My lungs havent been feeling normal over the past 2 months or so. sometimes i get a wierd feeling in my lung.
Question by haze125: My lungs havent been feeling normal over the past 2 months or so. sometimes i get a wierd feeling in my lung.
i sometimes get a wierd feeling in what seems to be my right lung. Im not exactly sure if its my lung though because it only happens when i lean foward in a certain position. If anything its a very slight dull pain but really it kind of feels like theres a knot that tightens up when i lean over in that position. i do get some phlem sometimes but very rarely and i very rarely cough. i smoke pot about 4 times a week, but i know family memebers who have been smoking pot for over 20 years and have no lung problems what so ever and friends who smoke three times the amount that i do. Any ideas as to what this might be? i was thinking maybe a spot on my lung. please don’t post any uneducated marijuana stereotypes.thanks
is it really possible for me to have lung cancer? i mean i’ve been smoking for only about 2 years and im 17 and i don’t even consider myself to be a heavy smoker

How can he apply for a lung transplant? He smokes and I know he will have to quit, but for how long before the transplant would take place does he have to quit. I want him to live. We live in Kingman, Arizona. How do we apply for the transplant. Thank you anybody that can help us out.

Answer by House825
His lung specialist would have to refer him to a transplant center for an evaluation, which is the first step towards seeing if he would be a good candidate.
I do not know the rules regarding smoking and transplants; I do know that anyone who is actively smoking cannot receive a lung transplant. This is something that could be answered by the lung specialist. Or you may be able to find a Facebook group for lung transplant recipients and people waiting for a lung transplant. (I’m on a page for kidney/pancreas reciipents, which is what I received). You might also want to look up the following websites:

I have had frequent urination for the past year and have been to many doctors but dont know whats wrong?
Question by Ben P: I have had frequent urination for the past year and have been to many doctors but dont know whats wrong?
Actually i did have a cystoscopy in january that found out that my trigone of the bladder was inflamed, other than that though, there was nothing wrong. Ive been on numerous medications such as detrol and vesicare, but am not taking any as of now. Basically i still go about every hour, though the medicine has helped me hold it somewhat, this week has been tough though because i feel i have to go every 15 minutes. Im also wondering whether i may have something from asbestos expsosre because it started about a year ago after remodeling with a house and taking down asbestos insulation
By the way im only 19 so i know this is not normal, i also have trouble getting erection (although ive never had sex, boners dont come easy anymore) idk whats up i just know i dont feel right
Ive had a few blood tests and they havent shown that ive had diabetes and i havent really lost weight (ik that losing weoght is a symptom of diabetes), and i did tell the urologist i was exposed to asbestos, but he just said maybe it caused an allergy in the trigone region but i will get a blood test again for diabetes.
also i have talked with many doctors including my family one and a urologist nothin has been found

Is somebody who had another cancer in the past more prone to other new cancer in the future?
Question by Andrew S: Is somebody who had another cancer in the past more prone to other new cancer in the future?
Suppose somebody is diagnosed with testicular cancer when they are like 18 or 19. They undergo chemotherapy and are cured. Are they more prone to developing another type of cancer in the future? If they smoke are they more prone to lung cancer than somebody who never had anything? Or is it just random? thank you
P.S. please dont tell me anti-smoking answers. I don’t smoke I’m just wondering because a few of my friends and I have discussed this before and were not really sure. I did however have testicular cancer.

Q&A: What are the chances of me, and others born in the 90s, living past 100?
Question by Ed the Sophomore: What are the chances of me, and others born in the 90s, living past 100?
I was just wondering after reading this yahoo article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091001/hl_nm/us_ageing_populations ). Many in my family have lived to their 90s. My great-grandmothers are both still alive at 93..or 94. My great-grandad died at 88 & my great-aunt at 96 like 5 years ago, other great-grandad died around in his late ’60s or early ’70s two decades ago from lung cancer. My grandma is still going at 71, and grandpa died at 70 from lung cancer like his dad. So with history of most people in my family living long lives..is it possible I can too? I’m 15, don’t eat much junk food, exercise like 5 days a week (3 weightlifting & 2 cardio), and my percentage of body fat is below 10%. Also I don’t plan on drinking or smoking when I get older. I know it’s too early to tell, and I don’t want to jinx myself, but like I said above..just wondering.

