or have health problems, too. One study by the University of Washington found that people who regularly had five or more drinks in a row starting at age 13 were much more likely to be overweight or have high blood pressure by age 24 than their non drinking peers. People who continue drinking heavily well into adulthood risk damaging their organs, such as the liver, heart, and brain. #8 The strongest medical evidence exists for the link between moderate drinking and a reduced risk of heart disease. #9 Alcohol has been linked to liver disease, cancers, heart damage and strokes when consumed in larger amounts, and even small doses can lead to accidents, Each year, approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking; this includes about 1,900 deaths from motor vehicle crashes, 1,600 as a result of homicides, 300 from suicide, as well

In my opinion i think it’s safer to smoke a joint than it is to drink a beer, the most dangerous thing about marijuana is getting caught with it. you can google all this info your self before you answer i do not smoke or drink and i do not condone any of the above this is just my opinion on the subject, & I am just curious as to what every ones opinion is on the subject. I am just a homemaker and not any form of government at all or anything like that. Also I looked every were for something good about drinking alcohol and found VERY limited info on it, so please don’t think this info posted is one sided for marijuana being good for you, I just found that using google as info finder it’s easier to find good things about using pot than using beer.

If marijuana was leagalized a lot of dealers would be out a job.
and alcohol is legal at a certain age.
but if that age was lowered than we’d certainly have a lot of issues among the younger age, even though they have access to it already.
But my opinion. smoking is a lot more healthy than drinking, and you don’t have a hangover the next day. so def smoking.

My uneducated theory on cancer, and your opinion?
Question by humbledbee: My uneducated theory on cancer, and your opinion?
I had a theory on cancer, but i’d like you to keep in mind that i have no medical knowledge. I do know that cancer is an abnormal growth.
I was thinking about how smokers hurt their longs over a long period of time. My theory is that the smoker hurts their lungs while their healing. In theory this can end up causing cancer. I know cancer is caused by many of things, but i think if tissue is damaged while it’s healing, and if this damage while healing takes place over a year or more, it can result in cancer.
So if that theory is true, then maybe if the infected area was injected with something that prevents healing to take place, maybe that would stop the cancer from spreading any further.
What is your opinion on this?

Q&A: Should my dad get a second opinion on his cancer? Please read/share stories?
Question by : Should my dad get a second opinion on his cancer? Please read/share stories?
Hi I am 21 and my dad is 53. What Monday’s dr appointment started as just a pain in his side no symptoms Wednesday turned into it being cancer Fridays colonoscopy confirmed it and he was referred to a cancer dr the gi dr said surgery and chemo should do it that the tumors were so small that it should be stage one. Prognosis was good..at that point. Appointment with the cancer doctor today revealed the worst fear of it being stage 4 there is a small tumor in Colin small tumor in liver and spots on lungs and kidney. The dr says 12 months no chemo 3 years with chemo…it just doesn’t seem right maybe I’m in denial but he has no symptoms at all he feels great now today he gets a death sentence? We are in baton rouge la and I’m assuming he went to our lady of the lake. I’m not looking for false hope just honest opionions of if we should bother getting a second opionion and if so..where? Thank you for your help and thoughts

Answer by Tarkarri
This is one of the problems with cancer – it can be very sneaky.
Many cancers show no symptoms until well advanced, in the case of your father stage 4.
With metastasis to so many areas – all important organs – surgery is difficult if not impossible.
Chemo can often slow the growth, but it does come with side effects.
You say he had no symptoms, but the pain in his side was one. He may have had this for some time, slowly getting worse until he felt the need to go to the Dr.
Cancer is very unpredictable. The Dr has given his prognosis based on his experience with other patients in simillar situations. It is unlikely that a different Dr would give much different answers.
Your father needs to make some decisions and as hard as it is, you need to accept whatever decision he makes and support him through that.

