Sentinel node biopsy is an effective less invasive option for early-stage cervical cancer patients
Fabrice Lecuru, MD, PhD, George Pompidou European Hospital, Paris, France, speaking at ASCO 2009: Sentinel Node Biopsy Is Effective, Less Invasive Option for Early-Stage Cervical Cancer Patients, Compared with Current Standard: A prospective multicenter study conducted by researchers in France suggests that the majority of women with early-stage cervical cancer can safely undergo sentinel node (SN) biopsy a technique in which only one to three lymph nodes are removed to determine whether cancer has spread in lieu of the traditional, more invasive pelvic lymph node removal. This study showed that SN biopsy was just as useful as full pelvic lymph node removal for identifying even small amounts of cancer cells that spread to lymph nodes in atypical areas of the pelvis.

what should i do if owe-bama and the dems pass a public option?
Question by 60 min man: what should i do if owe-bama and the dems pass a public option?
my wife has breast cancer that spread to brain cancer. i would guess that over the past five years our insurance company has spent close to two million dollars for her treatments. we have been in treatment for about six years now. we pay for our insurance but if the opublic option is available to us as we make less than $ 40,000, should we continue to pay our premiums or just convert to the public plan so that we do not have to pay and let the taxpayer pay for the next two million? thanks

The element Se has been increasingly studied as a nutrient and possible treatment option of cancer. What would be the formula of the compound formed between Se and Cl?
A SeCl
B SeCl3
C SeCl4
D SeCl5
Best answer:
Answer by Chad
SeCl4 is likely the answer you are after. Se also forms a Se2Cl2 chloride.
to figure this out…Chloride occurs most ofter in the -1 state.
Se is in group 6 which means my first guess would be +6 for loss of all its outer shell electrons. Since that is not an answer, the next obvious choice would be loss of its P-orbital electrons which would be +4 or SeCl4.

Cancer Screening: Why It’s Not Always an Option

Cancer Screening: Why It’s Not Always an Option More info: bit.ly Screening for some rare types of cancer is not always effective and may not help with prevention or early detection. Therese Bevers, MD, medical director of the Cancer Prevention Center at MD Anderson, explains why. Video transcript: But there are reasons not to screen an individual. There are some rare cancers that are so rare that they affect a very, very tiny portion of the population. The cancer may not cause significant illness or death and, for example, like the basal cell carcinoma. It doesn’t tend to cause death and it’s pretty straight forward in its treatment so we don’t, for many, need to be doing screenings for it. In some cases, earlier diagnosis doesn’t lead to a better outcome. For lung cancer, that’s been the history we’ve had as we hadn’t been able to catch lung cancer at an early more treatable stage but I’ve got some exciting news for you in a little bit to tell you on that. And in some cases, there is no effective treatment and there’s not really a good reason to be looking for a cancer if we don’t have something to offer you to treat it. Answer by Tina
I am not a doctor first off. I’ve had cancer and survived 12 years so far. First, she needs to have the PET scan to see if there are anymore mets anywhere. with the mets that low in the back, I would be worried about ovarian or uterine mets too. The shoulders and lower back are quite a distance apart, I would wait until the pet scan before I considered more treatment options but I do think she will need chemo to beat it.