Q&A: In the Age of Aquarius, will radiation and chemotherapy be compared to lobotomy in the past?
Question by Antisocial Man: In the Age of Aquarius, will radiation and chemotherapy be compared to lobotomy in the past?
Let’s face it, doctors have advanced, as have medical researchers. They no longer charge people for lobotomies, and I think that’s great. Will radiation and chemotherapy be compared to lobotomies when we are into the Age of Aquarius? I hate to think that people will still be poisoned to kill cancer. And then sent a bill whether the poisoning works or not.

Chemotherapy IS poison. Your appearance and body are NEVER the same after wards. It literally changes your entire physical existence. People were making fun of me last year about my appearance and such…. I am like I would like to see how you would look after having loads of toxins pumped into your body everyday…. How will you look? I have been detoxing and eating a raw food diet lately and have been impressed with the results. My thyroid, digestion, ect. is finally back to normal,……. But I will never be the same. I will defiantly never be able to work out as hard as I used to, stuff like that. =-(

Will my past social smoking on rare occasions cause lung cancer?
Question by emma.: Will my past social smoking on rare occasions cause lung cancer?
I have smoked cigarettes with friends almost every time i would go out and drink which is NOT often. at most two weekends out of a month. And I just went about 5 months without doing it. It’s been about a year since i first did it and i would only have one or two most which isn’t a lot but last night i smoked A LOT from what i remember and i feel horrible about it:( i’m never doing it EVER again. i’m disappointed and ashamed.
my grandfather died from lung cancer from smoking and it scares me to death that that’s going to happen to me. is it most likely going to? i’m so upset and scared for some reason, i’d love some reassurance from anyone, thank you!
Best answer:
Answer by akaMaryn
No. The cancer statistics for the occasional social smoker are virtually identical to those of the non-smoker. The risk is that the casual or social smoker who enjoys a cigarette under certain circumstances may create or put herself into those circumstances more often, or may start adding cigarettes to similar circumstances, until she’s a full-blown smoker.
So long as you don’t increase your present rate, to more than a few smokes a few times a month, you should be fine. Your lungs’ cilia can clean out the crud in a day or two.

Why is cancer more common now than in the past?
Question by : Why is cancer more common now than in the past?
I’m only 17, so I don’t know the whole story… but from talking to people and reading what I could on the internet, why does cancer seem more common now than in the past? On TV, in magazines, the newspaper it’s everywhere! Everywhere you go you can hear about someone being diagnosed with cancer, fighting cancer, passing away from cancer. But in the past, no one seemed to notice it. Was it because it wasn’t recognized as cancer before? Or simply, because it has gotten worse?
From reports on the internet and health tips on the radio, it seems everything can cause it! Pollution, smoking, eating lots of grilled food (supposedly) , asbestos from old buildings, radiation (down to radiation from CELL PHONES), chemicals in hair dye, sunlight. It seems like EVERYTHING can give you cancer! It’s seriously ridiculous.
Some people say that the world is going to be wiped out by a sickness, I say it’s going to be cancer.

Q&A: I’ve had one job in my past, so its the only one I’m able to use as a reference…?
Question by і ♥ нім: I’ve had one job in my past, so its the only one I’m able to use as a reference…?
I worked at Walgreen’s for 6 months in 2007-08. In May of 2008 my Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer & the prognosis wasn’t very good. Having been there for 6 months, I asked them if it was possible that I take a week off of work to go spend time with my Dad (he lives in another state). They told me no. I was practically in tears in my manager’s office explaining to him that I really needed this time off. (By the way, I was speaking to a NEW assistant manager whom I had problems with before). He said if I really needed the time off, that I could leave now. I honestly & totally thought that he meant I could have the time off & return in a week. When I went to return after my week was over, the general manager pulled out an incident form & termination paperwork that had my name on it. Apparently the assistant manager meant that if I left, I wouldn’t have a job anymore.
So anyway, my point is.. that is the only job I’ve had, so its the only manager I can put down as a reference. Obviously if a potential employer calls, they’ll tell them that I quit on bad terms. More & more employers are actually calling references. I’ve been turned down from jobs 4 times because of the bad reference my ex manager gives me. What can I do to stop this cycle?
**My Dad has since passed away- just so you can know how crucial my spending time with him was.
Poor me? Are you kidding? My father was on his DEATH BED. It was less poor me then it was poor him. The 1 week visit could have potentially been the last time I ever saw my father, the man that brought me into this world, again. When I went to see my manager about it, I had found out maybe 2 hours before. Of course I was upset. But to say that I felt like it should have been ‘poor me’ is completely incorrect.
And as far as the manager goes, soon after this incident he was terminated for ‘bullying’ employees. So it wasn’t anything personal between just him & I.
Best answer:
Answer by apt311
Nothing says you have to put this manager down as a referencet. All you need to do is list that you had that job, and had to resign “due to family medical emergency” or something along those lines. Make sure that you tell why if the question comes up, but don’t delve into the whole story right off the bat (as above), while I am not trying to mean – it sounds like “poor me” and “manager I’ve had problems with before” sounds like he had a reason to not work with you.
You should be honest when looking for a new job, but no reason to use reference that you know will hurt you.