Q&A: Convince me why marijuana should be illegal, can you change my opinion?
Question by : Convince me why marijuana should be illegal, can you change my opinion?
but before you do, understand the gateway theory has been disproven because only ~10% move on to harder drugs, which goes with ~10% having addictive personalities anyway, plus caffeine is the generally the first drug (stimulant) people try. Also no records of lung cancer from marijuana smoke alone. No “real” chance of overdose. Prohibition leads to black market which leads to crime, and it has medical benefits recognized by many reputable sources. The american medical association included.
So whats the problem? please tell me your concerns with this seemingly miracle plant. try and change my opinion. Convince me it is better to stay illegal. Please, but beware, if you do not have reputable sources to back up your claims it will not be taken seriously and brushed off as misinformation. I will provide published scientific studies if you think my above claims are false.
thanks in advance
i also agree that it should be regulated at at least 18+, and thank you Winnona for sharing your experience, I agree as well that it can contribute to laziness in some individuals and i would like to share my experience with that as well… I started smoking regularly at about 14, young i know. I was also in with the wrong crowd and not taking school seriously (2.8 gpa) The crowd were the depressed goth types and while i did blend in well enough, I was different because I wasn’t depressed or suicidal. Many of my friends at the time were in and out of psych wards for attempting suicide. They had no drive and I thank my parents for the lessons taught about life. But perhaps the thing that changed me most was getting kicked out of HS my freshman year, for of course, smoking pot. While in the juvenile hall a guard taught me the most valuable lesson I’ve ever learned. He taught me that there was a time for work and a time for play, to smoke only at my house and avoid traveling with mary at
all costs. (no lie he really said that) During my time at the alternative school, which was military/prison like in that it was very strict with a system of minor rewards for good behavior (flavored milk at lunch, salt and pepper, allowed to clean the building, which beat doing busy work in class). It provided great structure and a sense of pride in what I could earn for good behavior. we we’re forced to do physical training every day, rain or snow. Basically it taught me how to play the game of life, and reinforced positive behavior. Plus the teachers all WANTED to be there, so they actually taught and understood they had to change your outlook. When I went back to my HS after 86 days (let out early for good behavior) I had a new outlook. Keep in mind at this point the longest i went without smoking was a few weeks to pass a drug test. I knew that if I played by their rules I could manipulate the system to better suit my needs, while still smoking. The difference was I would smoke on
ly when I finished my homework or could put it off. My “friends” ,looking back, we’re all loser typical drug addicts with no drive. but i was smart enough to leave that group and instead befriend individuals who shared similar goals some smoke some don’t. Now i’m in my fourth year of college pursing a degree in psychology as well as nursing. with bachelors in both (7 year plan cause I’ve changed majors so much). My best friend who also smokes regularly (5< times a week) is pursuing a masters in industrial psych and OWNS his own computer shop. He's only 20. That shop will pay for his graduate program. We both only smoke at night or when our hectic schedules permit. We both have moved out, payed for our own cars, work, and go to school. We are the not your stereotypical "stoners" but we are responsible, and the more I meet successful people the more i realize how underground our subculture is. We know our obligations and will not choose to get high over achieving our goals, and we certa
inly don't advertise it for fear of false social stigmas associated with the drug. Once again, unfortunately, I was recently charged with a citation when cops busted our first housewarming party. (long story) I now have to go in front of a court and present my. case in hopes my scholarships won't be denied. I really don't want to take out student loans or have the stigma of a drug conviction on my record. Possibly voiding my future degrees and hard work. So tell me now, should I be labeled a criminal for the rest of my life because of a small amount of pot? or should the social stigmas and hardships faced, directly related to the current laws surrounding it be abandoned? We the poster children of responsible use. We are the professional stoner class. We don't campaign or talk about it openly because of fear of criticism and loss of respect.
and hog B you couldn't be more correct with your satirical observations. I have been robbed. I have been in the presence of guns and people willing to use it over <$ 40 of a plant. I have been offered much harder drugs by the pusher. I've had friends robbed at gunpoint and beaten over petty offenses to respect (asking to see the bag on scales/ suggesting it was short). All this because we didn't have access (at the time) to safe and reliable means of obtaining our drug of choice.
We need these open debates, because the facts are obvious. The only problem with pot is the laws. It's interesting because the DEA will not openly debate on a national stage the pros and cons of decriminalization/ legalization. And even went as far to issue a book on how to handle debates. the title? "How to hold your own in a legalization debate" (google it) Not how to WIN a legalization debate. Knowledge is power. Now here is a quote that supports the topic to a degree
“Prohibition… goes beyond the bounds
of reason in that it attempts to control a man’s appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.” — Abraham Lincoln, December 1840″
sorry for the rant. I'm just tired of feeling like a criminal for something that should be a personal choice. If you get lazy when you smoke, don't smoke. If you can handle it and take care of your responsibilities then what is the problem? The only argument with any merit at all was one person's personal experience. That's a biased few, even though you said you can't speak for everyone else, you also said I have my head in the sand and am drifting in life. That is just insulting to suggest that I or anyone else who smokes is the stereotypical stoner, That is the new fear campaign. I will be sober again for a few weeks to pass some drug tests. And perhaps that is when I will start actively campaigning. I AM NOT A CRIMINAL

