Seattle Doctor Paints Miniature Pumpkin Using da Vinci Robot

Kristen Austin, OB/GYN (obstetrics and gynecology) physician in Issaquah, Wash. paints a Jack-O-Lantern on a miniature pumpkin using the da Vinci robot to demonstrate how this device gives surgeons greater surgical precision and dexterity over existing approaches. Robot-assisted surgery can offer patients significant benefits over traditional approaches, including less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stay, less blood loss, faster recovery time and quicker return to normal daily activities. In November 2011, Swedish opens the first full-service hospital to be built in King County, Wash. In nearly 40 years. The hospital will offer da Vinci robot-assisted surgical services at the campus. This is one of six robots within Swedish’s health care system. Swedish is a leader in robot-assisted surgical procedures. Its program has a longstanding, successful track record of performing more prostate, kidney and gynecologic surgeries than any other medical center in the Pacific Northwest region of the US Swedish uses the da Vinci Surgical System to perform minimally invasive urological, gynecological and thoracic surgeries for diseases such as prostate cancer, kidney cancer, uterine cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer, and to assist in complex gynecologic reconstruction surgeries. Which paints had asbestos in them?

Question by Meg: Which paints had asbestos in them?
Our house was built around the 1950′s. We recently had asbestos siding removed. We weren’t there when they were removing it so is that safer since we weren’t around? We had a company remove it. Also, how do we know if our paint has asbestos in it? They painted it before we moved in which was in 1998 but the paint underneath is an awful green. I’m not sure if my worrying is out of hand or not. Any advice?

paint doesn’t have asbestos in them.. asbestos is the insulator that’s behind your walls. since you’re house was built in the 1950′s you should be more worried about lead paint on the walls (which is only really dangerous if it’s flaking or dusting.. as breathing in lead paint is BAD).

edit: lol what the.. that guy below just copied and pasted my answer? how strange..

I forgot to add, asbestos is basically the same thing.. that’s why they had you leave the house while they removed it. Lead paints and asbestos are really only bad if you ingest them (inhale or eat it). left undisturbed it’s seemingly harmless.