Mesothelioma Patients Can Survive Past Five Years
Mesothelioma Patients Can Survive Past Five Years
Article by Agatha Simona
Mesothelioma, the rare but deadly cancer of the mesothelium caused by asbestos exposure, is often fatal within a year of diagnosis. But thanks to better diagnostic tools, including the use of some newly-identified biomarkers to identify those at highest risk, some patients do survive this cancer for five years or more.If pleural effusion is suspected, then confirmation needs to be established with a chest x-ray. Ultrasound is also helpful in locating small amounts or collections of isolated pockets of fluid. Chest CT is also used and is very helpful in distinguishing between parenchymal and pleural disease. Chest CT will help to show pleural thickening, pleural based mass, loculecollections of fluid, or pleural calcification.
Statistics from the National Cancer Institute indicate that 7.3 percent of people diagnosed with mesothelioma between 1999 and 2006 were likely to be alive five years later. People who are younger than 65 at the time of diagnosis have the greatest chance of making it at least five years – 14.8 percent. The latest National Cancer Institute prevalence figures say 2,774 people were diagnosed with mesothelioma between 2000 and 2006. At that time, 4,194 people were living with the disease.
Due to the long latency between asbestos exposure and the development of mesothelioma, it can take as long as 40 or 50 years for symptoms to develop. When they do develop, they may mimic symptoms of other conditions, delaying diagnosis further. By the time some patients are diagnosed, it may be too late for even aggressive intervention to positively impact survival rates.
New diagnostic markers are needed to both detect mesothelioma and identify those mesothelioma patients that have the best chance of getting value from existing therapies. A new study conducted at New York University’s Langone Medical Center suggests a genetic marker inside tumor cells may help identify patients who are most likely to respond well to treatment of the pleural (lung-based) form of mesothelioma.
Researchers conducted the study on 142 patients who had had surgery for their mesothelioma. In those with highest levels of the marker, known as miR-29c, the survival period was as much as four times higher than for those with the lower levels. With treatment, those with higher MiR-29c had a median survival rate of 32 months. Study Director Dr. Harvey Pass says the results may prompt physicians to be more aggressive with treatment in those with the worst prognosis.