PLEASE HELP!! Is surgery the best option?
Question by : PLEASE HELP!! Is surgery the best option?
My husband is 24 years old. He is a healthy young man who eats a bit more junk food that he should, but he ir normal in every way. He doesn’t have cancer in his family history. We live in Bogotá, Colombia, so pardon my english.
About two months ago, he started feeling asfixiated fron normal activities such as walking at normal pace, or laughing. Then he got shoulder issues, pains that extended to his arm, in the left side. Then, like two weeks past this, he started coughing, real bad, like dry cough.
On July 19th we went to the ER ’cause his cough got worse. After a very long day, some random intern took an xray to his chest, and a CAT/CT scan, both showing a 15x10x8cm unidentified mass in the mediastinal area, just between the lungs and pressing a bit the heart. As you can imagine our freakout was awful, considering the size of the thing. Even more so when this rookie intern tell us that it is definetly a tumor, so he sent us immediatly to the chest surgeon, and he would make a biopsy through his chest, meaning an invasive surgery just to know exactly what this mass is, and wether it can be cancerous or not. We were in total panic that he would get surgery so soon and without another medical opinion, so we left to find other opinions.
Now, my husband’s parents offered to help, which seemed great since they were also willing to pay for whatever it tooked. The problem is that they wanted us to see some sort of medium doctor that has “cured” a lot of people in a remote little town. We went there, and the “medium-kinda” said it was only a bag of air, which was probably filled with phlegm of some sort, caused by some strong flu that he didn’t take care of. He sent us a lot of naturist medicine, and with that, my husband’s parents were convinced that it was nothing to worry about.
As his parents saw our discontent with that diagnose, they took us to see a REAL doctor this time, but one that they trust, who happens to be a very experienced doctor, but a bit too pacient. So after he saw the tests, he curiously got to a conclusion similar to the “medium” guy, saying that in the x-rays the “thing” moved when my husband lifted his arms, and that if this was a solid mass it wouldn’t move. He mentioned that it could be phlegm and that it was bettrer if we saw how it evolved. We waited about 3 weeks and took another x-ray. To us it looked just about the same thing, but we went see all the doctors again. I also hace to mention that taking the naturist medication helped A LOT with the symptoms, and my husband is feeling perfectly normal, except that he still gets too agitated when he tries to run or something like that.
The surgeon refused to see the newer x-rays just because he thought that he needed no more evidence than the first CT to see that it was absolutely necessary to do a biopsy. That made us mistrust him, even more knowing that its the procedure that gives him more money. Other thing that made us distrust him, is that he omitted the fact that my hubsband is feeling better. But he IS the most especiallized doctor in the area, so he should know what he’s talking about.
Then, the “medium-doctor” said that my husband was fine, and getting better. We showed a little worry when he saw the fast heart beatings, but he sent like a syrup. We felt that this guy was just treating the symptoms, but not the cause of the issue. He also said that eventually the “thing” would go away.
Now the last doctor, the real one, told us that a surgery that dangerous and invasive can be horrible for someone so young as my hubbie. He said that it definetly was a mass and that he could “touch” it in certain places, but he said that in case it is a tumor, it can be a cancerous one, and a biopsy could only spread it. He recommended to wait more, and to see how it evolves. He made a big mistake that made me mistrust him also and was this:
We gave him an x-ray, and we all though it was the last one. This doctor said:” Oh yes, this thing got much smaller, it is way better than before, it lost density…” And then my husband realized, that we gave him the first ones, the ones that he had already seen, and when we said “hey, sorry these are the right tests, the newer ones” The doctor just said: “oh but anyways it looks smaller in the new ones”. Once again he recommended that we waited, because he said that in the past he saw cases of tumors appearing and dissapearing in no time.
My husband’s parents are only willing to believe that it is a flu, and that it will go away fast, so the option of the biopsy is a big no-no for them.
We don´t know what to think. There’s the certain way, the surgeon way, that can tell waht what it is and whAt to do fast even in the worst cases (like in case of cancer) but is too invasive and expensive, besides it would be done by someone we don’t fully trust OR there is the
I forgot to mention 4 things:
1. In the second x-ray we took, weeks past from the day of the first x-ray, the measures of the mass changed, now being 10x8cm, according to a different x-ray place. This information was also omitted by the surgeon, thinking that it was our subjective thinking, but not taking the time to check the sizes.
2. There is also the other way, that is to wait, and see what happens, having a little faith that it will go away, and that it IS getting smaller and that’s whay his symptoms have gotten better. The problem with this is that if it is something dangerous, waiting could make it worst (although it doesn’t seem to be growing.
3. We believe that if it was a real solid tumor, being that size, my husband would have way much difficulties than what he has, for example he shouldn’t be able to breathe so well, and he would be in much worse pain. I mean, he feels fine… his arm nor his shoulder hurt anymore.
4. In any of you (hopefully MDs or something) want a copy o

I understand that surgery is a scary thing, but in this case I believe that it is the best option, and even if it looks as if it is getting better, it could come back in the future and it could even become cancerous.

Treatment Option For The Prostate Cancer
Treatment Option For The Prostate Cancer
Article by Eric Timmy
The Three most common diseases of the prostate are prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, an enlarged prostate), and prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate), each of which affects the gland differently. Symptoms of prostate problems, with the exception of prostate cancer, which causes none in the early stages when treatment is most likely to result in a cure, include:
1. A frequent urge to urinate2. A weak urinary stream3. Difficulty starting urination4. Nighttime trips to the bathroom5. Interruption of the urine6. Blood in the urine7. Pain or burning sensation when urinating
The most serious prostate disease is prostate cancer. It is one of the most common cancers in men and a leading cause of cancer death, second only to lung cancer. If detected early, when it is still confined to the prostate gland, the chances of successful treatment are high, with few or only short-term effects. Prostate cancer usually grows slowly and remains confined to the prostate gland, where it usually does not cause serious harm. If it spreads outside the gland, treatment becomes more complicated and the success rate falls.
Prostate cancer, if unchecked, can be fatal. Thankfully, advances in diagnosis and treatment, combined with greater public awareness, have significantly improved outcomes of men diagnosed with this insidious disease. Treatment Option for the prostate cancer:
1. Radiation – The cancer cell are killed by high-powered X-rays
2. Radioactive seed implants – Implants placed in the prostate gland deliver a high dose of radiation to kill the cancer cells
3. Hormone therapy – Drugs are administered to stop the body from producing male sex hormones, which can stimulate the growth of cancer cells
4. Radical prostatectomy – Surgical removal of the prostate gland
5. Chemotherapy – Chemicals are used to destroy rapidly growing cells
6. Cryotherapy – Tissue is frozen to destroy cells
7. Watchful Waiting – No medical treatment is provided but the status of the cancer is monitored closely to see if it spreads

