check out the website www.fastweb.com
Also, ask your academic advisor they could point you in a good direction.
Maybe check out the American Cancer Society web page, I know they give out scholarships. Or google “scholarships for cancer family” and see what pops up.
Good luck!

Question by annetm2: I need advise on how to care for a dying parent…..?
my father is dying of lung cancer and seems like he wants to treat it but he is an alcoholic. He and my mother are divorced and have been since I was very young. He has no home of his own and even still he abandoned his family for booze I still want to do the right thing and take care of him he has less than 1 year to live. I am affraid about how this will affect my three children who are 10 years old to 2 years old. My husband says he can stay as long as he is not drinking. My mother is so angry with me she is threatening to dis own me if I let him stay with us. I feel very torn. As a Christian I want to honnor my parents but I am in the middle of a 28 year fued between them.
I am trying to get medical power of attorney so that I can make arrangements for him. Any suggestions?
Thank you for all the sound advice it will be very difficult to choose a best answer. I already have the paperwork started for him to try to get Social Security, and everyone who I speak to about the situation says a nursing care facility or hospice is the best way to go I do have the support of a cousin which I am very grateful for.
Thank you again for all the great answers and God Bless.

Best care for a dying parent is to remain with the patient all the time and minimizing pain by doing what is desired by the patient.

If your kid gets cancer can a parent legally refuse conventional cancer treatment?
Question by Hans: If your kid gets cancer can a parent legally refuse conventional cancer treatment?
Chemotherapy/Radiation etc is nothing but poison to the body. When you poison the immune system and irradiate tissues, you create physical imbalances which in turn can create cancer. This is the simple reason why so many people who subject themselves to conventional cancer treatments find themselves battling recurring cancer. Conventional cancer treatments are downright brutal and destroy the immune system. I strongly believe in prevention and alternative medicine, and living a pure and natural lifestyle with raw organic foods, so my family and I will probably never ever get cancer. But if me or my kids or wife ever got cancer I swear I would never subject myself or them to that torture just to please the big pharma companies which don’t give a sh*t about people. Just like I would never give them a bottle of rat poison to swallow. The big pharma companies only care about their trillion-dollar a year industry and keeping people brainwashed. My question is would a parent be legally allowed to refuse conventional cancer treatment if their kid got cancer?

I’m sure you can but you’ll have to find another treatment out there that has been proven to cure whatever cancer the child has.

If one parent has a dominant allele that gives a 75% chance of develping a certain type of cancer between?
Question by 8889: If one parent has a dominant allele that gives a 75% chance of develping a certain type of cancer between?
the ages of 35 and 65. What is the likelihood you have inherited the cancer allele? What is the percentage. One parent has the dominant allele and the other parent does not have a dominant allele.
Best answer:
Answer by Peter V
There isnt enough info to do this problem… it is a simple Punnet square, but you didnt tell us if the dominant allele is homozygous or heterozygous. the chances will be different if it is hetero vs. homozygous.
ALso, just to be a knit picker… generally dominant allele would be for “not cancer” and the recessive trait would be ” cancer developing”. Recessive= bad things generally speaking in Genetics.
So, let me know if 1 parent is HETERO or HOMOZYGOUS Dominant for cancer, and then Ill figure it out.

Do you think a parent who smokes ciggarettes is a bad parent?
Question by tatersma1: Do you think a parent who smokes ciggarettes is a bad parent?
After watching the news this evening, Britney Spears is back in the news for smoking in front of her son (of all things). In a photo he was grabbing at a lighter and her ciggarette pack. I understand that’s not good. Those should be placed out of his reach obviously. But do you think this is abuse? I mean come on, my mother smoked and it didnt set a bad example for us five kids. Only 1 out of the 5 of us now smokes as an adult (not me). And she only started after she turned 21. So how bad of an example could it have been. Whats next for the courts and govt to attack on parents. What point is too far for them to go in deciding what is right or wrong in my home, your home, or anyones home for that matter. Any opinions are appreciated. (Also, I do not approve of smoking as I watched my mom die of lung cancer, which is why i don’t smoke, but i do approve of a persons right to choose. I also think that God did not put me here to judge the ppl that do).