Asbestos Use in the United States – Past and Present
Asbestos Use in the United States – Past and Present
Article by Wendy Moyer
Asbestos has been used in different parts of the world for more than 4,000 years. Evidence of its initial use was found in utensils and pottery that were recently excavated in Finland.
However, until the beginning of the 20th century it was barely used at all. At that point in time it was used primarily as thermal insulation in many of the steam engines that were being built. Since then it’s been incorporated into literally thousands of different products.
In the United States the consumption of asbestos peaked during the 1970s. Four decades ago approximately 800,000 tons of the material was used yearly.
As evidence of asbestos-related diseases increased and as asbestos-related lawsuits proliferated, the consumption of these mineral fibers in the US dropped dramatically. Now less than 240,000 tons per year are used.
This naturally-occurring mineral initially gained widespread use because it did not cost much, it was plentiful and it was readily available. It can be found in the United States, Canada, Russia, and South Africa.
Industrialists loved to use asbestos primarily because it is so fire resistant. In addition it is very strong and is a poor conductor of heat and electricity. It is also resistant to chemicals. Consequently, it was heavily used in the thermal insulation, acoustical, and electrical industries in products that needed to be resistant to fire and chemicals.
Thousands of products incorporate asbestos in their manufacture. It can be found in automotive clutch linings and brakes, ceiling and floor tiles, cement/asbestos sheets and pipes, various paper products, as well as some textile products such as gloves and curtains. It was also used to insulate pipes and boilers.
Extremely popular in the construction industry, it was often sprayed onto beams, into crawl spaces, and between walls.
Between 1950 and 1970 more than one half of all of the large multistory buildings that were constructed used some form of spray-on asbestos. Back then the material was sprayed onto steel columns and beams with the intent of preventing them from collapsing or warping should there be a fire.
Asbestos accounted for anywhere from 5 percent to 95 percent of the fireproofing material that was sprayed on. If you were to touch this material (please don’t) you would find it to be fluffy and soft. However, these very properties make it friable and extremely dangerous.
If material like this is compressed it can break apart. Then microscopic asbestos fibers would be released into the air. Anyone who inhales these particles may ultimately become a victim of a life-threatening asbestos-related disease such as mesothelioma.
This material, which often varies in color from pure white to a dark gray, might also have been painted over. In any case, the spray painting of asbestos was officially banned back in 1978.
If you or someone you love has mesothelioma, then you may be entitled to a substantial settlement.

I think with breast cancer more of the recent improvements have come in the screening techniques. Many more women are being diagnosed at early stages, then say 15-20 years ago. This is due to self-awareness, as well regular check-ups. At early stages, breast cancer is almost always curable.

Question by Matt B: i am 16 and have been having weird emotions throughout the past 2-3 years. i feel very different from others.?
when is this gonna end? okay i’m 16 and have so far had a very weird, strange life, it seems to me that is. i am going to psychologists now and my mom used to take me out of school to go to doctors in the 6th/7th/8th grade. I feel like life is extremely complicated for me, but i don’t even have friends, a vehicle, an apartment, my mom withdrew me from public school in 8th grade because i never could fit in with anybody or anything and i couldn’t concentrate on my work in class, and since then, all i have been doing is staying upstairs in my room doing school work, on the internet or playing games, watching t.v., building things, or playing with my 12/13 year old brothers which i dont even do anymore because i just have been really sad recently and lonely. i’m like really sick of everything that’s going on in what’s left of my family. my parents are separated, not divorced yet, i am forced to stay here with my abusive father with my two brothers. i feel lonely all the time and sad as hell when i stay here with my dad and brothers. See, my mom currently lives at my aunts house and i can only come over there like every other week or so, its stupid. when i call my mom she seems glad to talk to me at first, but then she curses a little and tells me she will call me back but she never does. I dont know if she’s mad at me for what i’ve been putting her through for a long time or if she’s just ticked off at her life which i know she has to be. She had a job but she quit it because it was too much of a low paying job and now she has no job, no car, and barely anything to do except go out with this friend she has and drink alcohol and god knows what else. She lies to me on the phone a lot and everytime she’s using alcohol or drugs she acts really weird and aggresive even on the phone to me. I cry everynight because my sister is in college, my mom is messed up from alcohol/drug addiction, my dad is abusive verbally and physically(but not recently because he knows we will call the cops), and he doesn’t understand me one bit and i have nothing in common with him and i cant talk to him about anything because i feel very unsettling talking to him. My family has just shattered to pieces in reality and i dont know what to do. I’m sorry to ramble on about my problem but i’m sorta spilling my guts right now. Also, i did take an autism test twice and my scores were 34 and the second time 36. both my mom and people she knows tell me i am autistic but i had no idea what that was. the psychologists also said i might have apsergers syndrome which i didn’t know what the heck that was either. every since like 4 years old i rememember having these weird deep emotions at random moments when i would see things or watch certain movies. its weird, i feel like i’ve been dreaming this whole time or something. i remember these past few summers i would go outside on a summer evening and look up at the sky and get these feelings of random, bizarre memories that have taken place previously before and those feelings felt beyond great, almost too intense for me. i know i’m sounding weird, but its hard to explain. i have a very bizarre memory, it’s like i can remember every single thing that’s taken place in my life, even from 3 or 4 years old. i feel i should wite a book about this life of mine and the awesome feelings that i have gotten over the years. so yeah there’s a lot more i’d like to spill out but i’d be on here for months typing out my life story.