Would it be bad to make my college essay about my lung disease? Please give me your honest opinion!?
Question by : Would it be bad to make my college essay about my lung disease? Please give me your honest opinion!?
Okay so my college essay prompt is to explain a significant experience that I have gone through and how it has impacted my life. I have cystic fibrosis, a severe lung disease and I want to write about how it has impacted my life. I won’t be writing a oh pity me essay instead I wanted to talk about how it has made me a stronger person. I want to make my point that I have an illness to deal with on top of school & hobbies etc. yet it doesn’t bring me down.. I am in ap and honors classes, I am in a ton of clubs, I make movies outside of school.
I want to write about this & make it into a cool story since I’m creative, but my mom doesn’t think I should even bring up my disease in my college essay because she thinks my illness will discourage the colleges reading my essay from accepting me into their school because I have a disease. What do you think? Wouldn’t the colleges reading my college essay be impressed that I have this disease and yet it doesn’t slow me down, rather I excelled in high school. Any thoughts? Advice?

Scattered parenchymal densities in both mid lungs extending into the hilum. Dotor said I need ans endoscopy done, I am thing more on a PET scan. Cancer is in the family.
Best answer:
Answer by Keith
I am not a Physician however, I am an RN and have seen my fair share of CT reports and yours is obviously worrisome. An “endoscopy”, more specifically, a bronchoscopy is very appropriate so that biopsies can be taken and reviewed by a Pathologist for definitive diagnosis and staging, etc. A PET scan will likely be appropriate in the near future for further evaluation, but the biopsy would likely be more helpful to assist your Physicians in determining your diagnosis and treatment options at this point. I wish you the best.

Answer by TheHonorableReese
I’m sorry. Small cell lung cancer with brain metastisis is an extremely deadly form of cancer. As far as length of survival time, it’s very hard to tell, even for doctors with all the right tools. As a nurse, I’ve seen some people who were supposed to live for weeks live for months, some who were supposed to live for months live for years. A lot of it seems to depend on attitude. The people who mentally give up faster usually have bodies that give out faster, while those that maintain good spirits and enjoy what’s left of their lives seem to have longer and more functional time to live. That’s not exact science, but that’s what I have seen. Either way, best of luck to her and to you.

Legalization of marijuana. Your opinion & How close to reality is it to you?
Question by Lance746: Legalization of marijuana. Your opinion & How close to reality is it to you?
I personally favor towards the legalization of such, where it has the most medically benefited herb that’s able to grow nearly anywhere. Where it actually stimulates brain cells and does not cause neck/lung cancer but only if smoked from a wrap (blunt;joint) etc or cannabis alone. Not 1 case has a person died from over smoking it (Google it!). Where the addiction to coffee is a higher rate then the addiction to marijuana. Where it was once outlawed for the fact of brutality/inhuman behaviors but then re-outlawed for turning the person pacifist.
Yes, it is true that teens have been counted for the highest amount in addiction clinics then any other substances, this must mean its the addictive substance today right? yes, but what the DEA doesn’t tell you why its true. When a kid is caught possessed/smoking it with such, is offered in court there offered to go to a treatment center or a horrible penalty, but if he goes to treatment (obviously treatment) where he’s classified as a addict., the DEA gets the point to that stat and states “oh look at all these kids in treatment, this isn’t the same marijuana that your parents were smoking.
Only about 3-5% are there voluntarily the rest either sent by parent/court ruled.
Well its the “gate-way” drug right? When 1 out of 104 smokers have moved to cocaine and less then 1 uses heroine. When 50,000,000 Americans smoke it & Steve Jobs invented Apple smoking marijuana, Ted Turner devolped CNN smoking pot, and still smoked a joint everyday.
Well that’s just me, what about you?
Also! De-criminalize it!