Smoking cigarettes does not automatically make you a bad parent. However, letting your children get ahold of your smoking paraphernalia is not great. Its not “abuse” though. Far from it. The things should obviously been out of their reach. That being said, my kids occasionally get ahold of things that they shouldn’t have. Accidents happen. If cameras followed you around 24/7 I’m sure there would be a few photos taken that made you look awful and neglectful. I don’t exactly look to Britney for parenting advice, so I couldn’t care less what she does. Same goes for people that I don’t even know.

chemotherapy/radiation is the death wish. Big pharma is constantly throwing money out trying to make natural medicine of any kind illegal everywhere and denying the fact that it actually works! But of course everyone is too brainwashed to see that.

I am so glad to read your views on this issue. I agree with you totally.
I don’t know about the laws on this in your country. I would hope that you can legally refuse, but laws are being changed all the time and lately, not in parents’ favor, it seems.

Q&A: Support groups for daughters losing a parent?
Question by kathryn: Support groups for daughters losing a parent?
About a month ago we found out my dad has terminal brain/lung/liver cancer. I’m 22 and an only child and I am having a very hard time with accepting this situation. I am looking for support groups either in person or online of other people that are around my age and losing a parent. I live near Naperville Illinois which isn’t too far from Chicago. I’m a fifth grade teacher and I’m just trying to keep it all together. It is hard because none of my friends have ever lost a parent and I have no one to relate with. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear it!

Answer by ubaid sajid
Im really sorry for what happened to your dad, because i do feel your pain.
All i can say is be there for your dad, and support him in the best way you can.
When someone looses a person close to them they feel distressful, upset and suicidal. But you have to bare in mind that your dad can never be taken away from you because his memories will always lie in your heart. You just have to close your eyes and think of him, and all worries will fade away slowly.
You have to carry on with your life, and keep reminding yourself that its what your dad would have wanted
I wish you the best of luck in coping with this situation, and i hope my advice helped a little
All the best.

Asbestos dangers of school closures highlighted by parent
The largest asbestos disposal site in Europe is situated in the Glasgow North East constituency at the Red Road Flats. Young children who have had their primary schools closed as part of Glasgow City Council’s cuts are having to make their way along this hazardous route in Broomfield Rd to their new school. On the other side of the road there is another site riddled with chemicals. So they have 3 choices: walking on the side with asbestos, walking on the side with chemicals or walking in the middle of the road and risking being knocked down by a vehicle. Not much choice, is there? Glasgow North East has long suffered deprivation, unemployment, poverty and ill-health. The life expectancy in the area is one of the lowest in Britain. Cutting public services is only adding to the unemployment and poverty and ultimately poor health. The last thing kids need is to be walking by chemicals and asbestos sites. Apart from the obvious disruption to education by closing local schools and sending young kids to further away schools with larger class sizes, many parents from different areas in Glasgow have complained about the road safety issue for their kids en route to their new schools But in the north-east it’s even worse because of the risk of contamination. SSP’s Richie Venton and others have campaigned long and hard with the parents against the closures. Demonstrations, rooftop protests and occupations of buildings, lobbies of the Scottish parliament, legal challenges have been …

Q&A: Have you lost a parent, child, spouse due to chemical exposure? By government or big business?
Question by Southern Comfort: Have you lost a parent, child, spouse due to chemical exposure? By government or big business?
Asbestosis, Agent Orange, jobs in mines, oil industry etc.
Most of us forget the dangers still out there that are contaminating people.
When my son prepared to accept a job in Oregon in the oil industry he had to undergo testing for contamination. He passed after 12-15 yrs. exposure.
Without seeking the information the majority of us do not realize how
many have died.
Did you or the family receive any compensation?
Best answer:
Answer by slk29406
My cousin did 3 tours of duty in Nam, he died of brain cancer, his daughter was born with a heart defect. To the best of my knowledge, they received no compensation or apology.
I worked for a company that made prefab modular housing for military installations overseas, I actually worked there twice, every single officer and some employees died from cancer causing agent the in the adhesive, EVERY SINGLE ONE!