Q&A: My dad has lung/brain/lymph node cancer. What is my best option for being stationed closest to home? ?
Question by robert h: My dad has lung/brain/lymph node cancer. What is my best option for being stationed closest to home? ?
I recently got news that my father has been diagnosed with lung cancer. The cancer had spread to his brain creating a tumor. I recently went home on leave that was extended into emergency leave so i could be there while they removed as much of the brain tumor as they could. Next step was to get the cancerous part removed from his lung. During this last weekend I got more news that a PET scan was approved and showed that he had cancer in both lungs as well as in his lymphatic system. Now that the diagnosis has changed from great chance of makin it through this to a much more bleak outlook, i am trying to get a change of duty station from Hawaii to a base such as Camp Roberts in California. My current NCOIC is PCSing there in 5 months and he is the same MOS as I am so I know they accept my MOS there. What would my first step be in trying to get stationed there? As of now I am going to put in a Compassionate Reassignment form ( DA Form 3739) to attempt this change of duty station.
I am a Specialist right now so I don’t believe i can get stationed in my home town as a recruiter. Also, is there a special form i would need to submit to get temporarily attached to the closest reserve or guard unit to my area or do i just need to pass the request verbally up my chain of command?
Also, thank you for the fast responses, I have a bit more information to work with now, the temporary attachment to a reserve unit may be the best thing i can do.

Question by Jewish Girl891: How can you get rid of a drop down option in firefox?
Whenever you start typing in the address bar it comes up with previous websites you have gone to with those letters in the name or url. Is there a way that I can delete some of them? For example I promise that I will never look up ethalenediamenetetraacedic acid or sick building syndrome (both from my envi chem class) ever again. I have other stuff that begin the same way so these (and others) continue to show up. I mean, it won’t be horrible if I cant but it would just be simpler.
PS. I haven’t tried deleting them from my history because it was from so long ago. aka. i can’t find them.

whats the best option?
Question by Jen: whats the best option?
my fiance and i r eloping. this is bc she is european and we only have so many days (90) to get married after he gets his visa. then for r anniversary we were going to have r wedding. this way we have time to plan it and have the things we want. but we were discussing the gifts. it is unimportant whether or not we r given any. (when we brought this up to r family they were a little upset at the breaking of tradition) however since we will already b married we will have most of what we need. w(hat should we do w/ 4 toasters and 6 crockpots?) we have discussed registering so that that won’t happen (hopefully). however we were discussing the possibilities of receiving money. we dont want to ask for overly priced items, would it b wrong to ask that IF they would want to give a monetary gift that it b given to a charity? or to us? is this tacky? Thanks!
(we discussed having a ‘fund’ for cancer treatment to underpriveledge. his dad died of lung cancer and im an oncology nurse)
i just wanted to clarify as far as the eloping. if u no anything about uscis and the immigration process u would no that u file some paperwork, then some months (or yrs) laters ur given a visa. U dont no when until it comes. then u have so many days to get the visa at the consulate and arrive in the states, after that u have 90 days to get married. so to plan a wedding is practically impossible. which is y we decided to have a wedding after we were married. unlike most other couples were not really given the option of the wedding the first time around (at least not a full wedding/reception w/ caterers music church or anything that ud need months in advance to book)
Best answer:
Answer by pspoptart
First off you don’t mention gifts on invites EVER. If someone asks you can tell them you want money, or chairty donations, or whatever.
Since this will NOT be the wedding and will just be a vow renewal you should not register for gifts. Nor should you expect showers, bachelor/bachelorettes, or wear a huge wedding dress with long train. You are making the decision to shotgun the actual wedding and you can’t pretend like you didn’t do it. Either wait and plan or accept missing out on a few traditions.
Since it is a vow renewal I would opt for the charitable donation in your names. The total amount donated is tax deductible and you can use the cash from your refund to buy whatever and won’t look as bad as asking for cash on a one year anniversary vow renewal.
I think you should take the time and wait. Your fiancee can get a new visa or something and it seems that the first wedding traditions are important to you.