Knowledge Of The Past Says: Food is The Key To Health And Good Medicine
Knowledge Of The Past Says: Food is The Key To Health And Good Medicine
Article by Brenda Skidmore
Have you ever heard of an ancient text known as “The Doctrine of Signatures”? It is mostly a spiritually based philosophy that simply implies that God provided us with visual clues ( or signatures) of all elements that were placed on Earth for the benefit of mankind. Within the pages of this ancient testimonial is a reasonable system of identification tools that man could use to recognize the usefulness of every herb, plant food, animal, mineral, and quite possibly other related synchronous phenomenons by their shapes, forms, actions, how and where they grow, and reside.
For over 500 years, and well into the 19th century, this system was considered standard quo. It was a sound source of health wisdom, for the time, that crossed many cultural boundaries through the generations to be practiced by the Europeans, Native Americans, and by the peoples in the countries of the Far Eastern Orient. Although the Doctrine of Signatures does not provide us with the answers to everything, it should still be considered an excellent source of wisdom to reflect back on, as many different mixed societies considered it a highly revered system of knowledge. They used it often, and many times it worked quite well.
As the science fiction writer Arthur C. Clark once observed, any sufficiently advanced technology is akin to magic, and attitudes towards new technology often border on superstition.
With this thought in mind, how do you feel about modern medical science’s hasty dismissal of this sage wisdom of the past? Might not there be just a tad of prejudgment, and quite possibly some self-serving arrogance playing a role in the dominance for financial medical supremacy? No doubt there currently is a bloody battle being fought now, and has been fought for well over a century, in your right to truthful health knowledge, and thus your health freedom.
The passing of the last 25 years, or so, has made many of us ripe for recognizing health care changes that need to be made. After all, how many of you are questioning the, supposedly, new developments of previously unheard of diseases, super bacterial infections that are resistant to modern day antibiotics, and the nowhere money trail failures to healing cancer?
I borrowed this example of what the Doctrine of Signature’s advice proclaims about the eating of whole foods, and the benefits they have in relation to specific body parts from Don Tolman’s web page. Read on.
You Are What You Eat, So Eat Well My Friend…
A stupendous insight of civilizations past has now been confirmed by today’s investigative, nutritional sciences. They have shown that what was once called “The Doctrine of Signatures” was astoundingly correct. It now contends that every whole food has a pattern that resembles a body organ or physiological function and that this pattern acts as a signal or sign as to the benefit the food provides the eater. Here is just a short list of of examples of whole food nutrition signatures.
A sliced carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye, and yes, science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and help the functioning of the eyes.
A tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.
Grapes hang in clusters that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.
A walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.
Kidney beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function, and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.
Celery, bok choy, rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are, amazingly, also 23% sodium as well. If you don’t have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.
Eggplant, avocadoes, and pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female-they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats just one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And, how profound is this? It takes 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).
Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the motility of male sperm and increase the numbers of sperm as well to overcome male sterility.
Sweet potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.
Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries.
Grapefruit, oranges, and other citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.
Onions look like body cells. Today’s research shows that onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears. which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes.
Bananas, cucumber, zuchini squash, and more target the size and strength of the male sexual organ. It’s true!
Peanuts have a profound effect on the testicles and male sexual libido. Peanuts were once often banned as a food for males by the Church during the middle ages.
And again, how profound is this, most people don’t realize that, arginine, a phytonutrient found in peanuts is the main active component of the drug ‘Viagra’!
My, my will the wonders of nature never cease?
Where is the signature importance of water in relation to all living things? Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? It seems to be the glue that holds all of this other stuff together. It also is the perfect waste carrying transport fluid to detox the body with. Dr. Masaru Emoto believes that water is a neutral substance by nature and has the ability to structure itself around any positive or negative forces in its environment. Do you think we ought not take better care of our precious natural water resources now, in being much more mindful about what undesirable forces we let influence its naturally, benign structure?