Do I have lung cancer?? Everyones opinion please?
Question by Stephy: Do I have lung cancer?? Everyones opinion please?
I started smoking when I was 13. I LOVED it so much that I chained smoke constantly.
i lived for smoking everyday i looked forward to it coming home from school
here’s the down fall, I am also an asthmetic, one with bad asthma.
didn’t stop me I was severely depressed I didn’t know why I really didn’t
uhh – in 9th grade was the first time i experienced pain in my chest it would leave a very sharp pain first one in my left rib cage lasted a few months before it stoped hurting
then i got one in the center of my chest i couldn’t do push ups or it would cause it
I started meditation almost 2 years ago, and now I am wondering if it was to be able to listen to my bodys needs.
I’ve had a cough for a few years and right now i am moving all funny because this pain in the right of my chest is very uncomfortable it hruts to breath and i can’t understand why my right arm keeps trying to go numb
my back has had pains fora year and a half, a few months after I got very very good at meditation to where it became my obsession
i came to undersatnd everything intuitively and I wonder if it was to listen to myself.
my heart has been hrting for almost a year as if it was trying to tell me something i lay down in bed told it to show me and thats when i started feeling where the pain is involved, in my right breast and it’s as if there s a big hole there (i have no boobs so it could easily be felt
my spine when it use to hurt badly i felt fluid – that wouldn’t flow this is what my intuition told me as well
it shows me holes in my lungs
and i avoid breathing through my lungs and right now i am to avoid the numbness and it feels very cold
my lungs hurt and i have been in pain for almost two years i can’t handle it anymore i can’t live normally i try everything today i’m getting a chest xray but i want to know everyones opinions so in case that goes wrong i have others opinions to base things off
please help me
i can’t do this anymore and i need people so bad but i have scared everyone away in my anxiety it hurts
it hurts so bad my brain gives off chemicals so i don’t have to feel it i’m living in a world of imagination and i don’t know why i can’t feel peoples touches i can’t feel pleasure i am living inside my head what is wrong with meee
as to the second person yes you are very right i have gone to doctors though and none of them can give me what i’ve been needing and actually believing me when i say i’m in PAIN i’ve known pain all my life.
i’m not going to let any stupid doctors get in the way of finding out what it is though – but this is my reasoning for more opinions becaues all of the ones i’ve been given have been correct and the more i get the more i can bass off god damn it i just need that freaking x ray that’s the only proof i can get i want these mind games to stop :c

Best answer:
Answer by rocknrollnobody
With chest pains of any type, you MUST see a doctor.
It may or may not be your lungs, after all, many people smoke from around 13-14 and suffer no ill affects, but you should definitely get checked out. They will most likely run and X-Ray and then maybe a couple of ECG’s to confirm your heart is doing it’s job properly, and then you’ll have a better idea of what’s going on.
Get to your doctor ASAP, and get this sorted out. You can’t go on living with chronic pain and not knowing what’s causing it.

first of all, my grandparents (nana & bubba) mean the world to me, so last summer when my nana (grandma) got really sick i got a tattoo on my back of two butterflies, one for her & one for me that represent strength and beauty which is what she taught me about growing up. but i just recently found out that my bubba (grandpa) has lung cancer and is dying. so ive decided to get a tattoo of the lung cancer ribbon and put it on my ankle, its going to be outlined in gold and coloured in white. will that hurt alot, and do you think i would regret it and should put it somewhere else?

I think you should try to incorporate something into the butterflies to represent him. Maybe have a ribbon circling around them (utilizing depth of space)?

19 Year old, Caucasian male needs opinion on whether at risk of lung cancer. AKA should I see doc ASAP?
Question by Maybon: 19 Year old, Caucasian male needs opinion on whether at risk of lung cancer. AKA should I see doc ASAP?
I am a smoker have smoked for around 5 years, currently I have decided to quit and am currently smoking less than 5 smokes a day. However my question relates to lung cancer; I have had around 8 bronchial infections and pneumonia once. A little over a week ago I coughed up a rather nasty looking bit of phlegm with what looked like a vein/artery in it (some blood). This caused me to become anxious about it, I have read that no-one really gets lung cancer at my age but I have a few symptoms that I have read online. These include:
- Coughing up blood
- Pain in my lower right end of ribcage that wont go away (hurts more if I lie face down)
- Smoker (was mainly marijuana through water pipe, also cigarettes though)
- Loss of appetite
- Dropped from 70-65Kg
I also should note that the loss of appetite may be a withdrawal symptom of quitting marijuana (about a month ago) and I have what I am guessing is an inflamed lymph node or thyroid gland on neck. Next to my collar bone in the center of my neck which is about 1+1/2cm X 1/2cm.
Should I be worried and see my GP ASAP? or should I just mention it next time I visit? or is there virtually no risk of someone my age getting lung cancer? Very worried about it.
Thanks in advance!
I depended on marijuana to eat and sleep and for a couple of days after quitting was unable to sleep and ate about 1/2 a meal a day. Other than that I know there’s no physical withdrawals, I’d say both those things are mental dependencies for me anyway.
Cheers for the advice, I’ll see my doc tomorrow.

Certainly if you have questions such as these, it’s best to get an exam now – cancer is not particular in whom it strikes and age is not relevant. You will find that when you quit or even decrease your level of smoking, you will start coughing up some terrifically bad stuff as your lungs clear out the nicotine and tar from the cigarettes and marijuana (even if it was through a water pipe). Some of it can look pretty much like dried blood and comes up in (disgusting) chunks. But contact your GP and take whatever advice the GP gives you as far as getting examined. Since you’ve been prone to lung problems, the GP may think it’s better for you to come in right away.
